MSI GT60 ONE Dead GPU or Motherboard?

Hi guys
So I owned MSI GT60 ONE and it doesn't want to boot even into POST. The power button only flash then it turn off again, I remove my battery and only powers up with AC adapter or vice-versa it still the same. Then, I removed the GPU and try running it with integrated cpu it works normally. It boots into Windows, completed the prime torture test even playing games normally. All of the notebook features function normally so it seems clearly my gpu is died.
However what bothers me is from what I know, if a gpu is died it can still turn on and working even though showing no display at the screen or displaying artifacts, but this in my case it refused to boot. My question is, is it the GPU only that died or there might be some problems in the motherboard? Because if I buy a replacement GPU, Im afraid to encounter any problems in the future.  Sadly and very unlucky, my warranty is expired last month  and I dont have any GPU spare to test it.
Thanks any help is really appreciated

I would contact MSI about this.

The MSI GT60 0NE isn't that old, it should still be under warranty.

Can you unlock cpu multiplier, memory tweaks, cpu throttling,PPU Dsable etc with this latest bios from msi? And also can you update the OROM to the latest ver?

The other options i mentioned is found on this link

But Wait... does the bios matter between MSI GT60-onc vs MSI GT60-one? Because when i upgraded my laptop to 680M. In bios it shows MSI GT60-ONE. SO the link above is for MSI GT60-ONE version.

  • MSI GT60 2OC - Is my GPU Dead?

    Hello,
I bought MSI GT60 2OC few days ago and it seems that there is something wrong with the main GPU. I've noticed poor performance in game and when I try to update nvidia drivers I got a message that the hardware cannot be found. When I try to acces the nvidia control panel I got a message the user do not use a monitor connected to NVIDIA graphic card. What should I do? I bought it in Poland few days ago (I'm in UK now and it would be expensive to send it back to the store). I live in Coventry and I found following address on the MSI website:
    United Kingdom
    D&J HENRY LTD,
Address: Unit 3B Quinn Close, Seven Stars Industrial Estate,Coventry CV3 4LH
    Tel:(024) 76886800
    Fax:(024) 76886801
Can I just take it there to get it fixed? It's just few miles from my place.
Or maybe I need to install something/update windows 8?
I'm using original OS and all drivers from the cd that I got with the laptop (used one touch instalation).
    Regards
    Greg

    Try those drivers.
Most likely the problem is either the computer isn't switching to the NVidia card when the game is launched, or the GPU/CPU are overheating and throttling back. This could be caused by bad thermal compound or it being installed incorrectly (which isn't unheard of).
I manage to install it but still can't access the nvidia panel and can't even get through borderlands 2 menu.
Tomorrow I will call msi support and hopefully they will be able to get it fixed. Anyone already tried this UK warranty repair service based in Coventry?

  • MSi GT60 motherboard burned. Help!

Hello, I have a MSI GT60 0NC-004US that I bought on ebay in dec. 2013. After a couple months of having it, the dc jack started getting "loose," and only charged if the cord was in exactly the right position. Eventually, one day I was using the laptop when all of a sudden there was a puff of smoke, and the laptop stopped charging. It still worked perfectly fine except it wouldn't charge. So I sent it to a place to get the dc jack repaired and this is what they said:
    Quote
we took the laptop apart and i was taking it apart, i was already noticing that cold burnt smell and i look at the dc jack area and its burnt right through the board. This board unfortunately is not repairable. Once you plug in the dc jack, it'll spark and eventually catch on fire. Another issue is that we can't find this board anywhere on the internet. All vendors are overseas and asking $430 for the board, which is insanely expensive. Please get back to me and let me know if you have any ideas or what your thoughts are. thanks.
Does anyone have any advice? The model number of the motherboard, I believe, is 16F31.

  • MSI GT60 - Clicking sound from GPU area

Hey guys, maybe someone has an idea what's happening here.
I purchased a MSI GT60-ONC (I'm pretty sure it's that model, anyways. GTX670m running Win764) at the end of August. Been running great, and love the machine, but within the last few weeks I've noticed a an occasional sound coming from the GPU side of the laptop. You know when you drop some sort of electronic device, and when you move it around you hear that little tiny piece inside moving around you know you shouldn't? That's frankly the best way to explain the sound....only I've never dropped, smashed, smacked, or done anything of the sort with it.
Right when I first started hearing it, I instantly assumed it was something to do with the GPU fan (And it could still be), but the sound even tends to happen occasionally when the fan is in a low power state. It's been happening more frequently now, but I've yet to notice any sort of negative impact on my machine otherwise...
Just not sure if I should be inquiring with tech support or what....:S
    **EDIT**
Side note, maybe related, maybe not. Recently I noticed my Turbo button wasn't working (The service is running though), just tried uninstalling/reinstalling and it still doesn't work...maybe something do to with the clicking sound? haha

Getting the same thing - a tiny click/blip sound. I actually hear it when the Mac starts up. It tends to make the noise just before an alert sound, but it appears to be intermittent - the MacBook is about a month old.
I'll keep an eye/ear out for it for now.

  • MSI GT60 dedicated GPU question

Hello everyone! This is my first post
Basically i have a MSI GT60 2OC-003US, i have two questions regarding it.
First, I just bought a 27" monitor to plug into my notebook via HDMI. Now I have heard that the dedicated GPU (Mine is the GeForce GTX 770M) is not meant to be used at all times, however, when i plug in my HDMI to the monitor, the power light goes from white to orange indicating that the dedicated card is being used. Is there any way to make it so that it uses my integrated card instead of my dedicated? I am going to have my monitor connected at all times so i don't want it to be running off of my GTX.
And also, if i am gaming or have a monitor plugged in, and i stop gaming or unplug the monitor, the orange light should go back to being white since the dedicated gpu related programs are closed, yet it still stays orange? Wondering how i can fix that.
    Thank you lots!

GT60 2OC outputs video signal via dedicated GPU circuit. It's the hardware design. You can't change this architecture.
There're lots of processes using dedicated GPU out of your notices. You can go to NVIDIA Control Panel, find Desktop menu and check "Display GPU Activity Icon in Notification Area" to enable the activity window to quickly monitor which processes are using the dedicated GPU.

  • MSI GT60 display switches off itself

I have a msi GT60 dominator 870m .... when i am playing games i am always connected to my monitor and tv... sometimes after playing a little while suddenly both external monitors lose display and everything hangs ...... after 3 or 4 minutes it correctz itself .... i think my laptop is throttling or something .... i had my turbo boost on as well .... i noted the temp of GPU which was 90c ..... what can i do to prevent this ? This is so annoying when playing games like LOL, dota
looks like MSI does not play test or something .... what is the use of having GAMING laptop when it cant play GAMES ....
anyways do i need to repaste or something .... i don't want to lose my warranty
Hdmi port connects to my 24 inch monitor and mdp1 connects to my tv... my laptop display is off... tv and monitor are on duplicate mode ...
so when this issue happens laptop display switches on, tv and monitor loses display and everything is in a hanged state ... 3 minutes later ... both my tv and monitor switches back on and everything works again ..so this makes me think its switching from nvidia gpu to integrated gpu for some reason....
My vbios is latest as well 80.04.F7.00.06
    nvidia version : 340.52
    Intel : 10.18.10.3652.
Is there any fan control software or something

    Hello,
First of all, in order to tell you if repasting will void your warranty, I have to know the country you live in.
    I live in USA.

Temps are high, so that's the most likely the issue. LoL and Dota are not demanding games; can you please run Intel Burn Test (single pass) while recording temps (with HWInfo). If it passes, then run some GPU benchmark like Kombustor and monitor HWInfo temps too.
Did Intel burn test with standard and maximum both were successful, Max temps were 93c
Also ran Kombuster for  25 minutes, max temp was 94 c again no issues.
    Quote
MSI can't test every single laptop that comes out of the production line, can they? At least brands that make condoms don't test every single that is made
Come on condoms come with an inherent risk and a warning that it has a chance to fail , also you are comparing a 1$ item with 1500$ product?
    Quote
No fan control available for notebooks, sadly.
There is a custom software for old generation laptops, some fan control utility, which changes the fan speed profiles, not sure if we have one for the new generations.. motherboard is same as old so it may work for my laptop as well but i am not sure ... was hoping if i could increase the fan speed i could get the temps down.

Let’s take a look on the detail spec., 384GB SSD Super RAID, Intel Core i7 4800MQ @ 2.7GHz, top level GTX880M 8GB GDDR5 graphics, 32GB RAM. It’s all top level and could use for 3 more years of ultra-quality games!
When first time to use MSI gaming notebooks, you will feel amazing about the SteelSeries keyboard is really good typing feeling and solid based. It comes with multi-color backlit and move the windows key to right side, that really professional design as a gaming notebook keyboard, and the only one with real gaming design.
Take a look in the SteelSeries Engine, the exclusive gaming software only for MSI gaming notebooks. This macro keys software built in Keypress macro, Text macro, 1 key launch program and Disable key function, besides F1~F12, all other keys could be used for macros setup, and 4 layers of keyboards o setup 4 sets of macros with 4 sets of different backlit combinations, so this is really a great software for smarter and stylish gaming experience.
With CPU-Z tool to check, the upgraded Intel Core i7 4800MQ @ 2.7GHz, TDP 47W, 4 Cores 8 Threads is really great performance, CPU Boost could up to 3.5~3.7GHz.
Because of Core i7 4800MQ and GTX880M, the 3D benchmarks comes with breakthrough scores than ever on the notebook platform, 3D Mark Fire Strike: P5351 pts.
The GT60 Dominator Pro on 3D Mark 11 gains P8461 pts, it’s whole new level of the gaming notebooks, and It’s over 15% faster than GTX780M!
The 3D Mark Vantage boost up to P33115 scores, it’s 14% faster than GTX780M!
Then we check on other software of DirectX11 3D performance, the Heaven Benchmark is world’s 1st software tool to test DirectX11 effects, this time we use Heaven Benchmark version 3.0 to test.
Set the Tessellation on normal to enable DirectX11 effects and run Benchmark, the Full HD resolution could get 78.2 FPS(Frames Per Second) high score result.
Since this GT60 is 3K IPS panel edition, of course we have to try 3K resolution, you could see that the result block is smaller at 2880x1620 resolution, the result is 42.7 FPS with same setup, so we could say that 3K resolution will reduce over 45% of the FPS rate in this test, but GTX880M is too powerful, so still over 40FPS, and most games we need to get over 30 FPS to play and feel smoother, at least 20 FPS to play a game, if lower than 20 FPS, that will makes people feel lag obviously and feel dizzy easily.
Since we tried some benchmark, of course we have to try at least a famous game to the real world experience. Battlefield 4, the biggest FPS game title since end of 2013, is one of the heaviest loading games on PC platform.
First we made Battlefield 4 detail at 1920x1080 with Ultra Graphics Quality setup.
The gaming frames is 46 FPS, really smooth and around 20% faster than GTX780M.
Once we tune up the resolution to 2880x1620, the FPS drops a lot because the Ultra mode also set 4xMSAA (Anti-Aliasing), that will impact the performance a lot in higher resolution, also make graphics memory demand around 3GB~4GB, seems the 8GB GDDR5 with GTX880M is prepared for upcoming games with such as 3K or even higher resolutions!
We could see it’s about 24~28 FPS under 3K resolution with Ultra Graphics Quality, most time it will reduce over 40% FPS rate of the gaming performance.
Seems to set the Battlefield 4 with “High” graphics quality on 2880x1620 resolution is more suitable to play the game smoother in every theme.
It’s about 42 FPS, close to the 1920x1080 Ultra graphics quality. So if we want to play heavy loading games at 2880x1620 resolution, set to High graphics quality setup is a good option for 3K gaming!
After these 3D and gaming tests, let’s take a look on the temperature of the cooling system. The room temperature is 25 degree C, the temperature of fan out part is 71.2 degree C, it’s not a surprise because of GTX880M and Core i7 4800MQ, even it’s a bit lower than most gaming notebooks with this 2 combinations. The palm rest and keyboard side is 30.6 degree C, it’s really cool for users to hands on.
After the fabulous experience of great 3D performance, let’s take a look on the benefits of “Super RAID 2”, normal 2.5” HDD is about 80~100MB/s, single SSD is about 400~550MB/s, BUT, GT60 Dominator Pro boost over 1536MB/s and average is 1477MB/s, that’s 15x faster than single HDD, almost 3x faster than single SSD.
If we check on the AS SSD Benchmark tests, you could see more detail of the storage access performance is amazing, the Sequential read is 1116.76MB/s, write is 786.79MB/s. 4K-64Thrd read is 665.09MB/s, write is 461.18MB/s, it’s ultra fast!
The GT60 Dominator Pro 3K IPS edition comes with Killer Doubleshot LAN and WiFi, it provides faster response time of gaming experience, when you at different LAN/WiFi environment, Killer software will ask you to make an internet speed test, this will fine tune your LAN/WiFi for smoother and faster online experience.
MSI also got a new software tool called “Dragon Gaming Center”, this tool is also good for hardware monitor and utility launch tool. Also could show the status of Hybrid Power enable or disable.
The ultimate weapon for enthusiast gamers:
The GT60 2PE Dominator Pro 3K IPS version is extremely powerful, it comes with most of the features that a great gaming notebook could have, 3K IPS panel is really great effect of vision quality, SteelSeries keyboard with SSE is amazing for gamers to play their games smarter, Sound By Dybaudio present really good detail sound quality, Killer Doubleshot is faster for online gaming, of course the GTX880M is awesome for gamer to play Full HD even 3K resolution games, the backlit of Dragon logo and keyboard is really beautiful.
    Conclusion:
The overall score I will give this GT60 2PE Dominator Pro 3K IPS edition with Super Pack is 95 out of 100, this is really great machine for any hard core gaming or power user usage, I would recommend any one to must-have this notebook if it’s affordable for you!!

Ok either you work for MSI or you changed the settings in 3dmark11. I only scored around 5K with my GT60 2PE 3k. Any idea why I'm scoring 3k below you? Laptop was plugged in btw. Also how can you enter bios settings with this laptop? I suspect that maybe the hybrid gpu thing is affecting my score, and the Pc is probably not fully utilizing the GTX 880M, maybe in bios I can disable the integrated CPU's video card??? Please let me know. Thanks.

  • Not getting enough performance out of Msi GT60 0NC

Hello there guys! Since I've got my laptop I have been getting the feeling that I am not getting enough power out of my toy. I dont know if its me who have too big expectations about this laptop or it really should be performing better?:( I have done hours of research regarding drivers, graphic setup and not at least overclocking which seems to raise the performance quite a bit but it easily gets unstable. I am using Msi's preinstalled drivers as it seems like they give the best performance so far. I have also installed the modded Firmware from https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=162629.0 which works better than the original one from Msi. But still, i hear a lot of people playing demanding games on ultra with fps around 50-60. In bf3 I get around 40-60 on High with shadow on medium and post processing off, anti-aliasing off. Turbo is on + overclock. The performance in Gw2 is even worse.
So here is my question: am I expecting too much from the laptop or can I do something to improve it and make it run like a charm? Another question would be if it is possible to change powervoltage to get a higher overclock?
I would very much like to hear from u guys how your msi gt60 is performing:)
    Best regards, Mathias Kanstrup

Same here, Gt70 0NE + 680M; overclocking GPU core causes clockdowns so gains are minimal. Overclocking memory is successful upto about 2500MHz but gains are small as the memory isn't the restricting factor in preformance - or the effect is just minuscule. So mostly 2 to 8 % in benchmarks, max.
With extreme air cooling and a modified VBios, it's possible to get up to around 15%......I know this first hand.
I just don't care to do it since there's little point in pushing the hardware that hard regularly. Yes, it's great for bragging rights, but it's not useful for long term use unfortunately.
Overclocking the memory in the GTX675M might help a bit more than in the 680M. I'm not sure, I haven't really followed up on the other cards.

  • MSI GT60-75X485FD questions

    Hi,
I got a MSI GT60-75X485FD Notebook! It has 16F3EMS1.10U BIOS and 16F3EMS1.414 EC..
Is it possible to Flash UEFI BIOS? It was delivered with FreeDOS.. And can you mod BIOS and EC Firmware?
    Thanks in advance and regards

BIOS ID is not correct one
If you mean to Win7 BIOS, nope.
    depend, what kind of mods?
    1) Sorry, BIOS ID is 16F3IMS1.10U!
    2) I mean, I got Windows 7 BIOS and want to Switch to Windows 8 UEFI BIOS, I guess it doesn't work an may brick my Notebook..
    3) Ok Forget EC for now, is it right, that modding EC Firmware is for custom fan profiles? I think I'll try RWEverything first..
So in conclusion, can you provide me a BIOS with hidden options unlocked? Thank you
    Edit:
Sorry, if this is the wrong place, but I did further investigation regarding my fan problem.. In Windows (8.1) the fan is very loud (a few minutes after boot) while CPU usage is near 0! Only Thing I did, was take out the GTX 675MX so only Intel HD Graphics is used! I think it gets wrong info from GPU Fan Profile and so fan is allways at a high Level.. I tried Read Write Everything and the fan value is allways switching between 66 and 67, tried entering another value but it instantly Switches back to 66.. Is there a Special way Setting the value? I right clicked on it, "edit", and changed the value..

  • MSI GT60 2PC Dominator BIOS Update RAID0 problem

HI THERE , this is my first topic in msi forum and I hope you can solve my problem
I have the MSI GT60 2PC Dominator, my laptop came with FreeDOS with E16F4IMS.50Y non raid0 bios version (installed only one msata 128Gb), One day i upgraded my Laptop, I installed two more msata 128Gb. Now 384Gb Raid0 hard disk and i installed windows 8.1 64bit (Working UEFI mode).
I flashed the bios yesterday to the E16F4IMS.515 which is the latest one but it seems that it doesn't support the RAID0, i didn't care about that, i installed windows 8 but everyday i'm getting several problems with GPU and that blue screen and its really annoying.
So i tried to upgrade E16F4IMS.715 , But Flash_BIOS_by_UEFI_BIOS_Setup_Utility_e n.pdf this method not supported my laptop (Automatically restart after select bios file.), And i tried too EFI Shell mode bios update. But there is no Afuefix64.edi and FLASH.NSH files in New bios zip file. It has only E16F4IMS.715 file.
Now my question is How can i flash the bios to E16F4IMS.715?
Sorry for my bad English and i thanks for your corporation.

Hello and welcome to the forum!
Sadly there is only 1 person that is able to help you with flashing procedure, but also directing you to the right BIOS file, and it's Svet. You might have to wait a little bit, as you may already know, it's users to users forum, and we come up when we can and if we actually want to.
What way did you flash the BIOS?
I used EFI BIOS utility method. I chose BIOS file and when i click OK button ,  it starts normally after 20-30sec. it doesn't update bios. How ever it works on E16F4IMS.515 (Non-RAID) bios updated successfully. But not working E16F4IMS.715 (RAID0) bios.

Depending on what model of GT60 you have, 90C isn't terrible.
If you go much higher than 95C I would start worrying, but 90C seems to be about the normal operating temperature of a newer (Core i7 4xxx series + GTX8xx series combo) GT60. Once you start going above 95C you're going to start throttling very quickly.....and that's not good.
Worst case you might want to repaste the CPU and GPU. This is a rather common problem on the notebooks.

  • MSI GT60-0NC-004US BIOS UNLOCK Request

    Dear Svet,
I’m Brazilian and I own a MSI GT60, I bought it at EUA in August 2012.
I’ve searched a lot about GPU upgrades and  I’d like to try.
However I’d like to talk with one of the best in BIOS mod, and this guy are you.
I’d like to update my currently GTX 670M to a 970M.
It’s not sure, First I need to buy this card here in Brazil, since there’s a probability that the card fail.
But in parallel I’m talking with you about the BIOS update that I’ll need anyway.
    Current BIOS: E16F3IMS.10U
    Current EC: 16F3EMS1.414
    My GT60 came with Windows 7 pre-installed
Is this BIOS the latest available for it?
Is there any safe way to update the BIOS to the Windows 8 Version?
Because I’ve heard about the BIOS version E16F3IMS.51X and its compatibility seems to be better.
Do I need to update the firmware? Which version?
Is there any way to personalize the temperature x fan speed curve?
I’d like to set FAN speed to max above 75°C.
How much will this cost me?
Feel free to contact me via PM.
I’ll be waiting for you answer.
    Thank you very much.

  • BIOS MSI GT60 ONC mod for recognize VGA

Is it possible to mod BIOS for recognize GTX770M?
I'm not sure BIOS E16F3IMS.10U already supported this one.

My problems are HD4000 not fully function, stuttering graphics and kernel driver error every time I used 3D application or DirectX.
Even GPU-Z must open it twice to run.

eh bro you can google regarding your questions as this nb which i also have but with gtx680m can be upgraded to 780m. Try going to techinferno.com or with notebookreview.com. The card runs 100& on win7 from win8 and manage to successfully run the new mxm board with a little bios settings.
I hope this helps you with your new mxm board

(turning off the Secure Boot and switching from UEFI to Legacy in the BIOS) in order to get the card fully operational - otherwise all the drivers I have tried in my Windows 8 partition made the card unstable or simply Windows 8 unbootable (black screen).
