Msi gaming app update almost cooked my cpu

Hello just updated my gaming app through live update to 4.0.0.05 and I have my h100i fans plugged into motherboard. I have set my own fan curve up in bios.but after I updated gaming app started to play some gta v and looked over to my tower and the temps for cpu were a lot higher than normal. So I had a feel or the rad was very hot looked at the fans completely stopped. So opened control center to see and try and set fans up. Set them up using fan tune. Got fans back going then went in to bios to check my fan setting there all at the original setting I had put in. So thought I would just warn others I case it happens to them

It's not a PSU issue either, i have a Supernova G2 750w and it never happend before i got the Control Center and it haven't happend after i turned off the autorun on startup.
Im playing Bf4/A little bit Hardline/Gta V/ and a lot more games but thoose 3 games is the most demanding ones.

  • MSI Gaming APP for X99 Gaming 7 Not displaying properly

I have installed and removed and installed again the MSI Gaming App.  But when I run it each time, I keep getting the same issue.  When I launch the MSI Gaming App, a white box appears in the middle of the screen with a single word "Canvas" written on it.  The only thing you can do with this is close it by pressing OK.  The program itself opens in the bottom right corner of the screen and the box is only partially displayed.  It is like half the app has been cut off.  The only button accessible in the top right is the info button, while the other two next to it have been cur off.  Similarly, the only boxes showing are the top part of OC, Gaming, and the left half of Silent.
Please advise if this is a known issue or if there is a fix.  Yes, I am using the latest version of the APP - 2.0.0.21 that i downloaded using Live Update 6.  I am running Win 7 Home Premium 64bit with all the latest updates and a 5930K with Twin GTX Titan Blacks with 16gig of ram and the latest nVidia Driver 347.09

Thanks!!  I downloaded the latest version of the gaming App and it works great.  The problem I am having now is that MSI Live Update appears not to be seeing the latest versions of many apps, utilities and drivers.  I have the latest version of live update installed.  6.0.012
For example, I have Killer Network Drivers 1.1.42 1045 installed and Live Update says this is the latest version.  But on the web site, it says 1.1.49 1068 is the latest version.
Any Ideas why Live Update is not finding the latest info for my drivers etc... ??

  • MSI Gaming App Will NOT Start

If this is the wrong forum I apologize, I didn't see any other place for topics about MSI software.
When my PC starts, the MSI Gaming App doesn't start automatically, I have to manually start it by double-clicking the icon on the desktop. However, it is a crap shoot if the program will even run; usually it doesn't and I have to completely restart my computer and cross my fingers. I've re-installed, updated, etc., but it keeps doing this. Any help would be fantastic.

    Are you mixing RAM?
Did the software ever worked before? Try to uninstall it (Programs&Features), remove any folders and registry files that Gaming App have made (you can also use CCleaner to clear registry errors). Then reboot and try to install+run Gaming App again. What was the version you have tried? From the CD included with the card or from MSI website? If possible, tell exact version.

  • MSI gaming app and GTX760

After latest update for my MSI twin frozr gtx760, when i start MSI gaming app and turn gaming mode i get blue screen. I rly don't know what to do. Anyone else got some bad experience with it?

I have the latest version of the Gaming App. I am using the current driver for this card from the MSI download section for this card. So Nvidia prohibited putting more than 3Gb on a 780? That is depressing and frustrating. I got this card because I enjoy PC gaming on big monitors with high resolutions (not 1080P TV's) and I figured the high VRAM would help run games at high settings on the kinds of monitors I prefer. I was gaming on a 30" Samsung monitor @2560x1600 and now I am using a 34" 21:9 LG monitor @3440x1440. I'm starting to get a bit of a feeling like I wasted my money buying this card. I mean Nvidia is going to poopoo all over having extra VRAM on a 780, the MSI Gaming App won't work for an MSI card and even MSI Afterburner won't read the VRAM correctly on this MSI card.
Oh well, it's the card's fault and the card seems to run alright, but it doesn't seem to be running much better than the 3Gb EVGA 780 that the 6Gb card replaced. I am starting to wonder if I am not getting the best performance out of the card that I should.

  • Gtx 980 MSi Gaming App Clock speed problem

Hello guys, I've a problem with my GPU's clock speed.
I've MSI Z97-Gaming 5 motherboard, and MSI gtx 980 4g twinfrozr so both of this hardware uses the MSI gaming APP.
But the thing is when i pick Gaming Mode or OC Mode it works well for my CPU BUT! not for my GPU, it always at 962Mhz it barely goes to 1190 and comes right back.
When i check the site it says:
1216MHz Core (Boost Clock:1317MHz) (OC Mode)
1190MHz Core (Boost Clock:1291MHz) (Gaming Mode)
1127MHz Core (Boost Clock:1216MHz) (Silent Mode)
you can see the actual core speeds but 962 mhz is not even there ?
if anybody has an idea I'd really appreciate that.

OK the problem was solved by loading an older version of the MSI gaming App from the Dvd . Now it is selected as " let the 3d app decide " at the nvidia control panel, and when im in game it goes up to 1368 Mhz and when im on desktop it goes down to 135 Mhz .

Hi I have the same card and get the same error.  I have Win 7 ultimate 64bit with sp1.  It was working yesterday then I formatted my computer and now I can not get it to run.  I downloaded the latest catalyst drivers and still get the same.  I then downloaded older version of gaming app then instead I get an error " update VGA driver".
Thing is it has trouble running 3dark 2011 unless I only run the benchmark components and up the fan with afterburner to 100%.  I wanted to set it in OC and see if it can't run 3DMark successfully so thats why I'm trying to get this software to run as it is easy.
which msi game app. you are now using?
    S/N of your card..?
and which one version before OS re-install?
vga driver versions? [before and after OS re-install]

  • [290x] MSI Gaming App error "The platform does not support this application."

Using the latest AMD Omega drivers, I am unable to launch the Gaming App and am presented with this error -  "The platform does not support this application."
I have tried downloading Gaming APP 3.0.0.16.zip from another post on the topic but I am receiving the same error. The only other thing I've seen as a 'solution' is to install the drivers from the MSI support page for my card - however this is version 14.4 and is over 3 months old, I don't really think that's a viable solution.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Is your vga driver 14.12? Any other settings changed?
Do you have any other msi or vga software installed?
Can you do a fresh re-install OS and what's the language of your OS?
Yes, Catalyst Omega. No other software or hardware changes.
Yes MSI Afterburner. Have tried uninstalling and installing gaming app, have also not had it running when trying to launch MSI Gaming app. No joy there.
No I can't, that's not really an option for a piece of software like this which worked before but doesn't since the latest AMD driver updates.
    Quote from: JLio01 on 07-January-15, 16:07:38
Since your motherboard is not the supported gaming series mobos, there might be something detected wrong with your card. The error message shown if neither motherboard nor vga is supported in Gaming App. I suggest use AMD Catalyst Clean Uninstall Utility to totally uninstall the current driver:
    http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/16748/
and re-install the latest driver 14.12. I have no problem using Gaming App 3.0.0.16 with my R9 290X, hope you too.
I have never seen anything stating that you need a supported gaming series motherboard to use the MSI Gaming App - maybe for other features if it has any, but the gaming app I used when I got my card was a little box with a few options for the GPU on it. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver already unfortunately, using both AMD CCUU and a second attempt with DDU. No change at all, the exact same error message.
But as I've said, the fact that there is more than one person reporting this and older drivers make the gaming app work, it's definitely a software ended problem on certain configurations. I have installed driver 14.4 now and can once again use the gaming app, just as someone with a different card and different motherboard has stated in another thread. xxhttps://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=251885.0xx this solution however is not really acceptable.

  • Can I use the MSI Gaming App OC settings in Afterburner then uninstall Gaming Ap

    Hello all,
I finally bought an MSI GTX 760 TF OC Gaming Edition GPU last week. Unfortunately the OC isn't programmed into the BIOS and to get the highest Factory OC I need to use the MSI Gaming App. The problem is it does not start with Windows or remember your last Clock Selection.
I know Afterburner can start with Windows and apply your last selected profile.
    So can I......
    1. Open Gaming App and select OC.
Open GPU-Z and see how much the Clock Speed has increased.
     Restore the default Clock (Gaming).
Open Afterburner and apply the same increase to the clock value as the Gaming App gave me.
    Save the profile.
Tick the 'Start with Windows' box.
     Uninstall the Gaming App.
    2. Will the above effectively apply the same OC as the gaming App and therfore make the Gaming App obsolete?
    3. Also I've read on some forums that Afterburner will only OC the MSI card if the gaming App is installed. I'm away from home so cannot test any of this. Maybe this was the case with the original version of the gaming app. can anyone confirm?
    4. Also I've read people reporting that once the OC has been applied it is locked at this high clock and doesn't downclock when idle. From what I've seen the Gaming App does downclock depending on GPU demand. As does Afterburner. Can anyone confirm?
I don't know why MSI did things this way. It's a Gaming Edition card so there should be a way of applying the factory OC and leaving it set that way. The Gaming App is a nice simple little tool but as a bare minimum they should let us start it with Windows and automatically apply the last selected Clock profile.
Dragging the shortcut into the start-up folder doesn't work for me. And even if it did, the last profile selection is not remembered.
To be honest, the Gaming App is ideal for me but only if I can set it and forget it. There should be a box (like there is in Afterburner) that starts the Gaming App when Windows starts and applies the last Clock profile selected.
Now that would be simple. Afterburner is great and gives you lots of control. But I just want the OC that MSI have created. It should be set at BIOS level for a so-called OC Gaming Edition card.
From the official Afterburner Guide on this forum....
"Another thing which needs to be kept in mind is that maximum clockrates for the latest GeForce GTX7xx Gaming requires running >>Gaming APP<<. Switch to Gaming Mode (N770 TF 2GD5/OC (GeForce GTX 770 GAMING)) or OC Mode (N780 TF 3GD5/OC (GeForce GTX 780 GAMING)) to allow maximum boost clockrates."
    Many thanks in advance,

Sure you can set these settings (clock rate etc) in afterburner and you should be good to go. Just for stability, run a benchmark. It should be same OC as Gaming App applies, but GApp might change voltages (never used it so not sure).
Afterburner works with ANY brand's card. However MSI Gaming App not.
However if you change settings in Nvidia control panel in : 3D settings -> Global Settings -> Power management mode -> change from Adaptive to Prefer max performance. After this card will neved downclock even at idle.

  • MSI Gaming App Not Working - Fails to open after install - Want to use OC mode

Hi, well today I just recovered my GPU from a near fry using MSI Afterburner. Luckily, with help from a moderator on this site, I was able to get it working again. I thought I fried it trying to OC it. I simply want to be able to switch between the modes it is supposed to come with. I have a MSI R9 290, and it is supposed to be equiped with 3 easy "one click" toggling between OC modes, 1007MHz, Gaming mode, 974MHz, and Silent Mode, 947MHz.
I cannot figure out how to switch between these modes. I used Afterburner and nearly fried my card. I was told not to use that, that is for advanced users, to use instead the (supposed to be bundled, but was not included in my install) MSI Gaming App, to easily switch between the 3 different modes. I downloaded the MSI Gaming App (http://download.msi.com/uti_exe/gamingApp.zip) and installed it. When I tried to run it I get this error:
    ======
    [MSI Gaming App]
The platform does not support this application
    (OK)
    ======
So what does this mean, that the Gaming App is not supported by Windows 7 64Bit Professional (which is what I have)?
Am I doing something wrong, did I install the wrong application. I could not find any others however.
So I damn near fried my GPU trying to use Afterburner to OC my GPU, and I am very hesitant to try using it again. At this point, I have not even reinstalled Afterburner as I fear it might, just by installing, screw me up again.
What should I do, is there anything I CAN do?
Please help this noob- Thanks for your help!
    -Kris

based on S/N the card is generic, AMD reference one
those cards don't have factory OC:

  • MSI Gaming app causing issues. GTX 770 GPU.

I bought my MSI 770 card back in August and over the last few weeks I have noticed a problem. At random times my browser will get some strange pixels and closing the browser does not fix it. I have narrowed he problem down to the MSI Gaming App. I use this app when I play games and always overclock with this app. Lately I have been playing BF4. I noticed my BF4 game crashes less when I don't use the app as well.
In order for my browser (Chrome) to function properly again I have to close out of the MSI Gaming app. Does this mean my card is failing? I am about to buy my 2nd MSI 770 here in a week or two and would like to get this sorted out before hand.
Here is a pic of the browser after the problem occurs. My sig has specs.
    Thanks

if you don't use this app. do you have such issues?
Good question. I always use this app so my time spent not using it is very little. I will stop using it starting now and see if I have this problem at all this weekend. Typically this happens daily so we shall see.

    Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit

I have set the brightness of my monitor to 20 and the standard Gaming settings in the app are way to bright. I use the customized settings configured to my own preference but it won't keep the settings. When I restart my computer and open the MSI Gaming App the customized settings are back to normal. Is there maybe some config file, searched for it also in appdata to no reveal, which I can set on read only after set to my preferences

Unfortunately the Gamin App has no option to set preferences permanently so far. There is also no workaround for the App. Alternatively use >>MSI Afterburner<< for clockrate/fan settings and use the driver menu to alter brightness settings permanently.
