MSI G70 Dragon Edition 2 and wake on lan

Hi everybody.
Does G70 laptop support wake on lan feature ?
Or how i can get wake on lan feature for this laptop.

Here I reply to myself : I think this will be useful to other people, whatever the motherboard model.
So, I just SUCCESSFULLY have been able to wake up my PC from the LAN
Here are my conclusions :
1- There's nothing in the motherboard documentation that explicitly indicates that it's supported. But it is !
2 - I didn't need to connect the LAN card to the motherboard (didn't need any WOL connection)
3 - I have a patched Windows XP. But its standard drivers for my network card weren't enough. I had to install the updated drivers from the manufacturer (admtek).
4 - With these drivers, I could then access, from Windows devices setup tool, to the network adapter APM properties, and I could "Allow Device to Bring Computer Out of Standby".
5. Inside the BIOS, a few things to setup :
Power Management Features
-> IPCA Function : Enabled
-> Power Management / APM : Enabled
-> Set Wake Up Events ... Wake Up On PME# : Enabled
Actually, this means that there is no explicit need for a "Wake On LAN" configuration. It all goes through PME# (i.e. direct PCI) wakeup events.
6. Then it works :-)
The excellent free tool available at
http://www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/
does the job at the remote computer side (when fed with the valid MAC and IP addresses).
I'm very pleased... but I wish MSI had somehow indicated that the motherboard is WOL capable !

  • MSI GT70 DRAGON EDITION Graphics driver issue

    hi,
i purchased a MSI GT70 DRAGON EDITION wich came with an Arabic version of windows 8 (purchased  in saudi arabia).so yesterday i did a clean installation of windows 7 64 bit Sp1 and for my bad luck my 4GB graphic card was not running.i checked in device manager it shows 2 graphic cards one of it is the onboard Intel graphics 4000 and the other one was just vga. i tried installing all particular drivers for it but it says graphic card not supported.
please help me out with this.
    regards,

    thanks guys.
now i can see both the Intel hd 4000 & nvidia gtx675mx in device manager.
now i would like to know how to switch to nvidia .i tried disabling Intel but then both graphics cards are not working.
    please guide me .
in nvidia control panel it shows the laptop display is connected to the intel HD4000 how do i move it to nvidia.
    regards ,
    rob
What exactly do you mean? Like when you want to play a game? You need to open up the NVidia control panels, go to "Manage 3D Settings", and then in the right most pane, click on the "Program Settings" tab. In there, you need to add each game/program you want to use the NVidia adapter with when it runs. This allows you to only use the NVidia adapter when you're running programs that require that graphics card. Very neat, and cool feature.

  • MSI GT70 Dragon Edition Nvidia Problem

First of all my first languages is'nt English if you can understand I would be gratefull.
I use MSI GT70 Dragon Edition with Ge force GTX 675 MX but Windows 8 doesn't recognise my graphic card. When I click the dxdiag I see Intel Graphic Cards.

Quote from: darkhawk on 14-January-13, 00:09:48
Yeah, ignore dxdiag and put a real 3D game in and see if it switches, thats the real test.
Wow am I late to the party. However I also fear that my GTX780M is not actually functioning in games with my GT70. How do I know for certain that it is "switching" from the Intel HD graphics. My distrust comes from the fact the in advanced tab under screen resolution (Windows 8) it always displays the Intel Graphics. The Nvidia card is listed as working in the device manager however. All of my power setting are set to gaming/high performance and in the Nvidia settings I have the GTX 780M set to global. Thanks is anyone can provide feedback.

  • 17.3" high performance gaming NB - Limited MSI GT70 Dragon Edition

In recent 2 years, MSI did not focus on the Ultrabook series as many other brands, they mainly focused on high performance of Gaming series Notebooks,
that makes MSI to become a well known gaming products company in the market, also shows how important of the Gaming related market.
MSI Gaming, Dell Alienware and ASUS ROG are the top 3 of the gaming laptop products in the gaming laptop market,
that's the well known brands in the gaming laptop market. The higher product position comes with much higher price range.
MSI extend their Gaming series become more price range segments, GT series on the top, GX series based on AMD platform,
and GE series focus on the performance level market with better Cost/Value, so that more consumer could consider their GE series with better price range.
This time we would like to share the latest version of MSI GT70 - The GT70 Dragon Edition.
The GT70 Dragon Edition totally changed with their box design, make it slimmer and with better looks of their dragon logo to impressed gamers and power users.
The ID design of GT70 Dragon Edition.
Compare with their regular GT70, the GT70 Dragon Edition use red metallic cover design with the Dragon Tattoo on it,
that makes GT70 more gaming style and high performance looks.
The metallic cover with normal light will be deep red, but the metal will reflect light of the color with different angle,
so the color of the red will be lighter when outdoor with sunshine.

34~38℃ when idle mode. (Cooler Boost on)
Run the InteBurn Test to make CPU with full loading - 73~86℃(Cooler Boost off)
Run the InteBurn Test to make CPU with full loading - 72~77℃(Cooler Boost on)
We use idle mode and full loading test to compare the Cooler Boost fan function to check difference.
The temperature difference of Cooler Boost on and off, it's about 2 degree when idle,
and biggest gap is 11 degree when CPU is full loading burning test, so the Cooler Boost really helps when users need it.
Besides the fan performance, about the noise of the cooler, it's not easy to hear the fan noise if Cooler Boost is off, and Cooler Boost will make the noise louder for sure.
But the noise is not high frequency that makes people uncomfortable, if you listen to the music or play games with Dynauido sound system, you will not hear the noise even you turn on the Cooler Boost.
Many notebooks with Dual Core will be 40℃ more when idle mode, and full loading will be 80~90 degree.
So the temperature of GT70 with Core i7 and GTX675MX is really well controlled, MSI did have good design skill on the thermal solution with small space inside the notebook.
Conclusion of MSI GT70 Dragon Edition:
    Pros:
    1. Dragon Edition makes the chasses with special coating with Dragon Tattoo, also improve the packing a lot. Upgraded hardware on GTX675MX and Killer Double Shot.
    2. Dual mSATA3 SSD and 2.5 inch 750GB HDD makes great balance of performance and capacity. 4xDDR3 DIMM with good extend of the RAM size.
    3. Rich on IO interface, 3 USB3.0 and 2 USB2.0, with HDMI, D-Sub and eSATA as well.
    4. Full size keyboard by Steelseries with back light, add on Turbo, Cooler Boost to boost up GPU and fan performance.
    5. Special 2 channel with 1 subwoofer design with Sound by Dynaudio system, the sound quality even better than previous version of GT70.
    6. Built in 1920x1080 Full HD matted display, that will makes your eyes more comfortable when gaming or watching movies.
    7. Latest Killer Double Shot function, the LAN is faster and WiFi comes with 2x2 and 2.4GHz/5GHz dual band design.
    Cons:
    1. SSD will be better if use the Micron or Marvell control chip.
    2. Maybe IPS panel is more expensive, but still expect the GT70 could option with IPS panel in the future.
    3. The NVIDIA graphics driver still need to improve on Windows 8 system, some 3D benchmark or games still can't get good performance on GTX675MX with full speed.
    4. Recommend to use Creative Sound Core3D quad core sound chipset.

  • M93p BIOS issue: PowerOff not correct if Enhanced Power Saving Mode Disabled and Wake on Lan Enabled

Hi Levnovo support team, Recently I bought a M93p tiny(10AAA05MTW)(BIOS revision FBKT56A)and installed with Ubuntu 13.10 myself. Then tried to enable wake on lan for my tiny. The followings are my test result. 1. Enhanced Power Saving Mode Enabled, no mateter what is Wake On Lan setting     PowerOff system is OK. 2. Enhanced Power Saving Mode Disable and Wake On Lan Disabled    PowerOff system is OK. 3. Enhanced Power Saving Mode Disabled and Wake On Lan Primary or Automatic   PowerOff system is NG.   When I tried to power off system, it always can poweroff(LEDs on front all off) then POWER ON again in 2 or 3 seconds.   I cannot accept this test result ,system should poweroff not reboot again.   It's really hard to understand why enabling Wake on Lan will affect power off function. I tried the same procedures with my another M92p(3212A16)(BIOS revision 9SKT70AUS), and it works well.

Did you ever get a fix for this?Having the same issue on 3 of 6 machines that just arrived.

  • MSI GT70 Dragon Edition, Plastic Scratches easily?

After several weeks of using this laptop some plastic covering around the keyboard is peeling off already so i decided to remove it. After a week i noticed that that are already some Scratches around the Keyboard if you can see yours,, it's the black boarder covering up the Whole Keyboard and also the Black plastic matterial covering the Monitor. I also see some scratches on the Touch bar, but i found out that there's a small film covering it up so no problem with that. My only concern is Does this laptop scratches easily? I'm quite disappointed  with the Plastic finish, My late ASUS G74SX's finish is far more Premium than my Dragon Edition. I'm still trying to look around the corner of that Plastic around the Keyboard if there's such thing as thin plastic covering it.. So please share your experience here. if you're experiencing this too. Thanks

@mike_cruz00, MSI is trying hard to offer very good performance wise laptops at those prices and therefore it becomes cheap regarding case and other. For example for GE 2012 series there is very cheap and glossy varnished plastic that it ruins design. Scratches, fingerprints and dust was making me crazy.
Therefore I suggest you to do what I did to mine yesterday and now feel happy. You need to cover those plastic around keyboard and maybe some more up to touch panel by vinyl carbon fiber. Don't worry that your case around keyboard is angled and curved because hot air makes vinyl wear anything like it was born there.
Vinyl costs like 3-4 bucks and it will be enough to cover 5 such areas. If you need more info just ask.
Here is my photo (sorry for quality).

  • MSI GT70 Dragon Edition

So I purchased the GT70 Dragon Edition and downgraded it from Win8 64 to Win7 64 and found out that this laptop is made only for wWin8 64 which means there are no video drivers for Win7 64 on it.....That started causing unreal video lags in my online Steam games... I wanted to ask: will there be any new video drivers for win7 64 on the GT70 Dragon Edition laptop?! Or never will?

Since no MSI drivers for Win7 will be released (as Dragon is Win 8 only) those will not appear on product site.

  • MSI GT70 Dragon Edition 2 Cleaning

Hey everyone new to the forum here.
I apologize if I am posting this in the wrong spot. I looked for some tips on cleaning the dragon edition 2 but could not find much on the forum.  I have had the laptop about 4 months and figure the fan could use a good cleaning. However I am worried I will void the warranty if I take the backing off of the laptop in order to gain access to the fan.
Also if anyone can help me get rid of the windows 8.1 update reminders that would be much appreciated. I am running smoothly on windows 8 right now and do not care to update to 8.1 at this time but the reminders continue to pop up. I keep clicking remind me later but eventually in my experience the remind me later option is not available and forces me to choose update in 1, 2, or 4 hours. Last time I was forced to 8.1 it was such a headache I chose to do a factory reset to get me back to 8.

  • MSI 645 Ultra and "Wake On LAN" ???

    Hello,
This question is aimed at the following people :
    - Someone who owns a MSI 645-Ultra motherboard, and who has some experience about it's "Wake On LAN" capabilities,
    or,
    - Someone at MSI who knows the detailed specifications of this motherboard (related to its "Wake On LAN" capabilities).
I own a "MSI 645 Ultra" motherboard for some time now (more than a year). It's based on SIS 645 chipset.
Currently, I'm trying to make the computer boot on demand, through the LAN.
So, I have an appropriate network card : its based on Admtek AN983, it supports "Wake On LAN" (WOL), and a WOL cable was included.
About the MSI 645 Ultra motherboard, I looked at the documentation, and, surprisingly, I didn't find any mention of the WOL feature.
Too sad, this "modern" motherboard doesn't support WOL feature ??
The doc says there is support for WOR (Wake on modem Ring), and there is a WOR connector. But no WOL connector.
So, what's the status of this motherboard, regarding WOL support ??
    - Is it internally supported, without the need of a WOL connection, directly through  PCI and PME signaling ?
    - Can I use the motherboard WOR input connector, and plug the network card's WOL into it ?
    - Is all of this non sense ??
Thanks in advance for your clarifications and tips.
Technical replies are welcome (I have a solid networking background)

  • MSI GT70 Dragon Edition Nvidia Video card crash

So I've updated my Nvidia driver to the latest version, but whenever I open a game the graphic starts to lag and then freeze... I also hear weird motor sounds in my headphones while this lags.... I tried to downgrade the Nvidia driver to the one which my model of MSI recommends: I tried both Beta and WHQL Nvidia drivers my model of MSI recommends but that didn't help either. I also witnessed the crash of the Nvidia driver ( a notification appeared that Nvidia driver has stopped working ) which made me totally be sure that this lag and freeze problems aren't the problems of the game nor the the switching of Intel and Nvidia video cards, they switch good. This is the problem of Nvidia video driver, all the versions I tried kept crashing due to the same lags and freezes in any game I try, can anyone help me !?

    Hi,
I don't understand if the MSi K8N Neo4 Platinum has wake on lan capability..
There is in BIOS a setting in power manegement, but it's not loisting 'wake on lan'. In Windows (XP Pro), I can find a tool from MSI where I can setup a date/time for the PC to boot up, but nothing about WOL.
    Can it do WOL ?
    How does it work ?
    Thanks for your help,
    Rico

Wake On LAN, developed from Intel, provides remote wake-up technology that enables
systems to be remotely powered "on" for off hour’s tasks.
A result of the Intel-IBM Advanced Manageability Alliance and part of the
Wired for Management Baseline Specification, this technology helps save time on automated software
installations, upgrades, disk backups and virus scans.
Wake on LAN technology resides in a managed network adapter and on the system motherboard.
Please see the Intel web site for more information on WOL technology.
