MSI GT70 Dominator FPS problems.

I recently bought the the MSI GT70 Dominator, and Ive been having some issues with frame rate. Unturned only runs at 25 fps sometimes, and I can't get minecraft over 30fps. League of Legends sometimes dips below 30 fps on max settings, but also sometimes gets above 60fps. Why are my frame rates so unpredictable, and why cant I get minecraft over 30 fps??
Thanks for the help

Do you have GTX 880M? If so you should use 327.23 Drivers. If it is working fine with them then it is famous 880M bug. I suggest you to RMA laptop then and wait couple months to buy GT72 with 880MX or whatever GPU but not 880M.
And you need to google proper modded inf file for this new GPU in 327.23. Search at laptopvideo2go or ask somebody at some forums to add 880M IDs
However  if those drivers will not help and you already tried "launch with high performance Gnvidia GPU" then check temperatures. If it goes above 80-90 then it is throttling issues. Overheating.

  • MSI GT70 Dominator-892 - Problems with an SSD drive in my Raid 0

So I got my laptop back in Jul of this year and i Love it! But I just started getting this error about a week ago.
Anyone know how to fix this? I checked my warranty and it says I'm covered but i have to go to the forums first. I cant crack the laptop open unless i want to void my warranty. Seems like a hardware issue but the computer works fine. I think the only odd issue is that an Intel update continually needs to install and it doesn't seem to take. I've restarted and it always shows up again as if I never installed it. Any one have any ideas?

your allowed to break warranty sticker if thats placed over screw hole that goes to back cover part for ram and hard disks then it wont void warranty, only thing that will void the warranty is if you do damage to motherboard then it voids the warranty.
Best is to download hard disk sentinel and then send us pic of what that program says since if it says health is 100% and preformance is 100% then your msata drives are fine, just intel software must of given false result.

  • MSI Gt70 dominator gtx 870m touch panel issue

    Hi!
The touchpanel of mine msi gt70 dominator stopped working after I upgradded the EC.
I cant use the Fan boost anymore. I still can activate or deactivate wifi through SCM but there is no option to use the Fanboost. Can anyone help me ?

Yes you probably need BIOS too to work with newest EC.
But tell what are your current BIOS and EC versions 1st,
look for them in BIOS setup system information

  • MSI GT70 Dominator Temperatures

Hello I recently bought a MSI GT70 Dominator with Intel i7-4810 MQ & GTX870M and i am really worried about the temperatures it is producing.
I am using the MSI Gaming Center program that came with the laptop to view temps and i discovered today that after playing GTA IV (with modifications) that the cpu temp was at 90C!
The GPU was around there too but it lowered quickly down to 50C and the cpu temp is still sitting at 70C right now..
I remember when i first got this thing it used to sit at 40c idle cpu and like 35c GPU
When i turn it on it stays at 40c cpu and 35c gpu but if i play GTA IV the temps go up fast.
I do not have a laptop cooler? would that help in this situation?
I just got it in May
    Thanks!

Honestly, you should be sitting at around 40C if your room temperature is 25C, when you're at your desktop.
During games, going up to 85C or 90C isn't terrible, but it shouldn't really get any higher than 90C, even with the newer 4th gen Core i7's and GTX7xx/GTX8xx cards.
You might consider doing a repaste job on the heatsink compound for the CPU and GPU. That can play a very significant part in keeping your temperatures lower. Just make sure you use a good silver based compound (like arctic silver MX5 for example), these will provide better cooling than normal heatsink compound.

  • MSI GT70 Dominator Pro Inconsistent Frames

I have MSI GT70 Dominator Pro and I noticed that there has been slight decrease in game performance after playing the game for 7-8 hours. I am currently playing Tomb Raider 2013 and before I started playing the game I did a overall performance test of my laptop with a built in benchmark.
    My Specs:
    Intel Core I7-4800mq
    Nividia Geforece GTX 880M 8GB
    1920*1080 LCD 17.3 inch Screen
    16 GB Memory
    1TB 7200RPM-128GB SSD
Initial Benchmark before playing the game.
Tomb Raider (2013) on Ultimate setting (Tressfx on)
    Min-34
    Max-68.0
    Avg-49.1
Post Benchmark after playing for 7-8 hours
Tomb Raider (2013) on Ultimate setting (Tressfx on)
    Min-28.2
    Max-58.0
    Avg-40.7
Note: GPU and CPU same temperature on both initial benchmark and post benchmark. GPU (max-76C) and CPU (Max (55C). Same background programs and same video card drivers and same game version. I would like to know why there has been decrease in performance even though the factors are the same.

  • MSI GT70 dominator pro 890 For workstation

Ive posted this on the 'workstation' section, as it would fit better there, but my laptop is technically the gaming. So, yes it is a double post one in each forum.
Wanted to know if my laptop was good for rendering, if there were any tips or tricks for using my laptop for video editing, or any tips or tricks for using vegas pro 13 in general. Newbie to this program, normally use cyberlink powerdirector 12.
     MSI GT70 Dominator Pro 890
     i7 4810mq (4900)
     32gb ram
     3x 480gb crucial m500 msata (non raid - 1 OS - 1 media source - 1 scratch disk)
     1tb Samsung evo 840 2.5" (partitioned 50/50 split - 1 Media export - 1 Regular data)
     Gtx 880m 8gb gddr5
     bluray burner
Thermal paste was repasted with antech diamond 7
     normal 17" tn 1080p panel
Question of the rendering process. If I have gpu accelerated turned on in normal preferences, but render using cpu only in the actual final render as options screen,, my 15 min movie takes about 22 min. Temps skyrocket cpu wise for first 5 seconds then calm to 90c (80c with turbo fan), gpu gets to 70c (60c with turbo fan). CPU is around 80% resourced, gpu core max, memory clock max, gpu load 15%.
But if I have same gpu acceleration on main preferences, and change to gpu rendering only under the actual final rendering as options, it takes 28 min, cpu is at 68% (80c max fan), gpu core and memory max, gpu load up from 15% to 30%, memory controller up from 3% to 11% (65c temps).
So what I see is that gpu rendering preferred options but render cpu only, uses some gpu but more cpu, and gives faster results, than total gpu rendering with more gpu power and less cpu.
Shouldn't gpu rendering be far quicker than cpu? I know my cpu is good, but thought that the 880m would definitely beat it out in rendering.

Normally I would like to say this is very good choice, but since MSI have real workstation, I recommend you check below link to find the real machine for OpenGL graphics works!!
    http://www.msi.com/product/workstation/#?category=GT Series&category_no=1151
Yup, great recommendation, and also what I thought and spent about 2 weeks researching before not buying. The most often supplied k2000m chip is crap. What it does for professional programs could be compared to the gtx 755m. The k3000 gpu is a decent mid range chip, but the k3000m is a low end. I'd compare it to the gtx 765m for gaming. Only real benefit would be specific drivers. The k4000m is the equivalent of the 870m but for professional. But isn't offered until you hit the $3000 mark. Reading so many reviews and watching several youtube videos showing side by side geoforce vs quaddro, and some programs like photoshop and vegas pro are actually rendered quicker on the geoforce. While Autodesk and maya were within a min of each other.
I know you probably saw this chart
I saw it to, which in the very beginning of my laptop search I thought I had found the perfect laptop. But after reading user forums, talking to/with people first hand, then watching some you tube showing side by side 780m vs 3100m rendering. I decided that until I could get the 4100m at a decent price, the 880m would suite me well.
The 'workstation' laptops are also 4700mq not the 4800-4810mq.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGP0ga6salw
    Heres one of photoshop comparison
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryf4b6BMjNk
heres a 2 year old maya comparison. While this one is a little off. I found one a few weeks ago that was perfect and I really should've short cutted it. But for maya and solid works, the geoforce is either right behind or right ahead for speed. But when it comes to quality, the quaddro's cant be touched.
When I use solidworks/maya for a project, normally its just something really quick. In which 100% detail isn't important, but speed is. If/when I need a perfect product, that's what the pc is for. My major projects even on a k4100m (the best mobile chip) it would take countless hours to render. My pc, dual titan black, would take 30-60 min. So I  could use laptop to start and work with project, the 880m does a great job at in project editing acceleration, then i save file/settings export. Load on pc, make sure everythings still good, and render on there. But typical large projects are better done on high dpi mouse, mechanical keyboard, and larger monitors.
I'm not slamming you at all. Thanks for the comment, typically you'd be 100% correct. And if i didn't have a full out rendering pc, that would be my only option. Plus, i hope you or anyone reading this learned a little something. Or if im wrong somewhere, i can be corrected and learn something.

  • MSI GT70 Dominator GPU Throttling Issues

Hello everyone, I'm new to these forums, but figured someone on here might have an answer to my problems. I received my GT70 Dominator yesterday, and am having serious trouble getting it to run Titanfall properly. By default I used the Nvidia Experience recommended settings which were 1080p, and High across the board. This made sense because I bought this laptop to replace my desktop which has a Core i5 2400, 8GB Ram, and a GTX 760 in it. My GT70 has the Core i7 4800HQ, 16GB Ram, and the GTX 870M. The laptop's CPU should be more powerful, and the GPU should be within 10%. Titanfall runs at the same settings on my Desktop Flawlessly, but the framerate drop on this laptop is HUGE. The game will start around 60FPS, but will almost immediately start dropping in to the 20's. The FPS fluctuate constantly.
I've tried running MSI Afterburner to see exactly what speeds the GPU is running at under load. Unfortuantely it can't display the info yet (the 870m must be too new.) I tried GPUZ then, and it just says the GPU's specs (doesn't show moment to moment actual numbers.) However the MSI Kombustor software does display the Core speed and Throttle speeds. The Core Speeds almost instantly go down to 888Mhz, and drop off from there. The Throttle speeds go from 754Mhz, to 724Mhz. This is before the GPU even hits the 80C tempature limit. I've never seen this GPU over 900Mhz where 941Mhz should be it's baseclock (which I always thought was the minimum.) Running at 724Mhz whould net between a 20-25% performance drop, and would make sense why Titanfall can't keep up with my Desktop performance.
Has anyone else come across this issue? Has anyone found a way to disable, or change the throttling settings? If I can't fix this then the laptop really doesn't perform at the level I need it to.

    Quote from: hch;100907
NV changed the way GPU works on GTX TITAN and GTX 700 Series, maybe try to increasing the temperature target with some third-party software, then you can raise the performance.
Sorry GTX 870M doesn't work with this.
But the dropping behavior seems normal, cause it will start dropping when hits its temperature limit. that's probably why it acted this way.
Think you can try the methods other mentioned maybe it's the setting or driver version.

  • GT70 Dominator Dragon, Problems with Quick buttons ( Help)

Hi  my friends, first  sorry my engliash its really bad.
Have  a little problem with  the quick buttons of my  GT70 Dominator Dragon. Have  a  moth  with the Pc and I really love it, all work fine but when I update the Pc some  quick buttoms stop working.
where  can find the new drivers? of how I can  fix this??
Here a  photo with the  problems
    Ty all and sorry again

EC reset only needs once, just by removing the battery and the AC adapter and wait for few minutes then plug the AC adapter back on and restart the system.
If you have pre-installed Win8.1, then the first video button should have Power DVD 10 running after pressing. (Only if you don't have the Power DVD software, then it'll show the windows media player.)
G buttons will only work if you have the application installed.
Display off button, G button and the video play buttons will need the right EC firmware and the SCM drivers (plus the right application installed)
Check if you have the latest EC firmware in BIOS menu. (Press Delete button after MSI logo shows up during the bootup to enter the BIOS menu> Main> System Information> EC version)
Full color backlight keyboard (516) *check your current version and make sure after update, the version name is also starts with the same number 5XX.

  • MSI gt70 full of problems

    hello,
A few months ago i bought a MSI gt70 for high school. So i use my laptop for running autocad 2014 (2D and 3D) and some gaming for time to time. But i have alot of problems with my expensive computer. He has so far been two times to the rmh service expected with the same problem again. as bsod 'bath pool header application errors, high CPU usage of 'windows error reporting' 'windows SQM consoltation' and so on.
every time I get my laptop back from rmh nothing happened beyond a complete re-installation. I think my SSD drive is broken, but my laptop just keeps coming back and there is nothing happened. Now I have my laptop a month back and again I have a high CPU usage, application errors, I / O error with hdtunepro and so on.
How do I solve this problem, I do not know where the problem lies and i really need my laptop for highschool, that within one week starts again.
    greetings
    brent

I also have an msi gt70 i have been using it for some months now i am an architect so i run a lot of 2d and 3d application ranging from autocad to maya and 3ds max i feel the issues has something to do with the cooling do u put on the fan when the laptop runs this applications the laptop is stable is just recently i started having issues with the battery am not much of a techno geek but check the cooling and make sure the fans is always on

  • MSI GT70 DOMINATOR 2PC + MSI afterburner help ¡¡¡

Hey guys need your help, im new on gaming laptops, so this it's my problem, recently i bought an MSI GT70 2PC with GTX 870m, download the msi afterburner to check the temperatures of the graphics card, but dont let me do anything, only i can change the clock and nothing more, why happens that? anyone know how can modify the fan speed, because my graphics card got 75-80 ªc when i play

The absolute maximum of the GPU is 93 C, at that temperature it should clock down automatically - if you stay below 90 C everything is OK; my readings hover on about 80 - 85 C max.
With this you probably could set the fan to about 60 -70% with much less noise and decent cooling if you want to be on the safe side:

There's actually 2 places for the memory. 2 sticks are right under the keyboard, 2 sticks are on the bottom accessible by removing the bottom plastic panel.
My GT70 came with 12 GB (4GB x 3). 2 sticks were under the keyboard, 1 stick was on the bottom. I added another on the bottom for 16 GB.
Anyway, all that aside, if you have questions on disassembling the GT70, go to the following guide, it's very accurate:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/uploads/156/MS-1762_Disassembly_guide.pdf
That should be able to help you with removing the memory sticks.
If I was in your shoes, I'd consider just buying all new memory. It will probably cost more for you to RMA the memory or laptop (in shipping it to wherever it would need to go) than to just purchase some new memory.
    Thanks for help
I just removed the Ram on DIMM slot 3 and now im working with 24GB ram without any problems

  • MSI GT70 Dominator Pro - overheating problems

Hi all! I'm very interested in buying that notebook, but i've heard a lot about msi's overheating problems and it worries me. I am aware that gtx 880m requires a lot of cooling and i would like to know if those infamous overheating problems have been fixed ? i don't want to spend so much money on something that works for a month.... I play a lot and i am very demanding in this case, so i predict i'd be playing 4-5h/day on max settings. Will i have problems ? what to do to avoid it ?

You know what?  I already buy it in china.  and it's really high temperature .
For example. I play Call of duty 10, and no matter I open the full effect or normal effect , the temperature always can be 93C  .  I see the Weather temperature is only 20.  and If I'm play Batman:Original    full effect same problem, the 880m temperature is going to 90+ .I'm use normal effect and close the Physical , then the temperature on 82-85....
I'm very confuse,  If the 880m very high temperature .... why use it on laptop.... because if always a high temperature, you really not  good feeling to play anything, because high temperature will let you laptop retired more fast.
Any way I also buy a cooling pad, but looks like not any working....maybe that about the laptop inside design....
well, I search on Internet about GT70 design, and I think maybe the original thermal paste not good. So I buy IC Diamond 7 Carat ICD7 ,but I'm not use it yet. because the MSI chinese customer service tell me if you change it or reload it , They do not offer the warranty........looks like a joke......then what now.....?  I don't know , some friend told me , it's fine to change the thermal paste, but I still warry,  and I'm not continue play the game anymore....because every time the temperature on 90C. I don't any desire to play.
GT70 only 1 Fan for Radiating, not 2 like ROG or Alien, maybe that is a dead design.......
So, these all true story, and if any one has any idea or any advice, please tell me . thanks.
any way I just search the GT70 temperature problem and I in here join every one, so sorry for my bad English.
