MSI DVD quit on me...

Ok, my computer locked up in a game and I was forced to shut it off (ctrl alt del was no use), but when I turned it back on it wouldn't detect the DVD drive. I have to push escape so it bypasses the detection of it (cause it just sits at post for like a minute if I dont). So now when  the computer is on the drive just sits there with the light continuously on on the front of it and I've tried everything I could think of (which is basically unplugging the IDE and power cable and hooking it back up).... So, is it fried?

Ok, so I ALMOST purcahse a new DVD reader when I came across this: When I turned on the computer my CD-RW wasnt detected! Im thinkin "oh great now I cant even read a CD".... so i restart and its fine and I havent had a prob with it since... But because this happened, this leads me to believe that either the IDE hook up itself is SOMEHOW bad (im not THAT computer savvy but it could even be bios related) or the round cable is perhaps "pinched" in a spot or something... I have no idea. I might just buy a cheapy DVD reader anyway just to see if it works...

  • Mega 180: MSI DVD Writer DR-16B and other issues...

I just get hand on a MSI DVD Writer DR-16B and installed it on my Mega PC unfortunatelly whenever i open the tray using the mega pc front panel button it will hang my mega pc badly and i have to reboot.
However i found a trick: It will not hang if i open the DVD using the Drive button, it is not convenient but at last works...
Other issue i have with my Mega PC:
    * If i connect my USB bluetooth dongle the mega PC will not boot
    * Sometimes after booting i loose the sound (nvmixer wont load complaining there is no nforce sound chipset on my mega pc !!) and i have to unplug the power for a while to get it back
    * The remote control is crappy unless you can stay 2 meter and aim exactly at the mega pc...anybody found a replacement ??
    * The last one was one of my RAM was corrupted and make my PC crash every days or so and corrupt some of my files on the HD :( :( it took me 3 months to find the problem....
Do you know if MSI have any plan to fix these issues some days ??? i am getting tired and thinking of replace my Mega PC with some shuttles ....

Thanks for the advice and here are my reply:
For DVD i want a 16x DVD writer i already tried several devices out there and this one will be my latest try..i can accomodate to eject with the drive button for now...I was hopping that using a MSI model would make it compatible but this one is not... :(
For missing sound devices i use the latest nforce drivers and i already found the root cause on this forum, it seems that if you start the PC when the HIFI mode is already open it will lock the sound device in HIFI and the PC mode cannot find it. The solution is to switch off HIFI mode BEFORE going PC mode...well weird
For USB bluetooth well it would have been nice to leave it all the time because i use it to synch my sony erricson P900 anyway i heard that it is a bios firmware problem so i am back to sync with the phone craddle (USB craddle but this one will not freeze the boot) The USB bluetooth is a PCI GW-BH02U.

  • MSI DVD 5.1 player - TV-OUT

Hi, I have a problem :D , Can anyone tell me how to play a DVD in MSI DVD PLAYER on a tv out card to the T.V? When I play a DVD on the MSI player it works fine but when I switch to twin view (ie any sort of using a T.V for a monitor) the MSI player display no picture. I read the documentation that came with the MSI player and it said: the MSI player will not display a picture when using a TV out card if there is no copywrite protection hardware. Does any one know how to get around this problem? I only want to watch DVD's on my T.V with the MSI DVD player.

It´s not an msi problem i have a dvd from samsung and he gave me the same problem. I thinks it´s a windows problem. Microsoft program lol

  • MSI DVD 8216M Not Reading Disks

I purchased an MSI DVD (8216M) from NewEgg a week ago.  So far I have run into a few DVDs that this drive will not play.
One in particular is a brand new DVD I bought yesterday.  At first it would not play the disk it at all.  I updated the firmware, and it will now read the DVD.  I can access the menu, and play the special features, but if I go to scene selection and select a scene, or play the movie, it fails to read the disk.

When did this start happening? Did you load any apps or software just before this began?
    You might reset PRAM

  • GEFORCE MX440 installing MSI DVD

This is driving me nuts. To install the DVD software that came with the card i need to input a serial number. I have tried various ways of typing the numbers that appear on the card and the numbers that appear on the box -- and it always says it is the incorrect numbers.
    I've tried : (G4mx440-T) 0202216132
    and various versions of that.
Where do i find the serial number and what do I input to make the software install?
    Thanks
    Zkid

    Hey, bud...
MSI DVD is the only DVD player which plays DVD with TV-out function, but I lost this CD with the software. Tried to talk with MSI support guys, but the said I should come here and try to find out a solution (any other DVD player worked).
Can we find out a way of you to transfer this software to me?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Power DVD 3.0 or MSI DVD in XP?

Power DVD 3.0 or MSI DVD in XP?
Wich is the best dvd program for win xp?

MSI dvd works fine with XP, but may be you may consider use nvDVD (the nVIDIA player). Take a look at this thread:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/service/forum/index.php?threadid=1147&boardid=9&styleid=1.
    My opinion:
     -nvDVD: gold medal
-PowerDVD4 XP+patches+any dvd tweaker, silver medal
-MSI DVD player (WinDVD), bronze medal, or maybe no medal....

Double checked that also.  If it is on the envelope, it is printed with invisible ink.

Dude, it's the same thing, MSI just put their name on the skin!
    Myself, I prefer Power DVD.
    Try the demos first...
If he has a newer nVidia card his best option would probably be nVidia DVD decoder because the newer nVidia cards have PureVideo improvements for video playback AFAIK.
One requirement for Purevideo is using the nVidia DVD decoder.
    http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_purevideo_requirements.html
So I believe if he uses another decoder he doesn't get all of the benefits from Purevideo. If he has an older nVidia card then it doesn't matter which decoder he uses.
I purchased the nvidia decoder, and have a 6600GT that is supposed to have Purevideo. I'm not exactly sure if it is implemented properly yet like it is supposed to be from some research I have done.
It seems to be, because of all the extra options I have for video playback in the nVidia DVD decoder panel. DVD movies also look pretty good, not sure if it is because of Purevideo though.

  • MSI DVD Software Problem

I just purchased a new computer which came with a G4MX440 video card. One of the reasons we picked with card was the DVD player, MSI DVD, and other software that came with it.
The card seems to works very well, but the MSI DVD program, fails right after starting to read the DVD, it appears that the first few frames of the DVD come up and then it crashes.
The computer is running Windows XP Home edition, freshly installed and the latest drivers for the video card for Windows Update.
I have searched far and wide for a new version of the MSI DVD software and cannot find it anywhere.
Can anyone from MSI, or otherwise knowing person, let me know were I can get a version of MSI DVD that works with Windows XP?
By the way, just to try out the hardware and setup, I downloaded trial versions of other DVD players and they work fine. But why buy another player is one came with the video card?
I am assumming the MSI DVD comes with the DVD Decoder software included, right?
Thanks for anyone who can help me out. :O
    ...Peter

Have you tried Live Update?  I experienced the same problem but after trying various methods of my own, I took it to the place we got it from and they fixed it for free.

  • MSI DVD and new detonator drivers

I cannot seem to get MSI DVD 3.1 to play DVDs with new  det. drivers. The dvd player works fine with older driver versions but seems to have a problem with copywrite protection with new drivers.
Is this something nvidia is writing into these drivers in order to sell it's own NVDVD software or is there an update for MSI DVD 3.1. I have tried both nvidias version and MSI version of the new det. drivers with no luck. Older driver versions work fine. I cannot seem to find anything about this subject anywhere. Is there any solution to this?

  • For those people that have a issue with MSI DVD that won't work right

I  have an MSI K9 SLI Platium 7250 w/ an AMD Athlon X2 4600+ 2.4 GHz. I have MSIDVD that originaly came with my old Motherboard MS-680E AMD Atlon XP 1700+ 1.4GHz. When I upgraded MSIDVD wouldn't work right and every time I Would insert a a DVD MSIDVD would give a wierd error. But here a hint how to bypass. As long as you have MSIDVD installed you should be able to play DVD's through Windows Media Player without any problems, thats what I was able to do. Or if you still want to use MSIDVD, you need to download a program from AMD, here are the detales, I also done this too
The Program is called "AMD Dual-Core Optimizer"
The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core's
Time Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing effects that these applications may experience on dual-core processor systems, by periodically adjusting the core time-stamp-counters, so that they are synchronized.
    Heres the link http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html

OK, well - I installed Tiger back on a separate disk and will reboot into that when I want to watch a movie. Cheers, all.
