MSI Gaming 5 Z97 -- major issues, currently A2-error

Hey there,
I very much hope someone is able to assist on this one; I feel I have literally tried everything already, and would hate to go through the struggle of returning one or more faulty components. My specifications are as follows -- please note that this is a whole new build and that I have yet to install Windows. I have not been able to reach the BIOS; at every attempt I have been met with no display. I have tested the monitor on several other computers, everything works accordingly.
MOBO: Z97 Gaming 5, MSI
GPU: GigaByte GTX 980
CPU: Intel i7-4790K
RAM: DDR3 4x4GB 2400-11 XMP Beast Kingston
Furthermore, I am running two WD Green 3TBs and 1 Samsung 500GB SSD as storage.
First issue: A sequence of errors: 55 10 19 and 15. I removed all RAM and tested slot by slot - no change. I placed them all back and it somehow - magically - fixed it. However, once I get past 55, I am met with some real issues - seemingly unfix-able (this is where you guys come in  ). I am currently booting alright (presumably), but I cannot get any further than 62 - 99 - A2. I have no idea how to solve A2.
All suggestions is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
EDIT: This is strange; I let the computer run whilst typing this message. In the meantime it changed from A2 to showing just the temperature (which was 46 and sounds *very* strange and way to high, but that is another problem for another time). I am not sure what caused this, but I was not shown anything on the monitor regardless. Again, there's nothing installed on the computer.

What's the BIOS version, PSU (brand and model, Wattage), OC on CPU, cooler?
Did you try without the graphics card?
Try >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
Also leave HDD/SSD that has OS on it, disconnect the rest.

  • GTX 970 + MSI Gaming 5 Z97 No post.

Hopefully someone can help me out.
I am trying to use a brand new MSI Gaming 5 z97 mb with a Msi GTX 970 4G video card  and have run into an issue. I can boot the system with the integrated video with no issue but if I put the card into the system I barely get a flash of power when I press the power button. The system will not even post.
I am using an AX 650 Corsair PSU, also brand new, I replace the old AX 650 Corsair PSU as part of the troubleshooting.
Any ideas? I am really loathe to RMA this card and be out of decent video for x days / weeks.
    Thanks!

Did you try to clear CMOS?
Are you able to test different graphics card in your system? Ask a friend or a neighbour for this.
What if you try single RAM stick?
Also: inspect CPU socket looking for bent pins. Use magnifying glass and bright light, or take close and accurate photos and then inspect those. (I suggest this before last part)
You could try to update to BIOS 1.9
    http://www.msi.com/support/mb/Z97-GAMING-5.html#down-bios
Make sure to use MFlash+ME Update. And follow the instructions on the website. Make sure that the system is stable (so best with single RAM stick and without the graphics card).

Sound does not come from speaker's, but form the board itself.

That... Sorry, just watched it, as I didn't do it before.
It's quite normal (I'd say). In my case, it comes through headphones. Disable/disconnect all headphones/speakers (sound based devices) and see if it occurs again.
It doesn't always happen but think it's some like power discharge when suddenly my headphones lose power (yes USB+Jack) they just go like so.
Yes! That was it, it's when I have a USB headset/speakers in. Ah, you legend. My mind is at rest now. Thank you.

  • MSI Gaming 5 USB ports issue

    Hello everyone,
I apologize if I posted this in the wrong section, so as the title says it, sorta of a huge USB ports issue just happened after installing the motherboard / windows / all drivers, even restarted a few times
then tested the processor and video card.
Everything ok to that point, I left the pc opened for 3 hours, shut it down, the next day..I couldn't type the windows password.
Alright restart, that maybe one of those kinks that goes away on it's own I guess..Switched each device in different ports..nothing, tried only one device..still nothing.
Tried only usb2.0 ports then 3.0 port > a a little panic kicked in :D
So, in my bios I was seeing 2 keyboards 2 mice..ok...got a bios update from msi site..latest one..flash ..reboot..still nothing.
Strange part was..they were working just fine in bios and everything prior to windows loading, even after that mouse was showing power ( led was ok )but no functionality.
Safe mode didn't help..the miracle of last known good config saved the day.
BUT after choosing the option..ok it started working....randomly..I was typing the windows pass...and right in the middle ...it stopped again..mouse was working...tried again..stopped at 75% of the password.
Tried again...it worked > Reinstalled every driver.. seems stable for now, though being day 2 of this whole deal.
So if anyone honors me with enough time to read the story and maybe relate I would glady appreciate it.
Guys if anyone had any usb related incidents with any of the Z97Gaming boards please share
If I missed anything, please ask.
    Thank you

    Hello everyone,
Sorry for the delay in all of this and thank you for the input.
Specs are below, and this is something currently in the process of being upgraded.
    I7 4790k / MSI Gaming 5 / Sirtec 500W / 8 gb ram  Corsair Vengeance / AMD sapphire 7970 GHZ / one single HDD 1 GB
The Windows installation went fine on 2 other colleagues from work.
For the moment stable, I removed and reinstalled all USB related drivers.
It was a weird one though..

  • MSI 790FX-GD70 Overclocking Major Issue

Hi guys, I recently purchased the AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition and the MSI 790FX-GD70 motherboard. My current bios version is the v1.1, and it came together with the motherboard.
In Windows, I am easily able to go to from 3.2Ghz to 3.8Ghz by increasing the stock voltage to 1.43V and the multiplier to 18 - 18.5. This is using AMD Overdrive. Stablity tests show everything is good.
After starting windows and implementing these settings into the bios, I realised that whenever I changed the multiplier in the BIOS, (CPU Ratio), the bios ceases to load after restarting, and my monitor shows a 'No Signal' message, which I am guessing that the bios does not even load. I have no problems changing the CPU Voltage or the BUS Speed, but whenever I touch the CPU Ratio, this problem persists.
I believe the default multiplier is 16x. Even when I keep it at 16x, it still gives me this problem.
What is the issue here? Do I require a bios update?

Fish it out, do not use Live Update

  • MSI Gaming 7 z97 audio crackling and noisy

Hi everyone. Today i start my PC but no sound. I turn up volume and then there was lots of cracking and popping. Was like interference or something.
Yesterday all was fine so i don't know why. I didn't update any driver, install program, or anything. The sound is bad also in the back port. I use stereo headphones btw.
I've already tried to unistall and reinstalla driver, tried it under ubuntu (i use Win 8.1), with and without audio boost, other headphones, different audio tracks and audio program, Youtube, secondary bios, disconnecting front audio.
What can i do? Audio only works with AMD driver on my monitor via HDMI, but not with headphones. Do you think that my onboard audio is broken?
I'm pretty frutrated about it, this is my second mobo, the first one has BIOS issue, i hope that RMA won't be necessary but...
    Can you help me?

Already tried with clearing cmos and even with secondary bios, but it happened suddently. Saturday it works, on sunday no. Inside my case is clear, i've cleared it some weeks ago. Some dust, but nothing special.
Strange thing is that both front and back doesn't works. It was untouched because i went to bed and then when i woke up it just doesn't work.
I'll try outside but seems strange though. If i've made some change it would be ok, but in this case i don't know what to think. Ghosts?
It isn't windows, because elsewere ubuntu would work, but it doesn't. Isn't bios, isn't case cable, isn't any program...
This is my second faulty Gaming 7..

  • MSI Gaming 5 Z97 White

It's just a simple and quick question. But does anyone know where to get this edition?
    Cheers!

This colour scheme for this motherboard doesn't exist. If any motherboard from MSI is B&W, it has "Krait Edition" added to its name.
You may have not seen but someone also made a green version of Z87 Gaming one

  • MSI Gaming 5 Z97 CPUFAN2 header pwm?

    Hi,
Can i use the second cpu fan header to control a pwm fan all the way down to 12.5%? I currently don't have any PWM fans to use and I don't think i can control 3 pins from it at all?
    thanks,

Quote from: Nichrome on 26-December-14, 04:28:27
    Hi,
CPUFAN header indeed requires 4 (pwm) fan otherwise 3 pin will run @100% all the time.
Not sure if you can go down to 12.5%, but surely down to 25%.
That would explain everything. Thanks a lot Nichrome, i can now safely buy a higher rpm fan without worrying about being able to slow it down enough.
    Merry Christmas

  • MSI Gaming 7 Optical out issue

I appear to have developed this issue on my 1 month old board.  I am getting sporadic (mostly no) sound from the optical output.  I've tried a new cable to no avail.  Any ideas?

Quote from: HenryW on 22-February-15, 08:13:31
There is not any co-ax S/PDIF on that MB so you don't have that option for digital audio. It would be nice if people making suggestions that are impossible to do do a bit of research 1st.
If you re-read the question, I said 'if there is one instead'? I wasn't sure. It was a suggestion.
If you have a better suggestion, why not suggest it? If you don't have anything constructive to add, then you might want to go re-read the rules. >>Please read and comply with the Forum Rules.<<

  • MSI Gaming 5 Z97 00 Error Code after Bios Flash

Was using a USB for bios flash through the uefi bios. I chose ME flash, and it flashed ME then rebooted and then flashed the bios and then it finally rebooted but to a black screen. Here are the standard BIOS codes. http://www.ami.com/support/doc/AMI_Aptio_4.x_Status_Codes_PUB.pdf
codes in the 50s are memory related. Codes in the 40s (pure numerics are not part of the current AMI status codes.
Without knowing whether a screen has been connected and what is displayed on the screen, we don't know at what stage the post/BIOS boot is in. That 45 could well be the CPU temp at this stage
Initial system build should have been done outside the case with one mem module, HDD (i.e. barebones) only to ensure everything starts up, at least into the BIOS. Only then is it time to mount the MB in the case. Makes life much easier to fault trace.

  • Ram compatibility on gaming 3 z97 MB

Hey guys, i am going to buy MSI Gaming 3 (Z97) and there is in specifications this
    Memory DDR3: 1066/1333/1600/1866*/2000*/2133*/2200*/2400*/2600*/2666*/2800*/3000*/3100*/3200*/3300*(*OC) MHz
i wonder if i could mount following memmory in this board without any problems in compatibility or bottlenecking
Memmory: Corsair 8GB KIT DDR3 1866MHz CL9 Red Vengeance Low Profile
    Thanks for help

    Hi,
Should be no problem with this RAM. Though as mentioned by the spec, anything above 1600MHz is OC which is not guaranteed by MSI it will work (it's CPU memory controller and RAM compatibility debate rather than motherboard)
Though I am happy owner of Corsair RAM that is apparently 1600MHz (on the box) but runs flawlessly at 2133MHz

  • New z97 G45 Gaming board with big issues

    Hi guys,
Don't know if I am posting in the wrong spot but I recently bought a new CPU and to go with it I purchased a z97 G45 Gaming board however I'm currently having issues. Before I talk about the issues I'll just state my build:
    CPU: i5-4690k
    MB: z97 G45 Gaming
    GPU: Gigabyte GTX 770
    After market cooler: Noctua NH-DH14
PSU: Silverstone Strider Gold 850W ST85F-GS
Ram: 8GBx2 Kingston Hyperx Blu 1600
    Case: Aerocool X-Predator Case - Black/Orange
So the issue is when I press the power button everything turns on like it should except any fans connected to the motherboard will not work. Everything plugged into the fan controller that comes with the case works fine. However the weird thing is when the computer is about to turn off the fans connected the motherboard will start working for a few seconds and then go off with everything else.
Another large problem is that no video is being outputted from the GPU or on board graphics. I know the GPU is at least getting power since the fans are spinning on it. Also the fans connected to the CPU are working fine since they'll actually power.
I'm pretty sure I've done everything right. I installed all the brass mounts correctly and the cooler is in the right spot. I've tried taking out the CMOS battery and waiting a few minutes. I've also tried removing the GPU and ram to try and even get beeps, still no luck. I can't really think of anything else to do so I came here hoping any of you might be able to help.
    Thanks for reading this,
    Dyltom.

No beeps with no RAM installed is not a good indication of system health, neither is it not getting graphics when using the onboard. Recommend to remove the system from the case and attempt to run it in a 'barebones' configuration on a piece of plain cardboard or untreated wood.

  • MSI Gaming app causing issues. GTX 770 GPU.

I bought my MSI 770 card back in August and over the last few weeks I have noticed a problem. At random times my browser will get some strange pixels and closing the browser does not fix it. I have narrowed he problem down to the MSI Gaming App. I use this app when I play games and always overclock with this app. Lately I have been playing BF4. I noticed my BF4 game crashes less when I don't use the app as well.
In order for my browser (Chrome) to function properly again I have to close out of the MSI Gaming app. Does this mean my card is failing? I am about to buy my 2nd MSI 770 here in a week or two and would like to get this sorted out before hand.
Here is a pic of the browser after the problem occurs. My sig has specs.
    Thanks

if you don't use this app. do you have such issues?
Good question. I always use this app so my time spent not using it is very little. I will stop using it starting now and see if I have this problem at all this weekend. Typically this happens daily so we shall see.
