MSI GT70 hard drive caddy

I'm looking for dvd hard drive caddy for my MSI GT70 2PE Dominator Pro and I found this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2nd-Hard-Drive-SSD-HD-Caddy-Bay-for-MSI-GT60-GE60-GT70-Swap-DS8A8SH-SN-406AB-DVD-/390795259961
Is that above correct one and do I need some wires or something for this also? And where I can find another 1TB Hitachi 2.5" hdd? I'm also looking another MSI ssd so I could use Raid2 speeds.
Thanks for all your help, I just wanted to create this topic to make sure I won't buy the wrong items.

if your using it in the place of the slimline CD/DVD drive you should be able to use its connector for the hard drive for power and data!
as for the Hard drive they can be got from many places like a computer shop in your area or online if you look up 1TB 2.5inch Hard drive!

    Hi,
The right part number for the hard drive kit is 681976-001. The support website for the laptop is on HP Sweden so run the part number on google.co.uk (or your Swedish). I have found the cheapest on us amazon for $38 or £42.

  • T520 2nd HD Hard Drive Caddy Tray for SSD?

i want to use the DVD tray to add a 2nd hard drive using one of the many 2nd HD Hard Drive Caddy Trays i see online, but i want to use a solid state drive in it.  Can this be done? From what i ascertain via product literature, it appears that any caddy tray i see online says "accepts 2.5' 12.7MM SATA HDD only" or some such."  While there are many SSD's that are 2.5 inch, I've only seen ones that are either 7mm or "7mm (with 9.5mm adapter)."  Is there a product (either a T520-compatible 9.5mm caddy tray or a 12.77mm SSD) that can make this work?  thanks.
    Solved!

12.5mm is the maximum height. A 7mm or 9.5mm should work without any issues

  • T520 : hard drive caddy

Hello, I have a thinkpad T520 and I recently purchased the "ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III" from lenovo.com however it didn't come with a hard drive caddy like the internal drive has
This looks like the hard drive caddy it requires.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Thinkpad-X60-X60s-X61s-Hard-Drive-2-5-Caddy-Kit-YG35A-/320721833450?pt=PCC_D...
Without this the drive will rattle/move around in the bay adapter and not have a firm fit.
It seems very odd to me that lenovo didn't include this considering that it seems to be required. I paid $60 for that bay adapter and I see those drive caddies going for as low as $4 on ebay.
Does anyone know a place where I can get one that does not in anyway involve ebay or paypal? I can't seem to find them on lenovo's site other than having to buy one of their hard drives that seem to include one.
Moderator Note: Edited subject to match content.

Well when i purchased the 500gb hdd and the ultrabay III for the thinkpad t510, the only way which the hdd fits into the ultrabay III is for me to take off the rubber railings and everything else and just put it into the caddy "naked." so far everything has been fine and if you look at the instruction booklet for installing the hdd into the ultrabay III, it specifically states to remove the rubber railings and other stuff and then slide it "naked" into the hdd caddy and then insert it into the thinkpad optical drive area.

  • Hard drive caddy - T61 - How does this thing work?

I have a 200gig hard drive on my T61.  Since my computer has died twice in a year I want to have a cloned hard drive handy to insert and not miss a beat and not fuss with reinstalling everything.
When I bought the machine I also bouht a hard drive caddy...
    http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?...
I bought a SATA 500 gig hard drive and inserted this into the hard drive caddy.
I inserted the caddy into the CD drive area.
    Now what?
When I click on "My Computer" I do not see the drive listed?
Do I need special software to make a clone of my hard drive on here?   Recommendations?
I thought Lenovo had one that came with it, but I do not see anything?
Should "My Computer" see this drive with the caddy?
    All advice greatly appreciated!!

Good advice, same as the Lenovo Tech support.  Unfortunately it does not see the new drive there either...
    Right clicked My Computer
    Manage
    Disk  Management
    (Only C: drive shows)
This is the way to initialize drives, a step before cloning apparently to set up a new drive.
I ordered a SATA to USB cable from Amazon for $28.  Hopefully this will work were yet another Lenovo periferal has failed.
Very frustrated with Lenovo, definitely my last one.  After buying 3 in a year from Lenovo even with a warranty all I get is attitude from customer service.  One guy told me that backing up was the same as cloning.
For anyone with the same problem trying to clone, I believe you will need a 3rd party software to make a clone.
    Norton Ghost - $70
    CloneZilla - Free
    1. Get Hard Drive
    2. Connect new hard drive
    3. Initialize new hard drive
    4. Get third party software
    5. Clone

  • W510 Support for SSDs using hard drive caddy?

I just bought a Crucial M4 512GB SSD and I cannot get this thing to work in the hard drive caddy.  Works fine in the primary slot, but can't initialize/partition/format/anything when using it with my official Lenovo hard drive caddy.  So what SSDs does the caddy support?

Ok, I feel a little dumb.  I got the M4 working.  In the past, I've been able to hot swap my 2nd drives.  Apparently this no longer works (need to figure out why).  I plugged in my old HDD while booted up and got the same "drive not initialized" error on it.  After a reboot, the HDD was up and running.  So tried the same with the SSD and it's working.  I thought I had done this as part of my troubleshooting but I guess not :/

This is the part you need:
Hard Drive Hardware Kit (not illustrated, includes hard drive rubber bracket, 2
hard drive retention brackets, and hard drive connector cable).  732071-001
HP is out of stock. Where are you located? Did you get the hard drive cable or do you need that, too? This kit might work for you, even though it is designed for a cousin model the Envy 15t:
    http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_5&products_id=547
From the pictures I have seen, the connector cables look the same for your model and the Envy 15t and the two rubber rails in the newmode kit will work well in place of a metal or plastic caddy so I would say it will work.
HP does have the kit for the Envy 15t in stock but it includes the cable and a rigid hard drive bracket which probably will not work in your model:
    http://h20141.www2.hp.com/Hpparts/Search_Results.aspx?mscssid=89D17FDB803F478CA15BE6CB1C9A3AA0&Searc...
I do see that the Envy 15 kit will work in at least one Pavilion 15 model, but not specifically yours.

  • Screws to secure hard drive caddy to laptop (DV9930US)?

    Hi,
I have a DV9930US laptop, which has two slots for hard drives.
I recently started have problems with BSODs (0x000000F4), and I think (hope) that I've found the problem.  I was about to try to replace the 2nd drive, but when I went to pull it out, I noted that the connector was barely set into the connector on the motherboard.
When I had originally installed the 2nd hard drive, I noticed that there are two screw holes that match holes in the caddy, but I couldn't find any screws that fit into those screw holes.  The original/1st hard drive has similar holes, but no screws came with that either.
So, I was wondering if anyone knows the specs for those screws, or where I might be able to get four of them?
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi,
You can probably ignore my earlier post.
I just noticed that the captive screws that are attached to the drive cover go through the ears on the drive caddy and into the posts on the laptop, so I think that those captive screws are meant to both hold the cover and the drive/drive caddy itself down.
I put a couple of pads between the cover and the drive then put the cover back on.  I'm hoping that those pads will add enough pressure to keep the drive in place and connected.

  • Adding a 5.25" removable IDE hard drive caddy/unit to a G4/Gigabit.

    Hi all,
I recently picked up a PowerMac G4/400 (Gigabit), which I plan to mate with a Digi001 system and run on OS9 to create a very basic (and cheap) ProTools tracking workstation (will be hired out to cash strapped bands for recording demos, etc.)
The idea is I'll take the sessions from the G4 and edit/mix using the current version of ProTools on my iMac. To do this I want to use removable IDE hard drives, so I can take the audio drive straight out of the G4 and plug it into an external firewire 5.25" drive with the same caddy/setup.
The problem is that the G4 only has one 5.25" drive bay and the DVD-ROM drive is there currently. The bay underneath is 3.5" for a ZIP drive. I remember seeing removable hard drive setups installed in G4 towers but can't find any pics or details online now. Was there ever an optional 5.25"+5.25" drive cage available? Or do I have to hack some metal? I don't really care about aesthetics; the tower is going to be mounted in a rack unit, which rules out just using external firewire drives for audio. That and because it will be rented out, everything kinda needs to be bolted down. Worst comes to worst I can always remove the DVD-ROM drive and simply connect it internally when I need for rebuilds, etc. but there is a legitimate need for people to play CDs so that's not so convenient.
Anyone able to offer some ideas?
    Cheers, Ben.

    Hi-
To use a 5.25" drive, you will have to hack some tin. If you do, a rack like the following would work:
    http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?mainpage=product_info&cPath=213&productsid=316
Only problem is, you would need an external housing to put it in to transfer to the iMac. But, it sounds like you're prepared to do that....
If you put a PCI SATA controller card into the G4, you could use the following 2.5" drive rack, and then use USB 2.0 to transfer to the iMac:
    http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?mainpage=product_info&cPath=213&productsid=21868
Use a controller card like the following:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/ACARD/AEC6290M/
The nice thing about the 2.5" device is that it will fit into the 3.5" optical bay.

  • Second Hard Drive Caddy (Mounting Rails) - 3000 K100

I need to install a second 3.5" hard drive in my 3000 K100 Desktop.  Unfortunately I dragged my feet and called technical support just after my one-year warranty ended.
Is there 1) Any way to mount the hard drive without one of those plastic caddies or (preferably) 2) a place I can buy one or two of those plastic caddies?
I have been searching everywhere on the internet and cannot find where to buy these or even an alternative.
    Thanks,

You will also need 90 degree SATA power and data cables.  Also on eBay at --

I have the rails, but the SATA connectors hit the cover without the 90 degree angle. I ordered the new cables just today.
