MSI GT660 Subwoofer Problems (Windows7)

Hi, i was hoping someone here could help me with a problem i have in windows 7 32bit
It seems when i installed the Realtek HD sound drivers for GT660 from MSI's site it cannot detect or see any subwoofer in the sound manager tools
But when i use the standard Microsoft HD sound drivers i can now see 3 "Speakers" in the Sound Manager, one that is disabled, another that is my subwoofer and a 3rd that is my front speakers, however i can only choose one of these in windows 7, so either i go full Subwoofer speaker or Full Front speakers (No Bass)
I also tried updating to the official Realtek drivers from Realtek's site and its the same as the drivers from MSI's site... no subwoofer detected, and no sound comes from the subwoofer. And it doesnt help choosing 5.1 or 7.1 settings in the Realtek HD-Audio Configuration, ive been testing all possible settings :(
Does anyone have simular problems and know how to fix this ?

SCM and all other software/drivers from MSI was already installed. I dont know of it was because i was running 32bit windows...
But after using the F3 Restore feature and putting it all back to the way it was when i bought it - it works.
Running 64bit windows with only 4gb ram isnt optimal tho ... but i can live with it as long as the subwoofer works, the sound is awsome.
ps. it still doesnt recognize that i have a subwoofer in any of the sound managers, but it seems to use my subwoofer as a part of the 2 front speakers.

  • MSI GT660 Sound Problem (Win 7)

Hey guys, i recently decided to reformat my MSI GT660, so obviously something i have not installed correctly has caused this problem. I'm just not sure what. The sound works, it's just as i'm playing music in the background every now and then, it'll sound distorted and messed up for a few seconds, then go back to normal.
It keeps doing this, and it's really annoying. I tried reinstalling the Realtek HD audio driver, but no luck. Any ideas?

    The sound is MP3? Internet?
    Played with what player?
What do you do in the foreground?
100% CPU load can cause such too.
Your information is waaaaay to little to even start guessing.
Hmm yeah, guess i wasn't really thinking. Right, it's played using Spotify, i just tested with Winamp though and the same problem is there. So it's all kinds of sounds really. I don't think it's 100% CPU load cause i checked the core history and none hit 100%, also i'm only browsing the internet when this happens. So to answer the question of what i'm doing, not much really just opening new windows etc.
It never used to do this before i reformatted it, and it's only just started now. I don't think i noticed any sound problems when i was playing a game earlier though... i'll have to check that one out.

  • MSI GT660 and outputtings Surround Sound (5.1 spk) via toslink (S/PDIF)

    Hi Board.
I have an MSI GT660. I am very happy and satisfied with the overall product but I do have a single issue.
How do I output Dolby Pro logic 5.1 channel through my S/PDIF port (toslink)? As it is at the moment I can only configure the analogue ports to output 5.1 channel Dolby Pro Logic and not my digital.
In Windows Media Center I can configure the WMC to use 5.1 channel speakers and clicking test outputs sure enough 5.1(I hear the sound from every single speaker one at the time - incl. the sub), put just as soon as I am done configuring the sound in WMC it jumps right back to 2.1 channel.
I have tryed configuring the sound in the Realtek controlpanel and I do choose S/PDIF in the popup windows when connecting the toslink cable. But I really can not configure the digital S/PDIF to use more than 2 channels.
How can I setup my system to output Dolby Pro Logic 5.1 channel audio over toslink?
    Regards
    A frustrated user.

You're right, it was the adapter.  I bought a new cable that is already mini TOSLINK and it solved my problem.  Funny thing is that I took the existing cable I had and the adapter with the laptop to a audio/video store and tested against a new a/v receive they had there and it was working fine.  Seems that mine must be very picky on how good the optical clarity or the strength of the light is and doesn't want to pick it up.
Okay, so this is what I found out about the speaker settings. If I run the tests within the realtek audio panel, the DTS, Dolby ones, I do get sound from all speakers, especially when playing a DVD or BluRay. Now if I play an mp3 or play something in YouTube, it will be obviously not real 5.1 or 7.1 but 2.1. Now my receiving has the surround setting where I can make all the speakers work but it still isn't true 5.1/7.1.  So overall all you get is true 2.1.  Check to see if your receiving has the ability to switch between modes such as Cinema A, B, C (5.1), then the others are Jazz, Game, Pop, etc etc (2.1).
The realtek audio panel has nothing to do with speakers which is why there is no option. Digital audio simply is what it is. So if you're watching a BluRay like mine has, I get the true 5.1 sound and the blue light comes on indicating this.  If I play anything else, then its 2.1 or simulated 5.1 via choosing that option on the a/v receiver.
So ultimately, you need to change the mode on the A/V receive itself. Mine can go between manual and auto, but I have seen some which are full auto and you get what you get...hopefully that's not your case.
I'm glad I got my issue sorted out and hope this thread helps others.
According to the online product description, the reciever does not have Cinema Studio EX. A B C mode. But it sure has true DTS and Dolby Digital. So I will try forcing it to recieve 5.1 DTS or Dolby digital when I get home from Sweden Tomorrow. Thanks for the tip.
But it IS funny that my realtek control panel for my HTPC HAS the opportunity to configure speakers for the digital output. They are totaly alike in every aspekt so far - apart from the Dynaudio symbol all down in the bottom.
Yaeh I to hopes this topic will help others! I sure supports your request about the sticky.

  • MSI GT660 Touch Panel CHAOS!

I have the MSI GT660 with default Windows 7 x64 installed and no virus's on the computer as far as I can tell. I take pretty good care of the computer.
For the past month or so, the Laptop will completely randomly start turning on the turbo, fan, wireless, bluetooth, eco, and other touch sensitive buttons located at the top of the keyboard. It will do this randomly for several minutes no matter if I press them to turn them off, they will shortly turn themselves back on.
Any ideas? I am up to date on all MSI updates.

  • MSI GT660 Upgrade CPU and/or GPU

I've searched the forum(and net) for this question but came up empty. Is it possible to upgrade MSI GT660's CPU(current i7-740QM) and/or GPU(current GTX-285M)? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any idea if GPU on it is MXM 3.0 B(like on GX660) or a different type? If its possible - which(better) CPU/GPU are available that would fit?
    Thanks in advance!!!
P.S. If anyone needs any help on upgrading RAM or HDD/SDD on this model - post your question here as i have done both(went to 10GB(4/4/2) of RAM, upgraded HDD to faster Samsung M4 and added 120Gb Sata6G SSD to 2nd bay) and will be glad to walk you through this(quite simple) process.
Update: SOmeone send me a link to this - http://50.22.71.151/store/msi-nvidia-gtx-560m-1-5g-gddr5-mxm-3b-graphics-card.html
And accoring to it GT660 is in fact MXM v3.0 B compatible. Just want to confirm it before pulling the trigger though(also would prefer a bit faster card since 560m is not much faster than my gtx-285m(well not faster to justify the upgrade price), was hoping to get AMD 6970M(or 6990 perhaps) if thats compatible with my system(already have 150w PSU)

    Hi,
The following book shows you CPU's supported from day one:
      h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02641795.pdf
I don't think you can upgrade the GPU unless buying a new motherboard and many things.
    Regards.

  • MSI GT660 & Expresscard: laptop turns on and card not working need advice.

hi guys i was wondering if any one here had a similar problem to what i am currently experiencing with the GT660
i have an MSI GT660  and i am also using a magma expressbox1 that can be found here http://www.magma.com/expressbox1.asp
here is the issue i have.
    1. if i insert the expresscard wile the system is off the laptop will automatically turn on as soon as i insert the card.  when the OS loads (win7 64bit) the device will attempt to install but stops and gives me a error "device unplugged" if i restart the system (with the card still in the slot) the expresscard will not show in device manager.
    2. if i shut down the system with my expresscard in the slot the track-pad indicator lights will stay lit until i remove the expresscard. if i remove the card once the system shuts down the laptop will power back on as soon as i remove it.
    3. i have found that if i power on the laptop and insert my expresscard as soon as the system passes the bios screen the device works just fine in the OS. but once i power off the system, again i am faced with the issue of removing the card and system powering back on once i remove the card.
i am also using this same Magma Expressbox1 with a sony vaio F series laptop and it works perfectly fine on the vaio. i have installed a BlackMagic Intensity Pro in the expressbox1.
i have searched the forums but have not found any info. has any one else come across this same issue?

i now have confirmation from 2 other people that are using this exact setup and they do not have this problem.
going to contact MSI directly and try to get this issue resolved.

  • Msi gt660 speaker goes on and off

    Hi
After my old MSI GT660 could not be repaired, i recieved a new unit, but with a different screen. However, less than a week later, the left speaker goes on and off, no matter if it is playing a video, music or podcasts. And the right speaker sounds bad, when the left speaker isn't working (like something is covering it). But when the left speaker is on again, it sounds good. It has been on and off 4 times now.
    Any ideas?

  • Creative Inspire T6200 Subwoofer Problem

    Hi,
I am using Creative T6200 speaker set for one weeks and I have a subwoofer problem.
    The problem definition:
-Nearly no sound from subwoofer (you hear it only when you close your ear on it)
-I didn't experienced or noticed the problem since yesterday. Yesterday while I was listening music on Winamp, the subwoofer sound suddenly disappeared. From that moment on, I was only able to hear the subwoofer two times but then it's sound disappeared again.
System specs and What I have done to solve:
-I have Vista 32 bit, Sound Blaster Live! 24 Bit, also another sound card (Realtek) embedded on my Asus motherboard, but this sound card is disabled from Bios.
-I am using the latest drivers.
-I tried various media players and some computer games but no change.
-This time I disable the SB Live!, and enable the Realtek sound card, but no change still.
-I had an old Philips 5.1 speaker system. When I plug it on, it's subwoofer works fine and loud, but when I plug T6200, it's doesn't!
Do you have any recommendation? I can't tell the problem is software or the hardware, maybe you can help me.
    Thanks...

I also have these speakers, but haven't had any problems so far.
    You could:
    - check if every cable is connected firmly to the subwoofer.
    - check your soundcard/media player settings: maybe the lower end of the equalizer has been killed, being the reason no sound comess from your sub.

  • I7 640m on a msi gt660

    Hello,
I own an MSI GT660 laptop.
    It came with a i7 740qm processor.
    I just bought an i7 640m processor.
    I get a black screen.
I flashed the latest BIOS e16f1ims.10L
    Same thing.
The laptop uses the intel PM55 chipset which is listed as compatible with both processors:
Any hope of getting this to work?
The i7 640m has AES encryption built-in, thus the reason for the upgrade.
Can you patch the firmware for this?
I don't mind donating. How much do you need donated?

    ok,
    Return the donation then.
I really want this cpu to run.
If you say that 3.0L will run on a non-raid system then I will give it a try.

I have an idea about why it is not displaying anything.
    This processor , the i7 640m, has a built-in intel video chip.
Perhaps it is trying to display the output to the screen with that chip rather than the gtx285m in my machine.
Everything works, the breathing effect, i can eject the cd, the buttons all work across the top so the bios is running.
Anyway to disable that onboard video?

with unlocked bios eventually you can select IGD/PEG as primary graphic config, its PEG by default
but i don't what would the effect from this.
else onboard intel card can't be disable else you can't see anything on the screen

  • MSI GT660 - Raid 0 Supported?

    Hello!
I recently last month bought a nice new MSI GT660 notebook! This came with x64 bit Windows 7 pre-loaded!
Only one hard-drive came with the notebook when received. The 500GB standard HD. I noticed there was another slot to place an HD in to, so I placed my old desktop 60GB Vertex 2 SSD in it. I now have Ubuntu on the SSD and Windows 7 on the 500GB. I mainly use Ubuntu as my main OS, because Windows is crap.
I was wondering if this laptop supports Raid 0? I'm not quite sure where to look or how to find out. I obviously can't try it, because I don't believe you can do a SSD and regular HD in raid 0 . Two different formats, etc..
The plan is to buy another SSD and run in raid 0 , with Ubuntu. Dumping Windows completely.
    Thanks in advance!!

  • MSI GT660 LED manager problem

    Hi all.
I have a problem with my MSI LED Manager, since i cannot open the light settings. For some reason the program is uninstalled, and the setup-file is missing. Does anyone know how to fix this? - or how i can get the missing file, called something like "msiledmanagersetup.msi"?

Quote from: Stu on 28-October-11, 06:48:43
You can download the MSI LED Manager utility here:
    http://eu.msi.com/service/download/utility-14792.html
Thank you. Unfortunately, it still says that this file is needed: 'msiLEDManagerSetup.msi' - the file in this folder does not appear to be the right one.

  • MSI GT660 Laptop charge problem

My computer is awesome, its about a year old now. Lately its been having trouble charging, or "running on power". I have to tilt the power cable, or put my phone on the cable to tilt it so it charges, and if i play a game on it, sometimes it will "untilt" juts enough to stop the charging and my computers performance goes down the drain. Its really bothersome because i cant really use my computer for its intended purpose "gaming" now that its charging is so unstable.
Any ideas of how i can solve this problem? Just buy a new power cord? When i google the problem a lot of the suggestions are that the power socket is malfunctioning.. and not the power cord...

Oh boy, i had the same problem until eventually inside the laptop the pin broke of. Not the pin itself but behind it. I had to open it up and connect a small wire from the front to the back. ( i assume it's kind of vague).
What ever you do, don't put pressure on it because eventually it will break.
