  • Realisticly:how much OC with my system?MSI GNB MAX

Ok, How much OC I can get, with my system, if I change the 1.5ghz 266DDR Value RAM to something better. Any suggestions.
I plan to ditch the ram for something better, but my mobo, and CPU aren't that fast compared to the C, and E, and the 64 stuff.
    I am using the 2.8B, E7205/i7205 mobo.
Only fan cooling. Using the pipe101, will place the tornado on it. Does the vantec fan card improves my GF performance.
I am just able to OC my card from 350 to 388mhz, 1.09ghz, others got a 420mhz on a supperior system. All using the inno3d 6800gt.. Or I'm looking at an "old" system already.
The OC FSB is just up to 153. I read somewhere that it is useless/not worth to OC this system.
    So what do you think?
my system is in the signature

I would not push further than 160 FSB, you can corrupt your disks since PCI /AGP are not locked. Usually PCI frequency above 38 MHZ is not considered safe and 150 FSB corresponds to 37.5 MHZ PCI frequency. I corrupted my 30 GB WD at 160 FSB.
I have GNB Max, P4 3.06HT, 2x 512MB KVR DDR333 (CAS2.5 rated). I oveclocked the system to 150 FSB,  P4 is running as 3.45GHz@600FSB (HT is on), with dual channel DDR300 memory (2-3-3-6 timings). System is 100% stable after testing with Linux kernel compile, Prime 95, 3DMark benchmarks. The performance gain in CPU intensive benchmarks is almost the same as increase in FSB frequency, which is 12.5%, since RAM overclocks in sync with CPU.
If you settle at 150 FSB, your DDR266 will be running as DDR300. You can test it with its given SPD values and if not stable you can reduce CAS setting one step, i.e. from CAS2.5 to CAS3. If none of these are possible, you can upgrade with DDR400.
I use Vantec Fan card with my GF4, but it did not help me increase my overclock. However, I removed the fan on my GF4 (heat sink is not removed just the fan) after trying to increase the overclock. Vantec Fan card is much more silent compared to the Thermaltake fan and copper heat sink combo. I still can overclock as before but do not need to put up with the noise of Thermaltake fan.
    Hope this helps

  • Does My MS-6534 Has AGP/PCI Lock Feature?

Hello, I would like to ask, does my MSI MS-6534 i845 has AGP/PCI Lock feature?
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=40
    Does it support overclocking?
Cause I want to overclock my CPU and I afraid it will cause some damages to my VGA Card or PCI slot card.
    My PC specs:
    Intel PIV 1.5 GHz (100x15)
    SDRAM 256MB + 128MB PC133, total 384MB
    Seagate 7200.7 40GB
    Sapphire R9500 128MB mod to R9700
    PSU 400 Watt
Last week my soundcard didn't sound anything after I set my FSB from default 100 to 113.
And then my PC boots so slow.
I play Wining Eleven 7 adn it goes slow, not as usuall.
Does somebody can give me some solution.
    Sorry for my English.

I afraid that my VGA card was damaged cause i overclocked my CPU too high.
Are there any indications of damaged VGA Card or other peripheral like harddisk or soundcard?
    I so afraid.

  • Do k8t neo fis2r have agp/pci lock?

    Hi
I just read a test of my motherboard (MSI k8t neo fis2r).
I was written that the motherboard had a agp/pci lock.
Does it so? I dont want to damage my 9800xt with to high agp bus so i need to know! please

Simple fix... Don't overclock the system clock or what people mistakenly reffer to as the Front Side Bus (FSB)... The issue is not just with the motherboard but rather with the VIA K8T-800 chipset. The Hyperthreading, PCIO, and AGP are all tied to the system clock so when you change that clock everything is affected. Some things can handle it and some things can't. If you leave the system clock alone then there are no worries.

  • GNB-MAX-FISR Heat Solution

Thanks to a previous post and some other help, I think I've finally fixed my overheating problem (although MSI has yet to return my call.)
The GNB Max-FISR board defaults the Voltage under the "Frequency/Voltage Control" to 1.75.  Apparently the max for the 3.06 Intel chip is 1.5.
Also, I had not applied thermal compound to the chip when attaching the heat sink.
After performing both functions the chip running full out hangs out around 60 degrees C.  This information REALLY should be in FAQ!!!

it is a 350W power supply..
The DBraket reports all red in 1,3,4 and a green in 2..  the manual claims that the system will hang there if the memory module is bad or installed improperly..
i can't imagine that the memory is bad, since it's brand spanking new..  and i've seated and reseated them a thousand times..
do I have the wrong memory?
I have DDR266 PC2100..  the manual seems to suggest that it might only support DDR533 or DDR400..

  • Bluetooth in GNB-Max FISR

    Hello Everyone,
Has anyone in this NG used the onboard bluetooth interface with success?
It's not clear in the MB documentation if the onboard Bluetooth chip is ready to communicate with surrounding Bluetooth devices, or it requires an extra piece of hardware.  I installed the Bluetooth software, and configured it, but it still doesn't communicate with my other GNB-Max FISR desktop via Bluetooth.
I'd appreciate it if anyone can post the part/model number for any additional devices to make bluetooth work on this MB.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I've got the Bluetooth Extension working in my Computer. I had to order it by mail - it cost me about $25 (which is cheaper than a regular USB dongle). It worked without problems, the antenna even extends the working radius quite a bit. The driver (which you have to download - no disk included!) is a regular WIDCOMM stack. No PAN or headset operation with this driver(yet).

The only real problem is that it takes up a slot in the back of the pc and has a strange layout that makes it difficult (at least in my case) to fit it without scratching the board. But I had these problems with the other MSI Brackets as well. Please, MSI, make them thinner!!
    Cheers.

  • GNB MAX FISR processor upgrade

I installed a 3.06G P4 to replace the 2.8G chip I originally built it with.  Now, control panel shows 2 installed P4 3.06 chips, and the pc blue screens at shutdown, with IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL followed by a bunch of hex data, then it reboots.  Have "live updated" everything.  Microsoft says it is a graphics driver issue.  Running latest NVidia drivers 6693 version.  Any ideas out there?

Since I went through the same trouble while upgrading a 2.66 P4 to 3.06HT P4 on Gnb Max, the followings could help.
Most probably your trouble is due to hyperthreading capability of 3.06 P4. Since you have two processors in the control panel, you already have it activated. To verify this, you can go to BIOS and disable hyperthreading. If the problem goes away,  the trouble is really due to hyperthreading.
After verfying that hyperthreading is the problem enable it again because it is a very nice thing to have. You can rectify the problem by checking a couple of things.
    - First, make sure that the following is true: Device Manager -> Computer -> ACPI Multiprocessor PC. Otherwise you can change it to ACPI Multiprocessor yourself by updating the driver if you go to Properties. Reboot and check if the problem is resolved.
    - If the problem is still there, uninstall your graphics driver and switch to Standard VGA, reboot and reinstall the Nvidia driver. If the problem still persists after doing this, you might need to reinstall Windows. But I think the above two things should resolve the problem, I did not need to reinstall Windows on my system.
    Good luck

  • MSI GNX MAX-FISR P4, RAID Controller

I just ordered and received a MSI GNX MAX-FISR P4 motherboard, and I have  a question.  My impression is this has a RAID controller, yet P. 2-18 of the manual suggests that I can only connect ONE hard drive to IDE3, the raid controller. THis doesn't make sense to me--by definition a RAID controller must support 2 or more hard drives.  Is IDE3 a standard IDE connection and RAID is only via serial ATA?

wonkanoby is right.  he and i had this conversation a few days ago.  in addition, i called msi last night and confirmed it.  if you have 2 IDE drives that you want to RAID on this board, then you can hook one of the drives into IDE3, but you must use an SATA-to-IDE converter for the other drive (and hook it into one of the SATA ports).
i wish they would have clarified that a little more in the product description page on MSI's website.  but it's a super board!  very easy to set up.

  • Msi 655 max fisr ht ready: does it have fsb800 support?

i own msi 655 max fisr mobo, that supports ddr333 and fsb 533 as msi says. but it can handle also ddr 400 through overclocking and the bios has an option for fsb selection up to 250 mhz. according to me, this meens that one can use a cpu at fsb 800 by overclocking the mobo from the bios, even if it doesn't support the microcode of the cpu. does anyone have tested this statement, as at the time it is onlu speculation by me, as it is too expensive for my to buy new cpu and try it.
moreover, my revision of the mobo is stepping b0, thus it supports ht cpus and if it proves to support fsb 800 by overclocking, then i can keep it for a while, upgrading my system only with new cpu. i'll be thankful if anyone can provide me with some information on this topick.

What I am trying to explain is the downclocking of a DDR 400 RAM 1st to 333 Mhz then try to o/c to get DDR 400 or above, not saying that you are wrong.
Any board can support o/c'ing but it is all up to whether the hardwares that you have and their capability to do so as no one can actually determined whether or not the hardwares that you have will definately let you ends up the way it's really meant to be as there's always important facts being left out so it's always trial and error...
I have 2 of these systems running on the same mobo, but the highest I can reached with DDR 400 RAMs are just near DDR 400 not exactly 400 MHz and FSB are at near 170 quad = 170 x 4 = 680FSB... from a FSB 533 CPU. Both have different results as 1 is with DDR 333 RAMs o/c'ed to 380MHz on 2.8 B CPU and another with DDR 400MHz down to 333MHz then o/c'ed up to near 400Mhz on 2.8B CPU also...

  • So does the AGP/PCI lock work or not??

I have read many contridicting reports as to whether the AGP/PCI lock actually works on the K8N Neo Platinum.
Some say yes, some say no, some say setting it to 67 in the bios enables the locks.  Does anybody actually know for sure, and not rely on that Clockgen thingy??  Also, if it must be set to 67 for sure, will this be addressed in a future bios release??
I am currently a bit scared to begin overclocking when I hear about RAID sets dropping out on the account of unlocked buses on a board that is supposed to have locked buses.....

I heard if you changed the AGP bus to 68 it will still lock but you will get much better overclocking results...

  • AGP/PCI Lock

I just wanted to know if there is a working agp/pci lock for the K9t NEO-fis2r out yet.  If not, does anyone know when this might be included in a bios revision, or is it just a pipe dream?
