MSI GT70 OND-492

So I am about to pull the trigger on this laptop  GT70 0ND-492US.. Anything I should know. I was looking at other vendors and no one seems to come close to the price for what you get.  Anyone have this laptop? Any PROS/CONS you could list for me. It will be used as a desktop replacement. For gaming and watching BluRay movies on the go. All comments welcome!

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't know what kind of headroom the CPU has in these.  I will talk to him about the GPU thing.
Also I am looking at either a Samsung 840 pro 128GB or OCZ Vector 128GB. Will both of these work? Anyone currently using either one of these SSD in their laptops?
Many users have had issues with the Samsung 840 Pro...I would steer clear of it personally.
As far as OCZ, I still steer clear of them after all the various issues they've had in the past with the many drives they've put out there.
I can't speak very much about it to be honest. I have the dual mSATA raid option on mine, and I'm using 2 x Sandforce based drives in it.
If it was up to me, I'd get almost ANY of the Intel SSD's and be done with it. There shouldn't be any compatibility issues with the Intel based ones.

  • MSI GT70 OND-492US Video Drivers.

    Hi,
    I bought a new GT70 OND-492US w/ GTX675MX video card.
Initially when I got it, if I ran a game that would use the video card, the video driver and game would then crash.
So I tried updating the drivers from MSIs website, same issue.
Tried updating the drivers from Nvidias website, same issue.
    Reset the computer, same issue.
Uninstalled/restarted/reinstalled the drivers from the device manager, same issue.
I submitted a support request and the response was just to update drivers off MSIs website/the included CD/reset the laptop.
    Any ideas?

send it back for repair, something is broken on it
Was afraid that's what it would come to.
    Thanks for the response.
Have any sort of best guess on turnaround time for MSI service?

  • MSI GT70-OND + GTX 680m or 8970m

    Hi!
    Looping for some serious help...
After some erratic behavior my i7 3rd gen GT70 just stopped working with MSI 680m 4GB. The card shows on occasions in manager, but both - discrete and HD4000 have no installed drivers and wont work unless 680 is plugged out (then intel kicks in without prob). That happened after some automatic driver updates and possibly BIOS update. Tried a ton of these and Bioses, rather randomly, trying to solve the disappearance of my 680m from control panel, but non of them worked. To make the things worse, I've messed with EC firmware editions trying the "beta" t25,21,16,17 - one of them bricked the lappi for good... Had MSI re-flash the bios (couldn't do the blind flash myself) but they say they can't help me with 680 since it is from GT60 originally and it's not supported by GT70 (I switched it from 675 to 680 in the other MSI laptop some 8 months ago - both worked without a problem until the issue). Don't have access to check my 680m in another MSI to check if it's working and is no hardware failure, but have access to 8970m from CLEVO for some decent bucks - was wondering which bios should I install to run it in my GT70 or which bios/EC firmware to flash so my old 680 start working again... This or that... Any idea? Guys? Svet? Sure will make the donation if needed of course!

I removed the battery and I guess that the serial number is one the figures written below and above the bar code.

    Thanks !

  • MSI GT70 0ND-492 - 128GB SSD upgrade question

    Hey everyone,
I'm a proud new owner of a GT70! Now one thing I've noticed on this laptop is that the stock 128GB drive is far too small. After everything is said and done, you have about 43 GB's of space that you ca actually use.
My question is  this, can this MSATA be upgraded and replaced? Also, is there two MSATA slots on this laptop or just one?
    Thanks everyone!!

    Quote from: Torelli88 on 11-February-13, 13:27:31
Perfect compliment? Is that implying that we can have 2 mSATA's hooked into this laptop?
If you have the 'superraid' option, then yes. It really depends though. My laptop came with a single 128 gb mSATA. Others might come with 2 x 64GB mSATA SSD's. So it really depends entirely on the configuration. I think they switched to using mostly 128GB mSATA SSD's, but I could be wrong.

  • Fan for GT70 OND-492

I was wondering if there is an upgraded fan for my NB.  Possibly a new back cover that might make it breathe better. I am looking for any cooling upgrade for my NB. I already have it sitting on a NB cooler (CoolerMaster X3). Thanks for any help or suggestion you can offer.

I ordered Coollabratories Thermal pad, it showed up today. Will be installing that tonight.  Still looking for a better fan though.

I only have one problem, they have told me that there is no options on the CPU, I have to get it with the i7-3630QM. Despite it being a very good CPU, is this true? Are the GT70 OND laptops only built with these CPUs? On US websites like xoticpc there is the options of CPU's up to supercharged 4.2GHz ones, plus on the MSI website it specifically says on the specifications of the OND that I can get the latest i7, which I interpret as; there is a range on possible CPUs I can have.
The reason this is a problem for me is I mainly want to use the system for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. This program is nearly entirely CPU bound in terms of FPS. So if possible, I would like to try and get this laptop with the slightly faster i7-3740QM or something similar.
    Is this a possibility?

Quote from: bblue on 10-January-13, 00:12:41
I was looking at a possible CPU upgrade on my GT70-0ND to get the VT-d part of virtualization.  I'd like to run a small XP machine there, and a little higher step speed wouldn't hurt either.  The 3630QM doesn't support VT-d, though I am able to create a new virtual engine with no problem.  I read in another thread that some were reporting a failure just by defining a new engine.  I didn't put an OS on mine yet, and it lets me know that.  But no VT-d errors.
Can you update to as high as a Core i7-3840QM (same size and power) without board or BIOS changes?
    --Bill
At this point in time, MSI doesn't whitelist any parts.....the bios should be able to support any chip that fits into the socket, although it might need a little tweaking (see the bios section, where svet can make you a custom bios if need be).
What I would do, is look at the reseller sites (such as xoticpc, gentechpc, and such) and see what CPU options that they offer. Then decide which one you want and find a way to get that CPU (ebay is pretty easy). Installation isn't that difficult in the GT70 series.
I'll probably be upgrading at some point in the near future to either a 37xx or 38xx series CPU. (assuming I remembered the numbers right)
    EDIT:
Gentechpc offers the following CPU's on the GT70 barebones model:
    3610QM
    3630QM
    3720QM
    3740QM
    3820QM
    3840QM
    3920QM
    3940XM
I'd be wary of the 39xx parts due to them being 55W. The 38xx parts are still 45 watt parts.
While the cooling system can handle the 55W parts, you would probably limit your ability to do any overclocking (if you do that sort of thing).

  • MSI GT70 W/ GTX680m - No Driver update

    Hye all,
apparently MSI thinks that just because there`s  some  new Upcoming latops
It can stop updating its "older" laptops drivers.
the GT70-one has been with us for barely 1 freaking year...
and up until now there were no new updates in the drivers front.
So, as a proud owner of GT70-ONE, I expect you guys (the MSI Supporting team) to  catch up, and update your site.
Other wise we, the consumer, would start to "voting  with our feet".
    Example :
    Your Site:
    Version    302.75
    N'vidia Site:
    Version    320.18

Any manufacture I have ever seen only really offers the initial release of the drivers.
My GT70-OND has a GTX 675MX in it. The initial release is what the factory image has and the BETA release on the MSI Drivers download page fixed some issues that a lot of games where having at that time, driver wise there identical. the "BETA" drivers where just the same Drivers that Nvidia pushed out with a modified INI file that included the GTX 675MX.
I remember fixing the INI file my self for about 2 weeks after that "BETA" release until Nvidia added it to there INI file. From pretty much all OEM's I have ever worked with has said to go to the chip set manufacture and get the latest drivers.
    Case and pint.
Samsung Laptop (drivers on there page 2010, Intel drivers a few weeks ago)
Lenovo Laptop (Drivers on there page 2008, Intel's drivers a few weeks ago)
EVGA Video cards (there forums instruct you to go to Nvidia's page and download them, but they try to mirror the latest drivers)
HP Laptop (drivers from 2009 on there page, being an AMD system I had to go to there page to get the latest drivers)
Acer Aspire Laptop (drivers on there page 2011 and again Intel's drivers are a few weeks ago)
I want to make this clear, I am not trying to bash you or anyone here, I'm just trying to make a point and teach you something :P
Most OEM's done update there drivers past the factory image, the fact they released a BETA driver is proof they tried to help us early adopters of a new GPU (the GTX 675MX in my case).
The Driver for my WiFi card in my MSI laptop is the one from Intel's page and using there driver (the chip set manufacture) is much better than the one MSI has on there page, the connection would drop out all the time but a driver from Intel fixed that.
They (OEM's) only offer the Drivers they know works with there products.
As far as UEFI BIOS is concerned. When in Windows your never going to tell a difference, there is no performance advantages, just like darkhawk said.

  • Nvidia in Laptop MSI GT70 card didn't work

Hi I have Laptop MSI GT70
    Contains a card /nvidia GeForce GTX 680M /4GB
The problem is that the card whenever preoccupied Crisis 3 game or the big picture in the developed Steam computer screen becomes black and freezes computer I want you to solve the problem you quickly
Knowing I got the last update for the card.

Hello. I'm having the same problem since days and what I've found don't reassure me. (GE70-OND, with Geforce 680M)
So far it looks like it's impossible to use the NVIDIA card, only the intel HD 4000. I've re-installed the NVIDIA drivers multiple times, completely or not, using the lastest drivers or those from the disk and it still doesn't work. Right now I've made wiped all files and make a clean installation but still the Geforce doesn't seem to work.
In particular if I open the NVIDIA pannel and go to the first option, where NVIDIA show a video to see the 3D, it crashes telling me the nvidia drivers has stopped worked and the screen blink black a second, and it does that repeatedly without the video ever working.
I've had crashes for multiple games, such as Darksider. Deus Ex: Human Revolution also allowed to pick which graphic card to use on the setup, there I saw that with Intel HD 4000 I could launch the game. But if I picked Geforce 680M the program suddenly stopped working, just by selecting the card, not even by launching the game.
I'm running out of idea so if anyone has any please help.

  • How to get Asus VG278H 3D monitor to work with MSI GT70 0NC-002US?

So I just got this monitor for Christmas and it works great in 2D, but my Nvidia control panel will not show the option to set up stereoscopic 3D, I know this laptop is definitely capable of supporting 3D as it has a GTX670m graphics card, and MSI states this in the product description. I have contacted Nvidia customer support, but they weren't able to help, I have updated the graphics card drivers, and am connecting the laptop to the monitor with an HDMI cable. Please help if you can!

Quote from: flobelix on 31-December-12, 00:28:20
There is no hint on product site for this notebook being 3D Vision certified. As this is a notebook it takes not just the gpu but also the screen to be 3D Vision certified. Even if it would be I highly doubt it would work on an add-on screen and not just the notebook's screen.
Sadly....this notebook is 3D Vision certified.....If you actually check the product page, it's one of the major things that are pointed out. Actually, I guess the link I have is for the 0NE (which is what I have), but still...The ONC and OND should be the same.
    http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT70-0NE.html
Right there at the end of all the graphics information it talks about 3D Vision. =/
The 0NC is a bit different. It lacks all mention of 3D Vision. =/
Now....the worst part. 3D Vision requires a Dual Link DVI connection, which this laptop lacks. HDMI is only comparable to a single-link DVI connection as well. That being said, you're pretty much out of luck when it comes to using the monitor in 3D Mode. Especially with the next part....
Lastly.....taken from http://www.techjailbreak.com/msi-gt70-0ne-255fr-gaming-laptop-complete-review-and-specs/ which is for the GT70-0NE....
    Quote
Finally, note that the GTX 680M is compatible with all technologies Nvidia (PhysX, Optimus, etc..) but some of them (such as 3D Vision) cannot be used on the machine, for lack of suitable 3D display. However, if you have the glasses and a 3D Vision screen, nothing prevents you from connecting the MSI GT70 via HDMI and 3D gaming (720p only).
I hate to say it, but it really looks like you're out of luck when it comes to using that monitor for 3D.

  • MSI GT70 Crashes and Blue Screens

I just bought an MSI GT70 and have had it crash every time I browse the web and try to play anything.  I've updated my drivers to try and fix it as well as trying a reset to factory defaults.  So far I haven't had any luck.  It doesn't seem to mind just sitting there but when I play anything it will do one of 3 things.  It will crash the program and send me back to the desktop, it will restart the computer, or it will blue screen.  I've never really had issues like this before so anything that might help would be appreciated.

  • MSI GT70 2PC Dominator Battleship – EpisodeⅠ

    [Introduction]
[Roberts  are the dream of every man] one of my close fellows said. Actually, I am not a 3C fans. But it is really excited that Titan Fall is online now. So I made a tough decision that I never did it before. I purchased the [MSI GT70  2PC Dominator] with last year bounds.
    [Open box article]
Finally, the shipment is coming today. It is true that now is one of my happiest moment in life. I put down all my work and start to share my new toy for everyone.
    Note:
It is sad that I only have a phone next to me. Please forgive me those non-quality and non-professional pictures in article.
That is cool that we can find a big case with MSI log and an extra backpack in package.
There is MSI log on the top of box. Furthermore, I must said the Dragon log is so fashion and beautiful. That is a nice backpack which we can carry it outside anytime.
There is an extra soft layer behind the backpack. It improves the comfortable and air permeability  for user.
In my own opinion, I like this kind of design.
Let’s check what surprise us in box.
We could see the label of GT70 2PC spec on the side of box.
MSI really provide the multi-protection for their products. There are two more cases inside.
We can find MSI gaming mouse/ SteelSeries SIBERIA V2 gaming headphone in box. Besides, there is a small and special box which has MSI Log. We will check it later.
All right. I think we can throw away the empty box now.
Wait a minute!!! The box is still so heavy. It must be something else that we didn’t take out.
Oh well, I see. There is a warranty service book and driver CD in the right side.
Also, battery and adapter are behind the cover.
    Let’s take a family picture.
    We have quick guide/MSI rromotional materials/manual for F3 recovery/driver CD for Win8.1/Warranty service book/ Windows 8.1 guide
Oh my god. There is a signet in that special box. Dragoon postmark is so elegant.
    SteelSeries  SIBERIA V2 Full-Size headset.
Furthermore, it supports 4 different languages. You can find the spec on its box.
Wow. MSI log is on the headphone. Totally, It is customized for MSI brand!!!
Another dragon army log on headphone.
MSI didn’t forget the inside of headphone. A beautiful shield is on it.
SteelSeries also promote this headphone on its website. It is so popular.
    http://steelseries.com/products/audio/steelseries-siberia-v2
Now, let’s show SteelSeries KINZU V2 mouse.
Mouse supports 4 different languages, too. We also can find the spec on box.
However, there is no driver CD in box…LOL. How do I use it? We only can find the cute mouse and manual.
Sorry, my bad. We can download the driver and firmware from SteelSeries official website.
    http://steelseries.com/products/mice/steelseries-kinzu-v2
Of course, there is a powerful dragon on mouse pad.
    Take a mouse family picture.
180W adapter is just like a big strong brick. It is designed by most famous industry DELTA. You can find all kinds of safety signatures on it. It is powerful and undefeatable on playing game.  But please understand that I didn’t suggest dear readers to use it as a weapon to throw/hurt people!!!
The battery is 7800mAh. And you can see all kinds of safety signatures on it.
Finally, our rock star is coming.
The laptop is surrounding by a lot of soft foams.
Huge dragon shield log on it.
Take off the black jacket. Then, we can see a nonwoven fabric inside the plastic bag.
    Game start!!
This universe battle cruiser will help me dominate all my enemies in game .
We can find the security lack/power jack/ RJ45 port/D-SUB/m-DP/HDMI in back. The sales man said it can also support three external displays at same time. I must try the solution by myself when I get my new screens.
On the left side, there are USB3.0 port/Card Reader/HiFi headphone port (According to the spec, it will increase 30% audio performance). I can’t wait to listen my favorite music with it.
I didn’t forget my lovely BD. It also has BD reader/writer and 2 USB2.0 on the right side.
I can’t stop myself to take another wonderful photo with the MSI logo and upper case.
I have a feeling that my dominator is ready fight.
There is a [SteelSeries] LOGO on the  left side. What a surprise it is. YA! We have SteelSeries keyboard on GT70. Absolutely, this is a gamer dream. Best Keyboard vendor SteelSeries and Top Gaming NB brand MSI are working together! It is totally worth for me.
DYNAUDIO, the leader of audio industry. As you know, BUGATTI’s sport cars use the DYNAUDIO. And  MSI is the first notebook in world with this sound of Danish pride.
    HA!HA!
I’m listening the best sound as rich people sitting in their sport cars. It feels great.

There are many thoughtful buttons on middle cover.  (Power/Airplane mode/display on&off/Gaming button/Caps Luck/Num lock).
More convenience buttons, media/turbo fan/backlight LED.
We also have Bluetooth/WLAN/battery/sleep/disk indicators in front of laptop.
Here is GT70 spec and signatures form Sound Blaster CINEMA / nVIDIA /Intel.
An independent On/Off switch for touch pad.
Built-in Camera and Mic on the display.
You can see the thermal design and the battery when we check the back side.
The silver part is our bass. Just like the cannon on our battleship.
    What is under the battery?
The left side is the safety signatures for GT70 and its WLAN.
The right side is Win8 LOGO and serial number.
Now we know my baby is born on February.
    [Power on]
Gee!the Log is shining when the system is. power on .
The keyboard is just like the most beautiful rainbow that I’ve never seen. It is stunning. Honestly, my cheerful tear is dropping.
    Anyway, Titanfall, I’m coming.
What? Something pops up when I attach the network.
    What is [Killer Network Manager]?
Wow. Now I know that Killer high-performance networking products combine intelligence, control and superior networking speed for HD video, high quality audio, and online games. That’s great. I hate the evil [LAG] in game.
    https://www.qca.qualcomm.com/products/killer-technology/
After the quick test, it is time to install my game.
I find a secret app in the tray of task bar during the game installation.
YA! That is SSE (Steelseries Engine). I can set my own hotkey, backlight LED and combo key with this good friend.
SSE is a smart app. It recognized my GT70 and my mouse immediately when I launch the app.
Sorry again. I was wrong because I don’t need a mouse driver. The SSE can control all of the actions. It is so sweet.
It is the time to say goodbye. Titanfall is calling. See you on battlefield!!!

  • MSI GT70 2PC-1044US - HDMI / GPU / FAN issues

    MSI GT70 2PC-1044US - HDMI / GPU / FAN issues
I am having trouble with my HDMI port on a brand new MSI GT70 2PC-1044US . Whenever I plug my HDMI cable from my notebook to the TV, after a few minutes (5 - 20 minutes), my fan will start reving at around 5k RPMs and sounds like a jet engine. When this happens, according to MSI Dragon Gaming Center tool/monitor, the GPU temp reading hits 255 degrees Celsius, which is clearly a glitch. I used another monitor, msi afterburner, and when this HDMI problem happens, this tool reads a normal 40 degrees Celsius.
Here are the things I have tried so far but the problem keeps reoccurring:
    1. Called MSI tech support, sent me the link to the newest BIOS and updated it
    2. Called MSI tech support again, claimed the HDMI is controlled by the intel graphic controller, and they recommended that i update intel drivers (every software tool on my notebook says it's the NVIDIA GPU that controls the HDMI port /shrug???), so i did this as well.
    3. Called MSI teck support again, they suggested I send the notebook back to MSI so they could take a look at the hardware. I did not do this because I did not trust the tech guy and did not want to wait a few weeks to get my notebook back
    4. Luckily, the store I bought my notebook at was nice enough to replace my notebook for a new one. I got home, tested it, and the same thing happened. So I think we eliminated faulty hardware.
So now what? What else can I try?

have you done EC reset? https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/how-to-reset-the-ec-embedded-controller
can you try to plug the HDMI into your dell screen[insteal of sharp TV] to check if the same issue will hapends?
Install latest Intel GPU drivers from: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/graphics
    then retest
-Yes, I did the full EC reset. Once the EC flash was done, I removed the power cord from the back and the battery and let it sit for a few minutes before restarting.
    - My Dell monitor is old, and does not have an HDMI port, but I will try a different cable on a different TV.
-I already have the most recent intel graphic controller drivers, this one of the things the MSI tech support guys asked me to do by phone
