MSI GT70 2OC-065US LED

Hi there everyone, I have question its rather very odd one though.
i CAnt sem to understand that why my power button light changes from orange to white, its been doing this when i re installed the nvidia graphic driver.
Perhaps someone could shed light on this matter

oh thanks, but then when i play games its always on white
Most likely the games aren't being picked up by the NVidia software as being a game and it isn't switching.
If you go into your NVidia control panel(right click on the desktop, NVidia Control Panel), under the "3D Settings" -> "Manage 3D Settings", if you then look at the right hand window, click on the "Program Settings" tab, and in there you can change the settings for each program/game individually. You can add games, and then set them to use the "High Performance NVidia processor", and it should then use the NVidia card.

  • Looking to buy and upgrade a GT70 2OC-065US

Hey guys, been a owner of a MSI GT780DXR since the release. Love these notebooks and looking to upgrade for better performance on FFXIV and BF4.  So I've found a few MSI GT70 2OC-065US's for around $1200-1400.  But I wanna do some upgrades myself since last time I bought from Xoticpc.com and turns out they didn't do any of the upgrades I purchased except the CPU upgrade and extra ram.  So I decided to buy the parts and do it myself this time. I've had a lot more experience with thermal compounds and system upgrades.
The reason I'm here though is, I'm not familiar with the 4th gen CPU's and need some advice and knowledge from you guys about the GT70.  So basically, all I'm gonna be doing is upgrading the RAM, thermal compound, hard drive, and do a fresh install.
The parts I'm looking at purchasing for the upgrades...
    Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250GB (MZ-7TE250BW) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147248
    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series Model F3-1600C9D-8GRSL http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231703
    and A Full Windows 8 Pro w/ 8.1 upgrade.
Now I'm wondering since I'm not sure about the GT70, are 2 of the ram slots on top of the board like in the GT780 (i.e. under the keyboard)? Will I need to do a Bio's flash for the SSD and is ram I've selected the best option for the system or is there other options better suited? The G Skill say the 1.35V is for 4th gen processors but I'm curious if this is recommended for this board?  Also, any resources out there showing a tear down of the GT70 to it's frame?
Any advice or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

FWIW, I have the best performance from Samsung SSD's  I've been using 4 830's for going on two years as OS SSD drives in 4 PC's, another has a 840 evo as the OS drive.  A little over a year ago I upgraded my Sony VAIO laptop's from the 640GB HDD to a Samsung 840 500GB HDD.  It's been flawless.
I have some refurbed OCZ's, all have been fine, but really haven't had them that long.  My first SSD was a Crucial M4, it is still running strong, but isn't nearly as fast as any of the Samsung drives.  I also have a refurbed Crucial M4, not very old, but runs identical to the original I bought.  I tend to use Newegg and what they sell for refurbs as a guide to what may or may not be a good idea.  OCZ's are constantly on there, just about any make and model.  Crucial started popping up a few months ago.  Haven't checked lately, but last I looked, Still no Samsung refurbs.  That's not to say people haven't had trouble with them.
If you do go Crucial, check out the M500, and go for at least one that is 480GB are larger.  The write speed on the 256 (240GB) and smaller drives are inferior to the other drives, I believe this is true for the M4 line as well.
Always had good luck with GSkill memory, it's the only brand I buy for my desktops, and it's what I used to upgrade my Sony laptop as well.

  • MSI GT70 2OC Realtek audio driver problem

    Hi,
I am having MSI GT70 2OC-065US. I am using Roccat Kave headphones. Headphone is real 5.1 surround one, hence it comes with four 3.5 mm audio jacks. It used to work well and there was sound from each speaker. But since I have upgraded to latest sound drivers provided on product support page, my rear speakers have stopped working. If I exchange the jack with some other then they work, but speakers which are plugged in rear jack don't work. This means new drivers have probably disabled my rear jack.
Kindly suggest a solution to this problem.

No sorry my friend. My PC is not with me on my holiday so can't help as much as I'd like to.
Restore to previous settings, apparently there is nothing newer (in most cases) just simple bug fixes, and I believe you had no probs before?
Thanks for replying and sorry for disturbing during your holiday. I switched back to my old drivers and everything started working perfectly fine.
I guess there is problem with new drivers.

  • GT70 2OC-065US Upgrade GPU?

I am wondering, if the GT70 2OC-065US will accept an upgraded graphics card?  I have the 770m right now, wondering if I bought an 800 or 900 series if the laptop would accept it.
    Anyone have info on this?

Read the sticky topic below, this might be helpful!
You would need to update BIOS first.

  • GT70 2OC-065US-SCM/SBCenima & KLM failing-Prob Event Name "BEX"

Title says it all - after startup the MSI utilities are loading on my GT70 2OC-065US-SCM/SBCenima & KLM popup with dialog boxes stating that these three have stopped working via > Prob Event Name "BEX"  in the appropriate app .exe
Any Idea as to why this is happening - I have uninstalled these utilities for now and can see no other issues but would like to know if anybody has similar experience as these utilities have value
    Win 8/64
Have not updated to win 8.1.

*Be careful that you're posting in the wrong board. Here is only for the workstation series.
Do you have the pre-installed OS on your GT70 2OC?
Those utility are needed with their value for sure, but for getting a BEX error message isn't normal for sure.
If you have the original system, then I'd suggest to use F3 recovery to restore the system back to the factory settings.
    Tutorial video:
Otherwise, if the OS is installed on your own, then re-install it and use all official drivers from MSI website.
    Driver Download link: http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GT70-2OC.html#down-utility&Win8.1 64
To re-install the system is most suggested (in case there are more unknown problems popping up), but if you don't feel like doing it.
Here I found a work around which might help with the current situation, you can also give it a try.
    [Disable the DEP for programs]
    1. Right click on my computer.
    2. Go to properties.
    3. Click on advanced system settings, under performance, click settings.
    4. Click the Data Execution Prevention tab, and then click Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.
    5. Click Add, browse to the executable file for the program and add it.
(BEX refers to Buffer Overflow Exception. For more details on BEX, kindly visit http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc738483(WS.10).aspx)

  • MSI GT70 2OC wins MUST HAVE award by KitGuru

    link: http://www.kitguru.net/laptops/zardon/msi-gt70-2oc-gaming-notebook/24/

Here's what I would personally do....
    Install the SSD.
    Remove the HDD.
Install using the Restore disks, doing a full install.
When it's done, go into Windows and using the Computer Management tool (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management, then go to the "Disk Management" link) and remove the restore partition and leave it as empty, unpartitioned space.
Re-install the HDD into the second bay.
Ensure that the computer is booting from the SSD and not the HDD.
Copy over whatever files you might have on the HDD, and remove all partitions from it, and format it as one large drive.
That should complete what I would do, if it were me.
The reason for leaving the space unpartitioned on the SSD is it essentially gives you more TRIM space, allowing the drive to work more efficiently over a long period of time (ie over years) without 'slowing down' at all. This can happen if you fully partition the SSD and nearly fill the drive. By leaving extra, unparitioned space there, you give it more room to work and make the drive be able to operate more quickly in the long run.

  • MSI GT70-2OC Questions

Hi, I have any questions about my GT70-2OC. Do anyone knows any differencies between 51B bios and 71B bios version?
How I can get it to work Sound Blaster Cinema II software if its possible and SteelSeries Engine? Because i heard If i upgrade my GPU form GTX770 so, SSE will start work. So is there any way how to get it worsk withou gpu upgrade? I think between 2OC and 2QD isn't any hardware different, only GPU is 980GT Thanks.

    51B: UEFI AHCI mode.
    71B: UEFI RAID mode.
They are just different on the default SATA mode. Their BIOS IDs are different too so it's unable to cross-flash. Don't worry.
SSE will only run on laptops with 8xx or 9xx series of NVIDIA graphic cards. If you want to enforce it to run on the laptop with 7xx series of the cards, some said you need some kinds of system tools to modify the hardware ID of your graphic card to cheat the SSE.

  • MSI GT70 2OC Questions (Unlocked Bios, upgrade VGA drivers)

Hi Iam looking for some answers, from what I saw, there are few really awesome helping people here. So Hi to everyone!
AS I noticed there is no GT70 2OC topic here, so there is now.  I will update infos How-to´s and other stuff for everyone that have this revision.
    1. Update VGA drivers, Set as default there is nvidia optimus (Intel+nvidia switching mode)
         Pros:  Battery life
Cons: Faulty switching in some games, just sporadic driver support, 2 VGA drivers at once couse problems with CAD applications and some older games.
Comment: Iam using this as Hi-end mobile solution for work and games, extra 4th hour of battery live comes as real nonsense to me in exchange for ale the troubles.
Possible solution: Unlocking hidden/advanced BIOS options should reveal control for wheter to swithing mode od discrete graphics only. Setting it to discrete graphics only would mean no driver troubles slightly better performance and most importanly possibilyty of regular VGA driver updates from nvidia.
I already send PM to Svet about unlocking bios. But Iam still asking any ideas anyone?

Sadly most of those concerns aren't really valid.
While I have the old GT70 0NE, even on this unit there were no issues ever getting any program (be it Autocad/Solidworks/whatever you like, or games either, even if they were older) to work with the card(s) properly. It's all a matter of making it do what you want, which is actually handled rather well by the drivers. Optimus is much better than it was a while ago, and it functions very well now.
While your your point of just making it default to the NVidia card is valid, it's a very moot point. Every program I've tried (be it 10+ year old games even from the mid-90's, to even the most recent applications and games) works just fine. Again, it's all in how you make the driver work. If you tell it to use the NVidia card when you run this program, it'll work.
I wouldn't worry about making it use only the NVidia card exclusively, it really isn't worth the effort. While it is possible, it's much more difficult than one would think....

  • BIOS Unlock Request for MSI GT70-2OC

    Hi,
I would like to to request a UEFI BIOS unlock for my laptop, the current version installed is E1763IMS.70J but the laptop came preinstalled with E1763IMS.70C.
The main aim of the unlock is so that I can load custom kernels (to install linux) but I would also appreciate it if you could fully unlock the BIOS.
I have made a donation and the confirmation number is: 1LU475121Y029870K
Let me know if you need more info.
    Thanks

Do you need me to upload the bios file? because I believe that the msi website has the 70R archive which made my laptop useless.
you mean you don't want latest version [70S or 70R],
    but 70J exactly?

  • Unable to create wifi hotspot on MSi GT70 2OC

    Hi,
My laptop has killer wifi n1202 card. I tried to create a wifi hotspot on my laptop but it doesn't work.
I tried every available software on the net and tried to create without software also through command prompt.
    But nothing seems to work.
Has anybody faced same problem and has a solution for this ?

Apparently do do not know quite what a WiFi hotspot is. You don't create one on your computer you can access one if there is one in the vicinity of your computer. Read this for better understanding:

Download the ISO file and install the upgrade from there. As for sound yes you need to update your bios as said above. This is something completely different from upgrading windows.
