Orm,
To start with your power supply could be too weak to run the Athlon XP(Guessing you have an Athlon XP) and the GF4 under load.  150W combined and 14A on the 3.3v RAIL is not enough.
You could try removing your your firewire, sound and nic cards, and unplugging your two CD Drives.
See if you can get any farther then.  Also get the latest Detonator Drivers from the nVidia Website. They should be on 41.09 now.
Good Luck,
Richard
P.S. Which OS are you running?

  • Msi GeForce 4 4200 frame rate locked at 60 with Windows 2000

Lost here..... I have an MSI Geforce 4 4200 120MB Video Card slotted on an Asus A7V motherboard - AMD Thunderbird 1Ghz processor with 640mb of ram.
There is a common problem with the Nvidia chip and Windows 2000 in regards to a lock frame rate at 60fps within games.
I've tried several programs to fix this i.e. "Refresh Lock", "Windows 2000/XP Nvidia Refresh rate lock", "PowerStrip 3.15" and "NVFresh Tool 1.0"
But nothing seems to work. I'm sure these program work with older Nvidia cards but not with GeForce 4.
Any Ideas? I even turned the Vsync off and on.
    HELP!

(A little advice: If you can, dump XP and install a copy of Windows 2000 second edition. They both have the same KERNAL but I find that Win 2000 is much more compatible for now. I give XP 2 more years before it's the OS for all. I've reinstalled 6 systems with Windows 2000 because of compatibility problems.)

  • MSI Geforce 3 WDM and bios problem plz help!!!

    Hi
I have a MSI Geforce 3 Ti200 Pro-VT and when i install any detenator driver above 23.11 then the capture card wont work! The driver for the capture device says it wont start so i am stuck with 23.11. I have tries later WDM drivers and detenator drivers but they all give the same problem! I have also tried to flash the bios but live update 2 says Your Display Card does not support MSI Live Update 2 function which it is supposed to have. When i go directly to the bios page and try to update it then the update fails. The flash program seems to think that i have a different card or something but my  system information says that i do. This it the information:
    VGA Card Manufacturer MSI
    VGA Card Model Name MS-8850
    VGA Card BIOS Vendor NVIDIA
    VGA Card BIOS Version 3.20.00.18.03
    VGA Card Driver Version 2311
Can someone please help me cause it would be nice to have the latest drivers working for the card.
    Thanks
    Nixus

I downloaded the bios files from http://tw.msi.com.tw/autobios/SVga/Bios/Ms8850/v111/ and then downloaded NVFLASH.EXE and booted in dos and flashed the card i had to force the flash though it had some conflict of data or something but i knew it was the right bios and i had made a backup of the current one plust the card has dual bios so i wasnt too worried and it all worked out fine.
Goodluck with gettin all your cards workin

  • MSI GeForce 2 Titanium series

I want to buy an MSI GeForce 2 Titanium and in the
specifications appears AGP 4X fast writes.
But the card have a 3.3v key and a 1.5v key, so...
Can the GeForce 2 Titanium works with an older
    motherboard with AGP 2X only.
     Bye...

Yes, only if the mobo also supports at least 2x AGP as the GF/GF2/GF3/GF4(2x/4x) can run in either 2x or 4x mode depending on the support of the mobo AGP slot/gart.

  • MSI GeForce Gtx 970 Coil Whine noise threw headset/stereo

Hi, I recently got an MSI GeForce Gtx 970 and for some odd reason, when I boot up a game it starts making some sort of Coil Whine noise which is not coming from my computer, it's coming from my headset or stereo. The noise kind of sounds like an electric tooth brush. And I have read many reviews on this graphics card and people are saying that they are hearing a Coil Whine noise coming from the graphics card, but me it's my headset. It may be an interference. Anyone have any ideas?

    Hey man,
I am not sure about this completely but I know my buddy has a gtx 980 and he gets coil whine. It also affects his headphones when they are plugged in. He told me the sound is much better when he got a set of USB head phones. G430 ones I think.

  • MSI Geforce 7800 GTX with MSI Nvidia GeForce 7800GT in SLI?

Hi. I bought the MSI Nvidia GeForce 7800GT a few months ago with the intention of buying a second to run in SLI. Now i can't seem to find anywhere that sells it at a decent price. Originally i bought it from www.ebuyer.co.uk but they have discontinued it.
Could i buy a MSI Geforce 7800 GTX and run it in SLI? They should have the same gpu and the specs aren't that different.

  • MSI Ti 4200 random lockups

Ive been trying to get a GeForce 4 to work in my computer for over 3 months now and I am getting very frustrated.  First I had a Visiontek Ti 4200 64Mb with a Soyo Dragon+ mobo and that would lockup any time I tried to play a video game.  The screen would get covered with colored blocks and i would have to do a hard reboot.  Then I decided to get a new Epox 8K5A2 mobo and used that with the Visiontek card and it still did the same lockups.  I sold the Visiontek card and now I have an MSI Ti 4200 64Mb card and that is doing the same thing too.  Last week I bought an Epox 8K3A+ because I had seen websites using it with the exact same videocard for benchmarks so I figured it has got to work.  Got the board yesterday and guess what, it does the same damn thing as the others.  I have a 600W Robanton powersupply that is designed for high-end servers.  It puts out 40A at +3.3v and 60A at +5v so it can't be my powersupply.  I tested both cards in my parents PC which has a Duron 750 and an Epox 8KTA3 mobo(350W Codegen PSU) and they worked perfectly.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Lite-On 16xDVD and 16x CDRW
    Netgear FA311 NIC
    600W Robanton PSU

I upgraded my mobo to its latest BIOS version and it still didn't work so I swapped out my XP 2000+ for a Duron 750 and that still didnt work.  Then I swapped my PSU for my parents 350W Codegen PSU and it works , no lockups.  I just ran through 3Dmark2001 and it actually made it all the way thru. 8o Now I'm gonna swap the Duron 750 out and put my Xp 2000+ back in and I'll see if that works.  If not then I'm gonna have to buy a new PSU.  I'm gonna need some suggestions from people who have similar systems(Athlon XP, DDR mobo, GeForce4)

  • MSI Geforce 4 ti 4200 8x 128mb problems

I have recently purchased a 128mb 8x GeForce 4 ti 4200 video card, and i am having great dificulty geting it to work properly. Here are my computer specs:
Motherboard: Abit KA7-100 (latest bios update installed)
    CPU        : Athlon Slot A 800Mhz
    Ram        : Crucial 512mb PC133
OS         : Windows XP Pro / Windows 2000 Pro (latest updates installed)
    DirectX    : 9
    Harddrives : 1 Segate SATA 120 GB
                 1 Western Digital 8mb cache 120GB
1 Western Digital 27GB ata 66 (boot drive)
                 2 Western Digital 40GB ata 100 drives
Here is my problem: I can install the drivers for the card just fine, but whenever i try to play a movie (avi, mpeg), 3d game (or any game that uses the 3D part of the card, my computer freezes. I've installed several different versions of nvidia drivers for the card on my computer, but the outcome is always the same. The 2D usage of the card works just fine, but whenever a 3D program/game tries to use the video card, the computer locks up. I have noticed this effect when I bought a GeForce FX card as well. My previos Vid card was a Visiontek GeForce 3 TI 200 which runs very well no matter what I use it for (and after the abuse i put it through too...  XD ).  I have tried about 5 different drivers for the ti 4200, and have had the same problems.
I'm currently going to upgrade my motherboard/cpu/ram next week, but I'm dumbfounded on why these newer cards do not work at all on my motherboard. If you can help me this would mean a lot to me.
My current mobo only goes up to agp 4x, but i hardly think that would cause the vid card to freeze whenever i try playing any 3d game.
Can someone help meh?   :D   thnx.

    Hi,
It's been posted a couple of times but since I don't see any success stories yet; here's my problem. I hope you guys can help me out. I have tried to specify the system as much as posible but let me know when more information is needed.
When I play 3D games (and sometimes when I leave my PC without screensaver or 'doing' something) my system locksup after a short time (sometimes after 10 seconds other times a few minutes)and the whole PC locksup, I can't even use ctrl+alt+del to get out. My PC is brand new.
Important! The problem does NOT excist as soon as I install a different videocard, being a a Radeon 9200. However I would like to use my MSI card as it's performance is better.
    Videocard: MSI MS-Starforce GeForce Ti4200 with GP8x (NVIDIA Geforce4 Ti4200 with AGP8x), driver version NVDIA 4.1.0.7, PCI-bus 1.

first off i know the stock clock speeds are 250/512, now my first question is what have you guys been able to overclock the card to on the stock top tech cooling from 250/512 to what speeds?
also 2ndly the msi geforce 4 ti 4200 vtd8x video card it has a jumper, ive never had a jumper on my video cards before, what is this jumper for?
go here to see it here
the jumper is green in this pic and it is right under the big copper thing on the right side of the card looking at it from the pci slot, where the pci slot is the bottom of card

ok i now know what jumper does, this is response form msi tech support "That's a jumper to switch video BIOS.  If somehow the video BIOS goes bad after flashing it or other reason, you can switch the jumper and use another BIOS."
now id still like to know what youve been able to overclock the ti 4200 vt8dx cards to with the stock top tech cooling to

  • MSI GeForce 4 Ti 4200 128 DDR (Direct3D problem)

I bought the MSI GeForce 4 Ti 4200 128 DDR just today and I seem to be experiencing Direct3D issues.  I never have problems with general use of the video card, but when I try to play games that require 3D acceleration I get crashes (Blue screen of Death).  The reason why I think it is the Direct3D is because I only get problems when attempting to run 3D accelerated games, and I've downloaded a couple video test programs off of the net and they have crashed when testing 3D as well.  ?( I just ran dxdiag and it failed when I test Direct3D:
Direct3D test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x887602eb (error code)
Questions:  Has anyone had this issue before and is it fixable without me returning the card for a different one?
    Thanks,
     Brent

Sorry about that, I should have put that in the first message.
I run Win 2000 server and I did a clean install (format drive) when I got the new video card. I have a Pentium 3, 800 Mhz 256 MBs RAM.  The motherboard is an AOpen AX3S with all Intel chips.
My previous video Card was an ATI Rage Fury 32 MB and it ran all my games with Direct3D, but usually with low frames per second.
The only thing I changed was the video card and the drivers of course.  I'm really trying to avoid sending the card back.  ;(  Any suggestion would be helpful..  Thank you!
    Brent
P.S.  I tried to run that 3D Mark program that people use to test their video cards and that failed before it finished, so my score must be 0.

  • Another Thread on GeForce 4 4200 lockups

    Hi.
I am struggling with my 4200. It locks up whenever I play newer games, such as UT2k3 and Morrowind, but it doesn't have any problem running Wheel of Time (which is about 3 years old).
At first it was doing the random rebooting 3-5 minutes into the game, like everyone else has been complaining. So, I went out about got a new 400W PSU (235W combined) and that didn't fix a thing. Needless to say, I returned it since I couldn't afford it in the first place :p
Now, I've reformatted my computer, with a fresh Win2000 install, and I'm still having problems. It doesn't reboot now, instead of crashes to a blue screen and gives me this error:
    "*** STOP: 0x0000001E ( 1x00000005, 0xBA7515C3, 0x00000001, 0x00000000)

Any ideas on what to do?

I have loaded Windows 98 on my system and it works fine. But then I load Windows XP on and the system starts rebooting. After it reboots my video resets itself and I have to load it back in. I will then reboot and sometimes it will work, sometimes it will not. I try playing a game or even searching the net for awhile, but out of the blue the system will give a very quick blue screen and reboot. And of course when it boots up the video is reset. I loaded all the drivers I could find on MSI's website and used every video driver made by Nvidia and MSI. If I do a Windows XP update to my system the computer will not even boot up. it will just keep rebooting when it is trying to bring up the login screen.  Anyone else run into this with Windows XP?

  • MSI Geforce GTX 660 TF 2GD5/OC and Asus problems

    Hi there,
just bought a MSI Geforce GTX 660 TF 2GD5/OC with and Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 mainboard. Installed Windows 7 x64 without any problems. All the drivers work but when I try to install the Nvidia drivers it just says there isn't a compatible graphics card available. Upgrade my motherboards BIOS to 1708 which is the latest one. Still didn't make it work. Hope that anybody can help me because I want to start gaming!
    Regards!
