MSi GF4 Ti4800 temp

Hi there
Posted this in the MOBO forum, but got no reply, maybe because this is mainly a Graphics card question ! DOH !
Hope you guys can help !
As you can see in my sig, I have an MSI GF4 Ti4800 in a Neo875P PCB2 mobo. At the weekend I encountered a bit of a problem. After about 6 hours of use, with the CPU running at 100% most of the time (at 46 - 49 degrees) I started to get strange patterns scrolling vertically down the screen. I was unable to make out anything on the screen so I had to hit the reset button. When the machine had rebooted, I ran sppeedfan (v4.13) which reported the GF4 was reaching a temp of around 60 degrees ! When the temp got above 65 degrees I got the wierd patterns again.
This is the first time I've really had a long session since I installed this mobo. Everything else is quite cool - CPU (46-49 degs 100%), HD's (30-35 degs) and case (38 degs).
Is the fact that the North fan is right above the H/S on the GF card causing the card to over heat ? I've removed the fan that came with the card (I've have the card about 14 months or so) and replaced it with a Thermaltake cooper H/S and fan. This HAS made a difference, the temp has not risen above 60 degrees - but this is still really hot.
Is there anything else I can do ? Does the North bridge fan blow or suck ?
Is there much improvement (performace wise) to be had in upgrading to a FX5900 128mb card (MSI or Gainward Gold Sample) ? The MSI FX5900 XT-VTD128 has a fan at the back and front of the card, so I'm wondering if this will foul on the north bridge fan ? Anyone using one of these ?
Thanks
Fred

yea sound like a heat issue with ur ram
u will get grpahical gltches with ur ram such as white spots and also lines this is overheating id perchance a few heatsink for ur memory
also just to let u know
my ti4600 has a full copper heatsink covering all ram and gpu and i get temps of about 65-70  which a well cooled case

Hi m8 i have a similar set up to yourself and found that my graphics card was bloody well hot!!!!
what i done was added a port blower to the left hand side of the graphics card (the fan side) and it fits like a glove without blocking the graphics card fan.
I was left with the problem of the rear heatsink hotting up!!!,,, the cure was to use a spare fan i had off a pentium 2 heatsink and i stuck it on with evostick and routed the 3 pin connector to the motherboard.
It is on solid and the card now runs cool,i did off set it so it blew directly onto the indentation of the heatsink where it contacts the gpu chip..... hope this helps m8...baz

  • Help needed pls!!! GF4 Ti4800 SE 8X on MSI 845 Ultra?

    Hi folks,
    I just purchased a GF4 Ti4800 SE 128mb 8X.
I own a MSI 845 Ultra ARU (6398), I understand this board only supports up to 4X AGP, but the GF4 card should be able to "downgrade" to work with a 4x motherboard, I hope.
Booting up is ok, but graphics start to tear on the window start-up screen. At the desktop, once i click the mouse, the desktop will hang like for 1 sec, then the monitor switch to Black screen, and then back desktop, this repeats when i click the mouse. There are also some weird colors here and there.
    Can anyone pls advise?

  • Overclocking MSI GF4 ti4200td 4xagp

I was wondering if anyone knows what are reasonable overclocks for the msi gf4 ti4200 td 4x agp card. Today I adjusted the core to 300 and used the auto adjust feature for the memory and got it up to 567. Things are running stable but I was wondering if this is too high or if there are any limits I should not pass? Can it go higher? I only have the default heatsink and fan for the GPU and no heatsinks on the ram. Should I worry about temps?

If you aren't getting artifacts on your screen then I think it should be fine. Run a few more games and watch for colorful pixels. If you get them then clock down a bit.
Have Fun, don't blow your card
    Regards,

  • Msi kt3 ultra, msi gf4 4200 tvout problem

    I have a msi gf4 4200 64mb card and i have a msi kt3 ultra aru and windows xp,
my problem is tv out is garbled in pal , ntsc is grey (iam in europe), the colours seem inverted blues are red, etc and theres a ghosting effect around moving images like in videos or around the cursor
Ive tried everything from default mem setting , to high performance , tried diferent driver sets , tried windows 2000, tried via chipset drivers, latest msi, nvidia gf drivers, pal b , g , i , 60hz, diferent resolutions, clone view, single output to tv, stretch view , nothing seems to fix it, the only thing that comes close to fixing it is using the tvtool http://tvtool.info/ with color fix correction activated, but the images isnt stable its got a weird strecthing, shimmering effect on the bottom half of the tv image
Iam sure that the problem is not tv or cable related because i tried a friends p4 (board msi sis 645dx) with the exact same model gf4 4200 (not my one) with my scart cable and tv set up and it worked fine.
Could it be a voltage problem? ive even tried upping agp and core voltage a bit to see if helps, and nothing

    mhuizing,
nope havent tried a diferent tv , but it should work ,  i tested the connection with a friends computer
exact same gfx card model and it worked fine!
My old system leadtek gf3 ti200 , epox 8kha+ worked fine with this connection.
Iam using a scart cable to a video , then from the vid to the tv via antena cable
i upgraded and voila, i got some headaches for free  :P !!!

  • MSI GF4 Ti4200 VTD8X tech question

Hi everyone, I hope u can help me with this:
I'm planning on buying a MSI GF4 Ti4200 VTD8X (Video In) from the United States which uses the NTSC system for Video, however where I live we use the PAL system for Video. So my question is will I be able to use the Video In feature of the card ?( ?? Do these cards work using both video systems or are there different video versions of the card?
    Thanks in advance!

    bondock,
It is my understanding that they will work with both systems. They do not make them market specific.
    Take Care,
    Richard

  • GF4 Ti4800 SE bad peformence

I got a GF4 Ti4800 SE, and i cant get good peformance with it.
I play most Unreal Tournament and UT 2003.
My fps in Unreal Tournament is really lousy  :(
    A friend to me got a GF4 4600
When we are at the same spot in UT he has fps like 120 average, and i got 60....sucks imo
I have tried everything i think, Drivers, BIOS, fixing  adjustments in the card etc etc........
    When i did a 3Dmark2001SE test, i got poor 5178 result  8o
I would be very happy if i could get some help    )
    /Mania

You know, no matter what way you cut it, you 4800 (Which I have) has a 4200 engine.... there is no way that it can compare to the top of the line GF4 card, the 4600ti ... take a look for yourself.... power tweaks ect won't help.... a 8x AGP slot may help.... I get the same FPS in unreal that you do, about 60 +/- on any map... I run a ASUS MB with a AMD 2000 XP and 512 gig ram...  rember this... you bought the card cauze it was a deal... and that's what you got... the human eye can only see 23-30 FPS anyway, so as long as it doesn't drop too much, I would not worry about it, wait for the top of the line FX cards to drop, and then buy that....   btw, here's that link http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce4ti.html

Last week I bought my video card. I didn't have problems until few days ago. Mouse movement in Win XP is choppy, not all the time. I played with sample rate but that didn't help.I tried my old gf2 mx400, and i didn"t have problems. I was reading threads and I realized that the problem may be in power supply. It's a bit old (about 2 years :-) ), iam not sure is it good if it is warm . This problem occurd just after the problem with HD (detection problems, messed HD name..), i checked IDE cable, it's good. 3d expirience is not shownig voltages and temepatures. Fuzzy logic 3 somtimes alerts that the temperature in chassis is 131C!! which is impossible. I sens lack of fps in games.
    Please help!

  • 640x480 and above, capture with MSI GF4 Ti4200 VTP

could anyone successfully perform this operation ?
The weird thing is that if I set a capture of something like 5 fps in VirtualDub and 640x480 (I tried with several codecs and thought that decreasing the fps would improve the bandwidth usage), it still doesn't want to capture anything -> 0 frames. The maximum I can get (15% frames lost) is 320x200 at 30 fps.  I tried to capture directly to memory as it's supposed to be very fast, no luck.
Maybe my system is not monster enough, don't know....   ?(   Or could that be the card which is limited for this ?
    MSI GF4 Ti4200 VTP - 1 gig RAM (DDR 333), Athlon XP 2100, IBM ICL35 120 GB - OS : W2K.
WDM 1.16 from MSI-CD. I tried with WDM 1.08 too.

your system is fine for this kind of job....
i have no problem in capturing full pal (768x...) in 30 fps (using included wincoder and mpeg1 or mpeg2 codecs) 60% cpu load on duron @1380
virtual bud will need somethong better then 1,3gh duron but i got no problems with 640x480 divx pro 5.02 25fps on my current sysetm (but the cpu load is high 75-90%) (0% frame lost)
some motion codecs (mjpg) will need both fast cpu and fast hdd....
uncompresed will produce so much data that even very fast hdd's will by to slow
but it is in fact weird 15% frame lost on 320x200 is much to high.. what board are u using?? are the latest 4in1 drivers instaled (very important for w2k) by shure that agpx4 and bus mastering are on... are u using any other extensin cards (tv tuner, off board sound, ide, lan??) if yes try removing them

  • MSI GF4 Ti4600

I am having trouble with my new GF4 Ti4600, if i install it under windows me it crashes the system and only starts in safe mode. if i install xp, the card installs but crashes and reboots mt pc everytime i start a game.

Always the same old questions when things happend:
    1) What is your motherboard model? Updated to the latest BIOS? X(  Try to give more system info next time...
    2) What is your driver for GF4? Try latest version 30.30 from MSI... becarefully, you will have to download drivers saperately for XP and WindowsME...
    3) If you are a OCing your MOB, try to turn OC off first... as they are the cost of problem most of the time.
    4) OS version? Make sure you have the latest SP (Service Pack)
    5) DirectX 8.1 installed?
    Download~download~download~update~update~update!!
    Cheers~~~!

  • MSI swindle? (MSI gf4 mx420d-t memory bandwidth)

I've just bought an MSI gf4 mx420d-t based on their site specs, specificly the memory bandwith.  They advertise 5.3GB/second memory bandwidth.
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/vga/vga/pro_vga_detail.php?UID=323&MODEL=MS-8878
When i checked the nvidia site, the mx420 chip has only 2.7GB/second memory bandwidth, but there is another chip, the mx440se which matched exactly with the memory bandwidth advertized in MSI site, so i thought that was the chip of the mentioned card.
When i took a look to the manual (after i bought it  ?(   8o   ;(  ) the specs for my model were: 2.7GB/second memory bandwidth.
I really hope that the manual has an error (as it happened with the nforce clearcmos jumper thing) or else it's a big swindle (I had cheaper options, only bought it considering this matter).
    Can someone clear this?

I am experiencing the same problem with 3DTurbo. Possiblty that feature only works for other MSI vidcards.

  • Are MSI GF4 MX 440 or460 working properly?

    Dear All,
Since I am not the only one having problem with MSI graphic card based on GF4 MX440 or 460 :O , especially when playing 3D games (for example No one lives forever or Aquanox), I would like to know if someone is the happy owner of a MSI GF4 MX 440 or 460, having no problem of screen freezing when playing 3D games? If so, then could you describe your configuration (motherboard, OS, Processor, PowerSupply and driver)
thanks for your help and your time
    Eric
PS: you can email me directly to [email protected]  :P

    Thanks for your answer,
here more information and more "?"
I have found out that MSI GF4 MX 4x0 are NOT certified by microsoft for compatibility with XP . Well, I am running XP, investment regarding XP software makes graphic card incompatibility minor, considering the price, so I better buy a new graphic card...
In addition it has been reported that GF4MX are not fully functional with DirectX and 3D, in other words they might not work properly from one game to another....
well here are the info, I have updated my bios on my ASUS P4S333, as well as the different driver of the SIS chipset, AGP slot.... no change, I have also tried detonator 28.32, no improvement,
my psu is 300W so it should not be the source of the problem
so I guess this GF4MX440 is a faulty card, and I have to get it replaced....
Now seing problems with other MSI card on this forum (i.e. 4200 Ti ) I would maybe change and go for a ASUS graphic card, or any other brand, any suggestion???
    Eric
