MSI GT70 0NE Win8 to Win7 downgrade problem.

Hi.. I bought a MSI GT70 0NE with a 128gb ssd (in a msi super raid module) and win8 pre installed .. but I hate win8, and would like to have more ssd space. so I bought 2 Crucial m4 mSATA 256gb and windows 7 ultimate 32 and 64 bit DVD. the ssds fits perfectly and they are detected in the bios. but no matter what I do I cant install win7 :S not even with only the supplied 128gb ssd sandisk installed I cant .. what should I do? My plan was to run the 2 SSDs in super raid .. do I have to get a new bios or? and would an other bios mabye fix the win 7 install? Please help me

  • MSI GT70 (0NE-452) Refuses to Boot/random shut downs - BIOS problem?

    Hello,
I recently purchased a MSI GT70 0NE-452 laptop from Xotic PC. It came with Windows 8, but since Windows 8 broke most of Adobe Premiere, Vegas, and After Effects, I wiped the RAID0 SSDs and installed Windows 7. I've reinstalled all the drivers and have been comfortably setup for about a week or 2. Unfortunately now, the laptop has been behaving strangely.
    1) Random shutdowns, regardless of whether I'm connected to power or not. And I know it isn't because the battery died. (This might be fixed now since I downloaded another driver for the CPU Thermal  Control)
    2) Laptop won't turn on first-try. I press the power button and the power button flashes orange but nothing happens. It will only turn on once I've removed the battery and put it back in.
I have a feeling this could be a BIOS problem, and possibly attributable to the Windows 7 reformat, but I'm not sure. My BIOS is currently: American Megatrends Inc E1762MS.50U, 11/23/12.
The MSI website for my model has a Bios update:
    Release Date: 2012-12-14
Description: Fix HDMI/DP hot plug no function after S3 resume
    Non-Win8
    E1762IMS.30R
Can someone please advise? Should I try my hand at flashing the BIOS with this update and hope it solves the problem, or should I just call MSI and get it fixed by them?
Any help is much appreciated, thank you very much!

I'll take your advice but can you clarify a bit? Is it something beyond a BIOS repair?

When I  checked with CPU-Z i found that the CPU, GPU and RAM not giving their full perfornane. For exalmple the RAM. it should be 1866MHz but in CPU-Z it shows that it works only on 900 MHz which is almost 50% of what it should be.Even the CPU & GPU same problem. When I google I found that there is some sitting in bios need to be increased. But unfortunatily my bios is locked and I cannot do anything for ram cpu and gpu.also I need to overclock gpu & cpu and get maximum performance using this laptop
So if anyone can help me in this issue will be highly appreciated. Thanks

yes, double post and also in wrong section was removed.
    here is the reply:

CPU-Z reads 900? That is correct for 1800. DDR=Double Data Rate, 2X900=1800. Probably produce too much excessive heat anyway even if the BIOS was unlocked and the VGA and CPU were OC'd.

900 means 1800 as Froggy said
I can unlocked the BIOS and you can play with memory timings and speed. But your ram is already running in near top shape.

GPU OC is not depend of BIOS, but vbios
about CPU, yes some blck which to allow some OC could be possible,
but its not guaranteed. some people report that they has no effect, while others can get some further CPU OC.

  • MSi GT70 - 0NE-276us Sudden Power Off/Will not Stay On

First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to read about my problem. No sob story, however this is my only computer and it was/is my work machine in the IT Administrative/Deskside Workplace. Any ideas are welcome.
I have an MSi GT70-0NE 276us Laptop. I bought it last year (Christmas). I was playing a game on Steam when suddenly the machine turned off. Using my troubleshooting experience, here is what I tried:
-Removing the battery and power supply from the machine and holding power button for 1 minute
-After testing with ONLY the battery inside the machine, pressing the power button makes a white flash and a shimmer of light sent to the keyboard, but doesnt actually turn on. It does this upon each keypress and does not skip a beat.
    - I tried to connect the power supply directly into the laptop WITHOUT the battery connected, and it does the same thing. As for the battery indicator light, it does not stay on as it normally would when the power is connected to it.
NOTE: I have NEVER used my laptop WITHOUT the power cord connected; it is always attached since I know its a power hog.
    - I have checked for any smells of burning/melting and there are none. The laptop was also not that hot when it cut off suddenly.
    - Ive blown the mainboard/underside with compressed air and removed all of the dust
    - Ive made sure the fan was clear and connected
    - Ive reseated the RAM
    - I have NOT tried another power brick; the one I received was refurbished.
    - The LED on the power brick lights up but nothing is coming into the machine
    - I have not had the laptop 10 months and its always connected to the wall/power outlet
So if it is the motherboard, I wouldnt be too surprised but Ive know MSi to make excellent motherboards, hence the reason I spent 2500.00 on it. A fellow IT friend said I may want to try a new power supply that has the exact specs your laptop needs. As if its possible the load on the end of the power brick that goes into my laptop may be done for.
I removed the Battery and noticed this:
The inside of the laptop after removing the battery say
    MS 1762
    DC Rating 19V=9.5A
    My Battery says (MSi battery)
    11.1 Vdc = 7800mAh, 87 Wh
    ..But the power brick reads
    Input 100-240 V ~2A 50-60Hz
    Output 19.5 Volts =7.7 A
He suggested trying a new power suppy but Im concerned its the motherboard (because us IT Guys know the motherboard will get you everytime)
So is it possible? Im not sure why they may have given me the wrong power brick, if it is wrong. He says the specs dont add up, and since each time I press the button and the white light flickers and part of the keyboard, he said it may be the power bricks' node that connects to my machine. Im used to motherboards that are done for the machine shows no sighns, no hints, no flickers. This is atleast flickering, just not coming on .
I know its alot to read and I appreciate all of the techs/other users time.

Thanks guys. Your input is not falling on deaf ears and it seems im getting reputable support via the forums with the MSi tech team.
It really is so weird. Today I tried the process of elimination from a video I saw on you tube. Now, keep in mind, each time the power button is pressed with either their power brick/battery alone in the machine, the power light and the 'battery' indicator light at the front of the machine flicker (each keypress; even if you do it rapidly).
I took the bottom tray off and checked the fan and blew it out with compressed air. Checked the thermal paste under the processor heatsink, checked the processor condition and all looks well there.
Tested by removing one connection at a time then testing for power (all along while testing, keep in mind I only have the 19.5v 7.7 amp power brick.)
    - removed D:/ drive secondary  then checked for continuity; no luck
    - removed all 4 ram sticks and tested one at a time with the power supply connected; no continuity
    - removed the keyboard ribbon cable and tested; still no luck
    - removed (what I believe to be) the usb ribbon cable (hub with 3.0 ports) and tested for any indicator lights; still no luck
    - unplugged the cmos for 5 mins and reconnected; still no luck
*NOTE: when I look underneath of the laptop when pressing the power button, the fan that has the gpu and the cpu heatsinks up against, it actually spins for a brief second; about as long as the power button flashes.
I stopped at some stores looking for a 180+ watt adapter and i couldnt find one that carried it. I wanted to test it before purchasing, so Ive avoided online purchase up to this point. However, I do realize I need one anyway at this point regardless.
My buddy has his own PC Repair shop. He doesnt have a power brick of that magnitude, but cant we get a voltmeter and check for continuity from not only the power supply, but also the jack soldered on the motherboard?
He is saying kinda what Dark is saying... Me, I think its a short somewhere... he thinks the computer asked for too much power from the power supply and probably burnt out the tip because at the time it cut off, I was playing a graphic intensive game, and in my USB 3.0 ports on a single hub, I had the following connected:
    - A Logitech USB headset (wired)
    - an XBOX 360 wired controller
    - A Logitech G700 gaming mouse charging
Ive never had that many power hungry devices connected to one hub at one time before.

I'm currently looking for an unlocked BIOS for the MSI GT70 0NE-467UK. What I'm looking to do is set the primary GPU to IGP, as the GTX680M died (out of warranty) and had to be removed before the laptop would turn back on. • MSI GT70 0NE , GTX680M (4GB)

    Dear All,
I was totally happy to buy the new MSI GT70 0NE , GTX680M (4GB) but unfornately after three weeks of heavy games (Black OPS II, MW3) using I have observe the following:
    - The AC adapter making a buzzy noise in all laptop senarios (idle or full load).
    - The laptop fan making noise in idle mode even with the built graphics card (Intel HD4000).
    - Some time when game scene load it I get slow perfomance.
Currenlty I'm not happy for the mentioned issues for expensive laptop which should not be there ....
I would appreciate if some one from MSI read my problems and advise how to slove those issues.
    Regards,

Occasionally I've had poor performance happen in the middle of the game....Not sure why, but then if I hit the turbo + fan buttons, almost instantly I get the performance back. Most likely the notebook was getting too hot and throttling the CPU/GPU, in my case.
The buzzing from the power supply could very well just be that you have 'dirty' power at your residence. Not impossible in the least, and I used to deal with this as well. I have a power conditioner/UPS now and I hear no such buzzing. Just something to consider. It's difficult to manufacture and design a power supply that will work great in all scenarios and is small and lightweight.
As Svet said, contact MSI support, they will be the ones that will get things straightened out. By the sound of it, perhaps your fan is bad and that is why the game performance is lacking......

  • Unlock for MSI GT70 0NE-446US?

    Hello,
    Tomorrow I am getting a new MSI GT70 0NE-446US.
I know I am going to be running into problems with the Nvidia Optimus interfering with some games and streaming of said games.
Is it possible to get an unlock for this laptop bios that allows turning off the discrete Intel bios?
The most up to date bios (according to MSI site) is w8_E1762IMS.70U.zip
This is the Windows 8 version with the SATA defaulted to RAID mode.
Hopefully it is possible and once I get it tomorrow, I will donate (or whenever said bios is available).
    Thanks for all the help!

Hmmm.  I have heard that people with optimius systems have been able to use unlocked bios's to be able to disable the optimus auto detection feature and just run the nvidia chipset full time in windows (Aero runs under the Intel chipset normally which is good for battery, but bad for performance).
I thought that when the bios was activated to do this, it doesn't actually disable the Intel, just keeps the nvidia chipset on and just uses the Intel for the output (supposedly normally when the nvidia chipset is being used for a game, it is just writing to the video memory of the Intel chip).
Regardless, if I give it a go, and it becomes a black screen, is it possible to reset it back, or would I be screwed?

  • MSI GT70 0NC 494 - Samsung 840 Evo Problem

I recently brought a Samsung 840 Evo 500GB to replace the WD Black HDD on my MSI GT70-0NC-494 laptop. OS is Windows 8. Im going type out pretty much how I ended up to where I am right now in hopes that maybe someone could catch where I went wrong.
    So here's the story:
The cloning process went smoothly and I was able to load the OS from the SSD without any problems. Then I immediately updated the firmware and I set the optimizations using the Magician software.
I ran CrystalDiskMark and had speeds around ~300MB for both read and writes on the sequential test. Thought that my speeds were kind of slow when comparing them to the others I've seen. AHCI is on. I know my laptop has a SATA 2 and SATA 3 slot but I did plug the SSD in the SATA 3. SATA 3 connection is confirmed through Intel RST application and Samsung Magician. The speed is just not around the ballpark of what everyone is getting.
Ok, let's see the speeds with Rapid Mode so I turned on Rapid Mode and restarted. Then I get a "Start PXE over IPv6/4" message which then leads to the BIOS screen. Turn off laptop, turn it on, and get the same message. Turn off laptop again, turn it on, and the OS loads this time.
I thought that was weird but whatever I got to the OS, I thought. Open up Task Manager to see how Rapid Mode affects my RAM capacity since my regular usage already puts me ~1.5GB below max. 1.9GB shows up on RAM. Thought I'd be starting closer to 3GB. Then again, Im not entirely sure on how Rapid Mode works so whatever. Run the benchmark test through Magician software.
(This pic was from after I reinstalled Win 8 but the performance drop was similar)
Ok, , the read speeds is now garbage. Did the test on CrystalDiskMark and it shows similar results. It was late at night and Im feeling tired so I keep my laptop idle overnight to see if that would help. Nope, read speeds are still garbage. Surprisingly enough, CrystalDiskMark would show write speeds for sequential hitting ~1000MB/s so it seems that the write process is somewhat fine. The read process seems like it's broken.
So I turn off Rapid Mode and see if that fixes my read speeds. Restart. Get BSOD on startup. Turned laptop on and off multiple times to see if anything works but no avail. Thankfully I created a set of recovery disks 2 days ago so I immediately run that now. I was planning to restore the OS to factory install anyways so its fine.
OS is restored. At this point Im scared of installing the Samsung Magician software so I make a restore point. This time I want to see what happens if I install the software and run Rapid Mode through Win 8.1.
Seems like I can't just upgrade to 8.1 without installing a bunch of updates first so I do that. I got impatient so I went ahead and installed Magician and did the optimizations. CrystalDiskMark showed ~300MB/s for read and ~400MB/s for write. Ran the Magician benchmark and it produced the light blue bars on the screenshot above.
Let's try Rapid Mode now. Turn Rapid Mode on, restart, and I am again greeted with the "Start PXE over IPv6/4" message before hitting the BIOS. Now Im telling myself that I messed up again. Turned off the laptop and turned it on. OS is back. Awesome, only 1 try.
Did benchmarks on Magician which again showed that my read speeds were garbage (dark blue bars). I'm not even going to touch Rapid Mode for fear of having to reinstall the OS again. So now Im trying to upgrade to Win 8.1 and see if that fixes something.
Download 8.1, restart, I get some BSOD message with the code "0xC1900101 - 0X20017", restart through BIOS, and I get an error saying that 8.1 failed and Im being reverted to 8. Desktop loads up, I check Magician and my 840 Evo doesnt even appear on the drop down list. The software even says Rapid Mode is disabled even though I can see the Rapid Mode service through task manager.
Now Im just running tests, and restarting the laptop to install additional Windows updates. Upgrade to Windows 8.1 actually went through this time. After the update, Magician now says that Rapid Mode is on and my SSD again appears to be selectable. Read speeds seems to have gotten a *tiny bit* better but it is still extremely low.
Decided to say screw it, disabled Rapid Mode, restarted, again with the "Start PXE over IPv6/4". Turn off laptop, turn on, surprisingly no BSOD saying my system is forever broken. Now Im trying to see if I could salvage the performance back through messing with the settings so I followed most of the advice on another website.
Now it seems that the write speed is consistently good, but again the read speeds are absolutely horrid. I used AS-SSD for the benchmark instead of CrystalDiskMark this time.
And that is where I am right now. I am very sorry that the post is ridiculously long. I've been constantly looking around the internets to see if anyone has the same problem as me and I couldnt find a solution. I wanted to somewhat be detailed with my process so I can know whether this problem is the software or the MSI hardware. Or if the problem is with my specific SSD and that I'd have to RMA it.

How did you go about installing Windows?
It looks like the first time you used some software that ended up cloning it from the HDD to the SSD. That's a no-no in general, and I'd never trust it to work well.
Then the next time, you say you restored it. But you don't say if that was from the SSD/HDD or from recovery media that you had generated.
I'll be perfectly honest, I'd only trust installing from Recovery media when it comes to installing a new drive.
I'd say to do that. Install from Recovery media and see if that fixes the problem.
I will also say that a number of users have had issues with the Samsung 840 drives. Most of them were using the Samsung 840 Pro drives, not the EVO's, but just something to keep in mind. They were only able to get them to operate at SATA2 speeds.

  • Drivers needed for win8 to win7 downgrade.

I recently purchased a 15-F010WM preloaded with Windows 8.  I run a diagnostic program that is only supported on Windows 7.  Im looking for several drivers to make the downgrade possible ie. graphics, usb hub, network controller. Are there other compatible drivers??? I contacted HP tech support over the phone and was absolutely disgusted by the "support" I received.

    Hi:
You should be able to use all of the W7 x64 drivers and software (except the BIOS and firmware files) from the HP 250 G2.

  • What makes a GT70-0NE not able to be upgraded to WIn 8.1?

Its on the non-upgradable section for Windows 8.1
Anyone know why or what problems? I was going to update via the anytime upgrade from 8...
Seems this rocking laptop has enough for the task.

    MSI GT70 0NE-276US 9S7-176212-276 Gaming Notebook - 3rd Gen Intel Core i7-3610QM 2.3GHz, 16GB DDR3, 128GB SSD + 128GB SSD RAID, 750GB HDD, NVIDIA 680GTX Video Card, Blu-ray Burner, 17.3" Full HD

While my post will not answer the specific question asked, I will post it anyway, I would strongly recommend that you DO NOT upgrade to windows 8.1, I own an MSI GE60 and I regret the day I did the update, while I only noticed a slight increase in the speed that my laptop opens (not operates) there is nothing substantial that win 8.1 that will provide other than total frustration and agony...
First my wireless connection went haywire, Firmware updating (which was provided for win 8.0 and solved the wireless issue for GE 60) did not work and then the ethernet connection went down, killer manager stopped working and only solution I could find (since you can't downgrade to 8.0, not that I know of, and since we were not supplied with a windows 8 DVD/CD to re-install) was to rip my HDD off, buy a new one and install windows 7...
Not to mention that Microsoft fills the machine with useless junk such as bing, bing interconnections through apps (which I don't even use) integrating my outlook account to my laptop and use it for logging in, I also experienced frame rate drops on certain games after upgrading to 8.1
If you really want to upgrade your OS, do it at your own risk, oh and speaking of risk, many modifications and applications (such as firmwares) supported by MSI are actually NOT SUPPORTED by MSI, it says all over the pages that the user will be responsible for certain application implementations and such so do be careful I say...
