MSI GT70-2OD - DPC Watchdog Violation

Anybody having this issue with random blue screen of deaths, DPC Watchdog Violation?
Today, I got two BSOD watching twitch streams. I thought it was a graphic driver issue, so I went back to a non-beta driver, but still getting the BSOD's.
Any suggestions?

flash your BIOS to the latest version .70W
http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT70_2OD.html#download
I am scared of flashing the BIOS because I am on my second notebook, where I flashed the BIOS and I had the black screen of death. It didn't boot at all. No MSI splash screen.
I don't remember on the first notebook if I chose the wrong file, but I followed the information to the letter.
If it is the only way to fix it, then I guess I have no choice. I hope it does not mess it up.

My windows partition automatically installed updates overnight.  When I re-booted I received a DPC Watchdog Violation.  The power button re-booted the machine and it appears to be running ok.  Do I have a problem that needs to be addressed?  Appreciate any info and suggestions.

  • MSI GT70 2OD eSATA Port

I might be asking a stupid question here but where is the eSATA port on the MSI GT70 2OD?
On the MSI website under specification it states (sorry can't seem to post a hyperlink):
    eSATA                          1
    eSATA/USB  Combo     1
If it is one of the USB ports, what type of adapter do I need to use eSATA (without loosing performance by running under USB)

    http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gtx-770m
According to that it is supported.
I'm not certain how well it will work, but it should. I would assume it does over Display Port, but I honestly have no idea as I don't have any.

Attach a few more. Maybe we'll get better clues. You might zip up a bunch of them.

  • GT60 2OC-030UK DPC Watchdog Violation

Hi all. I bought a GT60 2OC laptop about two weeks ago for my studies and gaming at University and it has been nothing but a nightmare. At first it would bluescreen randomly but I managed to track the error down to the Killer drivers that were preinstalled. Slightly annoying that a laptop could be sold not in working condition but I updated them and all seemed to be well.
Then the dreaded bluescreen struck again, while listening to music. It said DPC Watchdog Violation which from a bit of googling appears to be related to SSDs not being compatible with Windows 8. I'm sure this is not the case as surely nobody would sell a laptop with parts that aren't compatible, but I would like to know if there is a fix for this issue as it's happened within two weeks of me buying the laptop and I really want everything to be working before university.
I'm also very disappointed with the laptop in general, my old PC had 3 BSOD's in it's 4 years of use, this laptop has had 4 BSOD's in two weeks. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I spent quite a lot of money on this and it's very upsetting that it doesn't work.

    Also....
    [can't post external links]
Knowing that, were you trying to do anything at the time when the BSoD happened? Like plug headphones in or something to that effect?
It might even be better to get the information from the system log to see what the exact error code was regarding the DPC Watchdog Violation. There might also be a driver associated with it that is causing the problem.
I was listening to music like I usually do and it was halfway through a track. The music just stopped and when I turned to look at the screen it looked exactly like the image in the link you posted. I hadn't tried to do anything when the BSOD happened, it just sort of happened randomly. It's not done it again yet but the next time it does I will snap a picture on my phone if it will help.

  • MSi GT70 2OD GPU

    Hi guys.
I´m new here, but I have one question.
Is it possible to change GPU on MSi GT70 2OD notebook? I whould like to change from GTX780M to GTX980M.

It will most likely work fine.  You can get a 980M for $720 and a 970M for $450.  Either card will probably work.  The 970m works fine in my system (a GT60 2OD 780m).  No reason a 980m wouldn't also work fine.  You will need to do a small heatsink mod with a dremel or rotary tool.  Took me about 5 minutes.
Eventually you will be able to find official MSI 970m heatsinks on eBay or forums from other users.  You can then purchase that and have an official MSI heatsink.
There is a thread I created over at notebook review forums under MSI section showing the mod required and how I did it.  Goodluck with your upgrading.

  • MSI GT70 2OD Nvidia Drivers

Is there a reason why MSI GT70 2OD owners are unable to upgrade to the latest Nvidia Drivers for their 780M?
Other brands with the 780M seem to be able to upgrade (Alienware, Clevo etc), but the drivers won't work with the MSI Laptop.
Will we only be able to get drivers from MSI for this laptop, or in the future will we be able to install drivers from Nvidia?

Quote from: Svet on 04-July-13, 18:49:08
nvidia should add support for MSI's as well with next updates.
Svet is 100% accurate with this.
When the GT70's originally came out with the GTX6XX cards in them, they didn't have support from NVidia for a few driver releases. I expect that within the next few driver releases, support will be added.
Most likely, it should be possible to make the new drivers work if you did some INF editing though.....

  • Adding mSATA/mSSd to a MSI GT70 2OD-407US

    Hi,
I'm a new owner of an MSI GT70 (wife finally let me buy one). I'm not at all new to modding computers of varies calipers. I honestly haven't been in the game in 3 years and coming back up the ladder because the technology has changed. I've kinda been in a geeks purgatory(married and in the ARMY), so life's been really busy for me and has not allowed me to keep up with current tech.
My Question. Modding my GT70 2OD-497US:
MAXing RAM to 16GBs, Easy. that's a no brainer.
where I need help is adding mSata/mSSD to my MSI to use it as a boot drive for the Window 7 Home Premium it comes with.. Thinking about add 128/256GB as boot and recovery as well as other important files and using the 1 TB 7200RPM HDD as pure storage to run programs, videos, movies, and music off of. (I'm not a big gamer)
I have not received my MSI yet and won't touch it for another month or so. I have plenty of time to figure it out. This question been raking my brain for a week, so that's why I'm post for some help.
Any information no matter if you're "talking above my head or not" is highly appreciative. If I think I don't know what you're talking about I will ask questions and do tons of research.. I used to be at the top of the GEEK food chain, but starting at the bottom now. I don't mind admitting that. The Army and marriage takes a lot of my time.
Add-on to message: I do not know if the GT70 2OD-407US comes with the msata slot board, it should, but can't seem to verify. If not I can buy one.

So lets back this up with a number of facts.
I can't find any information about the GT70 2OD-497US so....
Does the notebook come with an SSD?
If it does, then you will have the "Super Raid" adapter that lets you put mSATA drives into the laptop.
If it does NOT, then you will NOT have the "Super Raid" adapter, and you will not be able to put mSATA drives into the laptop.....without attaining a Super Raid adapter. This is difficult. MSI will NOT sell them. If you are LUCKY, you might be able to talk to a distributor or company that offers customized MSI notebooks into selling you just the adapter, but I'm not sure they will. If they will not, you're pretty much SoL. Supposedly there was a chinese company selling the adapters, but I don't recall the name or if they still are.
In all honesty, if you don't have the adapter, I would just order a regular 2.5" SSD drive instead and live with it.
A couple of other things I can suggest.
Get at a minimum a 240/256GB SSD. You'll find that after installing Windows and such you only have roughly 75 gigs maybe left on your 128GB SSD. And I just don't think that's enough. The 240/256GB drives are cheap enough now that you shouldn't have any problems getting it.
When you partition your SSD, only partition it for about 85% of the total space (so 85% of 256GB = 215 GB). Leave the rest of it unpartitioned. This is called over-provisioning, and will help to maintain the overall speed of the SSD (read/write speed) during the entire life of the SSD. The reason it does this is because it provides more space for TRIM to work, even if you completely fill the partition you created. If you had fully partitioned the drive, and almost filled it, the speed would start to deteriorate because there isn't enough 'space' to do TRIM anymore and it has to work harder to do it, causing your overall read/write speed to decrease. This is especially bad on Samsung drives.  (for more information, go search around on www.anandtech.com, plenty of good information and benchmarks to backup my statements)
Other than those tips, you should be good to go.....BUT!
The VERY FIRST THING YOU DO AFTER LOGGING INTO YOUR NEW NOTEBOOK? Please please please create the backup DVD's! MSI does not provide backup media inside the box. You need to make these on your own using the included MSI Burn Recovery software.

  • MSI GT70 2OD-019US

Hi. I'm new to this this forum and I'm a 1st time MSI buyer(previously had a Toshiba Qosmio). Anyway, for some reason my laptop sound just doesn't sound right. Compared to other low end laptops in my home, my MSI doesn't get as loud, nor does it have much bass. I just started using the computer yesterday and I followed the instructions that came with the disk (I chose the All-in 1 install for drivers etc.). I'm not very tech savvy so am I missing something?? I read that the Dynaudio sound that comes with the MSI GT is supposed to be outstanding. Also, my friend who owns a computer store suggested that I delete some of the unnecessary junk (programs) that was pre-loaded on my laptop. His first suggestion was to download all the Microsoft updates which I did. He then recommended me to download  Norton's removal Tool and remove the pre-installed Norton's suite. I told him that I was thinking about buying Bitdefender Total security and System Mechanic Pro. His answer was you don't need to buy anything to keep your computer running like new and virus free...you can get all you need for free such as MSE etc. I surf the web daily and download lots of ebooks. What software should I absolutely own to keep my computer running like new and be free of viruses, malware, etc.
Also, what pre-installed programs should I remove that came prebundled with my GT70 2OD-019US??
    Thanks

I haven't had problems with the notebook getting loud enough, but then again, it depends. Some video's the sound wasn't as loud as I expected, but it seemed to be a problem with the video, not with the sound from the notebook.
Honestly, I don't use any antivirus and anti-malware. MS's Security Essentials is really all I need. Then again, I'm a bit of a techie so I know what stuff is good and what is bad.
The Windows installs from MSI are actually rather clean. There's only really a few programs you usually can get rid of from their stock installation. It's much better than most other companies that I've seen.

But recently, there's this error that's been bugging me... "DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION"
Anyways, I've tried looking for solutions and none of them worked at all!
Those people with similar problems posted their minidumps folder so here is mine https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=8890455B2D279646%21360
This error randomly happens (mainly when I watch a video or play games) and it's really annoying!
    Thanks in advanced.
