MSI G70, can't adjust volume in game using keyboard shortcuts

Hello! Brand new MSI laptop, so awesome. However, I am unable to adjust the volume in-game using the keyboard shortcut FN+left arrow or FN+right arrow. It works fine outside of the game. I can also adjust the brightness in the game using FN+up arrow or FN+down arrow.
The games I've tried this in so far are Skyrim and Team Fortress 2. Any suggestions?

The game just preempts the audio control from OS and make function keys ineffective. You'll need to ask the game designer.
I don't think that can be right. I didn't have any problem adjusting the volume in these same games with my last laptop using the keyboard shortcuts.

  • Cannot use keyboard shortcut to adjust volume in iTunes

Before version 10.2, I could use the Command Up/Down combo to adjust the volume in iTunes. As of 10.2.1, I can use Command Up, but when I use Command Down, it does not control the slider, it moves my library selection from Music to Movies, Podcasts, etc. as if I was just pressing the Down arrow. How can this be fixed?

I noticed that my volume was really low in itunes even though the keyboard volume was up all the way and the volume slider in itunes was up all the way too.
So, I went into System Preferences and reset the volume from the slider in there.
I shudder to think how that got as low as it was set, because I didn't do it.
Thats when I realized I can no longer control the volume of itunes from my keyboard or the menu icon.
I can however adjust it in itunes.
But were's the fun in that?
None of the remedies I have read about so far have worked.
    What next?

Yes nachit, I have the same problem.
I've noticed that when I switch between the output audio devices (i.e. Built in speaker to headphones), the volume control fails.
I've already opened a topic yesterday. At this time, no answer.

  • Where can I find a list of the keyboard shortcuts for editing a Wiki page, on Windows and Mac?

I tried searching in Help, but I haven't been able to find anything.  I'd like to get a list of the keyboard shortcuts that work while editing a wiki page in the Mac Server Wiki running on Lion.
When accessing Lion Server Wiki from a Mac, some of the usual suspects work: cmd+B for bold, cmd+} to indent, etc.  When accessing the Lion Server Wiki from Windows, though, I can't find an equivalent keyboard shortcut for the indent / unindent.  Where can I find a list of all of them?
    Thanks!

They are also listed in the built-in User Guide accessible directly on the iPhone in Safari.
Find the "iPhone User Guide" bookmark, then go to iPhone at a Glance > Status icons

  • Upgraded to FF 17 for Mac, can't navigate backwards via back button, keyboard shortcut, or back button's drop-down.

Back button, back-button's dropdown menu, keyboard shortcut (command-[) don't function after upgrade. I've disabled extensions that seem suspect.

Did you try to disable all extensions?

  • MacBookPro8,2 (2011) - Freezes when I adjust volume in game

Whenever I am in a fullscreen game and I try to adjust the volume, my system freezes and I have to do a hard reboot. It has happened in TF2, LFD2, WoW, and SC2.
Brand new MacBook Pro from 2011 refresh purchased yesterday.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Do you have any USB audio devices?
Do you know that all of the programs in question have been tested with your currently installed operating system and graphics chipset? If not, double check with the developer in question.
If you have no USB audio devices, and the software in question has been tested with your hardware, I would run the hardware test that came with your Mac:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303081
If there are no issues there, no USB audio, and the software is known to work with the hardware, I'd suspect possibly some bad RAM*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/badram.html
or another hardware malfunction not tested for in the test. Bring it in for service.

  • Nokia 6110 Navigator - Can't adjust volume on anyt...

The other day I set the volume button on the side of the phone to max so I could hear a voice recording better.
Now, the phone volume is fixed on max for all applications: music, ring tone, mms & sms tones etc. I've tried to adjust all of these back to normal levels through Profiles, Phone Settings and even [in desperation] the volume button again - but nothing works.
The only way to stop the ear blast is to use mute, but that obviously defeats the purpose!!!!!
    Can anyone help?-

I coudln't adjust the volume using the keyboard, the volume control at the top of the desktop or in the system prefs. I would move the slider or press the buttons, but the volume wouldn't change up or down.
Resetting the PRAM seemed to have fixed the problem.
    Thanks!

  • Yosemite 10.10.1 can't adjust volume

I just bought a new 15 inch retina display macbook pro a couple days ago, it came with yoemite installed, it was 10.10. I did a software update and now its 10.10.1 the problem is when I try to adjust the volume the following icons appear, sound source are the internal speakers and i don't have any earphones/external speakers connected. Anyone know why this is happening? Thanks

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by the warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

  • Can't adjust volume of audio clips

For some reason sliding the audio volume on the clip does absolutely nothing to the volume when I play it back!
    Please tell me what's wrong.

Is the audio contained within the clip, that is, is it the audio initially recorded with the video? Or is the audio an added soundtrack (music or voiceover)? If it is the added soundtrack, you need to click on the small gear icon on the green or purple track that sits under the thumbnails - not on the clip thumbnails themselves - then select "Audio Adjustments" from the pop-up menu. The Inspector will open, allowing you to make the appropriate adjustments to the volume etc.
If you have dragged a music soundtrack into the background of your project, so that the whole background is coloured green, click on the small gear icon located in the upper left corner, select "Audio Adjustments" and continue from there, as above.
Likewise, if you wish to adjust the volume on the actual video clips, select the clips and click on the gear icon on one of them and follow the steps above. To select a range of clips, if the clips are adjoining click on the first clip then Shift-click on the last. If not adjoining, click on the first then Command-click on each of the others in the range.
Hope I'm not misunderstanding what you may have already tried!
    John

  • Popping coming from speakers, can't adjust volume!

    This started happening today.
Clicking and barely audible popping noises coming from my Macbooks speakers.
I can't raise or lower the volume now either...

If there is a red light coming from the headphone jack, it means the digital audio out is stuck on. A temporary fix is to insert and remove headphones several times to try to untrip it. Unfortunately, this might need a hardware repair to replace the logic board (as the headphone jack is part of the board).

  • TS1630 Can't adjust volume Iphone 4

When i press my volume buttons on Iphone 4 I get the speaker icon shown, but the little dots that shows where your volume is set at dosn't show... I also cant hear any sounds on youtube, spotify etc. I cant adjust the volume.. I have tried rebooting the phone and that didn't work. any ideas?

Clean the iPhone charging port with a clean dry toothbrush. Dust, dirt, debris could be shorting some of the pins.

  • Sometimes the function keys stop working (can't adjust volume, screen brightness, keyboard backlighting), and at the same time I'm unable to restart, log off, or shut down in any way.

It's quite inexplicable, as I'm not able to access some system functions — I can't even open the force quit dialog to see if something has crashed. I can't open my Mac information (via "About this Mac"), but I can open System Preferences. Maybe all these functions share a common underlying process, I don't know.
I haven't found a way to fix this other than to hard restart the MacBook Pro by holding down the power button. I don't like doing that! I wish there was a workaround. Anyone have an idea?

This entire thing is a hair over four months old, I don't think it should be acting up this much. Plus, this problem happens only once out of every 40 or 50 times I start this thing up. It's very infrequent, but it's there, and it just bothers me, I guess.
That said, I would try reinstalling, but I wouldn't be able to tell if it'd worked unless the problem never cropped up again in a long, long time. Sadly I also don't have access to my OSX discs at the moment (I'm out of the country).

  • I can't adjust volume on my Macbook pro

As showing on the picture above, I am not allowed to increase or decrease the volume of my external speaker. It just happened recently
Also when I go into perferences, under audio, it will say the chosen device has no output control.
I tried to search online for a solution, however, the solution that came up is through plugging a headphone and remove it.
I need to do it everytime after restarting my Mac from a shut down.
    Please help!!!

    Hello,
Make sure your MacBook's sound output is set to the correct setting. To do this go to 'System Prefrences' and open the 'Sound' page, select the correct output, 'Internal Speakers' are the deafult setting for MacBook's. Hopefully this should solve your problem.
    Hope this helps!

  • Can't adjust input level when using usb microphone

    Hey guys,
I'm very familiar with this version of Garageband, and just started using a Blue Snowball USB mic. When I plug it in and set the drivers accordingly, the input volume slider is greyed out, making it inaccessible. Is there a trick to being able to adjust input volume?

Option Click on the Volume slider icon in the menu bar and choose Sound Preferences. Choose the interface and you should be able to see the input level.
