MSI FX5900-TD or MSI FX5700 Ultra Need Help

What card is the better one to buy and why?
My Mainboard MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR(601-6570-030)

AMD 2800+ 333 mhz FSB Boxed AXDA2800DKV4D Y822396250958 AQXEA 0318MPMW
1999 AMD Barton (or though it says nothing on the box about being a Barton and having 512kb L2 Cache) is there any way to tell what it is? If it is can the bus be overclocked to 200 FSB ok?
CPU Fan Cooler Master Aero 7 Lite (CP5-8J71F) is this fan ok or would I be best using the one that came with the CPU?

Thanks for any help!

The 256 MB version will allow you to load heavier 3D scenes in its memory with great performance, but the 128 MB version will have more bandwidth and it will generally be faster, although when the time come that a 128 MB video card will run out of memory, then the card will start to swap memory between its memory and AGP memory, thus it will be much slower that having a 256 MB version a bit slower.
Confused?
I´d go for the 256 MB version. although it has 2.8 Ns memory and you could reach just 714 MHz memory clock speed, but the other card will have less memory.
It´s just an opinion, but I would choose 256 MB version if I were you, and if I had the money

  • KT3 Ultra: Need help badly!

    Hello, folks:
I just bought one MSI KT3 Ultra motherboard. Unfortunately I got a very strange problem. After I turn on the power, the machine can enter the self-test but it will shutdown soon automatically(10 to 60 seconds). I think it is the motherboard which shutdowns the power supply automatically, but why? I am using AMD 1600+ processor and I attached a good fan on it. When I checked the temperature of the processor, it is from 33 to 47 centigrade and it is quite normal. Could you give me suggestions? I am really confused and worried about that.
        Many thanks!!
        Tao Zhang

I have to ask.. but did you order that mainboard from newegg.com in the last week? I had that exact same problem with 2 Kt3 ultras from Newegg.com ordered last week.. though one would make into windows before it powered down.. my cpu, ram and video card, etc. all worked fine in another machine.. so i ended up sending the mainboard back. I would be interested to know..

  • MSI NF4 Ultra Platinum help desperately wanted

    Hi all,
hope that someone can help me.
My new nf4 Ultra platinum arrived today with new gfx card so dismantled my existing pc setup (msi neo2 platinum) and got going on building it. Everything was going quite well and installed xp and so forth. Installed Fear and within seconds of it starting I get this constant loud tone coming from case; before I manage to exit i get a long loop of the game sound before it reboots. Had my Opteron 146 at 3.0ghz with the neo2 but can't even be at 2.0 without problem playing a game.
I've got 2 x 1gb OCZ Gold GTX which I ran at 3 4 3 8 but tbh am quite lost with all the settings on this board. I'm only a beginner when it comes to clocking and with problems all ready i'm a little panicky. Excuse me - its been a long day and i'm really tired with my head aching.
Would really appreciate some guidance and maybe some help clocking my opty back to 3.0ghz on this board - but first, can someone tell me what the constant loud tone means?
    Many thanks

Check your memory brand and type and then check voltage that it requires, not all ram runs at 2.5 so you may need to increase your ram voltage.
Also manually adjust your memory timings to 2.5-5-5-7-2T until you can get the machine stable.

Alright, now you see what I have. That is just about everything excluding things like my wireless mouse and keyboard.
So, I have been perfecting this build for awhile now, but I'm not the most experienced at overclocking. I've used about 5-6 motherboards during about a year trying to get my 3770k to overclock. Yes, I wasted quite a bit of money. I recently RMA'd my CPU because I thought it was defective since I failed to overclock. Now, I have a brand new one. Then, I switched my 2133 G.Skill Sniper memory for more basic Corsair  memory. I thought possibly it could have been my memory that was causing issues since it was about the only non-new part left up until now. Now, this build is has all completely new parts. I don't think anything is defective.  Lastly, my OS has recently been installed. About 2 days ago. All drivers /windows updates are up to date.
Alright, I gave my opinion on my hardware / OS and explained that. So, now I will try to explain my overclocking attempts. I first tried to overclock using the basic OC Genie II settings untouched. However, that didn't work out for me. I did get BSODs eventually or programs that crashed. Sometimes, games have crashed. I'm not doing anything overly important on this computer. I have a lot of other non-overclocked computers for various things like work ect. So, I am free to be able to play with this computer and try to get it OC'd properly. So, don't worry about that. I've read about 10-20 guides on overclocking and such, and for some reason I can't get things to be stable to the point that programs don't crash or fail. It seems with the Z77A-G65, there's no offset voltage tweaking option. If there is, I can't find it. I've read a lot that if you disable all power saving and use a fixed voltage that it can be more stable than using an offset voltage. Higher temps and more power usage I know.
So far, I've tried both, and neither have really worked for me. If I put vdroop offset control to 100% my temperatures increase but it can handle it. So, I tried setting the CPU to be fixed at 1.3 while at 4.5ghz. That was still not stable. Prime was ok, but some games and programs crashed. So, it wasn't stable for real world usage. Most of the time actually prime will be ok unless I try to put it at 4.8ghz with mostly default settings. So, after I tried 4.5ghz and 1.3 fixed voltage with no power saving options on, I tried bringing the voltage up to 1.350 which increased the temperature under load to about 85C. This wasn't stable either, so I went up a bit higher, well alot in overclocking standards. I went up to 1.4 just to see the temperatures and it got up to about 85C a occasionally higher. This was not stable either. So I tried turning off all C states and other power saving options and setting the vdroop offset control to 100% while also setting the voltage to auto. This wasn't stable. Usually when I set the voltage to auto , it will crash at anything above 4.7ghz and not boot. Anything below that it will boot, and even be capable of running prime or intel burn test, but it won't remain completely stable with all applications. Even basic programs like Firefox crashes sometimes. I do have one program that is pretty nice for benchmarking in the real world, and that's Amazon's cloud drive uploader. I ran it for a bit and it will eventually crash if I'm overclocking. I have tried some games like Diablo 3, Borderlands 2, ect and they have crashed as well on a clean windows 8 install.
I've also tried some of the turbo templates that only OC during turbo boost but idle at normal speeds/ 1.6ghz. This wasn't stable either. So, I'm at a loss, I've tried Turbo overclocking, Fixed voltage overclocking, offset voltage overclocking, power saving options on , and power saving options off. No luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

First off, Ivy CPU's under conventional cooling solutions are terrible OC'ers. 85C is too hot for everyday use under stress. Mid 70C's or better still, less is recommended. All significant power saving features are lost once the CPU V. is taken out of Auto. VDroop at 100% supplies the most voltage and decreases it as the percentage is lowered. Turbo OC is often the best over a CPU Ratio OC. From what I can read, the CPU you have is average and should run stable at 44X or maybe 45X on Auto CPU V., all power saving features intact.
32GB of RAM is great for rendering, graphics and audio/video creation, but if the goal is a gaming machine, 8GB to 16GB is more than enough.
    Added: Recommended settings; SA 0.965-0.970v's, PLL 1.82-1.84v's, I/O 1.07v's.

  • MSI 645 Ultra Overclock HELP!

I have the system detailed below, and are having some problems overclocking.
I Have Bios 1.9, with AGP fastwrites.
I upgraded TwinMos PC2700 to Corsair 3200, but no improvement except I was allowed to move from Normal to Turbo memory timings, can not get to Ultra!
Even If I back of memory to 266, and then wind up the FSB, I get an unstable system.

  • MSI 9600GT..need help with volt mods?

Okay, anybody with an MSI 9600GT (T2D512) have any luck finding volt mods to raise the GPU and/or Memory voltages?  How about it Bosskiller, think you can massage some MSI tech to write me a bios to raise the GPU voltage to 1.3 or 1.4 volts?  I'm only about 2000 3D Mark03/05 points away from top place in that class..but I need more volts!  LOL.    Gigabyte has a software program which raises voltage in the GUI, but unfortunately, it wont work on a non-Gigabyte card:(.  Think you can get 10-20 bios editors to work on that for me??  Hahahah.
    Paul

@Aaron,  cooling is stock MSI "Seaweed" fan..cards run 37-48C max benchmarking (using OCZ feeZe heatpaste compound).
@Frankenputer, yes I know the implications, if I fry the cards..I won't cry about it..
All other users/readers, remember, modding is like gambling..if you cant afford to lose..dont do it!

  • MSI GE 620 - Need help changing intergrated graphics over to NVIDIA card.

Hello, I don't know if I should be posting this question in the VGA Products section or the NVidia boards section but here goes anyway!
I got an MSI GE 620. Now after I installed all my games onto the new system I notice something was off. My computer was using the on board Intel HD Family Graphics card to run my games instead of my NVIDIA Geforce GT 540M. Now I went to the NVIDIA settings and set the 3D settings to run on the NVIDIA High Performance Processor. Now some games ran off the NVIDIA card like Shogun 2, Dawn of War II, but a lot of the others wouldn't such as World of Warcraft.
Now I've tried a lot of things to turn off the Intel HD card and make the system favor the NVIDIA but it doesn't. When I run dxdiag it just displays the Intel card and not the NVIDIA. Now obviously the BIOS is running the Intel card first on start up and I was told to just turn off the Intel card in BIOS and enable the PCI (If that's what I called in BIOS?) card which is the NVIDIA card in BIOS but I can't get into BIOS. I press F2 on start up and if just gives information about the laptop and I can see any options to change the video settings or display.
I also tried to disable the Intel card in device manger but the screen just goes black and I have to force shut down and restart with the card off and I have to enable it again to get a normal screen resolution and such.
I am just completely lost on how to turn off the on board graphics and make my NVIDIA Geforce GT 540M the only card that runs off everything. I would really appreciate any help on the matter as I'm just upset since the computer is less than a week old and I can't use it to its full power.
    Thank you.

is there no way to make it appear as GT 540M instead of intel HD family in the system/dxdiag/etc... ?
For what purpose though? You can select in the nVidia control panel what software you want the GT 540M used for. The whole point of the technology is to reduce power consumption, so it only switches to the dedicated card when absolutely necessary. Have a look in the global settings (in the nVidia control panel) and see if it will use the GT 540M as the primary device. I don't have a notebook with switchable graphics so don't know what settings there are exactly.

I have a KT4 Ultra Mobo.  AMD 1800+. Thermal take PSU 420W. Coppershim. Thermal grease. I changed the FSB to 133 from 100.  And everytime i do heavy load install, like updating winxp to sp1. it keeps rebooting.  this thing is so unstable.  Please help.  I need some advice.  I also have 3 case fans. and two fans on the PSU.  idle temp is 45 degrees.  some people here have lower temps than that.  why is that?

i have an update... i used the cooler xp to cool the cpu down during installation.  it worked, but as the installation goes, it had an extraction fail due to lack of memory or swap file or corrupt file.  memory is fine.  so i was thinking, maybe it's the cooler xp processor usage.  any ideas?

  • Kt3 ultra need help! no display

hey everyone just wondering if any one can help me.
    i have a kt3 ultra (ms 6380e ver. 1.0) with amd athalon 1900+ xp
512mb if pc 2300 ddr ram. recently my brother told me that the computer crashed and that it wouldn't turn on. after some investigation the computer turns on just no display on the monitor.
i decided to jumper reset the cmos and try to boot it up. then it beeps 2 close beeps and then followed by another 1 beep. the message on the screen is "cmos settings wrong" F1 to go to setup , F2 load default and boot but no matter which one you pick pretty much the same out come.
F1 - it brings you into cmos everything looks normal and then once you save and exit the comp restarts and no beeps and no display until you jumper reset cmos again and then the messages come back.
F2 - it will go through post and then there is a windows bar loading and it freezes there. so you have to restart it and after you restart it the problem comes again. no display and forces you to jumper reset the cmos and the error message comes again.
i have tried troubleshooting the system.
-my video card works when i tried it on another computer and with another videocard the same problem occurs.
-i reseatted pretty much everything, memory, cpu, video card all the cables.
-i swapped the cmos batterys between the operationg computer and the non operationg battery so that should eliminate the battery problem
so pretty much what i haven't swapped with a known operationg component is the cpu, ram and motherboard.
i was just wondering what i should do now??? new motherboard? new cpu? new ram? i hope i can fix it tho.
any suggestions are very much appreciated thanks

I have a verry similar problem, tryed with both pc3200 and 2100 ram (the system has been running stable for aprox 3 years now..) i tryed to set the multiplier to 14 (even though its a palomino, and i know that it must be unlocked first) just for fun (cpu temp is 35idle 42load) and it just wont get a signal to the display... i tryed to reset cmos, and to take out the battery.. no effekt at all! my screen is completely black.. any good ideas or just throw the computer in the trash can ? (i dont think its the PSU since it happened when i turned up the multiplier... and it have been stable for so long , a 340W chieftec PSU the kind that came with the dragon series kabinets)

  • Need help with overclocking my x58 pro-e

hi i have this new mb from msi and i need help fixing stability issues :
ok here i go i did the normal oc to 3.1 that needed nothing voltage wise so now i need to go pro ^^ so plz help me out and 1 more thing if u know any thing about ssd and ide mode or there is any thing better plz help me out :>
ok i tried oc it to 4.2 it runs fine tell it hangs some times and freezes or even do some restarts on its own the usual i mean for a fail oc :P if u could help me out setting up my oc in a pro way i would love u for ever ^^
specs r writing down under ^^

OK i m back guys and sorry i took so long i tried some new O.C and i got so far as 3.7 on my cpu i saw that i had like really bad heat on the cpu on OCCT/prime and other  testing programs i easily got to 95+ witch i stoop not wanting to know where it will hit :P
then i opened my pc yanked the motherboard out removed the cooler and the IOH cooler cleaned them both up reapplied the Thermal Grease witch came with my Thermaltake ISGC-400 and for extra cooling i add a sec fan on top of the cooler fan (yes it made some extra noise but it works :P ) rebuild  it  and tried again and the result was :
    ideal temp: 60+ / load temp: 95+ / IOH temp: 85-95+ // and now :
SAME !!!! but the IOH dropped like a charm to 55 maybe 65 max .
so i know it was time to google some webpages and i saw some photos of CPU-Z all showing low core voltage and by low i mean the standard core i7 920 voltages !  mine was given by the auto bios setting so i continued searching tell i found out the higher the V.core is the high hte numbers are on the sensors !
i found out that a standard voltage will take me to 4GHz of speed so i tried it on my 3.7 (current speed )
and the result was lets just say WOW ! i think :
    ideal  temp 38+ / load temp: 83 (prime95) / IOH temp : 55-60 (after the cleaning / rergreasing)
so i tried it with my game (wow) and it never raise more than 65 max ! so if i over clocked it to 4K i dont think i will ever overheat it never the less i have a temp montering it with a max 85 on the alarm .
so far my tests and errors :
    Multiplier= x21
    bus speed = 177
    voltages:
    QPI: 1.30
CPU V.core : 1.28ish i cant realy tell from the bios
    CPU PLL: 1.82ish same thing
    speedstep=off/turbo=off/C1E=off/execute = off /over speed protection=off /V.tech=off/HPET=on(so numbers wont play much on cpu-z)
    now for ram :
3x6 ratio ( in bios in windows it shows 2:6 for some reason ) DRAM frequency is showing 531 Mhz
    9.9.24.88
    V=1.5
any thing above these settings will crash the pc/not booting at all and i feel its not a stable system now ether so tell me what im doing wrong here please since there was  a post just about like me in this forum but the man who made it never got back to you :> ty and realy sorry for the long post ^^

    Thanks a lot friends.
Every thread i created was about FX5700 because i own this card and thought that i made a wrong decision with that card -MSI FX5700 TD128- now i know it was a good buy.
Only 1 question left: why is the fill rate of FX5700 so poor and at G4TiSeries so high-2x much, does it have affect in compare to G4TiSeries?
