MSI GNB Max and P4 3.06 with 56C Idle (Bios)

is that ok or to high, i know about some bugs with the Temp Sensor so there are my 2 cents ! :D
Please give me some feedback thx. !

I had the exact same problem.  I bought a Cooler Master IHC-H71 CPU cooler and it brought me down to 40-44 at idle.  Ordered it from http://www.phamcomputer.com

    Why ??
    Please help me.

Yes, sure. I'm trying to use all of five PCI slots, and after slot chnge I,m setting Reset Configuration data in BIOS.

  • Realisticly:how much OC with my system?MSI GNB MAX

Ok, How much OC I can get, with my system, if I change the 1.5ghz 266DDR Value RAM to something better. Any suggestions.
I plan to ditch the ram for something better, but my mobo, and CPU aren't that fast compared to the C, and E, and the 64 stuff.
    I am using the 2.8B, E7205/i7205 mobo.
Only fan cooling. Using the pipe101, will place the tornado on it. Does the vantec fan card improves my GF performance.
I am just able to OC my card from 350 to 388mhz, 1.09ghz, others got a 420mhz on a supperior system. All using the inno3d 6800gt.. Or I'm looking at an "old" system already.
The OC FSB is just up to 153. I read somewhere that it is useless/not worth to OC this system.
    So what do you think?
my system is in the signature

I would not push further than 160 FSB, you can corrupt your disks since PCI /AGP are not locked. Usually PCI frequency above 38 MHZ is not considered safe and 150 FSB corresponds to 37.5 MHZ PCI frequency. I corrupted my 30 GB WD at 160 FSB.
I have GNB Max, P4 3.06HT, 2x 512MB KVR DDR333 (CAS2.5 rated). I oveclocked the system to 150 FSB,  P4 is running as 3.45GHz@600FSB (HT is on), with dual channel DDR300 memory (2-3-3-6 timings). System is 100% stable after testing with Linux kernel compile, Prime 95, 3DMark benchmarks. The performance gain in CPU intensive benchmarks is almost the same as increase in FSB frequency, which is 12.5%, since RAM overclocks in sync with CPU.
If you settle at 150 FSB, your DDR266 will be running as DDR300. You can test it with its given SPD values and if not stable you can reduce CAS setting one step, i.e. from CAS2.5 to CAS3. If none of these are possible, you can upgrade with DDR400.
I use Vantec Fan card with my GF4, but it did not help me increase my overclock. However, I removed the fan on my GF4 (heat sink is not removed just the fan) after trying to increase the overclock. Vantec Fan card is much more silent compared to the Thermaltake fan and copper heat sink combo. I still can overclock as before but do not need to put up with the noise of Thermaltake fan.
    Hope this helps

  • MSI GNB Max (MS-6565): insufficient voltage

I have just installed my new GNB Max, and got XP Pro up and running. Upon installing PC Alert 4, I recieved a warning that the +3.3V was actually sub 3V(2.9+V). What effect will this have? And what kind of Variance should I tolerate?
    Many thanks.

My GNB Max + Antec true power 430 read 3.33.
Sounds like a power supply not handling the load.
Acceptable tolerance in the PC industry is +-5% (3.135 is therfor the lower limit)

  • RESOLUTION: GNB MAX and Radeon 9700 Crashes

I had various lock-ups, crashes and "Windows detected and recovered from a device failure" error messages with my GNB MAX motherboard and Radeon 9700 and they are now fixed.
I was able to receive a beta version of an upcoming set of drivers from ATI and they did the trick!!
Just wanted to give you all some hope.
    Hang in there!

Oops, I spoke too soon.  I think FastWrites is on (I remember turning it off before on previous drivers and noticing a big slow down that is not present now) but there isn't a SmartGart tab appearing in my ATI control panel any more.  I checked Advanced - Options - Details and yes, 8X is on.
How can I verify that FastWrites is on without the SmartGart tab?

  • MSI 648 Max and ipods? Prob's connecting.

    Please can anyone help?
I have a MSI 648 Max board with on-board usb2 and have problems connecting to my 4G 20Gb iPod. I'm pretty sure it’s the USB connection that is the problem. Has anyone else had this? Can anyone suggest anything to help? This is my last port of call before I’ll have to folk out for a Firewire card which I really don’t want to do.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for replying  .
I have used USB for a number of devices (Printed/Mouse/DigiCam) and have never had any noticeable problems. I’ve tried the disconnecting thing and it didn’t seem to have any effect.
I thought it might be something to do with iPod’s not liking on-board USB and decided to post a topic here to see if anyone else has had a similar problem. Doesn’t seem to be much talk of iPod’s though. I wondered if MSI knew of any problems.
I have been around a few iPod forums but not many people seem to be using on-board USB.
Keep the suggestions coming though. Thanks.

  • GNB Max and firewire

When I plug a firewire device into the GNB Max, nothing happens.  The firwire controller shows up in the device manager and doesn't have any conflicts, also I double checked to make sure that firewire is enabled in the bios.  I followed the instructions for connecting the firewire bracket to the mainboard.

It is a Digital VHS Recorder.  With my old mobo, I had a pci firewire card, and all I had to do was plug it in, then I could choose the drivers.

  • MSI Mpower Max and Team Group LV 2400 Memory (Samsung)

Bios 1.31b is fine, but afterwards seems to have a problem with my memory modules, even at XMP settings they are difficult to boot. I am pretty sure it is related to a single value called tWR. For some reason the tWR value in the later bios are limited to be adjusted between 0 and 16. My modules need it to be 18 to boot at XMP.
I really want those later bioses, because of the faster PWM and the Legacy optimizing for benching. Please tell me where to post these to get my memory modules working.

There is no power supply temp sensor installed, the program is just getting random readings from a non used sensor.

  • MSI Z87MPOWER MAX and weird warning

I played with my samsung 840 pro and i turned RAPID mode off. Computer needed restart, and when i come back to system i get this warning :
You are not using the first BIOS ROM currently. MSI strongly recommend you to update your BIOS via MSI Live update.
I didnt update bios with live update, i just restarted comp and i didnt get this warning anymore. Even after few restarts.
My current bios version is bios v. 1.7
I updated bios with forum tool few months ago.
So my question is, what do i need to do now?

  • MSI 648 Max and Radeon 7900 pro

I have big troubles trying to setup my video card ATI Radeon 7900 pro. I try several drivers from ATI, I've tried Radeonator to downclock the video card, but the system is still very instable, hanging in every games (AoM, WC3) after few seconds, and even hanging while doing elementary stuff with the PC.
Anyone know something about this pb ?
Is it specific to the video card (i ca see a lot of pb with this card) ?
Is there a compatibility issue between video card and this mother board ?
    Thanks in advance.

You can try going back through the earlier posts. I know there were quite a few dealing with the Radeon9700 and the 648Max. I don't have the Radeon so I can't help much if the problem is really related to that card. One thing you might check right off are the voltage readings in the BIOS. I know you need a pretty good power supply with that combination of motherboard and graphics card. I also know that there were some other issues as well.
