MSI GT683R FPS PROBLEMS

Hello,
I am having a problem with my two year old MSI GT683R. (Intel Core i7, Windows 7)
My computer has severely bad frameS per second problem. I cannot even play my games (Minecraft, CoD BO2, Chivalry, Defiance...) It starts around 70 fps but as I continue to play it drops to about 2-10 fps.
What could be causing this problem? How can I fix this?
Thank you.

How about this?

What's your current graphics driver version you have?
Try to roll back to the graphics driver version from MSI website and see if the problem remains.

  • MSI GT780R FPS problem

    Hi.
I just bought the MSI GT780R laptop. This laptop should be a good "gaming" laptop and according to "Can you run it" it should run fine with highest graphics on Dead Island.
But when I play I get a massive FPS drop! I can also choose the "Best Performance" but when I do, everything changes to LOWEST graphics and I have no idea what the problem is!
I have installed the latest graphic driver and the laptop is only 1 day old.
I would really appreciate some help!
    Best regards
    Ninami

I can't tell for sure but I installed a few more drivers from MSI website and did like 50 extra updates with windows. Something did the job

  • MSI GT683r Massive fps drop (CPU overheating)

    System Information:

    OS: Windows 7
    Brand: MSI GT683R-242
CPU: intel quad core i7-2630QM @ 2.00 GHz
    GPU: Nvidia GTX 560M 1.5 GB GDDR5
    RAM: DDRIII 16GB(4GB*4)
    HDD: 1TB (500GB*2 RAID 0)7200 RPM
Hello, I'm having a lot of problems with my cpu temperature being high especially when gaming and this results in getting intermittent FPS drops when gaming. My fps when gaming drops to about 10fps (this doesn't necessarily happen when I'm in a particular FPS intensive condition either, could happen when I'm just walking around in the world). I've noticed my CPU temperature is close to 90 degrees when this occurs (I realize it's due to the core temperature being too high). It shouldn't matter what game since I should not get these FPS problems with a laptop like this but the game I play is a MMORPG called Rift.
After playing Rift for about 1 hour and a half mainly in pvp battlegrounds (15 players per team in the battleground so a total of 30 players), my core temp for my cpu reach the high 80 degrees and I’ve received 4-5 massive fps drops while playing during this time. I was able to screenshot my FPS during the FPS drops and I obtained a few screenshots while playing in game. See screenshots below.
NOTE1: CPU core Temperature is shown in the upper right of the screenshots, the running processes from the task manager is also shown in most of these screenshots.
NOTE2: I play with the native resolution of my laptop 1920 x 1080. I normally play windowed full screen but I include the CPU core temperatures & Task Manager so it wasn't window full screen. Also, I did not have the Turbo and the Nvidia Overclock Tool activated but I've tried both in the past and have not noticed a noticeable difference in my FPS drops while using them. (I  also get FPS drops while using the Turbo and Nvidia Overclock Tool).
NOTE3: I play the game with medium settings to try to alleviate this FPS problem but I've had FPS problems still happens even in low settings.
After restarting my computer my idle temperature on all my 4 cores according to core temperature sits around 45 degrees (fluctuation + / - 2 to 3 degrees) with practically no processes running (close to 100k memory in the task manager processes).
When loading up Rift and being IDLE in town my cpu temperature fluctuates between 50 and 61 degrees. CPU usage in task manager fluctuates between 10-16%.
My Normal FPS in a combat environment playing Rift (fluctuates a little obviously but it's usually in the 25 FPS range), FPS can be seen on the bottom right of the Rift client (performance area)
FPS drop result after CPU temp overheating, FPS can be seen on the bottom right of the Rift client (performance area). The CPU temperature was in the high 80's before this FPS drop.
CPU temperatures while idling in town after a battleground (I also get FPS drops in town and dungeons as well but usually not as frequent as I do in a battleground or in Raids)
CPU temperatures while killing a boss in a raid, there were probably about 100 players in the environment, I had a huge FPS drop just after taking this screenshot
I also took a Screenshot of my core temp about an hour after I stopped playing, My CPU temperature was constantly fluctuating between the low 60's to high 70's when my computer only had a few processes running.
I've looked around for a solution for this problem but I can't seem to find one. I haven't physically opened my laptop to check if there's an issue inside but I've only started having this FPS problem since about 2 months. I had no FPS problems until recently.
Not sure if it matters or not but my NVIDA driver version is 296.10. I've tried reverting to the previous driver to see if this latest driver update was the problem but it didn't change anything. Other things I've tried is changing some settings in the NVIDIA control pannel but this has not worked either. I've even tried playing my game on the lowest settings and still had intermittent FPS drops. I've browsed through the forums and some people have suggested flashing the BIOS but I'm a bit skeptical to do that. I also attempted to call MSI customer support and left a message but they have not returned my call yet. Anyone got any suggestions to fix this problem?

The simple solution is to open the bottom and blow out the air through the center of the fan with canned air.  The vents arent plugged but the fan itself probably looks like a fuzzy mop.  Shoudl fix your problem and will not void your warranty.
The ideal solution is to pop the heatsyncs of the CPU and GPU, replace whatever crap their using with artic silver and appreciate a refined machine.  Not only will you not have overheats but your machine will use its fan less and thus be quieter.  This WILL void your warranty... but its worth it.  Just dont do it unless you are savy.
Other then that.  Lifting the laptop off the ground is ESSENTIAL.  Look at the bottom.  It has vents.  Ask yourself.. "Self.. what could these vents possibly be for?"  Self will hopefully reply "Well Self, I would say they are there for cooling."  "SO self these vents have a purpose???"  "Yes, self, they do.  Their purpose is cooling and airflow"  "Well then why do we not have airspace allowing air to actually get into these vents?" "Because self.. we like it flat....  Like a tire thats soon to be on fire..." Hopefully after that your enlightened self will go get a stand.  If you want the lowest profile you can get you need a thin cooler system, if you dont care about that just buy a stand that permits airspace and flow.  I mean your running an advanced gaming rig.  In a normal box these components may have 4+ fans... Your laptop has one.  Help it out.
The good news is perhaps cooking your cpu will have a burn in effect and make it clock to higher speeds... However I doubt it.  Chances are you are cooking everything from said chip to your HDs and you should stop, because that MIGHT void your warranty.

  • Horrible fps problems, fans not working

    Hi,
Whenever I play League of Legends on my 15 inch retina macbook pro, the game starts out smoothly with a consistent 60 fps.  However, after a certain period of time, the fps severely drops to about 5.  It never used to do this, but now it happens consistently.  Also, the fans have not turned on in months; they used to always be on whenever I played League, but they seem to never turn on anymore.  Could the fps problem be related to the fan not working?  Please help, and thanks!

  • Gt70 2OD FPS problem (Software)

Hi everyone, i posted a week ago about a bad fps problem:
I sum-up the problem on this graphic:
I can fix the problem by making a fresh install of my laptop (thank's to acronis), but after 1 or 2 days without even installing a program, a driver or an update... The fps issue came back.
I'm not sure about this, but it seems that the more i play, the more i've got fps fall...
No matter the game the problem still the same...
    Looking for advice guys!

    So....
Even if no one is able to answer me, i'll keep posting there in case of RMA!
I made a very precise monitoring of what happend while i play (no matter the game: BF3/BF4/ASC3)
    here are the graphics:
    It's nothing but weird...
to compare, here's a normal game...

  • MSI X800XT PE (Low fps problem)

Ok, I dont know why I didnt think of this before, but I've been searching all kinds of forums lately trying to get find some answers as to why I seem to be getting really low fps with my MSI X800XT PE.
Theres no doubt about it. These cards are quick. The problem I am having is that it just doesnt seem to be kicking out the right amount of FPS during game play. For example, when I run 3dMark'05 (ver 1.1.0), (I only have the free version) My total at the end of the test is 5621. This is after I changed to the Omeaga Drivers (2.5.90) Before I upgraded to them, I was still running the catalyst 4.10 drivers and getting about 1000 points less.
As for Counter Strike:Source I did the video stress test. Video settings are all set to the default recommendation for my system. So everything is on high, Reflect world, Anisotropic 8*, antialiasing 6*, vertical sync disabled. My score was 83.1fps.
According to just about everyone else who owns an X800 Pro or XT PE they are all getting much higher results than myself.
    I am also running DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
I would really appreciate it if anyone has any ideas as to why my scores are so low.
If you require more info please give me a shout.
    Look forward to your reply.
    DOA.

Thanks for the feedback and links guys.
Basically I've done most of my comparing on futuremarks page. After you do a test it asks you wether or not you want to submit and compare. So I select all the hardware I own and see what others got. Looking through the pages it just seems that my score is in the last few pages. Another thing when I play CS:Source, during game play I see the fps drop down to 20fps during a heavy battle esp if there is water in the area. Do you guys get that. Theres a console command that shows you how many fps you get a second. Bare in mind that I play it @ 1600*1200 AS 8* AA 6*.  I just thought that these cards would hardly ever drop to 20fps no matter the res and detail.

  • MSI gt683r Overheating and FPS drops

Hi, My name is Jose Gabriel Kordahi Amair
Im a gamer From venezuela, and i just Bought a MSI GT683T with the
    following Specifications:
    Intel Core i7 2670QM
    Nvidia GTX 560M 1,5GB GDDR5
    12GB(4GB*3) DDR3
I bought it, cuz for the time and the avaible technology out there on
the market this laptop was at a great Price (on February 2012 at
    1350$)
I was not using it To much For gaming cuz i Got a hight end desktop,
this laptop was just for backup when that one fails.
Now im having problems with overheating, i have noticed that in some
scenarios that this laptop is suposed to behave  incredibly well it is
failing Like playing Battlefield 3, Dirt 3 and a Lot of more games and
    Hight end aplications.
On Idle, the CPU temperature Reachs like 58-65 celsius when it is on
ECO OFF and the CPU Frequency its at 2.2GHZ.
When im playing a game like Battlefield 3.  the CPU reachs
    Temperatures like 85-92 celsius.
I attached some screenshots Of this.
I have noticed that when this happens the the game´s frames per second
drop dramatically From 60FPS (with Vsync on) To 25 or 15 Fps for 30
or 25 Secs while the CPU gets a little bit cooler.
I know that the reason of the problem is the CPU temperature because
all the characteristics of the GPU remain the same.
I Did not upgrade or update any other driver than the GPU driver From
the Official Page from Nvidia hoping that this was the problem, But
    nothing Changed.
Now i want to know if there is any RMA service or a warranty or
Technical support to solve this problem.
Do i have to Update any driver? , is there any solution for this
problem? , because it makes the performance drops so bad.
So please I hope to have a response from you.
    Thx

  • MSI GT70 Dominator FPS problems.

I recently bought the the MSI GT70 Dominator, and Ive been having some issues with frame rate. Unturned only runs at 25 fps sometimes, and I can't get minecraft over 30fps. League of Legends sometimes dips below 30 fps on max settings, but also sometimes gets above 60fps. Why are my frame rates so unpredictable, and why cant I get minecraft over 30 fps??
    Thanks for the help

Do you have GTX 880M? If so you should use 327.23 Drivers. If it is working fine with them then it is famous 880M bug. I suggest you to RMA laptop then and wait couple months to buy GT72 with 880MX or whatever GPU but not 880M.
And you need to google proper modded inf file for this new GPU in 327.23. Search at laptopvideo2go or ask somebody at some forums to add 880M IDs
However  if those drivers will not help and you already tried "launch with high performance Gnvidia GPU" then check temperatures. If it goes above 80-90 then it is throttling issues. Overheating.

every time i play warcraft3 after 30 mins of playing the fps rate drops... i try to search for solutions but all i have seen is 8400gs is not good for gaming T_T????? but i played high graphic game like cabal online but it works smoothly..
i would like to know if it is true...
i once have a 128 videocard and AMD 200xp MSI motherboard it works very fine...
    pls help...
    thanks in advance

One of my friends has an 8400 and it works great with warcraft 3. He plays it maxed out settings at 1280x1024. Nice and smooth. He only has a E4600. I assume you have latest graphic drivers and warcraft 3 patch (1.22a)? Hope it helps. I have a 8600 GT and it works great for low end gaming and they are only like 80 dollars. I would not recommend the MSI one that I use. It has passive cooling and runs very hot. Other then that it works great. For under a hundred dollars, I believe the best graphics card is a 3850.
    Good luck, Taz

  • MSI GX620 Cooling Problems

    hello everyone!
i bought my MSI GX620 notebook at christmas and till now everything worked really fine. about a week ago i noticed that games, after running about 15-20 minutes, start to run slower, feels like fps would drop around 20. my first thought was the vents got too much dust, so i removed carefully the back of the notebook, so i could clean the vent a bit, but still, i got the same issues. i checked with Everest, the GPU temp is 65°C (149 °F), the CPU temp is 55°C (131°F) while doing just simple browsing. this i think is just fine. but when i start any game ( with low PC requirements too ) the GPU has 91°C and the CPU is 80°C and the framerates just drop after 15-20 mins from about 60-100 to 10-20fps. and that just started some days, maybe a week ago.
can anyone tell me what should i do or try?
thanks , and sorry for my bad english
    snuzzie

I've been having the same problem with my GX630. The thing must be really clogged because it gets extremely hot after about five minutes of moderate graphics gaming and slows to a chugging crawl. I'm assuming that the plate on the bottom of your machine is the same as on the GX630, and is pretty large with a little indent for where it's supposed to come off. Did you manage to do this?
I took out all the screws and tried to pry it open but gave up for fear of breaking the whole dang thing.
    Anyone have experience doing this?

All components are new , and nothing is overclocked .. everything has stock settings.
     Here is my problem:
The system boots up fine, but after I log into windows about 3 seconds pass then the screen goes black . I try again and the same thing happens. .. but on the third or fourth attempt windows stays on and everything seems to work fine untill the next time . At that point I need to do the re-starting process all over again.
When it is working and I am gaming my GPU temps run about 50-60 degrees C ( according to afterburner) , and my FPS hit between 130-140.
I have tried another PSU ( PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750W ) with the same results.
My board bios is updated to the latest version as are the drivers for the MSI.
I don't have another board to try this on , But I tried another vid card ( Asus 8400GS) and everything worked fine ( no black screen) albeit much slower.
Is there anything I'm overlooking , or anything I could try ? .. or is this a RMI ?
     Ty for any help!
     Bugmon

I think I've found the problem , and it is not the card. After the same black screen started occuring with the other card I swapped monitors and haven't had any black screens since. The offending monitor was my older 27" HANNSG.

check CPU Freq. [when its underload] with CPU-Z
Well i tried MSI afterburner along with intel turbo boost technology,i cud not find the frequency in cpu-z,however i noticed that in msi after burner while playing the game (bf3) it gave me a clock of (shader clock 1550) and (core clock 770) when i press the turbo it goes to 1627 and 813 respectively so i guess it is overclocking however the cpu remains constant at 2.60GHz so after these results i think everything is fine....I was expecting to get a drastic change while overclockingby TDE. I assume that the TDE pushes the vga card to its maximum limit, while without TDE enabled the game uses as much resource it wants to use...am I right?
I guess there is nothing to worry about??
