MSI G41TM-E43 version 1.0 BIOS Recovery help

My PC keeps going into BIOS recovery mode and won't do anything else. It wants to grab the BIOS file off a USB drive, so I tried to download the BIOS file from MSI, put it on the drive, and then rebooted. The PC finds the drive, but keeps saying it can't find the file. I'm not entirely sure I have the right file, because the picture of the motherboard on the MSI web site doesn't match my motherboard, and the manual shows a different layout as well, presumably for version 2.
I need to know which BIOS file to download and what to name it. I have tried leaving the name alone, and I have also tried naming it AMIBIOS.ROM and AMIBOOT.ROM, which was suggested by some sites.
Can anyone help me find the correct file or help me reset the BIOS somehow? It may be that the motherboard is just broken, but I would like to be sure.
Thanks,
Matt

Thanks for responding! It didn't occur to me to try that because all the trouble started when I removed the IDE DVD-ROM drive and installed a SATA DVD drive instead, so I figured it was related to something I had done. I'll try a new battery and see if it helps.
Thanks!

My computer died on me the other day so I thought it was the psu. I replaced that and that still didn't help so I replaced the motherboard. The MSI motherboard will boot, but restarts 3 to 4 times before it will boot up. Once it's running the computer runs fine. I also get an overclocking error every time the computer boots up and the over clocking button is an the default position. Has any one else had this problem or a fix? I'm starting to think I need to exchange the motherboard.
    Thanks for any help
edit - I tried taking everything out and it still restarts.

I am afraid your CPU is one of the few thats not listed on the support page. http://www.msi.com/product/mb/G41TM-E43.html#?div=CPUSupport
This may or may not be the problem, but I do suggest you contact MSI support here >>How to contact MSI.<< and establish a course of action or get clarification.
also tell us the exact mem modules you are using

I created your own thread rather than your hijacking the other.
Please post a complete list of your components.  Post the amps on the +12V rail(or rails if split), brand, and model of both PSUs that you have tried.
Also post an accurate description of what you've tried and what happens.

So for everyone with same model and same problem: It turns out this bios really don't boot-block. So failed bios = paperweight brick without recovery options.
But this is how I solved mine. Bought a SPI programmer, ic test clip (soic8) , some wires and made adapter to connect clip ind programmer. Had some problems , and had also to modify downloaded bios since I didnt have good backup but after little playing it fired right up. If you have good backed up rom, flashing should be easier. This is solution for those with more technical skills , but much easier than soldering the chip.

  • MSI GT-70 2OC Aptio BIOS Recovery help

    Dear All,
    I have a MSI GT70 2OC-059US i7 running under 64bit windows 8.1 and
I tried to update the BIOS using the instructions at     www msi com/files/pdf/Flash_BIOS_by_UEFI_BIOS_Setup_Utility_en.pdf
    with w8_E1763IMS.50R
USB stick I used was FAT32 on a USB3.0 port.  This computer has Aptio AMI BIOS.
I followed the above Step-by-Step instructions to the letter and proceeded to the end of step 12. When I pressed ok at the end of step 12, screen went blank system did not do anything for about an hour.  There was nothing else I could do so I turned the notebook off from the power button.  Now I can turn on the notebook from the power button (power button light up white) but screen is completely black and no beeps what so ever (with and without USB stick plugged in).
I would greatly appreciate if someone can guide me on how to recover my system - I have performed BIOS upgrades before on other computers without any problems and I am fairly computer literate.   What I have seen on the forum requires floppy disks and appears to be out-of-date.

I updated my version of bios w8_e1763ıms.70s.

    2. Downloaded the BIOS (sp60574.exe)

Interestingly F2 button does not work after hitting Esc. Only ones that respond are are F1 and F11. Windows is corrupt - cant proceed any further (Wish i had imaged to recover  ). If you begin tapping the Esc key immediately after powering on, does the Startup menu appear?
Caps Lock blinks twice/Wifi light on when Windows+B is pressed and powered on. Everytime i removed battery, took out CMOS - tried for hard reset, got a 502 checksum error. Cant see this mesage in next restart. Strange! Is CMOS battery dead or is this a motherboard issue? Do not the CMOS battery. That is old school. It does not work in newer noteboks like yours.
Many threads suggest generating .sig and .bin and place it in BIOS folder. Will this work? Yes. That will work
    Thank you all!
If start menu appears, choose F2.

  • DV6-6000 LF372AV - Fails BIOS recovery

I have a DV6-6000 Prod #LF372AV where the BIOS became corrupted.  Didn't attempt update, just failed out of the blue.
First symptom is turn on PC, hear fan come on then immediately reboots.  Stuck in this cycle of rebooting forever.  With no error codes (such as not even Caps Lock LED blink) I guessed corrupted BIOS.
I tried the Windows+B, but I've wiped this harddrive previously and the BIOS recovery partion was gone.
So, I downloaded and ran the HP UEFI Support Environment Softpaq as directed here:
         http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c02693833.
This partially worked.  With a Recovery BIOS loaded on the the USB flash drive, I can hold Windows+B at power up and BIOS loads off the USB key.  However, it is NOT replacing the corrupted BIOS on the laptop.
According to the instructions, once the temporary BIOS is installed, a reboot should automatically occur.  Instead, NOW it stays on (no more spontaneous reboot cycle) and I get a 2 blink error code out of the Caps Lock LED.  It seems that the temporary BIOS loads into BIOS memory, but the stored BIOS itself cannot be overwritten.  As I stated earlier, if I reboot, I'm back to the original condition.
So, it appears that the BIOS storage is bad. ???
Even if that is the case, I don't understand why boot into BIOS stops at the error indicating BIOS is corrupted.  Obviously the mem copy of BIOS run off the USB flash drive is "more functioning" than the stored BIOS, but I still can't get far enough to get to the BIOS editor or any BIOS update utility.
I tried a second method.  I downloaded the latest BIOS for this model laptop from HP support.  Then I extracted it and ran the updater.  It extracted an even newer version of the BIOS recovery tool onto my flash drive.  This had the exact same results as the UEFI Support Environment version of BIOS.  Therefore, two different versions of BIOS have failed to repair the corrupted BIOS and have failed to get me past the caps lock LED blinking twice.
Any help would be most appreciated.

    Hi
    Workaround:
There are few steps that has worked for few but not always..
Restart and tap F2.  F2  will show an option “BIOS Management” . Select BIOS Management and then select “Roll Over to the previous BIOS”
BIOS Management option will not be available if the system do not have HP_Tools partition installed or if it is deleted.
Fix if BIOS Management is not available
    i)                    Press and Hold the Windows Key and B key at the same time when the system is turned off or follow the steps from this link: Recovering the BIOS using key press combination
ii)                 Shutdown the Notebook. Remove the Hard Drive and then turn the computer ON and tap F10 to load BIOS. If it loads BIOS then it should rollback to previous BIOS or it might show a black screen. Just leave the system ON for about 2-3 mins and turn it on with the hard drive and check.
Let us know how it goes!

  • New MSI Motherboard G31TM-P21 bios recovery

So I just got a new motherboard delivered to me yesterday from Newegg and installed it right away. At first it was working fine I just had a few other problems going on, just put a newly bought Pentium Dual core inside it and was trying to increase the processor speed thru the bios bus clock. So what happened was my friend recommended me trying to get to 3.8 ghz (originally 3.00 ghz), when I was currently on 3.3 ghz or so from increasing the bus clock to 220 (default 200). That seemed to be working out fine so I decided I'd try to get to 3.8. The bus clock on that turned out to be 254, and at the time I didnt even think about lowering ratios or ram/gpu affections. I restarted after saving the settings and then my computer started to just stop loading all together. It was like it was trying to load everything normally but would stop at random points and stay on whatever screen was there last.
So now comes the problem, after a few reboots of freezing, I finally ended up just getting a Bios recovery requested screen before any type of other screen shows up. Its telling me to put in a usb with the bios file for the motherboard. I've had my friend helping me look up problems and we've tried soo many tests, all of them resulted in the same bios recovery screen.
-Using 1 stick of unnaffected RAM
-Clearing CMOS by taking out battery for at least 5 minutes
    -CMOS Jumper clearing
I've also tried to create a bootable USB for bios flashing and put in the latest bios file and flash tool onto the USB. That results in a screen saying,
"Please copy latest BIOS file into USB flash drive to recover your BIOS
    File not found"
then it loops that until I take out the USB or turn off the computer.
Also there is no FSB switch on my motherboard like there is supposed to be, there is an empty square with 6 solder holes on the board so I cant toggle the FSB back to default using those switches.
I was using this to make a usb bootable for bios flashing: http://www.biosflash.com/e/bios-boot-usb-stick.htm
and I was using these files from MSI to transfer on USB after making bootable USB: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/G31TM-P21.html#/?div=BIOS
So... if anyone can help me to make this work at all I would very much appreciate it. Once I get the bios working again (assuming I can) I'm keeping to default.

Well with the CMOS clearing I already did all of the above, except I left out the battery for 5 minutes, and ended up with the same result for bios recovery. I want to clarify that I cannot even get to the BIOS, as soon as I boot with that motherboard I get an instant black screen with text telling me to insert a USB flash drive with the latest BIOS file. There is no type of menu or anything of any kind.
The specifications of this build was:
    MSI G31TM-P21, MS-7529 Version 1.6 (New motherboard)
Intel Pentium Dual Core E5700 3.00GHz (New Processor)
2 x1GB of DDR2 667 or 800 not sure (same ram on my old motherboard)
Nvidia 8600GT 256 MB DDR3 (same card on old motherboard)
300W Power supply (efficient enough to run old build)
    Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit
Thats about all I can think to add right now that you would possibly need. I know the 2 x1GB of memory still works, as its in my old motherboard again and thats what I'm currently on. I dont have any other way of testing if the Processor was fried, but I'm pretty confident that it was capable of that overclocked speed since there were reviews saying so. If there's any other way I can help please let me know what u need, I would love to get this working.

It did not come with compability in my case, I bought my MB in Norway. I assembled everything and booted up. The POST screen told me that I had an Athlon processor but the model number was unknown. However I was able to flash my BIOS using a Win98 boot disk and the latest BIOS from MSI (just follow the instructions included in the BIOS release). Notice that I did the flashing before installing anything on the computer.
In short you should have no problems flashing the BIOS, and thus making the MB recognize the Athlon 64 X2 CPU.
The only way is to updates the latest BIOS 1.9 in order to make it recognised for your mobo.

It's depends actually cos sometimes the BIOS is old type and if you're lucky you'll get the new version of the BIOS. That RAM's it works for the mobo. So good luck.

  • Toshiba A105 BIOS Recovery Process Questions

    Hi!
Ive got a Toshiba Laptop A105-S4284, Model #: PSAA8U-0FH02K that froze while trying to flash the BIOS. Now, when I try to boot it up, it gets stuck in the same place it did during the flashing; on the Toshiba splash screen with the status bar at the bottom showing about 20% complete. Options available on this screen are: Press F2 for System Settings and F12 for Boot Menu. Pressing F2 results in a beep and the status bar is replaced with the text "Please Wait..." but nothing else happens no matter how long I wait. Pressing F12 doesnt do anything. Pressing ESC takes me to a screen that shows the typical system info -- Phoenix Technologies Version 6.00; Intel Calistoga CRB.T3A Reference BIOS; VERSION.MAK 1.53. It looks like its at least partially POSTing since it shows CPU, Cores, No TPM or TPM has a problem, and system RAM and stops there. I cant get into the BIOS and cant boot into Windows.
Ive read the posts on here regarding the BIOS Recovery Process and was hoping someone could provide some clarification for me, especially since Ive already waited a week with no reply on another tech support site forum. :-(
Anyways... Ive downloaded the Crisis Recovery.zip files to create a Recovery Disk and am trying to follow the instructions.
There are a bunch of files in the .zip and Im not sure exactly which files I need to have on the boot disk Im creating.
The files in the .zip are:
    - crisboot.bin
    - CRISDISK.BAT
    - makeboot.exe
    - minidos.sys
    - phlash16.exe (actually PHLASH16 version 1.6.5.4)
    - wincris.exe
    - wincris.hlp
Ive downloaded the BIOS Update from Toshibas website for the A105-S4284. Which file do I need to rename to BIOS.WPH and add to my Recovery Disk directory? Do I want "s10gm600.rom" or "1988d600.ima"? I extracted the file from the bootable BIOS installation diskette (1988d600.exe) to get the 1988d600.ima file.
I ran wincris.exe and only the following files end up in the directory Ive designated for my Recovery Disk:
    - BIOS.WPH
    - MINIDOS.SYS
    - PHLASH16.EXE
Do I need any of the other files from the original .zip?:
    - crisboot.bin
    - CRISDISK.BAT
    - makeboot.exe
    - wincris.exe
    - wincris.hlp
If someone could provide some clarification on which files to use and most importantly, if those are the correct files for the laptop Im trying to fix. I think all the posts Ive read are for laptops newer than this one and it seems the secret to succeeding at recovering a BIOS is using the CORRECT files. Ive searched all over and cant find any posts from someone with an A100/A105 who has been able to do a BIOS Recovery from a CD, USB floppy or USB flash drive.
    Is there ANY hope?
Thanks in advance for your time and assistance with this; its GREATLY appreciated.
    Sarah ;-)

    Hi Sarah,
I had the same thing happen to my A105 4094.  I've looked at some of the other blogs, but I'm not sure if I should try the corrective action they suggest.  Not sure how common the different models are.
I'm going to keep trying to resolve this.  If I find something that works, I'll write again and let you know.  Please do the same for me and other A105 owners.
    Thanks,
    Jamie

  • Dv6748us how to make a bios recovery usb

how to make a  bios recovery usb?

    Hi!
You can download new BIOS versions on the Toshiba website. Search for your model and select BIOS update
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
Download the right file and follow these instructions:
Extract the zip file containing the BIOS upgrade to a temporary folder.
Make sure that all open files are saved and all applications are closed.
Execute the extracted *.exe file in the temporary folder. Follow the instructions on the screen.
The BIOS update will be done automatically.
After a few minutes the Notebook will restart automatically.
