MSI G41M-P23 FSB/core clock issue (HELP!)

Alright, so a few days ago I bought an MSI G41M-P23 with 8 gb of DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) RAM (the standard for this board). My CPU is an E8400 (3.0 ghz). At first I wanted to maybe fiddle with some overclocking, which is where I realized that this mobo fails at. Not a big deal...but every time I attempted to up the FSB above 336 or so (this CPU's default is 333... x 9 = 3000 mhz), the system would not POST, instead it simply would loop on/off until eventually going back to defaults.
That was fine with me -- I don't need to overclock, really. However, I noticed something odd in the BIOS. The CPU speed, which according to the fsb multiplier was the correct speed (2997 mhz), was very not correct in the CPU info section of the BIOS. There, it listed the speed at 1.8 ghz. Thus I decided, for the heck of it, to take at look at CPU-Z at this time.
This is what CPU-Z is currently telling me (I have a screenshot, but I can't seem to post it here):
In the "Clocks" section (bottom left of the main tab in CPU-Z)
Core speed: ~1894 mhz
Multiplier: x 9.0
Bus Speed: ~210 mhz
Rated FSB: ~842 mhz
The RAM speeds and ratios are correct, though, given the FSB:RAM ratio (it would seem). Ram clocks in at ~333 mhz, which with a 5:8 ratio should put it at 1066...I think.
So now CPU-Z and part(?) of the BIOS is showing me the wrong CPU speed (1800 mhz). It's also listing my FSB at 200 mhz despite the fact that my I set it in my BIOS at 333 mhz. The 200 Mhz adds up with the incorrect core speed, as 200 X 9 = 1800. If I go back to the BIOS, it lists the FSB correctly, and the POST screen displays the correct FSB and multiplier, but again, the CPU info screen of the bios is reading 1800 mhz, while listing the FSB as 333. I don't have any speedstep/CE1/other modifiers turned on, and this reading is currently under normal load (read: not idle). I'm at my wit's end here.
Is this board not saving my FSB speeds in the BIOS? Is there any way to fix this issue? I apparently have the most up-to-date BIOS according to CPU-Z and MSI's support website. I have not tried every setting of the OC switch yet, though I have tried a few (200 -> 333, for example) and all have resulted in a system that will not POST, and leaves me having to reset the CMOS jumper in order to get it to boot again (as opposed to the looping/defaulting cycle mentioned earlier).
Can someone PLEASE help me? I just reinstalled Windows 7 x64/all my programs because of this new board...and I really, really don't want to do that all again.

Well, I heard back from MSI. They are just as confused over the BIOS version as I am, apparently.  V30.8 is not what is supposed to be on the board. So, rather than flash it and hope that it works, etc., I decided to simply return the board, as I've only had it for a few days, and bared used it. Something is clearly wrong with it to have an "unknown" BIOS installed.
I went ahead and ordered a new CPU and mobo entirely...Core i5, too. No MSI board this time...only because they didn't have a board in my price range. I wanted this upgrade to be something easy and simple so I wouldn't have to do that.. oh well.
I do find it very strange what's happened with this board, though....I've never before heard of ordering and receiving a board with an unknown BIOS on it...even according to the manufacturer. Maybe an out-of-date BIOS, but not something completely off the radar. Still, thank you again for your help.

  • MSI G41M-P23 (MS 7592) BIOS ISSUES

    Hello to all!
As the thread tittle says I'm having some weird issues with an MSI G41M-P23 mother board and I'm hopping I might find some answers to my specific problem.
It was bought nearly 2 years ago and it kept me happy ever since, however about two weeks ago it started to show unusual behavior (FYI: There was no meddling with the system at all. Out of the blue it just started to act up).
As said, two weeks ago I started the PC. It became clear that something was not right just from the start, since the usual BIOS Beep never came up nor did the system Boot Up. I proceeded to Reset the system, however the it didn't start. It just hanged, showing the HDD LED on Full Load, no video signal.
Since the system appeared to be completely locked I then proceeded to completely power it down, followed by a start. The procedure appeared to have some sort of effect, since the BIOS started and showed a message in red, something about "overclock failed". Since there was no intrusion in the BIOS settings (which was protected by a password, which I had forgot  ), nor inside the case, the error came as a shock. Two days latter I reset the BIOS by removing the battery for 20 seconds or so (since there was no way I could remember the BIOS password), just as a precaution.
For nearly two weeks it performed flawlessly. Then today happened. FYI: The system was completely powered down for three days.
It started just fine, ran for 4-5 minutes and then froze. I reset and after 20 minutes it crashed with no error, just hanging, HDD LED on Full Load, no video signal. Then, 20 minutes later it crashed again, no error, hanging, HDD LED on Full Load, no video signal.
I have never seen a system crash with no error, or without automatic restart, which leads me to believe that the problem is related to BIOS or is hardware related. I have not checked yet, but I believe I still have several months of warranty on the board and miscellaneous parts.
Can anybody tell me what the problem is? And if it is hardware related, clearly define it so I can present my case to the vendor?
Thank you very much and have a nice day!
    Gabriel.

     Google:  RAIDMAX KY-600ATX
You will see many instances from many people saying the same thing, it's a piece of junk.
     3 examples:
"Raidmax is about the bottom of the barrel as far as power supply's are concerned."
"Not sure if that's the problem, but Raidmax are NOT good PSU's to begin with."
     "(KY-600ATX) Raidmax died."
And many more. No need for us to say anymore about that to tell the truth. Sure you could have other problems not related to PSU but without a decent PSU it's not worth the trouble at this point to try and figure it out. PSU is the heart of the beast and with a bad heart other problems are just too difficult to figure out.

  • Core Clock Issue of MSI R7-260x 2GD5 OC

I just bought an MSI R7-260x 2GD5 OC.
In the official website, the core clock and memeory frequency are 1175 Mhz and 6500 Mhz respectively.
However, the figures shown in Afterburner are 1050 Mhz and 6000 Mhz (4*1500 Mhz).
Is it a defective product? Or it means I can always overclock the card to 1175 Mhz and 6500 Mhz ?
The driver is the latest version downloaded from AMD official site.
The version of AfterBurner is 2.3.1.

Looks like a R7-260X but clockrates justr match the non-oc R7-260X 1GD5. In some local markets there might also be a non-oc 2GB version. Add a pic of the box and retry with latest Afterburner version: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=161235.msg1277518#msg1277518

    Hello every body
I just bought a gamer PC from an computer supplier.
    Is has the following spec.
    AMD FX 4170 / 4.2 GHz Processor - AM3+
    MSI 760GM-P23 (FX) - Micro-ATX 3000 AM3+
    8GB DDR3 1600MHz Kingston HyperX (1X8GB)

I had Windows 7 and all drivers installed and unit was working fine. I then decided to use the MSI Live Updater to update all drivers etc.
In this process the bios was updated to v.17.13 and before the update the unit was running v.H.A
After bios update had finished updating in Windows, i rebooted the system and then i have not been able to boot to Windows or Windows install 7 since.
I have uploaded 2 videos to youtube so that you all can see what the issue is
Search youtube for these two videos.
    UEBlBJrJXNo
    gvlNZl9Im6s
I have tried to downgrade the bios, and i dont get any error when trying to do so, but after rebooting the system again, i see that the bios has NOT been downgraded.
Can somebody tell me what might be the issue?
I personally think it is the BIOS chip it self, that was up by the update and now is somehow looked and faulty.
    HELP!!

Sounds like Live Update just claimed another casualty. Unless another forum user can come up with some more suggestions, it is most likely RMA time or a pc shop in your area that has an SPI flash programming device should be able to restore the BIOS chip for you.
Next time, for BIOS updates, please use the fourm's USB flash method.

  • MSI GTX 275 Lightning Core Clock problems

    Gooday
I've had my MSI GTX 275 lightning Edition card now for about 1.5 years, when i play games the core clock runs at its full speed of 702 Mhz, then when im in Windows, its drops to 301 Mhz (understandable, 2 different modes 3d/2d, i think), but now when i play games and dont alt-tab or anything it runs @ 702, but the minute i alt-tab just to check something on the net i start getting problems, when i switch back to the game it switches smoothly and perfect, but 30 minutes sown the line the whole display freezes,(but the game sounds continue) then if alt-tab or ctrl-alt-del its runs it fine but from then on the card FORCES the core clock down to 400Mhz and i have to restart the pc to get to to normal. and it does that even more often if msiafterburner is running (but also when i uninstalled it)
Why would it do that?, the core doesnt get hot, i leave the fan on 100%(core temp=45-60'C)
    Extra info :
    Drivers=270.61 (same on 266, and 258)
same happens if i oc to 740
    psu is 600W Vantec (2x 22 amp 12V rail)
    Core i7 920 (no oc)
    7 GB Ram
    Windows 7 x64 SP1 ultimate

Sorry i forgot to add that to the first post, yep, re-installed windows, with/out SP1 with th different driver versions and also with/out or different gpu programs ie afterburner evga precision, riva tuner. The problem wasnt noticeable for about a year then lately it got worse and worse. I thought it was afterburner and the settings but without afterburner the game would only freeze much later on (few more hours) i saw (sorry cant say were exactly) that other users also had similar problems, where the game would get very choppy and windows would say "display driver stopped responding...) mine doesnt tell me that, the game would freeze and/or get a black screen and then few seconds later it would return but most of the time with the Forced down (400mhz) clock but windows didnt pick up display probs

  • MSI GTX 980 Gaming 4G clock issue

    Hi everyone,
I just installed this card into my system, installed the latest nvidia drivers (344.16) and ran GPU-Z (latest test build). This is what I got:
Is 1190 mhz core clock normal? I thought it was meant to be 1216 mhz as advertised when I bought it?
Apart from that performance seems about right, though I am not sure. I ran 3DMark Firestrike and got 11630. My system specs are as follows:
    i7 2700K @ 4.6 ghz
    8GB RAM
    Windows 7 64bit SP1
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Use MSI Gaming App (on CD with card) to change profiles. That should change clocks too.

  • BsoD on MSI 760Gm P23 Fx(clock interrupt was not received on a secondary proces)

If i try to run some higher end games like battlefield 2 i'll just get this BsoD saying:
"A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval"
    Here's my system:
    MSI 760GM P23 FX
    Amd FX 6100 6 core processor 3.3
    16 gigs of ram
    Radeon HD 7750
    BIOS: 7641vH2
I've elsewhere of other systems with this problem fixing it with a bios update, but as far as i'm aware i have the current recommended bios for my MB/CPU combo. also my bios should be  at their default settings since they were installed. i don't recall tweaking them at all

that interrupt is a CPU clock instability I'm guessing that your CPU is auto boosting its clocks! you will need to access BIOS and turn off the Turbo Boost!
then give it a retest and see if it keeps doing the A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval thing as your board has a max TDP of 95W and under basic frequancy its right at that level and the turbo may be over stressing the power delivery (under turbo that CPU will pull over 100W or more)!

  • MSI R4870-MD1G Core Clock 600Mhz / 750 Mhz ??

    Hi,
I have a couple of questions I hope you can help me about the MSI R4870-MD1G.
I purchased this card last march, and its been handling all the latest games with ease, and under normal conditions the Core temp runs pretty cool (around 49ºC/53ºC Idle) with average 40/50% duty cycle.
But, the memory temperature is quite high, inbetween 70ºC/ 72ºC idle all the way up to 79ºC/82ºC load.... and since we´ve hit the summer here in sunny Portugal, both core and memory are now a couple degrees higher, even got to 89ºC once a couple days ago. So last night I opened up Rivatuner 2.24 and created a faster fan speed profile to cool down the card.
While I was in Rivatuner, I noticed in Rivatuner Hardware Monitoring, that in idle (windows desktop) the Core Clock is oscillating between 600Mhz and 750Mhz every second. 1 second its 600Mhz, the next its 750Mhz (Memory Clock just stays the same at 900Mhz) ... while in load it stays at 750Mhz.
Is this behavior normal? A power saving mode or something?? If it isnt normal, how can I set it to stay at 750Mhz ?
Also, about the memory temperature... isn´t 70ºC idle and 82ºC load a bit high??
They dont have heatsinks, and I dont know, what is the max temperature these memory chips can handle??
Speeding up the fan to 100% duty doesn´t cool it more then just a couple degrees, I think the max I could cool it to was 68ºC.
    Thanks for your assistance,

Yes its normal VGA changes clocks depend of needs.

  • Gpu core clock low msi e350ia-e45

I'm been running into a problem while bitcoin mining.
I noticed that when I moved my MSI e350ia-e45 setup into my computer room that the Mhash/s starts off at 11.2 then drops to 4.3 after a couple of minutes.
The previous room was about 66F ambient temps, the new room is about 75F.
I downloaded msi afterburner and noticed that when my Mhash/s drops, my gpu core clock speed drops to 200mhz from 492mhz.
This happens when the gpu hits 60c-61c.
I was running catalyst 11.6 and then tried 11.7 with the same problem still.
I've upgraded the bios to the latest 1.5 and still no fix.
I've tried disabling cool n quiet in the bios.
    I upgraded my case cooling.
I added thermal paste(which is why it changes in minutes rather than seconds now).
    Still no luck.
This is a little bit of a let down as I also own a C-50 based netbook that does not exhibit this behavior.  It will happily run at the 278mhz gpu core clockspeed past 80c.
The e350 is rated up to 90c so why would it underclock the gpu at 61c?
My friend has an asus e350 board and in my room it doesn't underclock the gpu.  His runs at a steady 78c in here.
I can only think that it is a bios issue.
    Any idea's?

I moved it back to the other room with the lower temps and the issues vanished.  Too bad it can't stay in that room(the ethernet connection to that room travels through the outside and is prone to killing switches/routers/ethernet cards during lightning storms.
I guess it's not much of an issue,  but the whole reason for buying an e350 was the higher gpu clock rate compared to the c-50.  It's kind of pointless if the gpu drops down to 200mhz when slightly heated.  It makes my c-50 netbook much faster than the msi e350 motherboard.
I love the  motherboard, and all it's features,  except for the clock problem.
I'm still hoping it's a software issue and not a bios issue.
I'll try installing an even earlier version of catalyst.
I will be installing linux to see if the problems persist.

  • MSI G41M-P33 Combo Motherboard & DDR3 Memory Issue

Hello, so yesterday (Monday, September 30, 2013) I bought the MSI G41M-P33 Combo Motherboard and 2x4GB DDR3 1333 memory. This motherboard supports DDR2 & DDR3 memory (2 slots each; 4 total). The motherboard supports 1333 MHz and up to 8GB of memory.
So I put the computer together, and tried to load up. I get 3 beeps (I looked it up, and this means bad memory). So I took out those two DDR3 sticks and replaced it with one 1GB DDR2 memory that was in the old motherboard. That loaded up! I tried sticking in the second 1GB DDR2 from the old motherboard, and that worked aswell! There was 2048MB of memory running on there.
So I think that the memory I bought is bad/broken. I went back to the store and got a different set of 2x4GB DDR3 memory. I tired this memory combo excluding the DDR2 memory, and it did the same exact thing. It beeped 3 times ---> hence concluding that the motherboard doesn't want to work with DDR3. I went on MSI's website to update the BIOS. I downloaded "7592vWB.zip" (released about 2 months ago) from "msi.com/product/mb/G41M-P33-Combo.html#/?div=BIOS"  and I extracted it to a USB (using a different computer). I went back to the DDR2 stick on the problem computer so it can load and I can go back into the BIOS. Did the update, it completed successfully.
Yet, I still get the same issue of the 3 beeps with the DDR3 memory. I do not want to return these memory sticks, since I prefer 8GB DDR3 memory, and if I replace them with another set of DDR3 memory, I'm sure it will still do the same thing.
Helping me with this is much appreciated. Thanks for reading.

I have exactly same issue. MB works fine with DDR2 2x2GB. I wanted to bump up the memory and bought ADATA 4GB DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 stick.
All has been said before. Chances with current DDR3 1600 are slim to zero.
Quote from: flobelix on 03-October-13, 00:34:42
Combo boards are picky with ram especially DDR3 which has been far from being standard at the time the board has been released.
DIMM of 1.5 Volt  DDR3 800/1066/1333*(OC) means the board supports DDR3 800 and 1066 1.5v sticks by default and according to it's controllers specs BUT DDR3 1333 is considered overclocking (* oc) and as usual with overclocking it might work or might not work depending on the individual sample. As these sticks are current sticks and your board is quite old compatibility might not be ideal. Eventually it would work with increased voltage or relaxed timings but as your board won't work with the DDR3 sticks at all you can't change settings.
An idea would be clearing cmos before retrying with just one stick as you changed from DDR2 to DDR3 and old settings could be a problem too (>>Clear CMOS Guide<<).

  • MSI GTX 660 TF 2GD5/OC (SLI) Running at 50% Core clock

    Hello there,
In my home setup, I have two MSI GTX 660 TF 2GD5/OC cards installed in my Mainboard (ASRock 970 Extreme4) in an SLI configuration (together with a bridge, of course). I would say that everything is running fine.
Though, with 3D mark, my core clock seems to be clocking in at 549 Mhz
    http://www.3dmark.com/fs/738108
While in the official specifications, 1098 seems the normal rate (hm, that is exactly 50% slower).
    http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N660-TF-2GD5-OC.html#/?div=Specification
I am using the latest (BETA) Nvidia Driver 326.41 driver.
I have the feeling something is off, and my 3Dmark is actually a lot lower then it should be, since installing the 2nd card, my performance with Rise of the Triad 2013 and Super Street Fighter AE seems to have dropped (I can barely play in 3D anymore, while I had no problem doing so with a single card, and according to the Nvidia site, SSFIVAE supports 3D and SLI).
Can you guys give me some pointers what might be the problem? Thanks in advance!

I recently bought an msi g41m-p33 combo MB. My cpu is an intel Q6600 G0 running at 2.4ghz.
I tested the MB with an old ddr2 kingston 2gb stick and it worked without problems.
I want to uprgrade to ddr3.  The ram test report from msi doesn't have any ddr3 1333mhz sticks
and for 1333mhz i have to OC my MB but  i don't think is the best choice.
From DDR2-800 to DDR3-1066 is not quite an upgrade.
    Because DDR3-1066 (CAS = 7) is not faster than DDR2-800 (CAS = 5).
But if you want an "upgrade" from 4GB to 8GB, that's something else.
Anyway, the "Combo" motherboards are problematic and Bernhard already gave you some good hints.
To have a chance running 8GB DDR3 on this motherboard, you need 4GB DDR3-1066 modules with 256Mx8 chips (16 chips per module).

    Hi,
When doing some stress testing with furmark, I noticed the GPU Core Clock would bounce around between 600mhz-940mhz under 99% GPU Load.  Is this normal??  I figured it would hold steady at 940mhz under load, not really sure why it's bouncing around.

Figured it out.. had to change the Power Control settings in CCC to +20%... maintains 940MHZ now

  • Clock issues R7950 TF 3GD5OC BE

    Hi there
Since updating to the last Gfx driver ( 9.14.10.01061) I experience some weird issue.
    My setup:
CPU- Intel i7 3770 3.4 GHz (stock speeds)
RAM - Corsair Vengeance LP 8GB 1600MHz DDR (16 GB in total)
    Motherboard - ASUS P8Z77-v
    PSU - CollerMaster Silent Pro M II - 1000W
Gfx card - MSI Raden R7950 TF 3GD5OC BE
    Operating system - Windows 8.1 x64
    So here my issue:
I have 2 screens connected directly onto my graphics card, my main monitor is connected via DVI. My 2nd monitor (LG TV) is connected directly via HDMI.
When i have both screens enabled in windows, and for instance my wallpaper changes background, my windows taskbar acts weird and skips up and down very fast, just for the duration of the wall paper change.
The same issue also occurs when i'm scrolling on a web page; during the scroll down/ scroll up, the windows taskbar skips very fast up and down.
If i select in windows to only show 1 screen (my main monitor connected via DVI), and i scroll down/scroll up, or let my wallpaper change, the problem does not occur!
In my opinion, the problem is located that my clock settings might be too low for 2 screens? So i tried to create a 2D and a 3D profile via MSI AfterBurner, both having the default 3D speeds (880 MHz core clock and 1250 MHz Memory clock), but this doesn't seem to apply at all. Modifying the Fan speed works ofcourse without any issue :/
Sometimes, i also experience some artefacts in game (though this is very rare...)
Now i wonder what i should do/try next to get rid of those issues, as this is pretty annoying.
This issue shows on win 7 x64 as well as on win 8.1, i did a fresh install of windows on 19/10/2014, and the issue directly shows up.
Maybe a new bios for the gfx card may help?

  • G41M-P23 & E2160 "stuck" at 315

First a disclaimer: I know next to nothing about what I'm doing here so be bear with me...
So I have a G41M-P23 motherboard and an E2160 that I'm trying to overclock. Have everything in BIOS either at default or auto (except Spread Spectrum is off and memory multiplier cranked down to keep memory speed around 800 until I find the CPU limits first). I can go to 315MHz & 2.84GHz just fine like this but after that I hit a strange wall. What I mean by that is that regardless of what I set BCLK to (320, 333 etc.) in reality it stays at 315.5MHz. BIOS reports CPU speed & BLCK as set (for example 333MHz & 3GHz) but everything else (CPU-Z, RealTemp etc.) says 315.5 & 2.84 when running full load with IntelBurn. Setting anything less than 315 produces expected results, it's just going above that when "things get stuck".
Just in case I reflashed BIOS (latest available for this MB) and also tried clearing CMOS & loading defaults but no change.
I'm probably doing some very basic mistake here but for the life of me I can't figure it out, any ideas?

Quote from: Bernhard on 05-May-11, 20:43:59
Just keep monitoring your CPU temps under load as you increase the CPU frequency.
I realize that E2160 & G41 are not exactly cutting edge and of interest to folks now-a-days, but in case anyone is interested I found that the earlier mentioned 350MHz was about far as I could go and have things stable (run IntelBurn over night without any problems). Increasing NB voltage (up to 1.23V) got me no further either. Just to be on the safe side, took things down a notch and settled for 345MHz which works OK with AUTO NB voltage.
Having settled that, I found that I can use multi 9 i.e. run CPU at 3.1GHz stable. This did require increasing Core voltage to 1.41V which I assume is a bit on the high side but should still be OK. The E2160 is L2 with VID 1.3250.
Running full load with IntelBurn core temps are, according to RealTemp, around 58-59 with peak at 61. CPU temp, according to MSI Overclocking Center, is around 52-53 with peak at 54. Again I assume that these should be acceptable.
Memory wise I found that anything over 1100MHz gets things very unstable, increasing memory voltage to 1.65V and relaxed timings did not not help. SPD on the memory says 1.5V and 9-9-9-24 @ 1333 (got these from a guy who considered these "junk"). Now running @ 1035 and 7-7-7-20. If my math is correct, I think I could take RAS down to 19 even within the SPD spec.
So unless someone says that 1.41V is way too much or that those temps are way over the top, I think I'll call it a day. I don't doubt this could run faster but I suspect that from here on it would be "diminishing returns for increasing amount of work".
Once more, thanks for your help!
