MSI G41M-P33 Combo mainboard

I have a Medion PC which has an MS7502 motherboard and despite 4 memory slots, the latest BIOS, and reading in some conflicting answers from msi saying it would support 8Gb or 4GB depending on which answer you read found it  only supports 4Gb after getting the RAM. So I've ordered a MSI G41M-P33 Combo mainboard. which will support 8Gb
I've been looking at the drivers available and have noticed that some say not for Windows 8- so what will I be missing out on, and does the AC97 sound driver incompatibility mean no sound from it?
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver (NonWin8)
Live Update 5 (NonWin8)
Super Charger (NonWin8)
The Super Charger isn't relevant to me, shame about the live update but it's not essential, but I would like a bit of sound. Are drivers built into Windows 8, is there likely to be a working update, or must I buy a card to get sound?
And is there anything else I should know?
Thanks!

You can not use 4 sticks of any RAM on the Combo MB, there are 4 slots of which you can install 2 sticks DDR2 or 2 sticks DDR3. You can't use both types at the same time
 From MSI specs
Main Memory

I recently bought an msi g41m-p33 combo MB. My cpu is an intel Q6600 G0 running at 2.4ghz.
I tested the MB with an old ddr2 kingston 2gb stick and it worked without problems.
I want to uprgrade to ddr3.  The ram test report from msi doesn't have any ddr3 1333mhz sticks
and for 1333mhz i have to OC my MB but  i don't think is the best choice.
From DDR2-800 to DDR3-1066 is not quite an upgrade.
    Because DDR3-1066 (CAS = 7) is not faster than DDR2-800 (CAS = 5).
But if you want an "upgrade" from 4GB to 8GB, that's something else.
Anyway, the "Combo" motherboards are problematic and Bernhard already gave you some good hints.
To have a chance running 8GB DDR3 on this motherboard, you need 4GB DDR3-1066 modules with 256Mx8 chips (16 chips per module).

  • MSI G41M-P33 Combo Motherboard & DDR3 Memory Issue

Hello, so yesterday (Monday, September 30, 2013) I bought the MSI G41M-P33 Combo Motherboard and 2x4GB DDR3 1333 memory. This motherboard supports DDR2 & DDR3 memory (2 slots each; 4 total). The motherboard supports 1333 MHz and up to 8GB of memory.
So I put the computer together, and tried to load up. I get 3 beeps (I looked it up, and this means bad memory). So I took out those two DDR3 sticks and replaced it with one 1GB DDR2 memory that was in the old motherboard. That loaded up! I tried sticking in the second 1GB DDR2 from the old motherboard, and that worked aswell! There was 2048MB of memory running on there.
So I think that the memory I bought is bad/broken. I went back to the store and got a different set of 2x4GB DDR3 memory. I tired this memory combo excluding the DDR2 memory, and it did the same exact thing. It beeped 3 times ---> hence concluding that the motherboard doesn't want to work with DDR3. I went on MSI's website to update the BIOS. I downloaded "7592vWB.zip" (released about 2 months ago) from "msi.com/product/mb/G41M-P33-Combo.html#/?div=BIOS"  and I extracted it to a USB (using a different computer). I went back to the DDR2 stick on the problem computer so it can load and I can go back into the BIOS. Did the update, it completed successfully.
Yet, I still get the same issue of the 3 beeps with the DDR3 memory. I do not want to return these memory sticks, since I prefer 8GB DDR3 memory, and if I replace them with another set of DDR3 memory, I'm sure it will still do the same thing.
Helping me with this is much appreciated. Thanks for reading.

I have exactly same issue. MB works fine with DDR2 2x2GB. I wanted to bump up the memory and bought ADATA 4GB DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 stick.
All has been said before. Chances with current DDR3 1600 are slim to zero.

Combo boards are picky with ram especially DDR3 which has been far from being standard at the time the board has been released.
DIMM of 1.5 Volt  DDR3 800/1066/1333*(OC) means the board supports DDR3 800 and 1066 1.5v sticks by default and according to it's controllers specs BUT DDR3 1333 is considered overclocking (* oc) and as usual with overclocking it might work or might not work depending on the individual sample. As these sticks are current sticks and your board is quite old compatibility might not be ideal. Eventually it would work with increased voltage or relaxed timings but as your board won't work with the DDR3 sticks at all you can't change settings.
An idea would be clearing cmos before retrying with just one stick as you changed from DDR2 to DDR3 and old settings could be a problem too (>>Clear CMOS Guide<<).

    flobelix is right.
    Something more:
For the G41 chipset DDR3 is a workaround.
This chipset has been designed to work with DDR2.
On the other hand, DDR2-800 (CAS = 5) is as fast as DDR3-1333 (CAS = 9) in most of the benchmarks.
So for your motherboard, 2 x 2GB DDR2-800 is the best match.

  • Confused over FSB speed on 645 combo mainboard

    Hi,
I've just bought a msi 645 combo mainboard and a intel celeron 2.2ghz (400mhz FSB)
My query is that when I go into the Bios set-up and then into the frequency/ voltage support the cpu frontside bus is set on 100mhz when my cpu runs at 400mhz, if I try to alter the fsb clock it only allows me to alter it to 200mhz but when I do this the DRAM frequency changes and is lowered below 333mhz (333 DDR is the memory I'm running)
Any help would be really appreciated.
                                          Mike

The P4 BUS does 4 operations per clock, it has an FSB of 100MHz and a system BUS of 400MHz.
Your CPU shold be set to 100MHz.

Hi guys, I've recently had a huge problem, my system cannot POST at all and it's been driving me insane.
I've tried to get into the BIOS but I can't get anywhere at all, I've used onboard VGA and DVI to get a display on the monitor neither worked, installed my GPU using HDMI and DVI on my monitor, "no signal" my monitor says.
I've took everything out and re installed everything, took the RAM out and replaced it in a different dim, didn't work so then I tried it with no RAM at all and couldn't even get a BEEP code for any indication for what to do next.
Tried 2 hard drives from work that have Windows 7 on (Samsung and Seagate).
I've cleared the CMOS and left it for 30 seconds and re-installed it hoping for a reason, nothing.
I'm really banging my head against the wall as I'm out of ideas and can't get any indication for what I'm doing wrong.
    Any help is massively appreciated.

That processor is supported starting with BIOS v4.6
    http://www.msi.com/support/mb/B85MP33.html#down-bios
You need to borrow a more "popular" CPU, be sure the system is rock stable and update the BIOS (to v4.7).

  • Msi G41M-P25 won't boot

    Hi everyone,
I just bought a new mother board and processor, installed win7 rebooted several times, then next day I couldn't boot it up. No post , nothing. Screen dead.
The board is MSI G41M-P25, processors E6500.
    product page: http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&prod_no=2014
I tried, resetting the bios, switching psu, memory modules etc. but no result. I even tried with a new bios battery.
I read some had problems with this board, some even were DOA.
On some other forum, somebody had a problem that his bios didn't support its newer cpu. So they used an older cpu to update the bios.
But mine woked a day befote :(
At one pointe when i was intalling win 7, the bios reset istself, had to set time and date.
Any idea what can i do, or try before I send back the board?
Also the cpus fsb is 1066(266) should I set the switches on the easy oc to 200->266?

Update: I tried with  my q6600 cpu, it started, booted into windows, then tried flash the bios, its asked for restart then , dead. No more life sign. No matter what which cpu i use. I never seen anything like this. This is my first Msi product, not a very lucky start :((

I think you have to find out at Realtek's site if they have come up with drivers:
"Supports 10/100/1000 Fast Ethernet by Realtek 8211CL."
...Can't find any by a quick glance. It wont work with Windows 7 own drivers?
The Realtek's pages has no drivers for the 8211CL, tried that yesterday.. Doesn't seem like Win7 works with it...

I'm not sure, but the standard nforce driver may have installed the LAN drivers for you.
I just downloaded newest nForce and geforce drivers fron NVIDIA, everything including LAN works except audio (which I disabled anyway).  It shows up on device manager as "nForce Ethernet" or something like that.
    Good luck!
    I will try that.
    Thanks for both answers!

  • MSI GF615M-P33 problem with sb audigy se

    Hi everyone
First of all in case it's useful, here's my system:
    Windows xp sp2 32bit
    AMD Athlon X2 240 2.8GHz Socket AM3 2MB
    MSI GF615M-P33 GeForce 6150SE Socket AM3
Asus Radeon X1550 512mb (old card works fine)
    Sound Blaster Audigy SE
    Crucial 2GB DDR3 1333MHz/PC3-10600 Memory CL9 1.5V
    0 Maxtor 80GB  SATAII 7200rpm 8MB Cache
    1 Maxtor 250GB SATAII 7200rpm 8MB Cache
    G7 680 watt psu
So this is my third msi board and everything is fine except windows is giving me this error code: Your computer's system firmware does not include enough information to properly configure and use this device (sound blaster audigy).  To use this device, contact your computer manufacturer to obtain a firmware or BIOS update. (Code 35).
I had a look at what I think is the bios version according to the boot screen A7597nms V2.0 123109 (does this look right?). Also, the advertised version of my board had a red pcb, mine is black and the version is 1.2, don't know if that's important, mentioning anyway.
Now I know the card works with the board because I did something slightly different, (just to see if it would work and save time). After building the computer I didn't reformat the hard drive from the previous mother board, just plugged it in and installed the new chipset drivers etc. Everything fine, soundcard working, except the cpu was only in single core and running very cool; less than 30 degrees c. So, decided to reformat properly, all good, cpu in multi and running around 40 degrees c, but just this problem with the sound card.
Another difference I notice is in windows control panel under Power Options I can't enable 'advanced power management' the option isn't there, so have to switch of the computer manually (which isn't a major problem). In the bios I always disable ACPI as I run a lot of audio processing software and according to some stuff I've read, can cause problems with irq's and all that technical stuff that I don't know much about.
Anyway, to the point. My question is: do I need to update the bios to 2.1 or would it be better to buy a new sound card. I've tried various bios settings and updating the drivers but makes no difference. I've even reinstalled windows with acpi enabled, again, the same error code.
Any help/questions much appreciated. Hope I've explained this well enough.

Now I am having a different problem. The motherboard will not power up.
It is a 300 watt power supply, should that not be sufficient?
I unhook everything..floppy, fans, hard drive..still no power up.
I try putting ram in different slots, still no power up. Nothing. Not even on that optional connector on the back with 4 LEDs to indicate system status.
I can't figure out what's wrong here. Usually when a mobo will not power up it is improperly seated video card, ram, or some combination thereof.
I have reseated the ram and video card to no avail. I have tried the RAM in slots 1&3, 1&2, and 2&4.
One other quirk is while this IS a P4 PS because it has the 12V CPU power hookup (the 4 connector one) there is no "power switch" or "reset switch" wire(s) to go to the motherboard. Should that cause a problem? I had a P3-350 in there just fine prior to putting in the Neo-2-S, it never had any problems needing that wire. Do I need a new case?

Can anyone help..I've never had so much trouble with components before. :/ I build PC's all day long at work, never had problems like these. This is my first Pentium 4.
I can't get the mainboard to power up, period..we're not even to the point it could POST, because no power..
I have no spare parts to swap in to see if anything is DOA..and if I start playing "guess which item to send back" it's going to get very costly in restocking fees. :/
