MSI FROZR III Black screen sound buzzing

HI all,
Tonight whilst I was playing Red faction Armageddon the screen went black and the sound was buzzing the only way that I could do anything was to reboot my computer by pressing the reset button. Any ideas what could cause this?
The card is only 4 days old?

System specs are as follows;
I7 2600k at stock
MSI frozr III Stock
Cosair vengeance 1866 DDR 3
Asus maximus iv extreme z
1x cosair ssd
Coolermaster GX 750 power supply
I don't know what I'm looking for with regard to the power supply but I have the manufacturers page here with the model;
http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6643
On windows before this happened when I opened chrome there was some red graphical glitches on the window, it was not flashing just not displaying properly but only on the chrome window so I rebooted and then switched on red faction and the after about 15 minutes had the black screen and buzzing sound and windows event viewer said it was a kernel power error.

  • MSI HD6950 Frozr III 2gb screen lock up

Hi I'm asking for help before I have to return my MSI HD6950 Frozr III 2 GB graphics card.
I Have a self built system that comprises of the following:  ASUS M4A88 T-M motherboard
AMD Phenom 955 Black Edition Quad Core Processor (not overclocked)
8 Gigs of Corsair 1600 RAM - Windows 7 64 Bit all windows updates
                                                                                         750 watt Antec PSU
1 TB Samsung F1 Hard Drive
(Had 1 GB Nvidia GTS450 - the system has run beautifully since I built it in August, no crashes, lock ups etc)
Bought the beautiful HD6950 and installed it ok, installed the latest Catalyst 11.10 drivers, it ran ok for a short period of time, but then in games it started to lock up, this resulted in a beige coloured screen with very thin vertival dark lines, could not CNTL/ALT/DEL out of it, had to reset. Windows then will not run up normally, so I have to try safe mode. Safe mode comes up, but attempting to system restore ends in failure and after applying all the saved data it sits there with a blank screen. This then results in reset and safe mode yet again.
I have been on AMD's website but this just results in dozens of possibilities dating back 3 or 4 years. One of the moderators suggested your site as it is MSI equipment and thought it more useful in attempting to find a fix for this issue.
I have while in safe mode deinstalled the graphics card and relaunched the system, Windows will then come back up again using windows generic drivers, I then re-install the latest Drivers from AMD's site, and when prompted to I restart the system, this then sends me back into the cycle of failing to load up Windows yet again. And has gone on like this for several days now, I have done loads of suggested things to attempt a fix, all to no avail, Virus checked, even bought a new PSU in case my old 550 watt unit was lacking power, I have reseated all RAM and checked my RAM in windows, reconnected all power cables, reseated my graphics card, all to no avail.
I was now starting to doubt my system, so in desperation, I deinstalled the HD6950 and put back in my GTS450, what a difference, the system is stable and a joy, its how I was expecting the system to behave with the HD6950 in, obviously I would ideally like the extra graphics clout of the HD6950 in but I'll settle for stable and rock solid instead. One clue I may have is I noticed that it tended to lock up when the GPU's fan increased in speed, from its low and quiet mode of operation. Please help as I want to give you 6950 the best possible chance, but I cant go on with it like this.....
                                                               Yours Sincerely

sent the card back to reseller to check it and replace it if needs

  • MSI Notebook GX640, black screen with games

I own for two years MSI Notebook G series GX640 (Intel Core i5-460M, Ati Mobility RadeonHD 5850, 4GB RAM, 500 GB HDD). Recently I had to send it to the manufacturer because of a audiocard malfunction. It was the last call to do it on the warranty. It ended around a week ago (2 years warranty). The service guy filled an information for me (standard procedure). It stated: repair the audioboard and new ventilation installed. It seems they run some tests and updated the BIOS. After that I had some time (around 2 weeks) of cool work on the machine. Until recently... Here is a description of the problem.
During more demanding programs (games mostly) the PC runes smoothly for some minutes (10, 15, 20 or so) and without warning goes black screen. Sometimes you can still hear the sound from the game other times no. Also if I unplug the power cable and plug it back it sometimes goes to a very uneasy state with stripes on the monitor.
I tried to fix this by updating the CCC from ATI, also updated the video card drivers, today flashed the BIOS using the MSIHQ USB Bootable Tool and BIOS Helper. I used the 1656_031 archive from MSI. Searched the forum and the web for info and help... but no luck. So I post here with hope for help.
I suspect this is not an issue of hardware. If I turn off the PC and start it again works fine, I was also able to upload 2GB of video files to YouTube with no problems at all. As long as I run OS (Windows 7 64bit) or programs like text editors, browsers, video editors, audio editors, internet radio etc. It runes fine. But when I start games it just a no go. To give an example: Mass Effect 3, StarCraft II, Saint's Raw The Third, Borderlands.
My BIOS information; don't know if it will help:
    BIOS version: E1656IMS.10E
    BIOS build:     08/30/2010 15:58:14
    EC version:    1656 EMS1 ver.4.08
    EC build:        06/03/2010

I could assume (since you've started doing stuff to the bios) that you've done this already, but to make sure, have you checked the usage/temperature of your graphics card?
Actually I didn't do that... till now. For last 4 hours I have been running some games and programs to determine the usage and temperature on the graphics card. Here are the results:
    Temperature in house was 24ᵒC.
While normal Windows 7 running temp. is around 50ᵒ to 54ᵒC
Watching video in 720p from hard drive temp. -> 55ᵒ to 56ᵒC
    Games:
Book of Unwritten Tales (one game that is not going black screen on me), point and click adventure game -> 57ᵒC to 63ᵒC
Starcraft II -> 73ᵒC and black screen (5 to 7 minutes of play)
Mass Effect 3 -> 67ᵒC to 72ᵒC goes black screen
Borderlands -> 72ᵒC to 75ᵒC goes black screen
The Catalyst Control Center (CCC) from Ati I use is 13.1 the GPU is 625 MHz and the Memory of the GPU is 1000MHz. Fan goes around 30%.
Looks normal to me, no 90ᵒC.
Right after I end writing this post and publish it I will try to open the Notebook to at least try find any suspicious things inside. I will probably clean it, but there will be no real hardware intervention. I'm not that good with IT or electronics to try it by myself. So if any just cleaning from dust and a look inside.
P.S. There is one more test I might try tomorrow, run a game on a TV through HDMI to see if the problem will occur if it will that means it's not the display.
    UPDATE:
Seems playing games in window mode might eliminate the problem. All above test's were done if full screen.

  • MSI R9 270X - Black Screen after Win7 logo

    Hello there.
About a week ago I upgraded my PC, buying several components and putting it to work. Here's the specs.
    Main Board: M5A97 EVO R2.0
    Bios Version: Latest
Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 270X TwinFrozr OC Edition 2Gb
    PSU: Don't know
12v rail Rating of listed PSU:
    CPU: AMD FX 8350 4.0Ggz BE SkAM3+
    Memory: 8Gb Crucial Ballistix DDR3-1600Mhz
    SSD/ HDD: Western Digital WD10EZRX-00A8LB0 1TB
CPU COOLER: The one that came with the CPU
    Raid Card: Onboard
    Sound Card: Onboard
OC: (Yes / No) Don't know
    Operating System: Win 7 SP 1 64
So, it worked just fine for about 3 days. Last Saturday night I tried to open Google Chrome after some gaming and the the system froze. I got a screen with vertical black and white stripes. I had to reboot the system and it gave me a black screen, crashing again, after the Win Logo at start up. At this time I was running either 14.7 or 14.9 ATI drivers.
I could only start the PC on Safe Mode. Removing the drivers and getting Windows general VGA card settings would allow me to use Windows in normal mode though. Once I installed the Graphic Card's drivers it crashed on reboot, always with the black screen after Win logo. I installed several ATI drivers, namelly 14.9, 14.11 beta, 13.12... and nothing worked.
I flashed the Mother Board BIOS to the latest version, formatted the HDD doing a fresh install of Win 7, installed Catalyst first and then the drivers, the drivers without catalyst, etc. and nothing worked, always getting a black sreen on reboot once the Graphic Card's drivers were installed. I even swapped the Graphic Card to a different slot to no avail.
Right now I'm using my old Radeon HD 5670 with the latest drivers and everything works just fine. It even works fine if I keep both Graphic Cards installed with the monitor plugged to the older card. I find this odd since to do so, Windows loads both cards drivers with no errors. But once I switch to the new card everything goes black.
Can someone help me out? I've tried to contact my vendor's technical support through mail but they're not answering. I fear that I'll have to report it as DOA and swap it out, which will take quite some time taking into consideration the way things tend to work around here.
    EDIT - I don't have a 2nd system to test it on.

Nope. Not driver issue at all. I tested at least 3 different drivers, all with the same result. Besides, I used both Driver Fusion and Driver Cleaner and CClean to remove any non-deleted registry entries. Always got the same problem. Went as far as formating the drive and doing a clean Win install. The problem persisted.
Tried installing drivers without Catalyst to no avail. Tried installing Cataltst first and then the drivers. Nothing. It always crashed omce the drivers were installed.

  • N560gtx-ti twin frozr 2-Black screens

Basically The card is 2 days old and Ive been having huge issues since I opened the box. When I went to download the drivers the moment the load was done The computer just froze a black screen with power to the mouse and monitor but not to the key board. I read That if you dont have power to your keyboard via Numbers lock it could be your Mobo and not your gpu. Heres my Set up
    Gigabyte Ga-z68ap-d3 Mobo
    Intel core i5-2500k
    Patriot 4gb ram ddr3-1333MHz (2)
    600w diablotek psu
Things Ive tried:Ive downloaded Drivers from the disc I was given from the Msi Website and From Nvidas Website. I also tried older Drivers But still didnt do anything. I tried different Cable heads(dvi/hdmi/avg)and different monitors.  As of right now I can only access My computer without having the perma black screen thru windows safe mode. I read that you have underclock the gpu to help ease the psu if power is the problem. I dont know much when it comes to computers I tried for like 15hours by myself with no luck so Now im here on my knees beggin haha.
    Thanks

Well just bought me A 600 watt thermaltake
    Thats a bit rash
Didn't you want to test first and then make such a decision ?
By all means get a better PSU but I would have first checked out the card on another known working system.

  • MSI 990FXA-GD80 black screen

    Hello there
    Specs:
    What I had:
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition
    GIGABYTE GA-880GA-UD3H
    XFX Radeon HD 6970 2GB GDDR5
    Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 16GB CL9
    Western Digital Caviar® Black 1TB
    2x Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EADS 1TB
    OCZ SSD Vertex 4 Series 2.5" 128GB
My computer suddenly crashed with a BSOD while surfing the web. When it restarted I got past the usual Gigabyte screen - followed by a black screen telling me "Beginning to update backup BIOS ---- Updating " then it restarted again, going into a loop with the same thing happening again and again.
So I figured that the motherboard had crashed, so I bought:
    MSI 990FXA-GD80
Thinking that would solve the problem.
I rebuild my computer today with the new motherboard, plugged everything and was ready to go-
The first message I got was telling me that my cpu or my ram was changed, and gave me the option to either 1- enter BIOS or 2- boot with default values.
I entered BIOS, checked that everything was OK, saved and rebooted... Got past the MSI-screen - followed by a black screen telling me "NTLDR is missing, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to restart", which I did.
My comp then rebooted, but this time both my screens stayed black :O
I have now tried to restart my computer several times, but my screens stay black.
My monitors are plugged in with DVI and HDMI.
    Solutions I have tried:
Removing the motherboard battery. and starting without it.
changing to my old graphic card, ATI Radeon 5830.
Removing the power for 15 mins.
Unplugging all the hard drives, except the SSD. (which my OS is installed at).
I have now also ordered AMD FX-8150 8-Core Processor.

    Quote
"NTLDR is missing, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to restart",
Did you use the ame HDD for boot without re-installing the OSD ?
This could be a case of having an AHCI mode OS HDD and your current board is still set to IDE ?
    That X4 955 only supports 1066 or 1333 memory.
Borrow the other PSU. Insert only one RAM module.
    Do a full CMOS clear.
Retest and do a fresh OS installation and all curent drivers.

  • MSI R7 260x black screen @ login

    Gday all
Recently i purchased a R7 260X and am having troubles.
I uninstalled all my previous drivers and shut down my pc, put my new card in, installed the latest drivers and restarted. Upon restarting i was greeted with a black screen where my login should be. Without any drivers installed i can do everything normal (except obviously games/blue rays etc) and WITH drivers, i can only start up in safemode or im greeted with the black screen
I have tried the drivers that came with the cd, from the msi website and the amd website, non of which seem to work. Someone in a previous thread said he had the same issue and fixed his card by flashing the bios. I dont consider my self techy enough to be wanting to fiddle around with that.
If anyone could give me some ideas on what to do that would be great

Then i shut down windows 8 . Power the notebook hit del enter the New flashed bios hit f9 for optimal settings then  save changes and restart. After the restart black screen. What did i made wrong?
You need to use included "FLASHWIN.BAT" [which contain all required parameters] to flash it,
else your notebook will be bricked.

  • MSI 8800gt BSOD ( black screen )

BLACK screens of death. I was going to post in one of the numerous other threads with this problem but i saw someone get yelled at to make their own thread so here is mine. After playing cod4 for extended periods of time. sometimes and only sometimes my monitor will go black and either the audio will continue as normal... or it will loop. Windows says the nv4.dll got stuck in an infinite loop. Either way i have to hard reboot my computer and its normal again.
    http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=27500 <--- my psu
i have already clean sweeped the old nvidia driver and have the newest one installed.
gpu max temp 74° after hours of playing crysis.
At this point i wish i was getting artifacts, just so id know i had a bad card.
Edit: oh yeah heres what evenviewer has to say.
The driver nv4_disp for the display device \Device\Video0 got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.

you have a good point it must not be my card it works fine in my friends machine. it also works fine in my machine for the most part. Of course when i plugged it in his machine i didnt put a svideo cable in the back of the card. The problem is, as i previously stated that the problem only occurs when the svideo cable is plugged in and active.
I came here for help, and instead of help i get a message telling me not to bump my post, which was already in the top 3 slots anyways so im not sure if that is really a bump or not. Its not like i bumped it from the second page. Also i get a reply telling me that i have been told tons of things to do, but i do nothing.  I think if i come back here and ask for help, it should be assumed i have not just ignored the suggestions and that im still having problems. Almost all the suggestions had already been done before my first post a month ago. The suggestions were also, over a month old, and i will admit i know absolutely nothing about computers... thats why i came here. ...but before i came here i had already done extensive testing on my rig, before i sought outside help. So, contrary to my instincts that a bad cpu clock would not bust a video card.. only when the svideo cable is plugged in. i tested my machine yet again for the same things i did last month, yesterday. For 23 hours I ran orthos, and passed without even a hitch. i even played some bioshock while i was running it. Not the best performance, but it still booted up and ran. I Used a better powersupply, same results. svid in = crash.. svid unplugged = works. I even wasted a month of my time and now cannot return the card to where i purchased it from bc my in store warranty is up. All bc i listened to someone on this forum who said i might have a bad pci slot. The rig passed all the test overclocked, and at stock values. All other test were done at stock stettings. 23 hours is a long time to test something when you already know it works. I really just want to know what is causing this problem. I mean why can't the video card work as intended, when the svideo cable is active. The testing of the cpu so many times is confusing, but i have only recently tried another psu. Maybe when the second monitor(tv) is active it requires more amps. Still very unlikely but i can understand how that would work. Although, 34amps of Antec power on the combined 12v rail, should be way more than enough to power a 8800gt. Im just taking a stab in the dark, but if i had to guess. i would say the memory controller on the video card cant allocate the memory for both monitors correctly. Please if anyone has some helpful info, share it with me. I do not have a backup vga, and i cannot return it to the retailer now.
also all the test were done, with the vga at msi settings. However if i play unreal tournament 2004 with card overclocked it will freeze up during gameplay. However, I can play crysis, turok, cod4, ect with the same clock speeds on vga fine. Although, all of That is with the svideo disabled. If i enable it, all of them will crash eventually.

  • MSI 890GXM-G65 Black Screen

Hey guys, new member, but Ive been a longtime reader.
I have the MSI 890GXM-G65 motherboard with the following other components:
    AMD X4 820 CPU
    8GB (4x2GB DDR3 1333) ram
    1TB Western Digital
    Antec High Current 400W PSU
    DVDRW
I have a black screen on the PC when it boots. The monitor doesn't turn on at all. I removed all peripherals except CPU, motherboard, ram and power supply.
    Here's what I have tried:
    1. Replaced RAM with other known working ram
    2. Tried one stick in each of the 4 slots individually.
    3. Tried a different power supply.
    4. Installed a PCI express video card.
    5. Switched CPUS to an AMD B73 CPU
    6. Tried VGA, DVI and HDMI on the motherboard output.
None of these things have worked. The CPU fan spins at what appears to be full speed, all four blue LEDs are on, and there is no video.
Do you have any suggestions as to what I can do?

It isn't a new build. It was working before with these exact specs for about a year. This is my HTPC, so I don't use it  too often, last used a week ago. I turned it on today and got nothing. So I've been replacing every part I can.
Forgot to mention  that I also cleared the CMOS, which did nothing.

  • Black screen, sound only in iDVD 08

I can confirm that the latest updates to iLife 08 fix the black screen scenario in iDVD 08 with Leopard for my G5. I found this fault in the previous iDVD level on loading Leopard and eventually bought iLife 08 - only to hit the same fault, until I got the updates.
