MSI FX5600 TD256 Problems

Hi all. This is my first time on these boards and must say the info i have got from it is outstanding. Keep it up.
I need some help.... I use an MSI KT4 Ultra via KT400 chipset based M/B with an AMD XP2600+. 1024MB 2700 ram. MSI FX5600 TD256mb G/C. 120gb H/D. Thermaltake power supply 480w. Water cooled.
My problem is that the PC starts up and runs ok for a while but all of a sudden the monitor goes blank. The CPU fan still runs but all else fails. ie, case fans, CD drives, etc.
The only way i can get it to work again is by removing the G/C and reinserting again. It makes no difference if i just turn off all power to the PC. This again works fine for a while and then it happens again?
Can anyone tell me if this is a common problem or what it could be. I have seen others mention the power supplies but mine is not the cheap type and surely 480w is ample?
I am sorry if something here is not listed. Let me know if any other info is required and i will post.
I forgot to say. I have put in an old G2 G/c from my old system for now and have not had a problem so i can assume it is something to do with the G/C?
I do not know if i need new drivers or BIOS? I can never get into the MSI live update for this. Does anyone know how to get them and especially for the BIOS, how do you instal them (in detail, I do not want to dammage anything).
Thanks in advance
MSI KT4 Ultra-FISR (MS6590). MSI FX5600 TD256 256mb. AMD XP2600+. 1024mb 2700 ram, (2x 512). 120gb maxor h/d. Thermaltake Xaser11 case + 480w p/s. Water cooled. Win XP pro

Hi there. Since you are talking about flashing BIOS's, may I ask a question? (OK, another one.  )
I was looking through some of my old downloads on my hard drive and in my MSI folder, I came across an upgraded BIOS for my MSI Ti4200-VTD64 (MS-8870). The file is GF4Ti4200_4.25.00.37_250_500.rom, but I did not have an installer for it. I searched the MSI web site, but I didn't even see this file. I wouldn't have put it in that folder unless it came from MSI, so my question is, does anyone know how to install it, or where I can get an installer for it?
Thanks
(...and yes I'm familiar with the possible perils of flashing  )

    Hi,
I wouldn't even buy the FX5600, because as you can read nside this formum, there are lots of big problems with this card and the drivers.
I installed the card first in an win XP system, but could not get any newer game to run (e.g. age of mythology, morrowind, rise of nations, freelancer....)
Afterwards after my cpu died I instaled the card in an windows 2000 server system, and I still have exactly the same problem. 1 minute after starting the game the system crashes and starts write a memory dump.
Tried miniport driver update, tried driver update, tried driver cleaner, nothing helped so far.
My advice you should buy a graphic card that is known to have a working properly driver, e.g. as OpT1kN3rv told the Ti4800

  • FX5600-td256 Problem

    Right here goes..
Basically, after windows is installed. It uses its own driver to operate the card etc. I can watch DVD's run screen savers and even play the cheesy games u get with XP.
However, when the driver that is shipped with the card is installed, or I install the latest drivers from the nVidia download section, whenever I goto to play a dvd, do some graphic work etc, the system locks up, either restarts or just runs like sh**e.
I have come to the conclusion the card is knackered,,, or there is some incompatibilty with the board i am using.
I have installed all the latest via drivers, installed all latest graphics card drivers and even updated my bios.
I have the named graphics card and a DFI Lanparty KT400a Mobo

  • FX5600 TD256 - Crash

    Hi all.
I have asked previously about this problem, thought i had solved but it has come back again
I use an MSI KT4 Ultra (MS6590) and have updated all drives, Via chipsets and Bios to V1.4.  I also (try to) use the MSI FX5600 TD256.
The problem is that at different times the screen goes blank and says 'no power output'.  The PC is still running but the CD drives and some but not all fans stop running.
I thought it may be the PSU?  I use a Thermaltake Silent purepower 480w but from a previous post i had confirmed the PSU was o.k.
I now have an old Nvidia Riva TNT 2 Pro graphics card installed and this works perfectly fine. I can no longer instal the FX5600 as it will not boot.
I have read in other forums about the IRQ's & Ram issues.  Can someone advise me fully on how to check the IRQ's and change them if needed.
The ram i use is Excaliber PC2700 333mhz 2x512 cards.  How do i know if it is this causing problem.
I hope somebody can help? I can not believe an MSI motherboard causes conflicts with an MSI graphics card even when it states they are compatible.
There may just be an obvious solution but from the forums i have read so far i can not see one.
    HELP ME PLEASE

Which are the Fans that are not running?
Check all the power connectors again.
Look around the mobo and VGA card for bad caps.

  • MSI FX5600 VTDR128 Display Problem

I've just built a new PC using components listed below. When I switch the PC on the display comes up with coloured vertical lines every time. I believe its the graphics card. It checks the drives ok and beeps once then continues to boot up. I stuck a Win XP disc in the DVD drive and it started to boot. It even copied files to the hard drive so the rest of the PC must be working. Anyone got any suggestions.

    Maxtor 120Gb Drive
    Michael.

Ordered it from simply.co.uk. Phoned them yesterday and their arranging to collect and send out a new. Still waiting for the courier though.
Borrowed a Matrox PCI card from work. Fitted it last night and up pops the ASUS splash screen.   PC booted fine into Linux drive I had in their for testing. Just waiting for the new card now. All I've got to find out next is whether the software activation in XP is clever enough to see the hardware has changed. I'd like to keep my old PC.
    Thanks for your comments.

  • Issues with MSI FX5600 cards

In my part time i build computers from a small buisiness i started while in university.
I have several issues concerning the new MSI FX5600 Cards, that have not been completely answered in any post that i have read here in the forums or in the poor FAQ section of the MSI website.
These cards have been around long enough now that MSI should start taking Customer service into consideration and start answering some of these issues that many have mentioned and have yet to get an answer to.
The first Set are Hardware related. Second are Software.
HARDWARE#1 First off is the poor construction of the heatsink/fan assembly on these cards, the one im using now, along with pretty much every one i have seen has large gaps between the RAM chips and the heatsink ( well its not really a heatsink more like a heat spreader plate).
The solution given in this forum is for the consumer to do the work of assembler himself (thats pathetic). So i guess MSI should stamp "some assembly required on their boxes and drop the price some $50 for the time it takes a user to repair this problem.
MSI should hire some good assembly people at your factories! I have installed many cards over the years and by far this is the worst heatsink assembly i have seen, which is quite obviously due to MSI using cheap labour done at a rapid rate.
Or just abandon this one heat spreader plate idea and paste individual passive heatsinks on each ram chip, like Asus and many others do.
And best idea yet is to Recall all your cards and offer everyone a decent heatsink solution to replace this poor design.
HARDWARE#2 Why is there no temperature monitoring on these FX cards? Simple question however i have yet to see an answer. Will there be in the future, or is there no temperature monitoring due to lack of a hardware, or do we all have to go buy thermocouples and connect them to our heatsinks, if we want to know the temp of our cards. Given the above #1 it would also be good to know the temp of the RAM given that many of the chips have no heatsink at all connected to them.
HARDWARE#3 The unit that plugs into the back of the VIVO cards never quite stay plugged in well and are so short that due to a lack of slack in the cable weight put on it by pluging in other cables tends to cause the whole unit to become unplugged. Why not just make that cable a litle bit longer?
HARDWARE#4 (related to above vivo connector unit) why use a (infra red )IR reciever connected to the video card? Why not just supply a seperate ir reciever and have that connected to a USB port or somthing else. Does it really make sense to have IR using the AGP resources? Also the quality of the ir reciever is absolutely the cheapest i have ever seen, and is awkward to place in any usefull position without using tape to stick it it to somthing.
Hardware#5 Cheap Remote control. Lots of buttons on it however most are really useless, and dont work anyways.
Instead of providing these remotes free with the cards, make a good remote remote control that uses RF (radio frequencies) instead of the awfull IR, and that can actually controll common software that people would normally use, or that ships with operating systems like media player etc.. Also why not have it also act as a second mouse like other manufacturers do?
SOFTWARE #1 Lets start off with the IR software or driver, I have used several other IR recievers/software that work perfect within windows. HOWEVER MSI has the absolute worst i have ever seen. The memory leaks everyone has is a perfect example of how poor their IR hardware/software work together. Will you be providing some new drivers to fix this? Or was providing a remote control just a gimmick to try and capture a few early customers?
SOFTWARE #2 the media center is so awfull, due to many reasons here are some.
    a) for many people it wont even work to begin with
    b) the resolution and more importantly Refresh rate ( 60hz ) is just plain stupid. ( i dont know anyone who can stand looking at a 60hz refresh rate for more then a few min without getting a headache).
    c) use of remote control is full of bugs and is limited to this software alone.
    d) i have yet to find any way of even adding pictures or other media files to the lists (not that i really care) this just points out the poor user interface.
I could go on about how bad it is, but i wont.
I recommend that MSI re-think their media centre and just get rid of it all together and start from scratch on somthing new. Try looking at what competitors such as ati's software and even Nvidia have as thier media centres. Also just dont use Intervideo's WinDVD and do like Asus and go with Cyberlinks PowerDVD.
    c) lack of any monitoring software for video chip or ram heat status. This is related to the hardware comment #2
    d) 11 cd's software bundell. Who cares why do you guys hype this if its basically 11 cds of old games that dont even use direct x9 capabilites of the card, or apps that i would question if anyone would even use. Most would prefer a drop in price versus having this large cd set.
Well that is it for now. Normally i would get paid for my ideas and suggestions where i work full time as a product development technologist, But this short list I provide freely hoping that MSI get their act together and make a better product. There is lots of potential there however it would require much more in terms of fixing these bugs that really reduce customer satisfaction and thus reduce sales especially in the customer recommendation sales.
Two last comments not related to the cards:
    i) The packaging. is it really necessary to pay for the extra ink to put colorfull images within the inside of the box? could you not use that extra money saved and put it into either hiring better assemblers or making wires a little longer etc..?
ii) There is nothing mentioned in the manual concerning the Remote control its use or that of the media center.
It would now be nice if MSI would plese answer some of the above questions and sittuations and create a new FAQ for this card and have it available within the FAQ section of their website.
Thank you for reading this post.
    hope for some improvements soon

I echo these words too. :O

  • NX6800GT TD256 problems

hello. I purchase/bought a MSI NX6800GT TD256 and I noticed that this VGA card was made with production problems, and my 6800GT is with this problems... unfortunatelly (blue dots and my computer never initializate) - my power supply is a seventeam 400w and i was tested my card in 3 computers (same problems)
I entered in several forum and all say the same thing, MSI manufactured a wrong VGA card model during some time, with the cooler BBN (of plastic) and later modified the model placing a cooler called Cooper Ultra.
In the image, my model is the first picture and the correct model is the second.
but in the second image, besides in the site of MSI, it shows up the correct model, that is different from mine.
How should I proceed to change the model?
    Thank you

It seems that since the introduction of the PCI-e version of the 6800 series... they have also started using the black-reference cooler...
Take a look at the photo of the NU pci-e in the photo...

  • Msi Fx5600

I have the MSI FX5600 and I have coolbits enabled. When I set it to manual overclock I can change settings and test settings and apply settings. I check apply settings at startup.  But when I reboot it resets my memory overclock back to default 550Mhz. But it doesn't change my core overclock settings.  What's the sense in overclocking if it resets everytime I reboot? Why does it do this?  Help!!!!
I get pretty good performance when I overclock it. I let it auto detect and apply what it has detected. But resets memory to default at boot.

I'm using the lastest coolbits. It doesn't revert to default values after every boot just once in a while. I've researched the meory chips on my vid card and they are rated to 550Mhz. I know that doesn't leave much room to oc but It doesn't give me any problems when o/c'ing. Iv'e got core at 380 up from default 325 it has never reverted back to default. I've had my memory up to 650 up from 550 and all runs stable except it resets memory clock back to 550 say every 3rd startup. I've noticed that it doesn't reset after a soft reboot only after I have turned off computer and turn it back on.

  • Msi FX5600 VTDR128 + 3D!Turbo Experience Temperature issue

I bought a MSI FX5600 VTDR128 board, to use on a Abit VP6 board  - 2x PIII 933@133 FSB, 512 MB SDRAM 133 CL3, PSU AOPEN 300 W - installed MSI/Nvidia drivers 44.03 and 3D!Turbo Experience, first the one that came with the drivers and utilities CD, this one reporting erroneous memory and GPU speed (100 MHz and 54 MHz respectively). After that, downloaded and installed latest version of 3D!Turbo Experience, claiming support for FX boards. This  new software reported correctly the core and memory speeds on 2D mode 270/550 MHz, but on 3D mode 270/550 MHz keeps reporting 270/550 MHZ. The temperature and fan values only appeared the first time I ran the program, never showing up in the subsequent runs. The values for Fan/Temp were: 48 ºC/2700 RPM (ambient temp +/- 27 ºC) after playing GTA Vice City for 30 min, with the game still running.  After playing GTA Vice City for 1 hour, one sistem notification box (not from the HTML/Flash frontend) appeared notifying for unusual temperature - 255 ºC   8o . On the previous version of 3D!Turbo Experience a similar box showed up with 127 ºC. In either situations the HTML frontend kept reporting absolutely normal values (48 ºC/2700 RPM). The board is warm to touch (+/- 40 ºC), both the heatsink and the PCB. I find this very strange and i'm not sure if the notification box temp. value is correct - are 127 º C the upper limit of the temp. range (127=(2^7)-1)  on the previous software version and 255 (255=(2^8)-1) on the latest software version ?
The board does not crash when the box appears and keeps running steady as a rock, altough after that i closed the game for protection.
Anyway, I am terribly scared, considering those temperature values may represent a terrible overheating situation. Please HELP!!! . Thanks for your consideration.
    Regards.

    More problems playing 3D Games:
3D Turbo XP stops reading Fan and Temperature after playing for 20 min. The alarm starts sounding and voltages climb real high: GPU:3.060, Memory I/O:3.060, Memory Core:6.120.

  • MSI FX5600 'drawing error'

Hello all -  I just purchased a MSI GF FX5600 128 w/VIVO and I am having some problems getting it to work with more than 4 bits of color and 480 x 640 resolution.
When I install the new card, Windows XP pro boots fine, and the windows splash screen looks good.  The log on screen is a beautiful 1024x768.  When I pick my username, my desktop loads, but after about three seconds, everything 'pixelates' and the system freezes and reboots.
I throw my old GF MX200 in, and Windows goes through the system check and then boots to the splash screen.  I log in and windows find the 'new' hardware (the original old card).
I uninstalled all the old drivers and shut down.  I installed the new FX5600 and booted up.  I can get into windows this way with 480x640 res. and 4 bit color, and by going to the device manager, windows sees the MSI FX5600.  However, when I try to install the drivers and reboot, I get the same problem as above (after about 3 seconds, windows pixelates and I have to restart it).  I have tried drivers that came on the CD with the card, drivers from Nvidia, and drivers from MSI's website.  Same result.
When I put my old card back in to try to find help, I receive an error box from windows, telling me "The driver for the display device was unable to complete the drawing operation"  Error signature is "szAppName: Drivers.Display szAppVer: 10DE0312A191231462  szModName: nv4_disp.dll szModVer: 6.14.1.4345"
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Oh - I am running Athlon 1.4 Ghz, ASUS A7M266 mobo, 300 w/power supply, 512 DDR ram.
    Thanks!

The card was running at 4x.  Thanks for the suggestion tho.  I did finally get the card working -  somehow, by uninstalling old drivers, rebooting, letting windows find the old card, then putting the new FX drivers on the old card.  Then when it asked to reboot, I shut down and installed the new card.  This allowed the new card to be used okay.
However, i am still having issues playing games, much like snorbitz explains in his post.

  • MSI FX5600-VTDR128 shows vertical lines and blinking dots even in BIOS

Just got a MSI FX5600-VTDR128 and tested it with three different mobos. This issue happens in all of them.
The screen shows blinking dots and vertical lines even in bios sceen, and also in Windows XP.
This is a random issue, I mean... it doesn't happen all the time, just once in a while!!
I want to avoid all the RMA pain in the *** as I bought it via Internet, and wonder if there's somthing I can do as flashing bios, testing the card's memory etc... before sending back my card :(
As it's a issue that also happens in bios I'm afraid this is a bad hardware failure and the only thing I can do is to send my card back, am I right?
    Thanks in advance...

    Hi!
Well... I managed to change the DVI mode of my LCD screen to normal analog mode and.... BINGO!! no blinking dots and no lines!! :D
I think I'm going to avoid RMA hell at last!. I'll keep analog mode, as far as I know it's way faster than DVI (16ms vs 20ms) and I'm going to avoid a real hell here :D
I passed through a RMA with a DDR400 module and I can say it was a real pain.
I'm into advanced computing (power user 8))since 1994, and I'm really dissapointed about how things are developing. I mean hey! there was absolutely no crap with my 486 DX2, my Pentium 100 & Pentium 120 nor with my AMD K6-III 450Mhz.
Almost no mem/mobo/vga issues or incompabilities...
As technology develops, now with DDR400, lots of crappy hardware, lots of incompabilities, RMAs, strange issues, faulty hardware....
Please note it's just my point of view, but it's a sad  reality...
Well I'm becoming a doomsayer and pessimist, and I'm having a happy day since I managed to solve my problem so I'll become perpetually overoptimistic happy
btw I'm from Spain (Europe) and I usually buy from a very big hardware shop because it has very good prices (185€ for my FX5600 card), the downside of this is the shop being 600Km from my city!...
Have a happy nice day you all!! :D
PD: pls don't hate me, gfilitti :D

  • Questions about MSI FX5600-VTDR128

    Hi,
I'm considering purchasing the MSI FX5600-VTDR128 graphics card, but I have a few questions that I wondered if anyone could help me with.  First, has anyone had major problems with the card?  Also, I wondered if the tv-out feature would work using only rca composite cable because I do not have an S-video port on my tv.
    Thanks

I'll be honnest...  it might not be a good purchase if you are a gamer.  You can find other MSI card doing better.
The major problems i've seen is:
      - Slow for games
      - IRx application for the remote control have serious
memory leak and i don't know if MSI really care about
that.  People yell about that in every forums but
there's simply no MSI answer!  You often have to
kill this task and throw the remote control in the
garbage if you don't want to loose memory.
I'm acutally loosing 8k per second.  Any programmer
from MSI forgot to do a "MyObject = Nothing" after
a "MyObject = New Something()"???  Common, it's easy
to find this problem.  it take exactly 8192 bytes...
someone can find where you ask to the OS to give you
        8K of ram!?  ANSWER MSI!!!!!
      - Media Center reset your screen to 1024x768 with a
screen refresh of 60Hz!!!  Each time you get out of
Media Center, it keep that stupid resolution.
(Everybody yell after that too in the forums, this
        is crappy programmation).
Of course like the moderator said... satisfied customer never come to write on the forums.  But to be honnest, not every customer are computer Wiz and many customer think that it's normal to reboot a PC every 1-2 hours... "It's normal, it's just a PC after all"... lol.  Common!  The problem is that the PC works FINE!  The bad programs doesn't!  And it's not normal to find such an untested software on the market!
Hopefuly, thoses who make hardware only are more serious and test their stuff before selling them.
And to finish, you asked if it was able to work with an RCA because you don't have an S-video yet.  I would say, yes because there's an adaptor with 2 plugs of each (input/ouput, for s-video and rca).
I've not been able to make mine work yet... i'm trying to find out what's wrong.  mine is plugged onto my video RCA output.  I setup my video to send the signal on the rear RCA plugs but the Media Center just get nothing!  But i'm sure there's something i didn't understood.  It's the first time i try to watch tv on a comp...
hope this might help to make your choice.

  • Help installing a MSI NX7600GS-TD256 GeForce 7600GS 256MB

    Hello,
I was recently given this video card by a friend... MSI NX7600GS-TD256 GeForce 7600GS 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card. The problem is that it didn't come with any installation instructions. I'm putting it in this motherboard http://www.foxconnchannel.com/product/Motherboards/detail_spec.aspx?ID=en-us0000114.
I know the graphics card is compatible with the motherboard. My question is do I have to connect the graphics card to the power supply in my computer.

    gallienus,
Also next time please list your specs so we can get the full picture of what is in your rig.
This will also give us a chance to point out any issues which might be a problem for you.
    Take Care,
    Richard
