    I have a MSI GE70 2OC with Windows 8.
My BIOS is E1757IMS.511 build 08/27/2013, EC Version is 1757EMS1 Ver. 5.06, build 07/30/2013.
I saw in another topic that in modified bios FAN behaviour can be changed? I really don't like that FAN is always on when on AC power.
What else can be changed or what hidden functions has my BIOS?
    TIA

  • MSI GE70 2OC BIOS update questions

Hi all, I have the GE70 2OC model with a Windows 7 installed on a HDD drive.
I want to replace the HDD for SSD and install Windows 8.1.
I thought that I might use this opportunity to update BIOS because that was recommended to me to fix throttling issues while gaming. But here is where I have a problem. On this site:
    http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GE70-2OC.html#down-bios
there are different versions to choose and I don't know which one to choose. Right now I have the E1757IMS.509 version.
There is a warning not to crossflash the bios, for example from Win 7 version to Win 8 version because it may result in bricking the system.
    1. But which one do I have now? Is it the Win7 or Win8 version? I only know the number that I wrote above... Could you tell me which one to choose?
    2. Should I update the BIOS before replacing the disk and installing system or after?
    3. Maybe I should firstly replace the disk, install Windows 8.1 and then update the BIOS version to the one dedicated for Win 8.1?
    4. Which tool should I use to flash the BIOS so that the ME and EC firmware is also updated? Or is it a separate thing to do? I've read the stickies in BIOS section of forum but I'm completely confused, in every post there is something else written or recommended.
    5. Does it even make sense to update the BIOS? I mean, will it actually help with the throttling or was I wrongly informed? (I was told to do that by the moderator of Polish MSI forum but it doesn't make much sense to me...).
Thank you for your help in advance.

.5xx is the right one for your NB, .51E is latest one:

if you planing to install/reinstall OS,
install new BIOS 1st before OS is better

use flash instructions included in .txt file inside archive, etc:
    http://www.msi.com/files/pdf/Flash_BIOS_by_UEFI_BIOS_Setup_Utility_en.pdf
about EC its separate update, but can't advice since i don't your current EC version

  • Brand new MSI GE70 2OC battery won't charge

    Hi all
I have a rare issue related with the laptop power system of a brand new GE70 2OC: basically, the battery won't charge.
-In Windows 8, with the battery installed and charger connected to the laptop: the battery does not charge and drains.
-If I boot with a linux live cd, exactly the same happens: there's no charging, and the battery is draining.
And here we go with the mess...:
-If I start windows8 only with the charger connected (battery removed), the computer turns on properly, windows start booting, but before showing the home screen, the laptop turns off. As if power were suddenly removed.
-If I start the same way (only with charger, battery removed), and entered the bios, I can stay here forever: laptop doesn't turn off until I wan't.
-If I start the same way (only with charger, battery removed) with a linux live cd, I can work without problems every time I wan't
It's very strange... If the battery is not dead, I think may be some kind of BIOS or firmware issue, because the failure of "battery not charging" appears in any situation (turned off, in bios, in windows, in linux).
The charger is not broken. It runs smoothly without battery in bios and linux.
I tried a EC Reset. Nothing happens... ¿Any idea?

    Thank you both
I'm still in the 7 days money back guarantee from the seller. I've contacted the shop, but still expecting for news.

  • MSI GX70-3BE Unlock BIOS

    Hi Svet,
I have the same problem as other folks.
I have MSI GX70-3BE and American Megatrends Inc. E176KAMS.L0H, 12-9-2014
I have tried to modify BIOS and the flash it by myself, but I'm afraid I'v got "a brick".
After modifying BIOS the flasher program told me "security! wrong file header!", but i insisted, by using keys "/capsule and /recovery" in flash command. So I flashed with that file. And now notebook has only 2 function that work - ON/OFF.
Of corse, I want to try one more thing - it's disconnect BIOS battery, so I have misery hope.
Sorry for possible mistakes. My English is not first language. I think - I also need the unlocked  BIOS file to flash.
    Can you help me? Please.

Hi! Ofcorse I know that modified bios file in this situation will not help, but I'm going to service shop. So there they gonna to unconnect bios chip and reflash it separatly. And I think at this point there is 2 ways: reprogram chip with default file or modified one. So even if they will refuse to reflasf chip with modified file, later, I could do this myself. Thank you for your attention to my situation.☺

  • MSI GE70 stuck in BIOS

    Hello,
My MSI GE70 was working fine, but suddenly when I turn it on it goes straight into BIOS - every single time. I suspected the DEL key might have been stuck, but it isn't. Do you have any suggestions as to what I could do?
    Thank you!

If there's no bootable storage device detected by the system or selecting wrong boot mode (legacy/UEFI) or SATA mode (AHCI/RAID), it will go straight into BIOS, which means...your storage is probably dead (or one of them dead and fails the RAID).
You can remove your storage device and test it on other machines to confirm this.

  • MSI GE70 2oe modded bios | split

Hey svet! I also got a MSI ge70 2oe and I am wondering if I could over clock the GPU safely and if you could possibly help me out. Gonna donate for sure before you do any harder work for me  but here's  my problems and questions: When I use MSI afterburner to over clock the gpu, after a minute or so playing the game crashes and after that the game works really bad and I checked the clocks and gpu's core clock is down to 405mhz. This problem is solved when I restart the pc but does this mean that I can't over clock the gpu not even +135mhz even when using your modded bios version? Or will the OC work when using your bios mod? And currently my gpu max temp is 78 so what do you think? Is OC worth it or not?
    Cheers

Just a little heads up, your GPU is throttling and shuts itself down to "safe-mode" which is 405 MHZ. The clock will often lock itself in that place.
If you want to overclock the gpu, run unigine heaven benchmark in the background and tweak the core first, then the memory, and then combine them. Check for signs of instability, artifacts etc. Your computer will probably shut down the gpu if you encounter any troubles. Raise the bar by 10-20 MHZ each time. Wait 20 seconds, and repeat. When you hit an artifact, turn down 20 MHZ or so and test stability for some minutes. Rinse and repeat for memory.
My problem with ocíng is that when I increase the voltage by... 300mV, my GPU jsut shuts down to safe mode. And it is not exceeding the gpu voltage by manufacturer! Try to OC as much as you can without changing the voltage. And if you change the voltage, maybe only do + 10mV or so.
