Msi gt60 domainator 424 gaming! PLEASE ANSWER

Hi everyone ! I just bought my new gaming laptop the MSI GT60 2PC Domainator 424
GTX 870m 3 GB Version
8 GB Ram
i7 4810mq
1 TB HDD
SO i wanna ask that what is the best to play...with
plugged in AC adapter or AC removed (battery life) ??
Because when the AC Adapter plugged in i see tempreture more than when i am playing on battery life about 10 dgree
but battery stay for 1 hour when playing !
Also i want to ask what is the safe tempreture when i am playing and what's the danger tempreture ?
Thanks in advanced

When gaming it is recommended to keep your power supply plugged in.
Temperature should stay around 93 Celsius give or take on full load for gpu and around 80-90 for cpu.  When they get above 93 Celsius they will throttle down.
At 100 Celsius or higher it will shutdown to protect against overheating.

  • MSI GT60 Dominator 424 - Low Frame Rates

Hi fellow MSI fans!! Just got my MSI GT60 Dominator 424 packed with 4800MQ and the nvidia GTX870M.Sadly i noticed very low fps on all games. Battery mode set a high performance. GPU selected as 870M and not the intel while gaming. GPU setting all set to optimal values(No AA or Vsync).
    Dota 2 : 65-75 Fps
    Starcraft 2 HoS : 35-65 fps
Only 2 games tried so far. In game settings - Ultra with no AA.
Is there an fps limitation in the nvidia Drivers or is something else wrong??
Not able to enjoy gaming :( My other laptop with gtx560M performs better

I tried the msi driver no difference in performance from the latest driver, Also repasted the GPU & CPU with IC Diamond 24 to reduce heat and fan noise got about 3-5 degree improvement (90c) while using FurMark. 800 series isn't living up to its reputation
Try to set the ‘javaw.exe’ to run on NVIDIA GPU. This will improve the FPS of Minecraft.
Minecraft is running by ‘javaw.exe’ and since it’s not actually a game's .exe file, NVIDIA Control Panel can't detect it and it'll be running by Intel GPU.

  • MSI GT60 Destroyer 424 Mic Problems

    Hello everyone,
I picked up a MSI GT60 online from Best Buy a couple of weeks ago. I have been searching the forums, reddit, etc. for posts about the internal mic having issues with buzzing all time.
I would really like to find a way to fix this, because using the built in microphone would make the most sense. Otherwise, I figured (from what I read) that I would have to purchase a USB headset.
Does anyone have any workarounds or tips on how to improve the quality of the built in microphone or reduce the static/buzz noises?
    Thanks for your time.

First thing I'd try is the EC reset procedure.
    1. Turn off computer
    2. remove AC adapter
    3. remove battery
    4. leave laptop alone for 10 minutes
    5. install battery
    6. install AC
    7. Turn on computer and see if it's fixed
This isn't guaranteed to fix it, but it's a start.
By the sound of it though, there might be more issues than just a simple EC reset.
If the EC reset doesn't fix it, then I would contact MSI and possibly consider an RMA.

Hi. Could I get the latest UEFI GOP VBIOS for my MSI R9 270 2G GAMING please?
    Serial number:602-V305-03SC1403016731
    Current VBIOS:https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/68221291/Pitcairn.rom
    Many thanks

Yes, you can. Use the attached.
Decompress the attached .rar archive with Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Create a bootable usb stick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0).
Then unpack the previously provided archive (100.rar) and put the included file (TV305MH.100) on that stick.
Rename TV305MH.100 to 100.rom. Put the atiflash.exe also included in the archive provided on the USB stick too. Now boot from the stick.
Type atiflash -p -f -noaper 0 100.rom [ENTER] and let it flash the vbios.

We put all the accessories together and boot up to check further detail on GT60 Dominator Pro 3K IPS version! The display quality is vivid.
Let’s take a look on the detail spec., 384GB SSD Super RAID, Intel Core i7 4800MQ @ 2.7GHz, top level GTX880M 8GB GDDR5 graphics, 32GB RAM. It’s all top level and could use for 3 more years of ultra-quality games!
When first time to use MSI gaming notebooks, you will feel amazing about the SteelSeries keyboard is really good typing feeling and solid based. It comes with multi-color backlit and move the windows key to right side, that really professional design as a gaming notebook keyboard, and the only one with real gaming design.
Take a look in the SteelSeries Engine, the exclusive gaming software only for MSI gaming notebooks. This macro keys software built in Keypress macro, Text macro, 1 key launch program and Disable key function, besides F1~F12, all other keys could be used for macros setup, and 4 layers of keyboards o setup 4 sets of macros with 4 sets of different backlit combinations, so this is really a great software for smarter and stylish gaming experience.
With CPU-Z tool to check, the upgraded Intel Core i7 4800MQ @ 2.7GHz, TDP 47W, 4 Cores 8 Threads is really great performance, CPU Boost could up to 3.5~3.7GHz.
Because of Core i7 4800MQ and GTX880M, the 3D benchmarks comes with breakthrough scores than ever on the notebook platform, 3D Mark Fire Strike: P5351 pts.
The GT60 Dominator Pro on 3D Mark 11 gains P8461 pts, it’s whole new level of the gaming notebooks, and It’s over 15% faster than GTX780M!
The 3D Mark Vantage boost up to P33115 scores, it’s 14% faster than GTX780M!
Then we check on other software of DirectX11 3D performance, the Heaven Benchmark is world’s 1st software tool to test DirectX11 effects, this time we use Heaven Benchmark version 3.0 to test.
Set the Tessellation on normal to enable DirectX11 effects and run Benchmark, the Full HD resolution could get 78.2 FPS(Frames Per Second) high score result.
Since this GT60 is 3K IPS panel edition, of course we have to try 3K resolution, you could see that the result block is smaller at 2880x1620 resolution, the result is 42.7 FPS with same setup, so we could say that 3K resolution will reduce over 45% of the FPS rate in this test, but GTX880M is too powerful, so still over 40FPS, and most games we need to get over 30 FPS to play and feel smoother, at least 20 FPS to play a game, if lower than 20 FPS, that will makes people feel lag obviously and feel dizzy easily.
Since we tried some benchmark, of course we have to try at least a famous game to the real world experience. Battlefield 4, the biggest FPS game title since end of 2013, is one of the heaviest loading games on PC platform.
First we made Battlefield 4 detail at 1920x1080 with Ultra Graphics Quality setup.
The gaming frames is 46 FPS, really smooth and around 20% faster than GTX780M.
Once we tune up the resolution to 2880x1620, the FPS drops a lot because the Ultra mode also set 4xMSAA (Anti-Aliasing), that will impact the performance a lot in higher resolution, also make graphics memory demand around 3GB~4GB, seems the 8GB GDDR5 with GTX880M is prepared for upcoming games with such as 3K or even higher resolutions!
We could see it’s about 24~28 FPS under 3K resolution with Ultra Graphics Quality, most time it will reduce over 40% FPS rate of the gaming performance.
Seems to set the Battlefield 4 with “High” graphics quality on 2880x1620 resolution is more suitable to play the game smoother in every theme.
It’s about 42 FPS, close to the 1920x1080 Ultra graphics quality. So if we want to play heavy loading games at 2880x1620 resolution, set to High graphics quality setup is a good option for 3K gaming!
After these 3D and gaming tests, let’s take a look on the temperature of the cooling system. The room temperature is 25 degree C, the temperature of fan out part is 71.2 degree C, it’s not a surprise because of GTX880M and Core i7 4800MQ, even it’s a bit lower than most gaming notebooks with this 2 combinations. The palm rest and keyboard side is 30.6 degree C, it’s really cool for users to hands on.
After the fabulous experience of great 3D performance, let’s take a look on the benefits of “Super RAID 2”, normal 2.5” HDD is about 80~100MB/s, single SSD is about 400~550MB/s, BUT, GT60 Dominator Pro boost over 1536MB/s and average is 1477MB/s, that’s 15x faster than single HDD, almost 3x faster than single SSD.
If we check on the AS SSD Benchmark tests, you could see more detail of the storage access performance is amazing, the Sequential read is 1116.76MB/s, write is 786.79MB/s. 4K-64Thrd read is 665.09MB/s, write is 461.18MB/s, it’s ultra fast!
The GT60 Dominator Pro 3K IPS edition comes with Killer Doubleshot LAN and WiFi, it provides faster response time of gaming experience, when you at different LAN/WiFi environment, Killer software will ask you to make an internet speed test, this will fine tune your LAN/WiFi for smoother and faster online experience.
MSI also got a new software tool called “Dragon Gaming Center”, this tool is also good for hardware monitor and utility launch tool. Also could show the status of Hybrid Power enable or disable.
The ultimate weapon for enthusiast gamers:
The GT60 2PE Dominator Pro 3K IPS version is extremely powerful, it comes with most of the features that a great gaming notebook could have, 3K IPS panel is really great effect of vision quality, SteelSeries keyboard with SSE is amazing for gamers to play their games smarter, Sound By Dybaudio present really good detail sound quality, Killer Doubleshot is faster for online gaming, of course the GTX880M is awesome for gamer to play Full HD even 3K resolution games, the backlit of Dragon logo and keyboard is really beautiful.
    Conclusion:
The overall score I will give this GT60 2PE Dominator Pro 3K IPS edition with Super Pack is 95 out of 100, this is really great machine for any hard core gaming or power user usage, I would recommend any one to must-have this notebook if it’s affordable for you!!

Ok either you work for MSI or you changed the settings in 3dmark11. I only scored around 5K with my GT60 2PE 3k. Any idea why I'm scoring 3k below you? Laptop was plugged in btw. Also how can you enter bios settings with this laptop? I suspect that maybe the hybrid gpu thing is affecting my score, and the Pc is probably not fully utilizing the GTX 880M, maybe in bios I can disable the integrated CPU's video card??? Please let me know. Thanks.

  • MSI GT60 display switches off itself

I have a msi GT60 dominator 870m .... when i am playing games i am always connected to my monitor and tv... sometimes after playing a little while suddenly both external monitors lose display and everything hangs ...... after 3 or 4 minutes it correctz itself .... i think my laptop is throttling or something .... i had my turbo boost on as well .... i noted the temp of GPU which was 90c ..... what can i do to prevent this ? This is so annoying when playing games like LOL, dota
looks like MSI does not play test or something .... what is the use of having GAMING laptop when it cant play GAMES ....
anyways do i need to repaste or something .... i don't want to lose my warranty
Hdmi port connects to my 24 inch monitor and mdp1 connects to my tv... my laptop display is off... tv and monitor are on duplicate mode ...
so when this issue happens laptop display switches on, tv and monitor loses display and everything is in a hanged state ... 3 minutes later ... both my tv and monitor switches back on and everything works again ..so this makes me think its switching from nvidia gpu to integrated gpu for some reason....
My vbios is latest as well 80.04.F7.00.06
    nvidia version : 340.52
    Intel : 10.18.10.3652.
Is there any fan control software or something

    Hello,
First of all, in order to tell you if repasting will void your warranty, I have to know the country you live in.
    I live in USA.

Temps are high, so that's the most likely the issue. LoL and Dota are not demanding games; can you please run Intel Burn Test (single pass) while recording temps (with HWInfo). If it passes, then run some GPU benchmark like Kombustor and monitor HWInfo temps too.
Did Intel burn test with standard and maximum both were successful, Max temps were 93c
Also ran Kombuster for  25 minutes, max temp was 94 c again no issues.

MSI can't test every single laptop that comes out of the production line, can they? At least brands that make condoms don't test every single that is made
Come on condoms come with an inherent risk and a warning that it has a chance to fail , also you are comparing a 1$ item with 1500$ product?

No fan control available for notebooks, sadly.
There is a custom software for old generation laptops, some fan control utility, which changes the fan speed profiles, not sure if we have one for the new generations.. motherboard is same as old so it may work for my laptop as well but i am not sure ... was hoping if i could increase the fan speed i could get the temps down.

  • Changing keyboard colors in MSI GT60 2PC series under Linux

    Hi,
I intend to buy myself a laptop and I just would love to get one of MSI GT60 series but the thing is... I'm a nerd [']... ;(
I will use Linux Debian or Gentoo on it and want to ask you about the compatibility with penguin. This multi-colored keyboard is great I love it but will I be able to customize it under Linux? What about other drivers?
Yeah I know installing linux on gaming laptop is stupid but oh well. :P
    Thanks in advance

I did run Linux Mint on my GT70 for a while, and as you may know Linux handles drivers in a different way to Windows.I didn't need any drivers at all to make the system functional,or indeed any system I have installed Linux on so far.I did download proprietary drivers for the Nvidia card but that was it. As for the keyboard, and in my case the S-Bar I didn't find any drivers for them, but then again I didn't really need them.
Linux didn't stay on it for long though,as a gamer I was limited by what was available for the OS.
If you want to see what your system runs like on Linux without upsetting the current OS try a 'Live'  USB boot of any flavour of Linux, but you may know that already anyway if you are into it.

    Conclusion
26 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. Only 10 are included in this report. 2 third party drivers have been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:
atikmdag.sys (ATI Radeon Kernel Mode Driver, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.)
atikmpag.sys (AMD multi-vendor Miniport Driver, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.)
If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination the errors that have been reported for these drivers and include the brand and model name of your computer as well in the query. This often yields interesting results from discussions from users who have been experiencing similar problems.
Read the topic general suggestions for troubleshooting system crashes for more information.
Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further.

  • MSi GT60 motherboard burned. Help!

Hello, I have a MSI GT60 0NC-004US that I bought on ebay in dec. 2013. After a couple months of having it, the dc jack started getting "loose," and only charged if the cord was in exactly the right position. Eventually, one day I was using the laptop when all of a sudden there was a puff of smoke, and the laptop stopped charging. It still worked perfectly fine except it wouldn't charge. So I sent it to a place to get the dc jack repaired and this is what they said:
    Quote
we took the laptop apart and i was taking it apart, i was already noticing that cold burnt smell and i look at the dc jack area and its burnt right through the board. This board unfortunately is not repairable. Once you plug in the dc jack, it'll spark and eventually catch on fire. Another issue is that we can't find this board anywhere on the internet. All vendors are overseas and asking $430 for the board, which is insanely expensive. Please get back to me and let me know if you have any ideas or what your thoughts are. thanks.
Does anyone have any advice? The model number of the motherboard, I believe, is 16F31.

Check storages jumper settings attached to Marvel Ctrl.
Mine's a G33M Motherboard v1. The Samsung DVDRW and Seagate 80GB are connected using a single IDE cable to the lone IDE port. The 2 SATA HDD are connected to the SATA 1 & 2 ports respectively.
These are my current BIOS settings for the storage:
-> STANDARD CMOS: All SATA settings (LBA/DMA/SMART) are in AUTO
-> ADVANCED BIOS: IOAPIC Function is enabled
    -> BOOT SEQUENCE: 1st-Samsung DVDRW 2nd-Seagate 80GB
-> ON-CHIP ATA DEVICES: PCI-IDE BusMaster is enabled / RAID Mode is IDE

  • MSI GT60 review for music production (former MacBook Pro user)

Due to the upgrade limitations of MBPr (Macbook Pro Retina) I decided to try Windows after 7 years of using OSX. I chose the MSI GT60 over a Mac product by a close Margin and I still have doubts about windows 8.
    The GT60
    The hardware:
    1. The casing - coming from a Mac, this casing is disappointing. It's not cool, sexy or anything. It's "plastiky" and the design looks like something from the late 90s. you're not impressing any chicks with this one and it's nothing I'd take to Starbucks.
    2. The Keyboard - Excellent. It has a nice feel and the lights are kinda cool, but don't make up for the ugly design.
    3. The Mouse pad - too small and cheap looking. It tries to hang with a MBP mouse, but it's not as responsive and fluid.
    4. Connections - I can't think of any other connections I would want.
    5. Ram Capacity - Blows away the Mac at 32GB. This comes in handy for music projects loaded with plugins and is one of the major reasons I went for this box over a Mac.
    6. Super raid 2 - This is another cool option Apples don't have in their laptops. The ability to add 3 ssds in addition to another storage drive really makes this a lucrative music machine. Loading samples quickly greatly improves workflow.
    7. Screen - This screen is good, but vs a retina...well...you know.
    8. Optical drive - Mine is ...strange...sometimes it works sometimes it don't. Maybe w firmware update will fix it?
Performance - I loaded a Cubase project that even my Older 12 core Mac Pro had to wrestle with. That Mac Pro had 40GB of ram. Well, this GT60 pass with flying colors and with the most resource hungry plugins loaded it operated at an average of 60% CPU and 10 of the 12 GB of ram. I'm interested to see if more ram may help improve performance and/or reduce CPU usage.
Heat Myth - I read in other forums (and ofcourse ASUS) of the
so called" heating issues with the MSI Laptops. I do believe, by theory the ASUS gaming box may run cooler, but all the jibba jabba of overheating I never experience. The GT60 is not loud and it's not hot.
Overall, I find this to be a cool laptop for music production but if I didn't need all the extra ram or drives I'd probably stick with a MBP. They look way cooler. If MSI had put this hardware inside of an enclosure like that GS70 (but bigger), It would be cool.

While this is a review, let me just comment on a few things....
Part of the reason that half of what you get is possible, is because of how large it is.
You wouldn't be able to get 3 mSATA SSD's if you didn't get a GT60/GT70.
You wouldn't be able to get 32 GB of RAM if you didn't get a GT60/GT70 (actually, I guess the GE60/GE70's can handle that too).
The GT series also has a more beefy video card that requires more cooling than the GE or GS series laptops.
Either way, the GT60 is a great notebook overall. The screen could be better, but it's not bad by any means either. Compared to many other similarly or higher priced notebooks, it's just as good or better IMHO.
The keyboard is actually very nice, and while the backlighting is somewhat gaudy at times, it's nice to be able to see the keys in the dark.
The biggest downfall (personally) is the screen hinge and the back of the screen and how flimsy it is. That's honestly  my biggest gripe about the notebook. I always feel or think I'm going to break the screen when I open or close the notebook.
Have you messed with the built in sound card at all? Got any thoughts on that?

  • MSI GT60 Too much heat issue ! help

    i have msi gt60 0nc (windows 8.1 x64 / i7-3610QM / gtx 670m / 16G ram / 1T hdd )
and when i play games the gpu and cpu temp retch 80c after less then one hour of gaming like need for speed rivals
and temp increases to reach more then that but i exit the game immediately to cool the gpu/cpu
my turbo and fan is on .. pls help me is that normal/safe or what  ?
    attaching some pic
    thanks

Depending on what model of GT60 you have, 90C isn't terrible.
If you go much higher than 95C I would start worrying, but 90C seems to be about the normal operating temperature of a newer (Core i7 4xxx series + GTX8xx series combo) GT60. Once you start going above 95C you're going to start throttling very quickly.....and that's not good.
Worst case you might want to repaste the CPU and GPU. This is a rather common problem on the notebooks.

  • MSI GT60 0NC Erratic Touchpad

I just purchased a GT60 laptop and there was an immediate issue with the touchpad. The cursor moves very erratically, often jumping from one place to another. Control is very limited. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the touchpad drivers including the latest synaptic drivers to no avail. I've run the laptop under safe mode and the problem persists. I've also done a full system restore and there has been no solution. I would greatly appreciate some advice as I am getting very discouraged with my new purchase, I'm starting to believe it is a hardware issue.

purchased my first MSI GT60 for business vs gaming due to many of the great features in June 2012 ... exchanged computers a few months later - not functioning properly.
Right now, I am very frustrated with MSI, after doing a lot of research into purchasing this "deluxe" laptop, I am regretting this selection and fed up for the wasted time - which I would like to charge back to MSI for lost productivity.
Not long into the 2nd MSI GT60 started to experience:
    a) cursor bouncing around - I don't have time to play "let's find the cursor" and once you find it, play "let's find what words/sentences it changed when it hopped elsewhere on the page".
    b) slowness!!! ???  how on earth with 12 G RAM, a brand spanking new i7 processor and 1 T hd - which had NO DATA transferred and stored on it (using external back up and 30 G usb) was it slow????
    c) " S bar stopped loading and working
    d) intel turbo booster stopped working
    e) my on screen keyboard stopped working
    f) mouse touch pad nor an external mouse was intermittently working ... when it felt like it, it would come around
    g) moving from WORD to EXCEL, the pages would temporarily freeze
    h) oddly I couldn't edit documents in WORD that I copied into, so I could highlight and color code.
    i) I tried to back up my Outlook emails - system could not find the .pst folder!
I took it in for a 1 year service check - what should have been guaranteed 5 business days turned into 9 days - not impressed.
They had to re-install Windows 7 and "apparently kept it to see if it would act up, of course a phone call would have been nice, except it didn't happen, not impressed.
NOW the cursor has some kind of dial that suddenly pops up AND TOTALLY FREEZES on the page ... no cando anything until "it" decides when the game has caused "enough" frustration.  This too is intermittent.  All is fine and you're working away and suddenly full tilt stop!
and it just did the NEXT thing that is driving me over the deep end ... the cursor suddenly CHANGES FONT SIZES .... ALWAYS SMALLER to TINIEST and this is where it stops - barely legible on the page and I can't find where the friggin' size thing is to change it or TURN IT OFF!
I have called the Tech twice now for the same problem and I have only had it back barely 3 weeks and I didn't even call him immediately when it started to happen!!
Today I was over the top when he told me to disable the mouse pad and see if that works ... it's a lap top .... if the mouse pad doesn't function, there's a problem.
To have these problems in the first year - it is DEFECTIVE!! and once again the voodoo Font Monster has taken over and I can barely see this script!
    Frustration and fed up!
My blood pressure is boiling beyond e
Sorry you had such a bad experience, but I highly doubt all this was caused by hardware.
Did you bother doing anything to try and troubleshoot the problem? Was the CPU overheating? Did you look at the temperatures?
A number of the problems you seem to indicate, really point more towards there being a very bad virus or trojan installed on it. That laptop shouldn't slow down that much, and even my GT70 (which has been flawless) works great and its nearly the exact same laptop.
I really think the problem is not as you suggest.
Lastly, the simple fact that a single user is having a problem like this, and it's not widespread, really is indicative of it being something due to the user and not due to the design/manufacture of the laptop, unless it's a heat problem with the CPU.

  • Hi Everyone Im New, Got Question About Upgrading MSI GT60 0ND With SSD

Hi Everyone I'm New, Got Question About Upgrading MSI GT60 0ND With SSD.
:welcome:So As I've stated I'm new here, or at least got a new MSI notebook.
Ive got the new MSI gt60 0ND with 750GB HD and 675 Ge-Force GTX , anyways to the bottom line.
I would like to Upgrade my computer with SSD that I bought and install the win8 on it, in order to speed things up, but I have encountered a few problems..
    1. there is no sticker on the back of the computer that gives information about the serial number of my windows 8...
    2. lets say in some magical way I could get the serial number out, can I use it to reinstall ? because Ive heard that you cannot use this CD key anyways unless you got a special win8 installation CD key from MSI because its MSI branded windows 8.
am I screwed    ? ?? ? I thought it is possible to upgrade with SSD but it seems like MSI made it very hard, I do not understand why they even putted the warranty void sticker on the expansion bay's .... WEIRD..
Please help !! Thanks in advance,
    David
