I tried to flash this one : w8_E16GCIMS.617.zip
But i got the error message that the romid is not compatible with existing bios romid.
Why do i get this error? Do i need to update the EC 1st and then the bios?
Thanks

For now I would sit tight on flashing the BIOS or the EC. There seems to be an issue with it right now and we are trying to work with MSI to get it sorted out.

  • MSI GE60 2OC-014NE - Install Windows 7 or 8 on new hard drive

    Hi forum
So I just bought the new MSI GE60. I installed my hybrid harddrive in it easily. Now I wanted to install a fresh windows 7 on it. Is it possible?
And if not, how do I install a fresh windows 8 on it, without spending extra money on the OS? Windows 8 came with the laptop, but without a disk.
And what is your opinion? Should I use windows 8 or 7 on it? (I really hate the looks and feel of windows 8.. It's way more complicated and non-user-friendly than 7..)
I hope you can help me out
    Best regards
    Aleksander

The least problems would be installing Win8 a it came with it (your key is embedded in the bios by the way) but I'd also prefer Win7. According to MSI downgrading to 7 should work with the EC of the Win8 version. As drivers and utilities are available for this model and Win7 it should work: http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GE60-2OC.html#download
Be sure to install DotNetFX40Client and SCM as that is needed to make the machine work properly.

  • MSI GE60 0ND Bios

    Hi Everyone,
    I got the MSI GE60 0ND which comes with 8GB Ram (2x4GB).
    I have upgraded the ram with Corsair 16GB (2 x 8GB) PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 SODIMM RAM - 9-9-9-24.
The problem i am facing now is that i am getting BSoD (Blue Screen) about memory.
I think this is because i need to setup the Mhz to 1600 in the Bios?
Now the problem comes with the Bios it has installed, as it must be locked.
I can't find any setting available there and i don't know what to do...
    Bios Version: E16GAIMS.108
    EC Version: 16GAEMS1 Ver4.04
    OS: Windows 7
    CC: GTX 660M
    CPU: i7-3610QM
Can someone please guide me through what i need to do?
    Thanks in advance.

Usually it is as simple as rock but looking at how many people do not follow this I believe it must be in Sticky thread.
    1. If you have any problem then update your Firmware (4.05) and BIOS (10F)
    2. Don't forget to power drain or reset EC.
More than 50% of people get this advice on this forum so I guess t must be a big banner, not even just a sticky thread.
By the way quick googling your question moves to a youtube video where RAM can be overclocked.
Although I don't think that you can use it because:
    a) Corsair sticks (especially 8GB) do not overclock well;
    b) I guess you don't need it. Check CPU-z to see actual timings and frequency.

  • MSI GE60 2OC-225NL

    Hello,
    I bought the GE60 2OC-225NL laptop.
On the site it shows pictures of a keybord with backlight.
When i press the button in the top left corner (next to fan) nothing happends.
I reinstalled Windows 8 Pro on my machine because i wanted a clean install.
I read something about the backlight not working on this laptop?
First thing comes to mind: Why does it have the button for it?
Also im going to upgrade BIOS and Firmware, do i have to do this in a certain order? (first BIOS then Firmware?)
Also it shows a warning on the website, something about Windows 7 BIOS etc (same for Firmware)
How do i know if i can flash the BIOS and Firmware supported for Windows 8.1 (wich i have installed now).
    Thanks!
    Greetings,
    Arjan

Also when i have my laptop plugged in to the power (is full charged 100%) my power led is blinking blue/orange.
Is this supposed to happen? > Btw where can i find a manual for my specific MSI laptop?
I hope someone can answer these questions.
I found the manual and it says:
    - This keyboard is equipped with flash keyboard LEDs which
    are mounted beneath the keyboard.
    - Press this button repeatedly to recurrently switch the
keyboard LED on; or set the keyboard LED illumination to
Gaming Mode; or switch the keyboard LED off.
    So, where are my lights?

Why did you update it 4 times?
    What OS are you using?
A little more information and a better explanation would get you an answer much quicker.

  • MSI GE60 2OC Windows 7 x64 USB 3.0 eXtensible Host

    Hi,
I have another problem with my MSI GE60.
I have installed Windows 7 x64, updated everything and installed driver.
At last I installed the USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller driver from the msi homepage. But now my usb ports aren't working anymore!
I tried different driver and deleted them in safe mode from windows.
    Help? ...
    Thanks in advance

I just posted a similar issue on the same machine, except my USB ports will only work under certain circumstances. It's very odd and it sounds like a driver issue... Did you ever get it sorted out?

  • MSI GE70 2OC BIOS update questions

Hi all, I have the GE70 2OC model with a Windows 7 installed on a HDD drive.
I want to replace the HDD for SSD and install Windows 8.1.
I thought that I might use this opportunity to update BIOS because that was recommended to me to fix throttling issues while gaming. But here is where I have a problem. On this site:
    http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GE70-2OC.html#down-bios
there are different versions to choose and I don't know which one to choose. Right now I have the E1757IMS.509 version.
There is a warning not to crossflash the bios, for example from Win 7 version to Win 8 version because it may result in bricking the system.
    1. But which one do I have now? Is it the Win7 or Win8 version? I only know the number that I wrote above... Could you tell me which one to choose?
    2. Should I update the BIOS before replacing the disk and installing system or after?
    3. Maybe I should firstly replace the disk, install Windows 8.1 and then update the BIOS version to the one dedicated for Win 8.1?
    4. Which tool should I use to flash the BIOS so that the ME and EC firmware is also updated? Or is it a separate thing to do? I've read the stickies in BIOS section of forum but I'm completely confused, in every post there is something else written or recommended.
    5. Does it even make sense to update the BIOS? I mean, will it actually help with the throttling or was I wrongly informed? (I was told to do that by the moderator of Polish MSI forum but it doesn't make much sense to me...).
Thank you for your help in advance.

.5xx is the right one for your NB, .51E is latest one:

if you planing to install/reinstall OS,
install new BIOS 1st before OS is better

use flash instructions included in .txt file inside archive, etc:
    http://www.msi.com/files/pdf/Flash_BIOS_by_UEFI_BIOS_Setup_Utility_en.pdf
about EC its separate update, but can't advice since i don't your current EC version

  • MSI GE60 0ND BIOS and EC Request

My System (GE60 0ND-228XTH) came with FreeDos pre-installed.
    BIOS Version: E16GAIMS.10F
    BIOS Build:     12/18/2012 15:20:43
    EC Version:    16GAEMS Ver4.04
    EC Build:        04/26/2012
The real need of this request is to fix the Wireless Connection Drop issue (happens randomly or after waking up) occurred in Windows 8 OS.
    I have tried ...
      - Every combination of BIOS/EC that are provided in the official MSI page and compatible with my System.
      - Every SCM that is compatible with Windows 8 OS.
      - Any solution about Connection Drop issue in Windows 8 OS.
    but still no luck.
The best bet is to use
     - E16GAIMS.10F   BIOS
     - 16GAEMS1.505  EC
Though the problem still persist, the frequency of occurrence is less than other approaches.
Since this above EC firmware is for Windows 8 System, so this is not the best workaround for my system.
That is why my assumption came up with BIOS/EC and made this request.
This problem is NEVER shown in the Windows 7 OS and any Linux Distributions.
Also, can you add any updates possible for BIOS and EC.
I will make a donation as soon as possible after your confirmation.
    Thank in advance.
Edit: Added Current BIOS Configuration Screen.

its probably wifi driver related or something specified for win8
    try different wifi drivers
I already tried many drivers from the MSI itself, Intel, even other Notebook Manufacturers, but still not working.
I have tested Windows 8 in my friend's notebook(DELL) that has similar Wireless Adapter and everything working fine without issues like mine, so that means Windows 8 is not the culprit.

try set wifi to max performance from power profiles
This is one of solutions I've tried long ago and it failed.
    Anyway, thank for your response.

  • MSI GE40-2OC Bios Compatiable with MS-1492 Barebones?

    Hello,
I'm in the need of some help from the MSI team. I've recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 and have been experiencing BSOD's when using the laptops Bluetooth/WiFi. I tried formatting and doing a fresh install ensuring all the drivers were up to date however this was of no help.
I came across a few posts on forums that suggested this is a BIOS/Firmware problem and an update would fix it. Upon checking my BIOS/Firmware it seems they are infact very old (BIOS Version: E1492IG6.10H EC: 1.504), however when trying to contact the retailer they said they had no newer updates available.
Can I flash the non-barebones BIOS/Firmware found on the MSI Support page on my barebones system and if not can anyone direct me to the latest versions of both for my barebones system?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
I contacted MSI as you suggested and they said they cannot provide barebones BIOS/EC's and only provide official MSI ones.
With both my retailer and MSI not being able to help I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do
Yeah, it's a really crappy situation. I'd put pressure on the retailer....that's your best bet at this point.

  • MSI GE60 OND bios isue

    Hello guys,
Let put this clear, i messed up.
I had windows 7 pre-installed and i wanted to try some Vbios modded, but i wasnt hapy with it, so i decided to go back with my stock bios... there the problems began
The guy on the forum (a french forum, portable4gamer ) put the stock vbios from a windows 8 edition, the E16GAIMS.514 in the stock win7 folder, so i flashed uefi and i am with the win 8 bios in a win 7 machine.
It could have been ok but now my brightness is locked, i can move the cursor and use the FN buttons but nothing happens, it is locked in middle brightness i'd say.
    So here are my questions:
    1. Is it possible to go back to win 7 bios E16GAIMS.10F (i think it is not, but who knos...)
    2. the mst important, how can i unlock the brightness???
My drivers are updated, i also tried to uninstall them and then i reinstalled but no changes...
Please guys help me   (if you can of course)
    Ps: sorry for my english

It is possible to go back to the Win7 Bios....although I'm not sure how you'd go about doing it. Talk to Svet, as he is the bios master on the forums.

  • MSI GE60, Windows 8: Windows Update stuck at 0KB downloaded and disk at 100%

So I'm having 2 problems with this laptop.
First my disk is most of the time at 100% active time which results in a lag and maybe it will damage the HDD. Here's a pic: http://i.imgur.com/c5tAx8N.png
On the other hand I think this problem is a common Windows 8 bug which can be solved just by updating, but turns out I can't. When I try to update this is what happens: http://i.imgur.com/qPB3HHm.png It says that it's downloading but it gets stuck at 0% and 0KB downloaded. I left it opened for more than an hour and it didn't download a thing. I've tried to run the troubleshooter and in repaired some problems and said something about problems downloading not fixed.
How can I solve this issue? I've tried resetting the laptop but the problem is there from the beginning.

I had the same problem also. I was updating the windows 8 thing and looked for a update and there it was. I accepted and I was stuck for like 15 minutes on 0kb download and my disk was on 100% and lagging ofc. after the 15mins it glitched to 98% done and downloaded like 150mb of crap. apparently if the disk is in use then the windows 8 is downloading the update but its just not showing up. wait a bit and see make sure you have a good connection or else it takes FOREVER. if you already had these disk problems, try to check if a regular windows defrag, maintaencne crap is running. these are automatic and only YOU can turn them off. I hate them and I make my own maintence and defrag.

  • Hard drive swapping issue GE60 2OC

So i bought this new MSI GE60 2OC laptop and the only rly negative point with it is its HDD, cause I'm used to SSD now.
Thus i decided to upgrade the laptop with my SSD from my old laptop which is an OCZ agility 3 240g. So i plug it in my laptop nothing goes wrong just like i have done it before.
Then i start the laptop and it goes straight into bios menu where you set boot option and such, fine i thought and checked if it was in ACHI mode,
so i saved and exited then after i saved and exited it rebooted and went to the same bios boot menu again. now i got nervous and check all the setting and they were correct and it keeps looping like this every time u exit it the menus.
tried several boot option and switch to legacy from UEFI then it booted but dunno if it is the correct way to do it .
So i swapped it back to UEFI to get it back for my HDD.(Legacy boot thing might be the correct way pls say if that works, cause haven't red into it that much yet).
Now i thought it was broken so i switched back to the HDD and it worked perfectly and i tried the same thing with my dads SSD an samsung SSD Basic 840-Series 250GB
but got the same loop and have searched forums and so on but i have no clue why it get stuck there, it's like the laptop don't find the SSD in bios only the HDD. Any ideas of how i should proceed would be awesome.

    Hello Odeen,
I assume you have the HDD plugged out/removed when you have your SSD inserted in the laptop? If you have plugged it in, try setting the boot order in the BIOS to HDD first!
If you have your HDD unplugged, you are not using an MSATA but just the Sata 3 for the SSD because you only have 1 SATA slot right? The SSD doesn't have the proper Windows files and/or proper boot files to boot to Windows, therefore it boots into the boot menu (I think) You should take an bootable USB/DVD (DVD is recommended) and put the bios into UEFI mode for a Windows 8 DVD or you should put it in LEGACY mode when installing Windows 7, for Windows 7 install it's a bit harder but I have a tutorial on that topic on this forum... Let's say that you're going to install Windows 8: go to the bios and turn off secure boot and fast boot and enable the boot mode in UEFI, boot the Windows 8 DVD in UEFI mode (when seeing the MSI logo press F11) and select the boot device in the Boot Menu, now your Windows 8 Installer should load the Windows files. Select your SSD (do not format it in Windows so if you haven't done a format yet go make a Parted Magic bootable USB/DVD and do a secure-erase on the SSD (tons of tutorials about that on the interwebz) Now install Windows 8 on your SSD and there you go, Windows 8 installed on your SSD in UEFI mode. Everything should work fine from then...
    Hope I helped you out!

  • MSI GE60 modified ec

Hi, I would like to request something similar to this author https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=175803.0
Modified ec firmware with lowest fan speed changed to value 28 instead of 30 (i changed value with RWEverything and it works, but its just temporary), so its more quiet when idle.
    WEC 0x72 0x28
    Other speeds are fine.
