MSI GT60 with Vertex 4 SSD - Freezing, won't load Windows only in SATA III port

Hello,
New to the world of SSD's and trying to get my Vertex 4 to be able to operate at 6 Gb/s. I know that in my MSI GT60 that it has to be in port 1 because that is where the SATA III controller is, port 4 is just a SATA II. I was able to update the Vertex 4 to firmware version 1.5 and when it is plugged into port 4, no issues at all. It will run and take anything i throw it while running at 3 Gb/s in SATA II mode. My port 1 currently houses a 500gb Western Digital Scorpio drive.
As soon as i throw the Vertex 4 in port 1, issues arise. Sometimes i get a disk read error right after bios, sometimes it just freezes. On the latest Intel RST for my board, 11.2.0.1006 it can actually boot on occasion but 90% of the time freezes but still only reads 3 Gb/s when it does boot. It does the same thing in version 11.1.0.1006 and any older RST it just freezes or says disk read error and never boots.
I have my bios set to AHCI mode and i have tried the Vertex 4 by itself and also with the WD 500gb in the other port. When i switch back to Vertex 4 in port 4 and WD in port 1, no issues at all. Just trying to see if this is a known issue or anything else i can look at.  I made sure to break the RAID 0 and it was a clean install of windows 7 to the drive.
Running on bios E16F3IMS.10M.  The Vertex 4 is at its latest firmware as well.  I do have one PCI device i can't identify in Windows and thinking it might be the issue but can't narrow it down.  I have the Intel RST installed.
I also posted this on the OCZ forum and did their tips as well.
Thanks!
James

  • Satellite M55-s3293 won't load windows xp

my Satellite M55-s3293 won't load windows xp.  I press the power button, the fan runs for a few seconds, than I see the toshiba screen and it freezes.  I get a message to press f2 to enter setup, f12 for boot device selection menu.  I've gone into both menu's, to no avail.
If I wait for a minute or so, I get a message saying that windows did not start sucessfully .  I have options to start in safe mod, last known good config, or normally.  I've tried each of those selections, but get the same frozen toshiba screen with message to select f2 or f12.  my cd drive will not open to allow me to try a recovery disk.
Do you have any suggestions for me please.

Hello Jane and welcome in Toshiba forum
After reading your posting I must say that best and easiest solution for you is to reinstall operating system using original Toshiba recovery DVD. This DVD contains operating system, all necessary drivers, Toshiba specific tools and utilities. After recovery image installation you will have out-of-box state and clean preinstalled OS.
Yes, this should fix your problem. Please note: when you do this all saved data will be deleted.
Do you have some important data saved on your notebook?
If not use this disc reinstall Vista and everything should be ok again.

  • Satellite L300 laptop won't load Windows

I have a Satellite L300 model number PSLB0A-00L022 running windows Vista.
The problem is that it won't load Windows. It starts ok and I can access the boot manager and the setup utility and that's it. It just stops loading.
After researching the problem I ran a drive fitness test and the result was error code 0x70. After looking up the code Im under the impression that I need to erase the disk. I have no problem with that.
My question is - if I run the windows recovery wizard will it fix my problem? Will I have to re install vista at all? Any advice is appreciated!!

  • Re: Satellite L670D won't load windows

Hi, I have a toshiba L670D that recently had a windows update and since then, when ever I try to turn it on won't load windows, but just comes up with the error "fatal error c0000034 applying update operation 207 0f 102311 (_00000...)"
Is there anyway I can fix this myself, or is it a case of calling an expert or even going shopping for a new one?

Many thanks, but I cannot seem to open it in safe mode as it either tries to open in standard mode and fails with the error message or just goes into a self diagnostic mode and then comes up with a message to say that recently downloaded software cannot be loaded and to unplug it or call the system administrator.

    harix, welcome to the forum,
you do not state which notebook you have, this might be important. However, it may be that you just need to change your S-ATA settings in BIOS from AHCI to compatible mode.

  • P43 Neo3-F will not post with Vertex SSD attached

Without my OCZ Vertex SSD attached, my rev. 1.1 P43 Neo3-F with bios v2.4 acts like a normal mainboard. As soon as attach my Vertex SSD, it freezes during POST. If I bring up the boot menu during POST and pick the SSD, I get a blinking cursor and no post. I tried several of the regular SATA (non-Jmicron) ports but the same result.
Do I have to change the SATA mode on the SATA ports for an SSD to work? I think I remember seeing that your port should be set to IDE mode for this SSD in the OCZ forums. Can someone tell me where in the bios I could find this option? I'm having a lot of trouble finding stuff in this bios.
If that is not the case... there is one newer bios I could flash too. I read the directions and it says don't flash from floppy - which I've already done. Do I really have to go throught that RAMDRIVE stuff it discusses or is flashing from floppy okay as long as the floppy is "good". I know of the USB stick method but won't be using that.
But I have trouble believing that a P43 mainboard would be incompatible with an SSD. What's odd is that I didn't have this problem until I installed WinXP on the SSD. I could see that interfering with booting but why would that interfere with POSTing?

I flashed the bios to the very latest for the 1.1 version... the 2.5 bios but no help. I now have WinXP installed and it loads but the BIOS chokes on the SSD and there is a 25 second wait followed by about 10 second black screen and then the desktop just magically appears - no XP progress bar ever seen. Whenever the SSD is attached to the board, it lets out a strange chirp sound after the good post beep.
I tried installing XP on the SSD on my DFI Blood Iron and it works perfectly. I tried changing every related bios option on the MSI board I could find but nothing helps.
Anybody here running a Vertex on this board?

  • Rhyme freezes, won't load and is generally slow

I've had my Rhyme for a little over a year now and I have begun to hate it! At first the phone was great, it did everything I wanted and ran smoothly. Now it takes FOREVER for anything to load, if it loads at all, it constantly shuts itself off, reloads, freezes and is so slow now it's just a general pain to work with. Web pages rarely fully load they get to about 75% then just stop, same happens with upgrades or new installs sometimes.  Loading the camera takes long enough that spontaneous pics are impossible; games constantly freeze and/or run unbelievably slow and sometimes it won’t even let me answer an incoming call or make an outgoing one. I have restarted it umpteen times, cleared data, moved and uninstalled apps to no avail. I have 126 MB left in internal storage but some apps it won’t let me move to storage on my card which has 6.3 GB of memory left. I keep hearing from friends and family that I have to much stuff on the phone but given my memory amounts above I can’t believe that is possible and if it is than this phone holds squat!! As far as I can tell my software is up to date with version 2.20.605.13.71ORD so that is not the issue, I’m frustrated beyond belief and have to keep myself from throwing it across the room on a daily basis!

        jennbenn19,
Let's get your phone out of the ice age and unfreeze that Rhyme. Based on what you've described this could very well be a memory issue. To touch on that, applications cannot be moved to the SD card however you may wish to move other media or delete it all together to make sure memory isn't the case. Another thing I would recommend is safe mode http://vz.to/yAHjEJ . That will disable third party apps so you can know whether or not an app is threatening your device's performance. Please keep us updated.

  • PSE 6 - fixed the organiser to work with raw now editor won't load

Could use some pointers - tech savvy but no expert :-)
Couldn't get the organiser to work with CR2 files from the canon 50D. Download camera raw 5.4 plug-in. Deleted old version to remove the two entries in plug-in issue. Organiser seems to work as expected - except for the odd hang. When I now try to load the editor I get 'file not found'. Which file ?

Ok so I worked out how to get into recovery mode. Turns out I was doing it wrong! I used an external USB drive to access recovery mode.
I ran disk utility which identified and fixed some errors on the HD. I thought this might solve the problem but when I restarted the same problem occurred. I then restored my time machine backup which thankfully worked.
I tried installing mavericks again! Upon restarting and completing the install, I got the message 'OSX has been installed. Your computer will now restart'. After the countdown had finished I got the beach ball which span eternally again, just like last time. After about 10 mins I did a hard reset and again OSX won't load.
    Lame...

  • My MSI 880GMA-E45 won't load Windows 7 either?

I also cannot load Windows 7.  Locks up at "Starting Windows" while installing from DVD or USB stick.
Page Fault in Nonpaged Area. STOP: 0x00000050 (0xFFFFF88000FF8000,0x sixteen zeros, etc.)
Tried stock settings, safe settings-no O/C, etc.  This is with Win7x32 Prof., Enterprise or 64bit Prof. too.
Boots and runs off of Ultimate Boot CD & the Ubuntu live DVD, passes Memtest...
Funny thing is I was able to load Windows XP SP3 on it and it's idling with nothing installed at the moment.
Downloading the latest drivers for it now. Have the latest BIOS and turned most everything off except the HD and DVD drive & left everything on "AUTO."  *Using the onboard video with either vga or dvi with same results.
I had it loaded last night with xpsp3 and the drivers from the CD the board came with. (No Win Updates. Maybe I need all of them including the .NET framwork stuff, etc.)
Couple times, I got a STOP: 0x000000EA, (0x88F9E888, etc.)  ATI2DVAG  Beginning dump of physical memory.
ATI Video driver...Real late last night, I got a STOP: 0x0000007E etc. pointing to msrpc.sys   sound?
(It wants me to run XP or Ubuntu, that's kinda funny.... :azn:  This mobo has something against Windows 7)
I'm going get a PCI Express Video card tomorrow, install it and see what happens.
If you figure out a setting I'm missing, please let me know.  I'll check back later tonight and tomorrow at work.
    Thanks in advance, Robert

Thanks Svet for the tip.    One stick of ram booted and one did not.  I can't believe I had not tried that yet!!!  I have read that Windows 7 is picky about ram.
I had just purchased the mobo/chip combo, ram, hard drive & blu-ray/dvd from a Fry's B & M in town. It was raining here and the saved money was going to be spent! The price was right for the mobo combo.
I did not check the compatibility of the ram and the mobo which was a mistake.
After purchasing, I noticed on the ram package, that it says "for i5 & i7" and have also read about timing issues with AMD boards and some certain ram sticks.
Corsair's website has this ram listed as the value select line.  Not processor specific but lifetime warranty.  Maybe just a bum stick.
I'm bringing the ram back tonight. (Fifteen day return policy sticker on package.)  Not sure if I should swap for another package or not.  I'm checking to see what they have that could work better.
    Thanks again, Robert

  • 890FXA-GD70 bios update via Live Updat & now won't load windows...help pls

    Hi There
First off, please excuse the fact that I am not very experienced with the tech aspects of a home build (which this is & I bought off the builder), or any build for that matter..
I was getting a 'keyboard/interface' press f1 to continue error message, when I started my computer, along with most of the usb ports not working when windows 7 ultimate (64) sp1 (build 7601) loads.
    Otherwise it was working fine..
So I deceided to follow the instructions of the Live Update tool & used the total installer to update the bios from American Megatrends V1.10 06/30/2011 to the latest bios. I know now that wasn't very wise (why is it even an option if it can do soooo much harm?).
After it updated the bios there was a question (which I don't recall of course), something about ROM I think and not being the same, with 3 choices to correct it and I'm pretty sure I went with the 1st option for it to be corrected.
So now when I turn the computer on it starts loading everything (I can get in to the bios setup), right after it shows the windows logo it flashes a blue screen with some type on it & goes to windows startup repair which of course doesn't help & tries to do a system recovery which also doesn't work.
I don't want to do any more damage by fiddling around with things I know little about.
I was encouraged to read in one of the post answers that if it gets to the point where Windows goes to load than the mobo is ok...hopefully!
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

yes the BIOS controls the CMOS from that User interface with all the settings menus!
and yes its in there where you can see what Drive mode its set at!
if its using the older style BIOS like my board has and not a UEFI then in this heading set:
1: go into your BIOS (press Delete)
    2: Integrated Perifirals
    3: On-Chip ATA Devices
4: Raid Mode <--- the options for that should be in there if its the same and may have been set to IDE mode before the update but may be set to AHCI now after you flashed the BIOS via live update which is more then likely why your getting a BSOD as it in the wrong operating mode!

  • Bootcamp stopped working. Won't load Windows 7

I have a MacBook Pro, bought in Aug 2013, with Mavericks.  I have been using Bootcamp with Windows 7 64 bit for the programs that won't run on OSX.  Bootcamp has been working fine, but today I tried to use it to load Windows, but nothing happens.  Just a blank screen.  No cursor.  Nil.  I have tried several times but no success.  With Finder, I can see the Bootcamp partition and files, but can't access them through Bootcamp.  I have been thinking of changing to Parallels anyway since it is a pain to close down OSX and boot to Windows, and then reverse the process.  Any suggestions?

    Phillippcc,
as you can see at the link in my last reply, there are several different versions of the Boot Camp support software. The particular version which you’ll need depends on your particular model of MacBook Pro, which version of Windows 7 is on your Boot Camp partition (i.e. either 32-bit or 64-bit), and under which version of OS X the Boot Camp Assistant was first run. To be able to copy the directly downloaded software onto your Boot Camp partition, you will either need to have a FAT-formatted Boot Camp partition, or you will need to install OS X software that can write onto NTFS-formatted drives. (I think that OS X by default only allows read-only access to NTFS-formatted drives.) For me to provide full instructions very slowly to you, I’ll need to know which model of MacBook Pro you have, which version of Windows 7 you have, which version of OS X the Boot Camp Assistant was run under, and which format your Boot Camp partition filesystem uses.

The problem appears to be the drive (WD WD1002FAEX 1TB).
It is a firmware issue with the HDD (or the drive itself is faulty). WD may have a fix for it. Your revision is possibly a 01 series, & the 05 series work fine. I will search for the thread with the exact revisions details & edit my post with it.

They found that there are two versions of WD1002FAEX in the market. They are with firmware version either 01.01v01 or 05.01D05. The Marvell chipset can detect SATA III (6Gb/s) for the WD1002FAEX with 05.01D05 but only 3Gb/s for WD1002FAEX with 01.01v01.

  • Toshiba Laptop won't load Windows 7

Just now, my Satellite P755D-S5266 part no. PSAZ1U-001002 froze up on me while in the middle of browsing the net. The system became completely unresponsive and I had to do a hard reset. Upon restart I was prompted to do a system startup repair, which did not come up with any problems. However, when I try to start up again, the laptop is stuck at the loading Windows screen. It won't let me load safe mode and the only option I have to actually do any recovery in general is right after the startup repair. Is there anything I can do about this?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Several things to try. Run the following at the command prompt.
       chkdsk c: /r
If you can't boot Windows after that, run Startup Repair again.
If it still doesn't boot, come back for more.
