MSI GE702PE , Cant put laptop to sleep, takes me to BIOS screen

Greetings,
I bought my laptop 6.5 months ago and since I bought it I have this problem, where when I put my computer to sleep and/or it runs out of battery, as soon as I turn it on the computer goes back to this screen.
The problem is when I say Exit or save and close, it takes me back to the same screen.
What can I do to solve this. Thanks :3

Is there a more simplified version of upgrading my BIOS D: Also also ; Can I use my external driver (a 1TB LACIE) to do this?
Thank you.
Follow this update guide and use the download link I put on last reply, the process is quiet easy already.
http://www.msi.com/files/pdf/Flash_BIOS_by_UEFI_BIOS_Setup_Utility_en.pdf
I always put the download file on my USB flash drive to do the update.
(external drive should work, just make sure you've chose the right drive and found your update file.)
Good luck!

  • Automatic unmount when putting laptop to sleep?

Is there any way I can make my laptop automatically unmount the external harddisk when I put the laptop to sleep?
That external HD is used as a backup volume with time machine.
But often times, I forget to unmount it (eject it) before I put the computer to sleep; then I unplug the HD (connected via firewire). Consequently, when I wake the laptop, it complains about an external disk having been disconnected in an unorderly fashion.
So, any ideas (pointers, applescripts, etc.) that would solve this will be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Gabriel.

Does nobody else have the same problem?
I.e., do all other people always remember to unmount the external hard disk? or do they just not care about the warning afterwards?
    Regards,
    Gabriel.

  • Help with applescript to unmount disk when putting laptop to sleep

Could some kind soul please help me a bit with some applescript?
I would need two things in applescript:
    1. A way to check whether a certain external (firewire) disk is mounted
(so that I can unount, er, eject it, if it is there)
    2. A way to make an applescript being executed whenever the laptop goes to sleep.
    For the interested reader:
what I want to do is to write an applescript that would automatically unmount my external backup disk whenever the laptop goes to sleep.
Oftentimes I forget to do that myself, then, when the computer is asleep and I want to unplug everything to take it home, I remember that I haven't properly ejected the backup disk ...
Any hints, pointers, tips will be appreciated!
    Best regards,
    Gabriel.

Thanks a lot for your response
It's easy to check disks by name:
but it's not as easy to determine if the named disk is really the FireWire drive you're looking for, or just some other disk named the same.
Ah, that's OK for me, because I will always give the disks unique names.
    2. A way to make an applescript being executed whenever the laptop goes to sleep.
This is harder to do. There is no hook in the system to call a script on sleep (like there is on login or logout),
    That's what I was hoping for ...
therefore I don't see any easy way to do what you're asking.
Someone suggested to make a script that does nothing, and which has a handler for the event that the system goes to sleep, and put the eject command there.
But I have no idea how to write such a handler, and how to make the script so that it does not appear in the dock or in the "tab bar", and so that it does not consume CPU power ...
That said, I'm often in the same situation, however, I just pull the FireWire drive anyway, once it's finished going to sleep. Since no data is being read or written there is little or no chance of corruption.
    I'd rather be certain
    Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Gabriel.

  • Laptop won't boot further than bios screen

    Hello everyone,
About a year a go I bought the HP DV6-2060ea (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01944519&cc=uk&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_UK... and it has worked well for me since, until now.
Because of space requirements when installing Linux, I deleted the HP Tools and Recovery partitions from the computer. On rebooting the computer, it would not boot past the screen showing the HP logo. I am not able to enter the BIOS, nor am I able to choose a boot device. The computer does respond to pressing ESC, F9 or F10. Only it won't do anything other than just displaying the text "Pause startup", "Show boot menu" or "Entering BIOS".
Does anybody know what is going on? I should still be able to enter the BIOS, even if the partitioning went horribly wrong, right? Why can't I boot from even a CD?
    Thanks in advance!

Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

Perhaps if you explained the issue, someone could help.

    - Are you also having problems with the Home button?  Maybe it is sticking a little since to take a screen shot you depress the Home and Power/Sleep buttons at the same time.
    - I have not seen your problem discussed here before.
    - I would first try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next would be to restore the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • I can't turn my laptop on after I put it to sleep. What's wrong with it?

Hi. What's wrong with my laptop? I put it to sleep then won't turn on anymore.

First, you can force the Mac to shutdown by pasting in this command in Terminal (in Applications>Utilities). Only paste it in. Don't try to type it.
    sudo shutdown -h now
Hit return. You will be asked for your admin password. Nothing will appear on the screen when you type it in. This is normal. You will also get a warning about using sudo, which you can ignore. This is safe. After you enter your pword, hit return again.
Then, boot up again into Verbose Mode by holding down the v key at the startup chime. This will bring you to a screen that shows the boot sequence in text as its loading. It will go by kind of fast, but we're not interested in the bootup process. Next, do a normal shutdown and you may be brought to the same kind of text screen, which will show the shutdown sequence. (I know this works this way in Snow Leopard after booting in Verbose mode; not sure about Tiger, though.) If it hangs, it may show in what part of the shutdown process it's hanging. Have a camera or note paper ready to write down where it's getting stuck.
One other thing to try is an SMC Reset. Unplug from wall power, leave for ten minutes, then hold in the power button for five seconds. Reconnect to power and startup again.

  • Should I put it to SLEEP or SHUT DOWN?

Greeting everyone. I recently purchased my first Macbook, my first laptop ever. I've pretty much grown up using a desktop pc. I turn it on when I get home, put it on sleep mode when I leave it to watch tv or what not. If I'm done with it for the day, I turn it off.
Now before everone jumps on me for probably doing the wrong thing please note that I come from a "Turn it off when you're not using it kind of family". Can someone give me some pointers in using my new mac? For example, someone told me that I can actually leave my macbook in sleep mode the entire day even when traveling to and from school/work. Is this safe for my macbook? I apologize if this is such an elementary question.

I have found that my machines respond better when I just close the lid (sleep). It is important to understand that the laptop caches everything in memory to the hard drive before it goes to sleep, so you want to make sure you allow the extra time for that to happen (wait until the sleep light starts pulsating) before you move the laptop if you can. Otherwise you're moving the machine while the hard drive is still spinning. I know that the newer laptops typically have a Sudden Motion Sensor that will automatically park the heads under certain conditions, but why tempt fate? Depending on how many applications you have running, and how much RAM you have installed, going into sleep mode can take longer than you might expect. Whether you adapt a sleep or shut down operating preference (I prefer sleep- only shutting down every once in a while for OS installs, restarts due to problems, etc.), it is much more important to follow Apple's guidelines for calibrating the battery. Not only does following these instructions allow the computer to more accurately report the battery charge level, it also runs the lithium ion battery through a complete cycle - something that is needed every once in a while to keep it operating in tip-top shape. The instructions for the procedure are found here:

  • How to disable iMac screen and not to put it into sleep?!!!

I would like to play a movie on my iMac but to watch it on my LCD TV. How to disable iMac screen and not to put it into sleep. PLS have in mind that ctrl+shift+ eject does not work, it makes my iMac screen go  black as well as the  tv screen. So far, i have red many articles concerning this subject, but no one seems to have the right answer. I simply can´t believe that apple did not think of it, as it is nothing new ....
    Thanks

My brother has eight cats, so your not along. Fortunetly his go outside.
I have been talking to the people over at macforums and they had some good thoughts. One guy suggested going analog and soldering in a rocker switch on the cable connecting a hub to the computer, turn off switch turns off keyboard and mouse.
I was prepared to try that but a great idea came along. Arch, you might be interested in this too. Buy a cheap (found one locally for $20) usb kvm switch that takes one usb keyboard and mouse and connects it to two pcs/macs and only connect one of the outs to my system. There is a button to switch between the two, so when I want to disable the keyboard and mouse, I just switch it to pc2, which is not connected to anything.
Cheap and easy solution. I wish I could of figured out how to do this with software, since there would be no money if it was freeware, but I guess you cant win them all.
    Thanks everyone for chiming in!

my iphone has turned itself off and asking to be connected to itunes however i cant put the passcode in for itunes to restore it as it will only let me make emergency calls. Any help?

Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • GT70 BSOD or Stuck after Windows puts it to sleep mode of turns off monitor

    Hi Everyone!
i have an  issue (or 2) with my laptop.
    both happens when:
    1) whenever i put the laptop into sleep mode or either windows does so automatically (inactive period), - the laptop will go to sleep just fine.
    2) windows turns off monitor after a period of inactivity. (sleep mode due to inactivity was disabled in this case)
in both the cases i mentions above, if i wake the computer within lets say 5 minutes, it'll turn on just fine.
but after a certain period of time passes it wont.
with the sleep mode, the computer will wake and will then produce a BSOD STOP error 0x4 and restart.
with monitor turned off it'll simply wont turn on, not responding to neither keyboard, mouse or power button. - i have to do a hard reboot
    any ideas?
    anything i can check?
note the laptop just came back from a warranty repair, so all parts have been tested and been found ok!
    system specs:
    MSI GT70-0ND
CPU: Intel Core i7-3630QM 2.4GHz (Intel GPU HD 4000 included)
    Memory: 16GB DDR3
    Storage: 750GB HDD 7200rpm
128GB SSD (Patriot Pyro SE) - OS installed on this.
GPU: 4GB NVIDIA Geforce GTX 675MX
    OS: Windows 7 64bit
    Thanks in Advance!!

i dont think i have the same problem as in the other thread.
    my bios:
my laptop doesnt restart when my screen is turned off and i try to wake it. it would simply wont wake up.
and my BSOD happens only after i wake the laptop from sleep mode and only if it been in sleep mode for a while. meaning i if i wake it up within a few mins of going to sleep it'll boot justfine.
