MSI GE60 power supply size

Hello everybody. This is my first post in this forum.
I have recently purchased a MSI GE60 laptop.
I'm a bit disappointed of the materials and robustness of the laptop, but not much, just a little.
What really disapoints me is the size of the power supply. It's about 5 times bigger than the one from my Lenovo laptop purchased 2 years ago!
I have tried to insert a picture or a link to it, but I'm not allowed :(
I would like to replace the big power supply by a smaller one. Does anyone know which brand/model would be small and fully compatible with the GE60?
brand/model are LITEON NSW23283
Thanks a lot

It should be a standard size. Measure it out, then compare with other (standard size) PSUs:
ATX: 6x3.5x5.5", HxWxD. Most common. Uses 4 mounting screws. Some more powerful models may be deeper!
Mini-ATX: 5x3.5x5", HxWxD. Rare size. Uses 4 mounting screws. Can be used in a regular ATX case, but often not the other way around.
MicroATX: 5x3x4", HxWxD. Use 3 mounting screws. Not interchangeable with ATX or miniATX.
Flex ATX: Even smaller than Micro ATX. Various sizes according to case specs; often not interchangeable.

  • KT4AV-L Power Supply size???

What size of power supply should I have for a 3000 XP chip, 1 Gig ddr ram, 2 hard drives, dvd rw  & a cd-rw drive and a KT4AV Board?  Will a 300/350 watt supply be large enough? Thanks

Looks like a nice set of components.
The max watts is only one part of needed specifications. You should check, if possible, the specifications/ampèrage for at least the 3volt, 5v, and 12v line. Then you know more of what's what... Watts, I mean.
Here is one that I'm happy with, but there is a lot of cables and such, so beware to tuck them away to the sides of the case, in case you should buy this one.

  • MSI Vox Power Supply...awesome!! PLEASE READ

    Hey,
Welll, alll I can say is anyone that's been having issues with their Vox unit....get the power supply!!!
I had sound, picture, record issue's!! Gone. Plugged in the power supply, no humming sound in the background, picture quality has improved 100%, over and above the improved picture quality of new Beta MSI PVS 3 by Stu. I wasn't able to record a program, once I setup for the recording of a program and hit the button close, the MSI PVS crashed...no more!! I say the power supply should have initially been sold with the unit, but as MSI put it. " the Vox unit was sold to be a portable device and with the power supply it is no longer portable". My answer was, "if the unit will perform the way it was manufactured to perform only with the power supply, package it with the Vox. If those in certain parts of the world do not need to use it they can simply put it aside".
Anyway, that's my 2 cent's of a possible solution to a lot ot the problems posted here.
Hope this help's a few people out!
    Cheers!!

I received it from MSI. I had sent and e-mail to sales which had been forwareded to tech support. They contacted me for address and payment info and I had it 8 days later. They sell it for $10 US and the shipping was $4.
Stu's right though. The only thing for me is my retailer wasn't able to get it for me so I contacted MSI.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

  • MSI GT680 Power Supply Issue = Performance drop

    Hello,
    I have a MSI GT680.
Recently my computer has developed fps issues with games like minecraft, LoL, dota2, etc. Which were previously very easy to run without any problems.
I believe it is something to do with the power supply, When I hover over the battery icon in the bottom right it says (plugged in, not charging)
and the computer performs the same plugged in as it does unplugged.
Ive tried to fix the (plugged in, not charging) issue but nothing has worked so far.
I just need to know if I have to buy a new charger/battery or if its just a software issue
    Thanks for your time

Check which power scheme is selected. Power scheme "balanced" will do nicely in most situations and for testing.
Check if the graphics speed (GPU/graphics memory speed) is the same in the plugged and unplugged state when running the game.
You can do this by running MSI's Afterburner software.

  • MSI GX623 power supply problem

Hello. About a year ago I bought the GX623. I just love this laptop, but few problems occured recently. When I turn on the notebook and it fully loads, the brightness keeps showing on and off like putting in or out the ac cable into the laptop(while the cable is put in the laptop and not even being touched). And the battery icon in the bottom right keeps turning into plugged in and then again into battery for a long time. This continues for about 10 mins. Then it switches to plugged in like it should be(and the brightness icon dissapears). The computer then works fine. Disconnecting and connecting the cable doesn't help during this madness. And touching the cable, moving it near the plug doesn't help. It doesn't seem to be the switch-plug problem. Also sometimes when I turn on the pc(with the cable plugged in), it doesn't keep turning into battery or plugged in versions, but just stays in the battery mode and the battery light turns red(the indicator shows that the battery is fully charged but will only last for 4 minutes). Maybe somebody had a similar problem and might now the solution? I am thinking that this is the AC adapter problem. Or maybe  it's my software? Btw I'm using Windows 7 64 bit. Thank you for the help.

Not plugged: works just fine on battery mode.
Now I took out the battery, plugged in the cable without it and the computer works just fine. But I really don't get it. It seems that when my laptop is cold, like in the morning - it starts to do these things. Like today, when I came back from work. Now when it is hot, it has no problems(like when I restart the computer or turn it on again). The other day I tried to turn on the computer without the battery, just the cable plugged in and for the first time that day(when it was cold). It didn't turn on, the battery lights just kept blinking on and off like there was bad contact. With the battery and the cable it turns on in battery mode and only after sometime switches to plugged in mode(with all that switching from one mode to another all the time like I wrote earlier).  Tomorrow morning I'm gonna try to turn it on when it's cold only with the wire(no battery). If it doesn't work - something is wrong with the AC adapter or the cpu inside... Also tomorrow I'm gonna get a similar MSI AC adapter from my cousin. If the notebook works fine with it - my AC adapter is bad. If not - cpu problem for sure.

  • MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU power supply problem

    Hello !
I am a lucky owner of MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU motherboard but have one problem. My power supply Fortron (FSP Group) 300-GT 300W seems to have some kind of incompatibility with this motherboard. In my case, the computer can't be shutted down by software. With BIOS version 2.5 it was impossible to shut it down with button too. With 2.6 it is possible to turn the computer off by button but software shutdown still don't work. PSU is working on ALL other boards I have tested so far normally. Somewhere in discussions (not in this forums) I discovered that also some kind of weird sounds occurs with Fortron supply on this board and that it is incompatible. Have anyone some clues to solve this PSU problem ? I am not able momentally to buy some other kind of PSU because Fortron is the only brand from higher category to obtain, so I would be like to solve this.....
    Thanks for any info !

PSU is powering Athlon XP 1700+ processor, the other big power consumer is GeForce4 Ti 4200 GPU. I am not able read currents for specific voltage outputs, so I am not able to measure whole power consumption. Computer is working normally, it is NOT overclocked (but it is stable overclocked too) and the only problem is PSU shutdown by software (win & linux, both of them has this problem). From BIOS v2.6 it is possible to shutdown the computer by power button. If it is tried by software, computer resets itself and three beeps occurs.

  • Burned power supply replacement (MSI GX 700)

    Hello,
My GX 700 power supply just burned tonight, it was really hot, I unplugged it and let it cool down, but it's not working anymore, I'm going to call the after sales service but, for right now, is it possible to use an other laptop powersupply ? The one I want to use is slightly different, 3,9 A unstead of 4,4 A, because it's a lower amperage than the original one, I suppose it won't hurt the laptop, am I right ?

I'm going to call after sales service today, my laptop has a 1 year warranty, so it's allright.
I was looking for a temporary solution, but after double checking, the connector is different so, It doesn't work anyway. For the powersupply, I don't know what happenned, suddenly the laptop switch to battery mode and when I checked the power supply it was really hot, it has overheat, so I deduced taht an electronic piece burned, I let it cool down and checked again, but this is not working.
MSI services will tell me what to do, thank you for the answers.
    Regards

  • Size of my Power Supply

    Hi all,
I just purchased an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition with 256mb VRAM. I own a Dual 2.0ghz G5 purchased in early 2004 with the original Radeon 9600 Pro with 64mb VRAM. Is my current power supply adequate? I can't find the information anywhere about what size my current supply is. I've read that this card needs at least a 300W power supply. Can anyone help me? Thank you.
    Tom King

Hi. The PSU rating (well - strictly speaking, power consumption) for the Original (and Best) dual 2 G5s is here
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=32486
I guess the PSU is person enough for the card at 600Watt...!
I ran a 9800pro Mac SE for a while with no problems. Good Luck.

  • Power supply for MSI 645 Ultra mother board

I need to replace the power supply for a MSI 645 Ultra mother board. I've available a switching power supply Allied model DR-B500E, that doesn't have the -5V output (infact its 20 pin ATX power supply connector has no wire in pin 18).
Can I use this power supply with the MSI 645 Ultra?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, here I am. Sorry for delay but I had some problems with the PC (as NTLDR missing).
However now is ok and I can confirm that it runs ok also with power supply without -5V output.
Thanks a lot for the support and best wishes for Christmas and new year.

  • Help a newb connect his power supply cables to the MSI Z97 XPower AC?

    My Background
I am mostly a software kind of guy, and this is my first time building a computer. I saved lots of money, did lots of research, and picked my parts.
So far, I've installed my CPU & Fan to the Motherboard, and mounted them to the case.
Now it's time to install my Power Supply. Mounting it to the case is easy. The problem comes when I have to connect the cables. The manuals don't explain the purpose of these cables or provide "step-by-step" instructions.
I've been searching for over an hour, but can't get a clear idea of what I'm supposed to do. So I'm hoping someone can help me here.
    Hardware
    Motherboard: MSI Z97 XPOWER AC
    Power Supply: Seasonic X-1250
(EDIT: Forum does not let me link to the manuals, so for anyone who needs...please look online)
    Problem
On page 29 of my motherboard manual, it shows 4 different power connection slots (JPWR1, JPWR2, JPWR3, JPWR4). Unfortunately, it doesn't explain what goes in them.
On page 59 & 61 of my Power Supply manual, there is listing of all the key cables.
I think the "Mainboard 24/20 Pin" cable goes into the "JPWR1" slot.
    - So I am mostly confused about the other slots (JPWR2, JPWR3, JPWR4).
    - Also, it's confusing that there are two CPU cables called "CPU 8/4 Pin" & "CPU 8 Pin".
    Can anyone help me?

Hi guys, I have a follow-up question about my Seasonic PSU "PCI-E cables".
The way my PCI-E cables are designed is...
There's one end which is a single cable with a 12 hole connector...that goes into the PCI-E port on my power supply.
But then the other end splits out into two different cables, with each having a sort of 6/2 connector.
So regarding the end that splits out into two different cables...
Can each be used on different PCI-E devices?
Or is it the case that because my PSU has 3 PCI-E ports (and 3 of the cables I described)...that only 3 PCI-E devices can be powered?
all can be used however you plan to use them! all them connectors are tied to a single 104amp +12v Rail so they are getting power off a single Rail!
as long as what you plug them into do not exceed the Rail's ratings your fine (would take quite a few Graphics cards to get above that) (basically if it works it works) (would take like 2 R9-295x2's or 4 R9-290X's to get to that point)

  • Power Supply for MSI HD 7850 OC 2048MB

    Hi
I have bought the above card and a Antec Neo Eco 520 power supply. The PSU has a single 8 pin (6+2) PCI-E connector. I looked at a pic of the graphics card and there appears to be a single 6 pin PCI-E connector. I however read on a forum that this card requires a 8 pin and a 6 pin PCI-E supply. So can I use the 6 pin of the 6+2 connector to power the board and if not what do I do.
    thanks in advance
    Gordon

I have a R7850 Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC and it has 1 PCI-E 6 pin power connector! just plug the 6 pin part of the 6+2 pin into the header and leave the 2 pins out........
I think you where reading it for the wrong card as the one in that type of range with a 6+8pin connection set is a R7950 on a R7970 board!
here is a list for you:
    MSI R7850 TF 2GD5/OC - 1x 6pin
    MSI R7870 TF 2GD5/OC - 2x 6pin
    MSI R7950 TF 3GD5/OC (Reference board) - 2x 6pin
    MSI R7950 TF 3GD5/OC (7970 board) - 1x 6pin + 1x 8pin <--- I think that is what you where reading a discussion about
    MSI R7970 TF 3GD5/OC - 1x 6pin + 1x 8pin
all MSI cards that require PCI-E power connectors come with power adapters in the box that can convert a pair of molex connectors to a 6pin (if it needs a 8 pin to they have a 6pin to 8pin adapter) that can be used so do not worry yourself!
Radeon HD 7850 - 21A and a 500W psu minimum just so you have a guideline!

  • MSI K9N2 Platinum Power Supply Recommendations

Hi, I am looking for a new power supply as my original burned out.  Come to find out that since I upgraded my 2gb Corsair RAM to 4gb, it was not enough to supply power to it.  *silly me*
    My specs:
    MSI K9N2 Platinum SLI
    AMD64 X2 4000+ 2.81Ghz OC'D
320 GB Seagate SATA ( I plan to purchase and install a new hard drive soon. Probably a 1TB Western Digital drive so will be running 2 Hard drives)
    4 GB Corsair DDR2 DHX (Orginally 2GB Corsair DDR2)
    EVGA 8800 GT 512MB DDR3
    DVD-R/W
My original power supply was a 450 Watts PSU.  Now that its burned out, I will need a new one to replace it.  I use my computer mainly for gaming, web browsing, etc.
I aim to look at the Corsair PSU brand because it is a very good PSU.  Can anyone suggest the amount of watts that I will need?
    Thanks in advance.

With the 8800GT, you should have a PSU that's capable of 26A, or 30A if you have many HDD and ODD and PCI cards. The Corsair VX450(33A) would work, but the VX550(41A) would be better(the TX 650 even better). If you're in the USA, NewEgg has the PC P&C after MIR, mail-in-rebates, competitively priced with the Corsairs.
Now, as long as the failed PSU didn't take out any components, the new PSU should serve you well.

  • Replacing the MSI Mega 865 Power Supply

Has anyone attempted to replace the power supply on the MSI Mega 865?  Is it ever suggested?
I am currently looking at the following (http://www.tomshardware.com/firstlook/20040720/index.html) as a possibility, but I seem to recall that there is a special connection that is necessary for the HIFI 'always on' functionality.
If you have successfully replaced the power supply, what product did you use?

Interesting, does that mean theres a possibility for modifying an existing PSU so that it also supplys 12V (i wouldnt be able to do this tho, dont know enough about this stuff  )

  • New MSI Mega 651 Power Supply

I want a new power supply for my 651 and after reading these forums I have found out that the only way to get out of the box compatable one is to order from MSI.  Of course it isnt on their online store so I am trying to call the US headquarters and pressing 1 for sales.  I have been trying for DAYS with no luck, always all operators are busy and the 2 times I kept pressing 1 for over an hour when it was finally answered they just hung up without saying a word.  Is there a trick to contacting them or should I be calling someone else?

you're right! that email addy is hard to find!
i suppose you could fill in the online tech support form here:
    http://www.msicomputer.com/msiforms/c_problem_desc_form2.asp
and explain that you'd like to purchase a new PSU, maybe they will respond that way
