MSI FX600 sudden FPS drop (GeForce GT 325M)

Hello,
I've searched around for similar threads, but the results were inconclusive because the suggested fixes for this problem do not work for me.
When playing any game (tried LoL, Dota2 and Skyrim), the FPS drops every couple of minutes to 4-5 frames per second. If I alt-tab, wait ~10 seconds and then get back into the game, the FPS is back to normal. Then, after a few minutes, it happens again.
I tried fiddling with the GPU settings, I reinstalled the OS (Win 7 64-bit) and the drivers from the official MSI website. Nothing changed. It is not an overheating issue, as I only have this problem for one day, and the temperatures were not different before this (max 81 degrees celsius, cos I have a big-ass cooler). I do not have any antivirus installed. I can't remember doing anything out of the ordinary before this problem occurred.
Thanks in advance.

I have this same issue. It seems after about 5-10minutes after to gaming a game the FPS will suddening drop for about 5 minutes (unless, as you say, I alt+tab and give it a couple of seconds and go back to it). I have been trying to find a solution to this problem all over the internet, I have yet to find anything. I have tried updating drivers, tested out beta drivers for my Nvidia GeForce GT 325M on my MSI FX600 which I bought last january. If anyone has any idea how I could fix this, that would be great.

  • MSI GT683r Massive fps drop (CPU overheating)

    System Information:

    OS: Windows 7
    Brand: MSI GT683R-242
CPU: intel quad core i7-2630QM @ 2.00 GHz
    GPU: Nvidia GTX 560M 1.5 GB GDDR5
    RAM: DDRIII 16GB(4GB*4)
    HDD: 1TB (500GB*2 RAID 0)7200 RPM
Hello, I'm having a lot of problems with my cpu temperature being high especially when gaming and this results in getting intermittent FPS drops when gaming. My fps when gaming drops to about 10fps (this doesn't necessarily happen when I'm in a particular FPS intensive condition either, could happen when I'm just walking around in the world). I've noticed my CPU temperature is close to 90 degrees when this occurs (I realize it's due to the core temperature being too high). It shouldn't matter what game since I should not get these FPS problems with a laptop like this but the game I play is a MMORPG called Rift.
After playing Rift for about 1 hour and a half mainly in pvp battlegrounds (15 players per team in the battleground so a total of 30 players), my core temp for my cpu reach the high 80 degrees and I’ve received 4-5 massive fps drops while playing during this time. I was able to screenshot my FPS during the FPS drops and I obtained a few screenshots while playing in game. See screenshots below.
NOTE1: CPU core Temperature is shown in the upper right of the screenshots, the running processes from the task manager is also shown in most of these screenshots.
NOTE2: I play with the native resolution of my laptop 1920 x 1080. I normally play windowed full screen but I include the CPU core temperatures & Task Manager so it wasn't window full screen. Also, I did not have the Turbo and the Nvidia Overclock Tool activated but I've tried both in the past and have not noticed a noticeable difference in my FPS drops while using them. (I  also get FPS drops while using the Turbo and Nvidia Overclock Tool).
NOTE3: I play the game with medium settings to try to alleviate this FPS problem but I've had FPS problems still happens even in low settings.
After restarting my computer my idle temperature on all my 4 cores according to core temperature sits around 45 degrees (fluctuation + / - 2 to 3 degrees) with practically no processes running (close to 100k memory in the task manager processes).
When loading up Rift and being IDLE in town my cpu temperature fluctuates between 50 and 61 degrees. CPU usage in task manager fluctuates between 10-16%.
My Normal FPS in a combat environment playing Rift (fluctuates a little obviously but it's usually in the 25 FPS range), FPS can be seen on the bottom right of the Rift client (performance area)
FPS drop result after CPU temp overheating, FPS can be seen on the bottom right of the Rift client (performance area). The CPU temperature was in the high 80's before this FPS drop.
CPU temperatures while idling in town after a battleground (I also get FPS drops in town and dungeons as well but usually not as frequent as I do in a battleground or in Raids)
CPU temperatures while killing a boss in a raid, there were probably about 100 players in the environment, I had a huge FPS drop just after taking this screenshot
I also took a Screenshot of my core temp about an hour after I stopped playing, My CPU temperature was constantly fluctuating between the low 60's to high 70's when my computer only had a few processes running.
I've looked around for a solution for this problem but I can't seem to find one. I haven't physically opened my laptop to check if there's an issue inside but I've only started having this FPS problem since about 2 months. I had no FPS problems until recently.
Not sure if it matters or not but my NVIDA driver version is 296.10. I've tried reverting to the previous driver to see if this latest driver update was the problem but it didn't change anything. Other things I've tried is changing some settings in the NVIDIA control pannel but this has not worked either. I've even tried playing my game on the lowest settings and still had intermittent FPS drops. I've browsed through the forums and some people have suggested flashing the BIOS but I'm a bit skeptical to do that. I also attempted to call MSI customer support and left a message but they have not returned my call yet. Anyone got any suggestions to fix this problem?

The simple solution is to open the bottom and blow out the air through the center of the fan with canned air.  The vents arent plugged but the fan itself probably looks like a fuzzy mop.  Shoudl fix your problem and will not void your warranty.
The ideal solution is to pop the heatsyncs of the CPU and GPU, replace whatever crap their using with artic silver and appreciate a refined machine.  Not only will you not have overheats but your machine will use its fan less and thus be quieter.  This WILL void your warranty... but its worth it.  Just dont do it unless you are savy.
Other then that.  Lifting the laptop off the ground is ESSENTIAL.  Look at the bottom.  It has vents.  Ask yourself.. "Self.. what could these vents possibly be for?"  Self will hopefully reply "Well Self, I would say they are there for cooling."  "SO self these vents have a purpose???"  "Yes, self, they do.  Their purpose is cooling and airflow"  "Well then why do we not have airspace allowing air to actually get into these vents?" "Because self.. we like it flat....  Like a tire thats soon to be on fire..." Hopefully after that your enlightened self will go get a stand.  If you want the lowest profile you can get you need a thin cooler system, if you dont care about that just buy a stand that permits airspace and flow.  I mean your running an advanced gaming rig.  In a normal box these components may have 4+ fans... Your laptop has one.  Help it out.
The good news is perhaps cooking your cpu will have a burn in effect and make it clock to higher speeds... However I doubt it.  Chances are you are cooking everything from said chip to your HDs and you should stop, because that MIGHT void your warranty.

  • MSI GE70 2OE Fps Drops

Hi guys ! I have a big problem. I am using Windows 8.1 with update 1. Drivers are all up-to-date. BIOS and Firmware are all up-to-date. Everything seems fine but isn't. While I am playing Battlefield 3 (Original) fps is suddenly dropping to 20-30 from 60.(No explosion no action) I thought that's heat problem and I sent it to the MSI service for maintenance. But that didn't help. I reinstalled W8.1, neither did this. Not only in Battlefield 3. In Battlefield 4, DirT 3, Crysis 3 :( What can I do ? Please help.

I would use HWInfo to monitor the CPU core's to see if the speed of the CPU is dropping drastically during the low FPS times.
If that isn't it, then you might need to look into DPC's to see if it's a latency issue (which wouldn't be the first time this is a problem).

  • Qosmio X70 A 12 sudden fps drops

Basically the title. Out of nowhere my Qosmio is underperforming by a lot. Used to have 100-120fps on LoL, and stable performance on Borderlands 2/Max payne 3 for example yet now I cant even play LoL on 30fps. I updated my GPU drivers, nothing changed. Any ideas?

Sounds like it could likely be the switchable graphics but that's weird it's out of knowhere - check your Nvidea settings and make sure your main GPU is set to be used for games and not the on board one, it's happened to me before.
Just click the Nvidea tray icon to access this. If you changed your drivers you could have reset the settings in the process.
I prefer to just set the *global* settings to ''high performance Nvidea processor''
Also, check your computer power options (right click the battery icon in tray) and make sure it's set to high performance. Your computer could potentially have reverted to a lower power state and it will switch to on board graphics if this is the case.
If you haven't already checked these things let me know how it goes!

i saw your post and i'm going to try it as soon as i can ( probably tomorow night ) but i got a question, i got FPS Drop on CSGo ok, thats a problem many guys have with msi's GTX 860 M GPU ok meh, i also got something on League of Legend, i got a heavy lag spike ( about 300 ms ) during 3 / 4 seconds, then its coming back to 40 ms.  Should i also try out, by reducing my GPU's temperature ( as you did in your post ) and try to see if it may do something for my League of legend lag spike aswell ? or might this come from an other problem on my laptop ?. i already tried to get Killer Lan network last update and it didnt change anything. I checked all of my drivers update about internets ( wifi card etc... ), all is updated. By the way, my lag spikes frequency goes as my FPS Drops on CSGo, about every 1 / 2 minuts, i just wonder, if it comes from my GPU, why on CSGo i got fps drop because gpu is hot meanwhile on League i got lag spikes to manifest my gpu's overheating ?  Strange thing.
To be honest the heavily thing i'm mad of is that i played before on a Toshiba, with a simply cuda nvidia GPU, intel core i5, i had 30 fps on league of legend but never had any lag spikes. I also had 40 / 50 fps on CSGo but never had any problems like fps drop. I wonder why the hell are these MSI called " Gaming laptop ", if with a simple working notebook that may be only viable " for working on microsoft word " i got less problems ( A simple toshiba notebook by the way that cost 1/3 of this MSI's price . )
By the way panni i'm going to try your idea out tomorow and i'll tell you the result as soon as possible for CSGo.
Anyway if you got an other idea to help me for my lag spikes on league of legend i would be happy to hear you you'r free to PM me or we could even talk ( skype / teamspeak ) if you got something for me.

  • MSI GE70 FPS Drops + Lag Spikes

Hey there everybody and msi's readers.
    My problem is :
    I bought my MSI GE70 one month ago ( i7 4700 HQ, GTX 860M )
I'm a League of legend player, and a CSGO player. I bought this laptop either for playing games and working ( using autocad and other construction stuff )
By the way, Since i get it, when i'm playing CSGO every minute or about, i got my laptop heavily lagging but my ping still at 30. I suppose, FPS Drop ( i already read a subject about it on this forum, i tried to put the thing @ 99% instead of 100% and trying to see if there was nothing running on the background that may give me these fps drops, by the way it didnt change anything )
The second point thats not on CSGO, on League of legend, every minute too or about, i dont got any fps drop but a heavy lag spike during 2/3 seconds, then the ping comes back to normal.
I'm a bit worried about it, there probably might me something to do on my laptop to fix these but i'm not an expert on it so please if anyone got any solutions can you help me ?
By the way, on the post that i read about someone having the same problem on CSGO, he was using a program that gave him his FPS, his GPU's heat and others stuff, may i have the program name please so i can give you more information on what happen when FPS Drop arrives on CSGO.
Thanks everyone who provides me help
And sorry for my english, i tried make it as clearly as i could by the way i'm not english  .
If anyone that can help me about this dont understand what i mean in some points please ask me i will be pleased to answer for any helps haha

  • Sudden jitter and fps drops in all 3D games

Hello! So I'm running Windows 7 on a MacBook Pro (13 inch, mid-2012 model) with Intel HD 4000 graphics.
Lately, I been experiencing sudden jittering in my games, particularly 3D-games-strangely, games like Bastion run just fine. The fps keeps going up and then quickly back down, ranging from 20 to all the way down to 12 or so. This is peculiar, because not long ago I was able to run games like Aion in medium to high settings, The Sims 3 in high settings, and Skyrim in low settings no problem, with no jitteriness whatsoever. The games seem to run smooth for about one minute before the fps drop occurs, with all affected games following the same pattern of fps drops-it goes from normal speed to a fast jitter, then normal speed again and repeats the cycle. It does not return to its normal fps, just keeps jumping back and forth. I have noticed that when this happens, the laptop heats up considerably and the fans spin a lot faster-this did not happen before with any of my games, so I do wonder if the best and only solution is to open up the macbook and see if the problem is internal or if there is anything else I can do. I've tried resetting the SMC to no avail-nothing seems to work. I've even re-installed Windows 7 and all of my games-nothing is working. At first I thought the problem was only exclusive to Skyrim until I opened up Aion (which I played a few days ago with no issues) and was greeted with the same drastic jumps of fps. If anyone can help me out with this and maybe offer a few suggestions, I'd love to hear them, because I'm stumped.

Spoke too soon-the problem is back again. It played nicely for about half an hour this time before it started lagging once more, both in Skyrim and Aion. Bastion is still fine, however.

  • MSI GT60 2PC Dominator (w/ GTX 870M) - FPS Drop/Fan Problem

    Hello all,
as the title explains, I am having a frustrating problem with FPS drops in demanding games only (until now in The Witcher 2/Bioshock Infinite) which I imagine is related to the fan speed. My notebook was bought on the end of September 2014, and this problem has always happened (I haven't played many demanding games during this year so that's why I am only really worried about it now).
I recorded a few in-game videos (during a The Witcher 2 session) so you can see with your own eyes how these drops happen.
Also, in the second clip, you can see how my fan speed oscillates all the time during heavy gaming (also during "The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition", in High Specs with minor tweaks). I would really appreciate if someone could tell me if this is normal or not, because it has been bugging me for a while! I haven't synchronized the clip of my fan oscillating with the actual gameplay during the time, but I can guarantee that in general these FPS Drops happen the most when the fan speed is oscillating the most.
If any more information is necessary, please ask me so I can provide them promptly!
I hope someone can help me!

    Thank you for you consideration!

hey, maybe you can use the tool to export your system config so we can try to give advice. However, fan speed raising is the effect of the heat not the cause of the fps issue.

  • MSI GX630 Unstable FPS (frames per second )

I just got a msi gx630 the other day hoping with its decent VGA (Geforce 9600GT) run CS1.6 smoothly. What happened instead was that it ran CS like it did not even have a dedicated graphics card. The fps dropped before I even started a new game. When I get into the game , smokes and flashes do not drop my fps . But when I press TAB to see the frags , it drops exactly 10 fps. And big maps ussually drops my fps too. Its very unstable also. Even a laptop with an intergrated graphics card runs smoother than that .I tried 179xx and 176 drivers , no difference .Yes I turned vsync off and all other crap to performance . I tried using Turbo boost too but the result was the same. Please help me out ?

So today i decided to open my Msi ( i know im dumb  :D ) . I found 2 cables not connected to anything . Specifically 1 silver cable and one black cable with a number 3 on it . Do you guys have any idea ?
Not all cables need to be connected. They may have put some cables in there in case you wanted to add something later down the road, etc.

  • GE70 2OE, FPS DROPS

    hey,
i bought the GE70 2OE gaming series notebook last week. but i noticed when i play CSGOi get fps drops from 170 fps to 20-30 fps for about 10 - 50 secs. This keeps on repeating during the gameplay and in dont think it's normal.
when i run MSI Kombustor i get 45 fps with 99% GPU Load, and without graphics ring i get 91 FPS with 17% GPU Load.
and if i look on msi afterburner when playing csgo i see that i have 70% GPU load = 170 FPS, and then it drops to 20 fps and i get 25% GPU Load.
i reinstalled csgo this didn't help, then i did a fresh W8 install but didn't help at all either. then i run MSI live update, it says there is a intel svga driver update, and when i install this i only get 15 fps on MSI Kombustor and 80fps on csgo. so i deleted this update because it got worse. i checked nvidia updates, but non available.
i hope somebody know's a fix, or knows what the problem is. to play games like this is not very fun.

Well, I'll be perfectly honest here, your CPU is running at nearly the max allowed temperature, which is most likely why it is throttling.
Notice how it's running at 80C or more on all the cores? That is not very good.....
Now, I'm not sure how adept you are with computers and/or electronics.
What I would suggest, if you are adept, is to replace/re-apply the thermal compound on the heatsink(s) for the CPU and maybe the GPU as well.
If you are NOT adept at it, then I would suggest RMA'ing the laptop.  >>How to contact MSI.<<
when i start the game, and core temp are like 60°C, the CPU is already throttling. not only at 83°C.
and is not always at 83°C, when playing it goes from 71 - 83°C, and when not playing, it goes from 54-61°C
and about the heatsinks, it's a brand new notebook. so i got it delivered broken or what? and what about my 2year warranty!
what u mean with RMA'ing the laptop? xD
i just ran the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool, and the test passed. temp and everything was normal.
test results ( i can give the TestResults.txt file for full test results):
    --- Load Level = 8
    CPU Load Passed!!!
     --- Temperature Test ---
    Temperature Test Passed!!!
    Temperature = 9 degrees C below maximum.

  • GTX 670 fps drops problem

    Hi,
I have problem with my new graphic card and don't know if it is driver issue or if it is defective graphic card or some other component is bottleneck ? Can you please help me?
    My PC
CPU: AMD Phenom II 1090T 3,2 GHz (is bottleneck?)
MB: ASUS M4N68T updated BIOS few days
GPU: MSI N670GTX-PM2D2GD5/OC installed 301.42 WHQL drivers and also tried older drivers from CD
PSU: Corsair TX650-V2 (is it enough? )
    Case: Coolermaster CM690 Dominator II
    RAM: Kingston DDR3 HyperX 1600MHz 2x2GB +2x4GB
Monitor: LG W2242SM connected by VGA adapter (playing on 1680x1050)
    My problem is:
In games like battlefield 2, Crysis 2, ArmaII, Alice Madness Returns, Dragon age, Skyrim my fps drops very often.
For example in Battlefield 3 (Gulf of Oman) I start game with 80fps (setting: ULTRA 1680x1050) and after 2 minutes fps drop to about 30-20 or even 17 fps. I first thought it was only big scene with many details but when i stayed in same place about 1 minute it returned to 75fps but scene was still same.
    I tried:
    - Change details to High - even worse , Medium and Low - still remain,
    - Turn off- blur, v-sync - problem still remains
    - turn off anti aliasing - Problem remains
    - in nvidia control panel turn v-sync off and power management set to maximum performence, in windows too
    - re install drivers - clean installation ( i try all drivers available from MSI site and Nvidia too
    - Re install windows (windows 7 professional 64-bit)
    - uninstall MSI afterburner, than install newer one.
I took screenshot from MSI afterburner where you can see huge GPU usage drop in game.
    Thank you for any help

Hi there, Just wondering if anyone had a solution for this? I am having the exact same problem.

  • Gt683 fps drops help.

i fell victim with one of the authorized msi merchant here in the philippines and was sold a supposedly gaming laptop which was misrepresented as their latest and one of the top of the line gaming series of this year (2013) in their shop and even paid $1100plus for the unit model  gt638 with specs  of 8gb ddr3 memory, corei7, nvidia geforce, gtx560m, 750gb hdd, windows 8 64bit os. just bought it 2 months ago
It was falsely sold to me as a new model only to find out that this unit was already outdated and very old (2011). It was already late when i found out and the sad part was that it has an unusual fps drop which happens to almost every game like batman, tomb raider and battlefield 4 among others.
The fps drops from 20 up to 10 below normally after only less than 30 mins of gameplay and it will occur every 10seconds thereafter. we did everything we could with the software configurations and other configurations. the msi technician here in the philippines revealed to me that my model was too old and will not play any high end games unless i change or upgrade my nvidia videocard to a 6 series. I want to know, if this msi tech told me was true or does my unit has a factory defect. because in my game experience even if i play a battlefield 3 game in the lowest setting, my fps still drops unusually causing it to lag and freeze. please advise.
i was asking for a refund but the msi shop here only gives 7 days warranty, they have a no return no exchange policy plus they claim that my unit was not defective ... it was just OLD and outdated. its ironic because i just bought an OLD brand new gaming laptop that doesn't play games as expected. is there a solution for gt638 or is this just another expensive paperweight. thanks

my advice, go sell it to someone, and use the money to buy a better laptop
and for further reference, research before you buy

  • Why does my mid-2010 Macbook Pro suffer from huge FPS drops whenever I try to play games?

    Macbook info: 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7, 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3, nVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512MB
When I play games on my Macbook Pro, such as League of Legends, Diablo III, World of Warcraft, etc., they operate well with latency of ~80ms usually and fps starting off between 30-60, but after only a couple seconds or minutes my fps drops to 5-15 and the games become unplayable and I must force quit the program. Restarting the computer helps temporarily but then it relapses.
I cleaned out all my downloads, applications, and other deletable files that I could find. I installed and updated Mavericks OS X and the issue persists. Before I installed Mavericks I noticed in Activity Monitor that almost all of my memory was in use while playing a game. After Mavericks the memory is almost all permanently in use, but from what I've read this is what is supposed to happen and instead of looking at memory in use you look at memory pressure, which looks normal.
I was going to upgrade from 4GB RAM (current) to 8GB RAM and see if that helps but idk if that has anything to do with my fps issue or not. Any thoughts?

Alright well I'm definitely not running virus scans or doing system backups and then complaining about slow performance.... The only other application running besides whatever game i'm playing is SMC fancontrol to make sure my computer isn't overheating.
In terms of CPU%, games like WoW and LoL take ~50-60% of CPU while active, but activity monitor still reports ~80% idle. For disk activity, i'm not sure whether it uses optical or not, I assume i just uses the hard drive, which is brand new cus it broke down about a month ago and I had to replace it (the fans are brand new as well, so I don't think it could be build up of dust or anything inside because it was opened and cleaned so recently).
I can set all graphics setting to lowest possible and improve my fps to 20, which is still awful, and enabling vertical sync just sends it back down to 15 fps. I don't see why I should have to use lowest graphics settings anyway. It can't be out of date drivers since i have 10.9.1 running. Could the graphics card be the issue? That would suck since I can replace and upgrade RAM but not the graphics card.
I have repaired disk and disk permissions multiple times, virus scans, the whole gambit and nothing seems to help.

  • EtreCheck because of FPS Drops - how to interpretate?

I already read several posts about FPS Drops on MBPs, but no entry helped to me (esp because my EtreCheck seems a bit different to the others)
I am really sorry if this is a "double post", but i already gave up trying it for myself. Next to that im not such an experienced mac user and pretty unsure about editing/replacing/deleting system files.
Here's my EtreCheck entry, i really hope someone can help me with that and if you can see if there's a problem on my mac causing FPS Drops (it started about 3 days ago)
    Thank You!

  • 970 4G FPS drop for second screen when playing full screen video

    Hi,
I have two 1440p monitors connected to my graphcis card using DVI connectors.
Whenever I play a full screen video on the secondary screen, I was always get an FPS drop. It doesn't matter if I switch the cables around to make the other one the secondary screen.
I have tried replacing the monitors and the same thing happens and I can only conclude it must be the graphics card.
Does anyone know how I can troubleshoot this problem?

    1) I'm not familiar with this concept. Why would switching port type provide more bandwidth?
    2) Also, the card I'm referencing only has 1 display port connection. Would using one dvi and one display port cable work?
    1) Google for "dvi", "hdmi" & "displayport" and you'll find out why.
    2) use DisplayPort + dual-link DVI (always suggested by Nvidia)
