MSI GT660 Sound Problem (Win 7)

Hey guys, i recently decided to reformat my MSI GT660, so obviously something i have not installed correctly has caused this problem. I'm just not sure what. The sound works, it's just as i'm playing music in the background every now and then, it'll sound distorted and messed up for a few seconds, then go back to normal.
It keeps doing this, and it's really annoying. I tried reinstalling the Realtek HD audio driver, but no luck. Any ideas?

The sound is MP3? Internet?
Played with what player?
What do you do in the foreground?
100% CPU load can cause such too.
Your information is waaaaay to little to even start guessing.
Hmm yeah, guess i wasn't really thinking. Right, it's played using Spotify, i just tested with Winamp though and the same problem is there. So it's all kinds of sounds really. I don't think it's 100% CPU load cause i checked the core history and none hit 100%, also i'm only browsing the internet when this happens. So to answer the question of what i'm doing, not much really just opening new windows etc.
It never used to do this before i reformatted it, and it's only just started now. I don't think i noticed any sound problems when i was playing a game earlier though... i'll have to check that one out.

  • MSI GT660 Subwoofer Problems (Windows7)

Hi, i was hoping someone here could help me with a problem i have in windows 7 32bit
It seems when i installed the Realtek HD sound drivers for GT660 from MSI's site it cannot detect or see any subwoofer in the sound manager tools
But when i use the standard Microsoft HD sound drivers i can now see 3 "Speakers" in the Sound Manager, one that is disabled, another that is my subwoofer and a 3rd that is my front speakers, however i can only choose one of these in windows 7, so either i go full Subwoofer speaker or Full Front speakers (No Bass)
I also tried updating to the official Realtek drivers from Realtek's site and its the same as the drivers from MSI's site... no subwoofer detected, and no sound comes from the subwoofer. And it doesnt help choosing 5.1 or 7.1 settings in the Realtek HD-Audio Configuration, ive been testing all possible settings :(
Does anyone have simular problems and know how to fix this ?

SCM and all other software/drivers from MSI was already installed. I dont know of it was because i was running 32bit windows...
But after using the F3 Restore feature and putting it all back to the way it was when i bought it - it works.
Running 64bit windows with only 4gb ram isnt optimal tho ... but i can live with it as long as the subwoofer works, the sound is awsome.
ps. it still doesnt recognize that i have a subwoofer in any of the sound managers, but it seems to use my subwoofer as a part of the 2 front speakers.

  • MSI VOX Sound problem (not the buzzing)

    Hi,
I've looked through numerous threads and forums and havent been able to find the problem I'm trying to solve right now.
    Heres the situation.
I have recently bought a MSI VOX tuner box to help me record some older tapes from a camera. I plug everything in and when I playback i get both sound (from line in) and picture. Everything seems to be working perfectly fine but when I have recorded some footage from the camera and play it, theres no sound. I've tried everything (i think) and while I can hear the sound when I record it from the camera, theres no sound when I play the recorded data from my computer.
I've tried uninstalling all my codecs and installing them one by one while trying to record a bit before each new codec. Still doesnt work.
Using G-Spot to render the file i get the following result:
Any ideas? Its driving me crazy!

    well done
msi support is bad enough, but their software is made by intervideo - you should have a look at their support section at http://www.intervideo.com , i think there is ONE FAQ about installing DirectX 9.0, AND THATS IT!! thats all the online help you get!!!
at least if you have to pay for some decent software, you'll get some good support behind it - is PowerVCR by Cyberlink by any chance? might have to try that myself...

  • MSI K7N2 sound problems

I saw the sticky locked thread above, and read through it, but I am still having problems.
I got my 5.1 surround sound to work, with the little soundman application.  But it is fuzzy and staticky with most games, music, movies.
If anyone could help me, and a few others because I have heard of the same complaint, please do .

try the sound with head phones. It would eliminate speakers and  wires... Any other PCI devices? Might try moving them to a new slot? Reload drivers and direct X.

  • MSI GE60 Sound Problem !!!

I have no audio on the right channel on the headphone jack. Thought it was my speakers until I tried other audio devices on the jack. No right channel audio.
Tried uninstalling the sound device and reinstalled the drivers. No luck.
If I turn the volume wide open I get distorted sound from the right channel otherwise no sound.

    I found a temporary solution :
    1) Open the registry editor (Windows key + R, then enter "regedit")
    2) Go to this directory :
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0001\Settings\Drv7246_DevType_0892_SS146210c7
or something that looks like that
    3) Change the settings as following :
    Pin 14 : 02 00 00 00
    Pin 18 : 04 00 00 00
    Pin 19 : 04 00 00 00
    4) Restart
    5) Check if it applied. If it doesn't, try again. Sometimes it doesn't work at the first try.
It actually remaps the Mic-in jack in a audio output. The sound coming out is a bit lower than the original output but it's still better than the crappy sound I've had since the headphone jack became a piece of .

  • MSI GT660 and outputtings Surround Sound (5.1 spk) via toslink (S/PDIF)

    Hi Board.
I have an MSI GT660. I am very happy and satisfied with the overall product but I do have a single issue.
How do I output Dolby Pro logic 5.1 channel through my S/PDIF port (toslink)? As it is at the moment I can only configure the analogue ports to output 5.1 channel Dolby Pro Logic and not my digital.
In Windows Media Center I can configure the WMC to use 5.1 channel speakers and clicking test outputs sure enough 5.1(I hear the sound from every single speaker one at the time - incl. the sub), put just as soon as I am done configuring the sound in WMC it jumps right back to 2.1 channel.
I have tryed configuring the sound in the Realtek controlpanel and I do choose S/PDIF in the popup windows when connecting the toslink cable. But I really can not configure the digital S/PDIF to use more than 2 channels.
How can I setup my system to output Dolby Pro Logic 5.1 channel audio over toslink?
    Regards
    A frustrated user.

You're right, it was the adapter.  I bought a new cable that is already mini TOSLINK and it solved my problem.  Funny thing is that I took the existing cable I had and the adapter with the laptop to a audio/video store and tested against a new a/v receive they had there and it was working fine.  Seems that mine must be very picky on how good the optical clarity or the strength of the light is and doesn't want to pick it up.
Okay, so this is what I found out about the speaker settings. If I run the tests within the realtek audio panel, the DTS, Dolby ones, I do get sound from all speakers, especially when playing a DVD or BluRay. Now if I play an mp3 or play something in YouTube, it will be obviously not real 5.1 or 7.1 but 2.1. Now my receiving has the surround setting where I can make all the speakers work but it still isn't true 5.1/7.1.  So overall all you get is true 2.1.  Check to see if your receiving has the ability to switch between modes such as Cinema A, B, C (5.1), then the others are Jazz, Game, Pop, etc etc (2.1).
The realtek audio panel has nothing to do with speakers which is why there is no option. Digital audio simply is what it is. So if you're watching a BluRay like mine has, I get the true 5.1 sound and the blue light comes on indicating this.  If I play anything else, then its 2.1 or simulated 5.1 via choosing that option on the a/v receiver.
So ultimately, you need to change the mode on the A/V receive itself. Mine can go between manual and auto, but I have seen some which are full auto and you get what you get...hopefully that's not your case.
I'm glad I got my issue sorted out and hope this thread helps others.
According to the online product description, the reciever does not have Cinema Studio EX. A B C mode. But it sure has true DTS and Dolby Digital. So I will try forcing it to recieve 5.1 DTS or Dolby digital when I get home from Sweden Tomorrow. Thanks for the tip.
But it IS funny that my realtek control panel for my HTPC HAS the opportunity to configure speakers for the digital output. They are totaly alike in every aspekt so far - apart from the Dynaudio symbol all down in the bottom.
Yaeh I to hopes this topic will help others! I sure supports your request about the sticky.

  • Sound problems - MSI Motherboard and drivers

    message:-
I have an Evesham Microcomputer and am having difficulty with the sound - distorted and sometimes slow. I decided to use Live update to ensure I have the most upto date drivers for the sound card and chip set, both VIA.
Unfortunately I am having a trouble down loading these update and installing.  All I get after a few minutes of the download screen is error code 997. Any ideas about the down load or sound problem? System info below.

  • MSI neo4 plat(non sli) sound problem.... and other problem...

    hi
    (sorry for my poor english)
    FIRST ISSUE

after reading a lot on sound problem i try first to change my bios so i check the 1.8 and the 1.6 but still no result... , i also try to use the nvidia sound drive instead of the raitek one.... but still nothing ... in the system all appeare to be ok, windows dont detect any conflict on hardware on so one... even the nvidia mixer equaliser move... but no output...
i also read a litle about the compatibylity issue betwen the mobo and the atx2 PSU standard with the using of the 5v pin...,but as far i read it seem that this is only on the sli version...do this issue also concernt the non sli version ?can this explain my problem ?
    SECOND
i got from time to time a bleu screem with the message DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL.... can someone now what can cause this ?

    Hi!
I am also facing this problem with my K8N NEO4 Platinum Ultra.
I have even tested my PC with a PSU which is having -5v in it's rating.
I have also requested a help from MSI Support.
Their & My reply is as follows.
But still my problem could not be solved.  My sound card as per the OS works fine and produces output.  But no audible output for humans to hear.
This is the case with both front and rear panels.
I have even sent the MB for RMA but here in India, people are fools.  Even from RMA the board was shipped back in the same faulty condition.  What to say?  Whom to curse?  Only money and 20days were spent waiting for repair and in wain.
If any body can help it will be very nice.
Here is my reply to MSI:
My K8n Neo4 Platinum Ultra - earlier was giving good quality sound output. Later after 15 days of using this board, it does not give any audible sound at all. But through headphone socket of cd player I am able to receive good quality sound.
And also while using CD Player to play audio tracks, the output is very intermitent and feeble with lots of cracking noise and poor quality audio is heard.
Through Windows Media Player no sound is heard at all.
I reinstalled win2000/Win2000Server/Win2003 XP Server. In all the platform sound problem exists. Any solutions?
My PSU has 20amps in +12V rail and has no -5v. 24 pin adaptor with 400W.
SATA HDD 80GB WD. 256*2=512mb DDR 400 Ram.
    CPU AMD 3000+ Winchester core.
    Thanks in advance.
    REPLY FROM MSI:
    Dear SoftWheels:
Thank you for contacting MSI Technical Support.
With regard to yoru concern, we would like to know before the onboard sound function abnormally, if you have made any adjustment to your system hardware or software?
And at this time would you please try to un-install the sound driver in the Add or Remove Program, then install the ALC Series AC'97 Audio Drivers refer to the link below, after this please first check if in Device Manager there is any yellow mark.
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=637&kind=1.
    AGAIN MY RESPONSE TO MSI:
    Dear Sir,
Thanks for your reply. But reply does not solve my problem. I have tried all that you said in your reply.
I have done nothing to hardware. No electrical problems or burning.
Due to no sound, I have even totally zero filled my SATA hard disk, updated bios, re-installed

  • Sound problems on ProBook 6550b, running on Win 7 Pro x32bit..

I have been getting very similar sound problems on my notebook as posted by most: internal speakers work on original Audio HD drivers, but there is no sound when I connect external speakers or headphones. I up-graded the audio drivers to IDT HD Audio and I get sound coming from external speakers or headphones, but nothing from internal speakers.
I have tried everything from reporting the problem on public forums, live help, and done this or that, but nothing changes. It's so very clear to me that it has to do with audio drivers, which don't seem to work appropriately to cover all aspects of sound output.
I also, often, get this loud, weird, irritating noise and a frozen PC when I am playing music with the notebook, while on the internet. The best I do is not to do both at the same time. I have seen similar problems on blogs, but tangible solutions are NOT offered!!!! Please help...

Audio Switching coudl be due to several reason. if you have tried latest audio drivers and latest Video drivers from hp.com, i suggest you to get audio board replaced for your computer.
    Hope it helps.

  • VIA MSI KT880 Delta series - sound problem

In winxp all is fine. But when i'm starting a game like CS 1.6 something happens. I can hear some noise (silent cracks) and the game sounds have a cybernetic aftersound. After a few minutes sound totaly downs and only system restarts helps :/

I see you don't have too much hard ware that could go wrong. It used to be important to have a sound cable attached between the CD and the sound card. This shouldn't be necessary, remove it if you got it. I don't know your games, so I don't know if you use a CD, or if you play on the Internet.
Apart from this, sound problems mostly have to do with Windows.
Off: Aha, Osnavi, you thought I'd say SoundBlaster! Other problems, maybe, but I can't complain about the sound quality.

  • K7N2-ILSR sound problem

    Hello ,
I'm havinig random weird sound problems :
when i play video after a long time the sound gets laggy/grating/out of sync .if i  pause the film and start again it fix the problem . also sometimes after playing for several minutes i get noise/hiss added to the sound.
this happens randomly and after playing for a while. i'm using win xp ,nforce 2.45 drivers and the sstorm control panel.
    what causes the noises?
    my system :
     K7N2- ILSR
     AMD XP 2500
     twinmos 2X256 PC3200
     HITACHI 120GB
     GAINWARD GF4 TI4200

I have the exact same problems you mentioned but I am using a old nForce 1 msi board.  K7N420-Pro to be precise.
Usually it runs pretty well in games and such, but when ever I try to play winamp it gets very very buggy.  sometimes I can't even get through 5 seconds of a song, other times it will get through 2 or 3 and then mess up until I hit next.  I upgraded to the 2.45 yesterday from the 2.11 drivers and still got the problems.
I don't think its a heating problem since it has seen far worse heat in this computers past (winter term right next to the wall heater in the dorm) then where it is now in a 72 degree room.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Msi gt660 speaker goes on and off

    Hi
After my old MSI GT660 could not be repaired, i recieved a new unit, but with a different screen. However, less than a week later, the left speaker goes on and off, no matter if it is playing a video, music or podcasts. And the right speaker sounds bad, when the left speaker isn't working (like something is covering it). But when the left speaker is on again, it sounds good. It has been on and off 4 times now.
    Any ideas?

  • Cant hear sounds from wine ingame?

I can't hear sounds within wine games but if i open winecfg and click test sounds, i hear a faint sound, so im not sure if my audio is low for wine or what. i don't know how to set the volume for wine if that's what it is because when i open the alsa mixer it has nothing but the speakers actual sounds and not the programs. please help?!
also, i am new so i don't know much yet.

I really wouldn't be bumping this dead topic, if I wouldn't be experiencing exactly the same (or at least very similar) problems.
There is one major difference though, I didn't notice this problem until I installed Command & Conquer 3, as it's the only game that lacks sound. In the other two games I have, that is Age of Empires 2 and Medieval 2: Total War, sound works.
So I didn't notice it before.
I was trying to solve this by myself, but I just didn't find anything that could be the problem.
So here it's how it is.
If I set sound in winecfg to HD-Audio Generic  ALC889 Digital that is exactly the soundcard I have I have no sound whatsoever in Command & Conquer, but sound works completely okay in other two games.
If I set to default or system default, then there's sound in all but with high latency, a lot of noise and a bit of echo. In AoE this goes away once you get to the actual game the latency, noise and echo disappear, but in C&C it only kind of disappears and can still be heard. It's not just faint or whatever, it's actually quite audible and does make the game unplayable (especially the echo).
So if anyone has any idea what to do, please tell me. I think I once had this problem and managed to solve it, but I can't remember how I did it.

  • Sound problems with back line out port

Hey everyone, I just sent an email to MSI Tech Support, but figure I would post a message here as well.  I just put together a new system, but I'm having a problem with the back line out port.
My problem: When I plug in the front panel audio connectors (Left Audio Out, Left Audio Return, Right Audio Out, Right Audio Return) in the motherboard on pins 5-6 and 9-10 of JAUD1, the back line out does not work properly.  I get sound on only the right speaker of the headphones.
    More info:
    - Audio Driver: 5.10.0.5620 (from MSI CD)
    - If I instead plug the headphones on the front audio line out, then sound is fine
    - Here's the strange part, if I unplug the front audio connectors from the motherboard (and short pins 5-6, 9-10 with the jumpers, obviously), then the sound on the back line out works properly!
    - My Windows sound settings are fine
Has anyone heard of this problem?  Any ideas/suggestions of what I could try?
Could this be a defective board?  Could it be bad wires on the case?  Seems unlikely since both back line out and front line out work depending on what I have setup.
    Help! :-)
    Thanks,
    icab

    Rear sound problem
Third time this has come up in 1 or 2 weeks.
    Steve,
I appreciate the reply, but I believe you are wrong.  Yes, I have searched the forum and did find that thread.  Yes, I have read the manual.  The only thing that it says is: "If you don't want to connect to the front audio header, pins 5 & 6, 9 & 10 have to be jumpered in order to have signal output directed to the rear audio ports. Otherwise, The Line-out connector on the back panel will not function."  That's not my case since I want both ports to work (not outputting the signal both at the same time, obviously).
This can't be ByDesign.  Either my board is defective or MSI is not following the Intel Front Panel I/O Connectivity Guide correctly.  The whole point of having 4 wires for the front panel audio ports, 2 of the wires being Aud_Ret_R and Aud_Ret_L, is so that the audio signal is sent to the front line out and _returned_ to the back line out if nothing is plugged in the front line out.
I have an IBM machine with an intel mobo at work and it works as mentioned in the design guide.
Any other ideas, anyone? I can still RMA my motherboard, but it's a design issue, i guess I'm stuck. I never got an automated reply from MSI Tech Support, so I guess my email never went through.  I'll send another email and let the forum know of the results.
    Thanks,
    Igor
