MSI GT70 SteelSeries Keyboard Issue

Hey guys. I bought a MSI GT70 recently but I got an issue with my keyboard. The "A" button doesn't work properly. I need to push it really hard to work, i mean a normal touch isn't enough to make it type. So I decided to replace my keyboard with a new one. But I don't know where to buy/find another one. Is there a special serial name for steelseries/MSI GT70 keyboard?
I hope you can help me to find a new keyboard, or I am open to new suggestions
Sorry for my English.

You won't find a new keyboard available separately. Contact MSI about it. Most likely rma is the way to go: >>How to contact MSI.<<

  • MSI GT70 Steelseries keyboard doesn

Hello i have a big time issue with my laptop, it started since this morning when i wanted to work with my laptop.
I have to connect Another keyboard to my laptop to write this because my steelseries MT70 laptop leyboards won´t work.
They glow yes but they dont work. Some rare time when try to see if it works it just spams a letter and i cant get it to stop  so yes something is very bad with my laptop.
Yes i did SCM and it told i already had the latest version and i tried EC and it didn't help. But maybe because i waited to put the battery back on after 2-3 mins.
I followed this https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=170566.0 and it dont working.
    Please help!!

You can check whether the connector between keyboard and motherboard lose or not .
    It's something looks like this.>>http://www.laptoprepair101.com/wp-images/damaged-connector/fix-broken-keyboard-connector-02.jpg

  • MSI GT70 2PC - Keyboard problem

Hello... I'm having some trouble with my Steelseries keyboard.
Whenever Steelseries Engine is running in the background, my keyboard is not functioning at all.
I am unable to type anything, except when I go into Steelseries Engine and try to change macro shortcuts. The keys are recognized.
However, when it comes to internet browsers, notepad (everywhere else), the keyboard doesn't function at all.
As soon as I quit the Steelseries Engine process, they keyboard starts working as intended, at the cost of having a bright white light as my backlit color.
Every time I restart my laptop, the keyboard works completely fine... but as soon as SSE runs, it stops working. So I'd then have to exit to proceed as normal. I have tried to update the SSE to the newest one, but no success.
Does anyone have an idea of what might be going on?

    Hello Lilarban97,
Suggest also updating the BIOS & EC. I remember SSE requires some support from BIOS & EC or there will be some weird symptoms happened. SSE will create some virtual devices in the system to make some keyboard functions to work. Based on the symptom you described, the created virtual keyboard seems to suppress your physical keyboard device due to some unknown reasons.

  • GT70-0ND Keyboard issue

    Hey guys,
I have a problem with my laptop keyboard, it writes 2 characters instead of 1 when I push some letters or numbers; for example if I press W it will write "9w" or if I press R it will write "4r" anyone else had this problem? I think it might be the keyboard drivers cause it has windows basic 102keys keyboard driver. But the actual keyboard has 103 keys.
If anyone knows anything about this or what might it really be please reply.

    NathAce07,
it is then most likely a hardware issue. Contact support about it maybe they can help as the GT70 should come with one year of worldwide warranty: >>How to contact MSI.<<
    Jacksun,
this is not about your issue. If your keyboard isn't defective like the one in question here open an own thread. Otherwise you know what to do.

  • Msi gt70 with some issues and questions answer asap thanks

my first issue is my ssd it is just too small how do I increase it probably a step by step link to where I can purchase and learn how to install it second of all I really need my msi burn recovery so my f3 does not work anymore, I have my drivers cd but that doesn't have it, the next issue is softwares I use when the render the use my ssd and that makes them seriously slow the need more memory space I wish I could make them use the bigger harddrive at least for the main time till I get a new one, my soft keys work except eject and wireless off all others work

    Wow.....
Well, first off, try and use some periods here and there. Or a list. Something to atleast break things up in a coherent manner.
So, you want a guide on how to install another SSD. That's a pretty complex matter, judging by what I can get out of your post, your technical prowess may not be where it needs to be in order to do that.
Also, without knowing what you currently have, other than it is a GT70, it really makes it difficult to tell you what to get.
As far as your software, I'm sorry, but there really isn't any way to help you since you seem to have not made the recovery disks like you were supposed to. I would contact MSI for more information on how to proceed at this point.
After we get the above sorted, we can work on your other questions.

  • MSI GT780DX Serious keyboard issue - Help Needed

    Hello everyone,
I have an MSI GT780DX and a few months ago it started to fail the x key when I pressed it...
After sometime it started failing the W key...
Then it was the arrow down key...
So I bought another keyboard and I managed to install it in place, the led lights worked just fine but I'm with a terrible issue now.
The keys are all wrong, for example the space bar = backspace when I press it, the a = ; the  j=l and so on... all the keys are mixed up...
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this and how to fix it?
My notebook is the msi gt780dx with Win 7 (its the original Win7 that came with the notebook)... The new keyboard has the same part number but its symbol for the windows key is different (it's the Win 8 logo)
Please any help would be gladly appreciated.
    Best Regards.

Hi I tried resetting the EC and no change...
Then I try installing Win 8  but at the serial number screen the keys are already messed up...
Tried with ubuntu also and the same.
I'm assuming its not an OS related problem...
And yes, warranty was already off when I switched the keyboards.
    Any other ideas?
Does anyone also know where can I find a Win7 keyboard for this notebook?
    I'm running out of options...

  • Absolute confusion....MSI K8MM-V Keyboard issues?

Okay so here's the setup...really basic...
    PSU:  300W ATX Power supply
    CPU: AMD Sempron 64 2600+ (socket 754)
    Memory: 512mb PNY "Optima" PC3200 (DDR400)
    Mobo:  MSI K8MM-V
    Biosrev:  W7142VMS V 1.8  011806
Keyboard:  Everyday run-of-the-mill PS/2 Keyboard that has been confirmed to work on another system, and that has been plugged in PROPERLY in the purple PS/2 Port of the mobo
    The problem:
"Keyboard error or no keyboard present"
What in the world is going on?  I thought initially that maybe I got a bad motherboard...but I went out and bought another one of the exact same mobo and lo-and-behold I'm having the exact same issue!   The keyboard is plugged in just fine and it's not even getting powered up (the lights don't turn on).  I tried using another confirmed-working keyboard (the one I'm typing on now) and still no dice!
I'm beginning to wonder if there is some sort of hardware incompatibility or something?  The funny thing is, the error message sometimes interjects itself within the text of the IDE detection.
I hope someone can provide some insight on something here. Thanks in advance.

Yea, I don't think it's the mobo either...but I'm kind of lost as to what it could be.
I've tried many different keyboards and I'm having the same problem...
The setup I'm using is totally barebones as well...
And yes, I tried a more powerful PSU and I had the same problem again.
I'm going to try out a different brand of mobo...if I have the same problem once more then I know it's some other piece of hardware.  Otherwise maybe it's just my poor luck.
My only other guess is that I'm using DDR400 RAM that isn't listed as compatible on the MSI website... I don't see why this is a big deal because DDR400 is DDR400 so we'll see.
    Thanks for all the help.

  • MSI GT70 0NC Keyboard Lag

About once every 2 hours, my keyboard goes into freak mode (for up to 30 minutes) where the keyboard frequently will stop working entirely for a few seconds at a time, or my input on keys is delayed anywhere from a couple seconds to about 10 seconds. Even typing this right now it's occurring. For example, the last sentence I typed, nothing showed up in the chat box. I typed the whole sentence out, then after about 5 seconds, it processed it all instantly and the whole sentence showed up. It's incredibly obnoxious. It's not something that occurs in any specific application. It occurs everywhere, so it's definitely something up with the keyboard or some application malfunctioning or something.
I've also noticed the same thing occurring with the mouse pad on the laptop. I don't notice that one as often because I use an external mouse, but I'm sure it happens about just as often.
Any solutions to this would be great. I've searched everywhere for a solution and can't find one for the life of me. This has been occurring for probably 6 months now. If anymore information is needed, just let me know. I'll reply as well as update this main one with that information.

    Strange.
What about fresh OS install without Symantec antivirus? Grab a free Avast for few days and see what's going to happen.
EC Reset helps for short while. Something wrong with temps possibly? Or HDD is not fine? What OS are you using? And, are able to install different one just to check it's not related to the software/drivers?
As Svet is our BIOS guru, he would surely advise you to update BIOS then
Provide current BIOS and EC versions (within BIOS). Then I hope he will give you instructions and file on how to do this.

  • MSI GT70 - Keyboard "problem"

    Hey, everyone!
I just bought a MSI GT70 gaming notebook, and I'm having some difficulties finding out how to turn off the keyboard lights. Every time I click the "Keyboard light button", it changes the style. The style customiser in the Steelseries software doesn't let me change one of the styles to the lights just being off.
I'd really like to keep them off for various reasons, while I use an external keyboard. Sorry if this is a newbie question about a very minor issue, but I did try to search the internet with no luck.
    Thanks in advance, Best Regards
    Rendio

Stop/disable the service that runs the lights. On my older GT70 it is KLM (Keyboard Light Manager).

  • [SOLVED] MSI GT70 keyboard buttons not working

Hi! I am a normal user of computers that like games, so I bought this awesome notebook MSI GT70 i7 16gb ram GTX 675MX 128ssd+750hdd, with a keyboard by steelseries.
Everything was ok, using the notebook as came when I bought, with OS windows 8, with no format nor modifications by me, using it since January 2013.
The problem is that about 1 or 2 weeks some shortcuts of keyboard arent working anymore:
    - Wifi button isn't working and isn't becoming orange when pressed, and Fn+F8 isn't working either;
    - Screen shutdown button is becoming orange when pressed but not working;
    - Cd-dvd eject button is becoming orange when pressed but not working;
    - I tried also Fn+F9 and Fn+F12 shortcuts, and I think they arent working either.
At the same time, the Cooler button and the Backlight's Keyboard button are working correctly. Turbo button maybe is working too but I don't know if something become overclock when I activate it.
I would really appreciate some help, since I love my notebook very much, and I hope it's not a hard problem to solve.
    Thanks!

Try resetting EC: >>How to reset the EC (Embedded Controller)<<
If that doesN't help uinstall SCM and after reboot install latest version: http://www.msi.com/service/download/utility-19670.html
Also try updating .Net Framework 4.5: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36377
    Hi,
    I followed your advice:
    1. uninstalled SCM, restarted
    2. installed SCM, restarted
    3. tried to update .net framework, had it already
    4. resat the EC
But unfortunately it did not change my GE60 2OC's behaviour: when i press the back-light button it opens my browser with dragoonarmy/msi.com>/ BUT NO LIGHT.
Do anybody have a suggestion to solve this??
    Thanks Kurt

  • MSI GT70 Serious Issues

I own this version of the msi gt70 gaming laptop which I purchased from Canada Computers approx a 8months ago.
ca.msi.com/product/nb/GT70-0NC-002US (intel i7 3610 and no raid micro ssds)
[**sorry not allowed to post external links**]
When the laptop is turned on, it is utterly unresponsive, but in a weird way.  Cant click and drag the boxes on the desktop, cant right click and have any options show up, cant click the start button, NOTHING works.  If i either press the windows key which opens up the start menu or open up  task manager everything runs fun for a little bit, but will continue to act up randomly such as erasing what has been typed in the url bar.  Extremely frustrating.
These issues have been going on since day one but as it took months to save up money for this laptop I didn't want to accept it was broken, and worked fine as long as I opened up task manager every time I turned it on(This includes hibernating, restarting, sleep) until its been causing some serious problems lately.
Sounds alot like a virus, but I feel I've eliminated that option(always had virus protection/ran multiple ones lately btw)
What I've done to try fix it:
1)Fresh install off the msi recovery disks I made
2)Fresh install of a different copy of windows 7
    3)Redownloaded and updated all drivers
    4)Rebooted system using windows 8
5)NEW HARDDRIVE: put msi recovery disks on this
6)Put a different version of windows 7 on this new harddrive
    7)flashed bios
    8)Ran more virus scans
    Same problem, same issue.
Ive put the old harddrive back in, rebooted from the msi recovery disks and plan to bring it to Canada Computers as I have a 3 year warrenty, but before that,
I really hope one of you wonderful people could help me out, give me some insight as to what is wrong, or if I should be contacting MSI soon(probably 8 months ago to be honest...)

Have you checked your temperatures using CoreTemp and MSI Afterburner to verify it's not overheating?
I will say, that it does still sound like a virus, and a very nasty one at that.
In my time, I've seen some that really are very nasty. There was one that I saw that actually was able to be transmitted via the graphics connection to the monitor, and was able to store itself inside the memory of the monitor. As strange as it might sound, it did, and it could be re-transmitted back from the monitor. And it did some very strange things.
If temperature is not an issue, my best guess given what you've done, is that you've run into a very very nasty virus. I assume that there are no processes being shown in the Task Manager that are eating up all your CPU cycles? If not, then yeah, probably a very nasty virus. And if that's the case, I'd be worried that anything you had connected or used with the laptop might be infected. Even mice, keyboards, etc....just because they all hold some amount of memory, and it could be in that as well.

  • MSI GT70 2PE DP keyboard software

    Hi there...
When I got the laptop, it was bearly working at all, but after returning it and they changed 4 or 5 things in it, it have been working very smooth:-) However, got it back with win 8, instead of 8.1, not a prob... but, for the keyboard, I only got a MSI Keyboard LED manager installed, and not the steelseries program that let me config whatever key to the function I want... that function was actually one of the reasons why I bought this pc soon a year ago, and need it back... BUt can
t seem to find it on the MSI GT70 2PE DP site or the disk that followed the pc, anyone know where I can get this?
    thx:-)

You do not need KLM to make your keyboard stunning. SSE can be downloaded here:

    MSI GT70 2PC-1044US - HDMI / GPU / FAN issues
I am having trouble with my HDMI port on a brand new MSI GT70 2PC-1044US . Whenever I plug my HDMI cable from my notebook to the TV, after a few minutes (5 - 20 minutes), my fan will start reving at around 5k RPMs and sounds like a jet engine. When this happens, according to MSI Dragon Gaming Center tool/monitor, the GPU temp reading hits 255 degrees Celsius, which is clearly a glitch. I used another monitor, msi afterburner, and when this HDMI problem happens, this tool reads a normal 40 degrees Celsius.
Here are the things I have tried so far but the problem keeps reoccurring:
    1. Called MSI tech support, sent me the link to the newest BIOS and updated it
    2. Called MSI tech support again, claimed the HDMI is controlled by the intel graphic controller, and they recommended that i update intel drivers (every software tool on my notebook says it's the NVIDIA GPU that controls the HDMI port /shrug???), so i did this as well.
    3. Called MSI teck support again, they suggested I send the notebook back to MSI so they could take a look at the hardware. I did not do this because I did not trust the tech guy and did not want to wait a few weeks to get my notebook back
    4. Luckily, the store I bought my notebook at was nice enough to replace my notebook for a new one. I got home, tested it, and the same thing happened. So I think we eliminated faulty hardware.
So now what? What else can I try?

have you done EC reset? https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/how-to-reset-the-ec-embedded-controller
can you try to plug the HDMI into your dell screen[insteal of sharp TV] to check if the same issue will hapends?
Install latest Intel GPU drivers from: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/graphics
    then retest
-Yes, I did the full EC reset. Once the EC flash was done, I removed the power cord from the back and the battery and let it sit for a few minutes before restarting.
    - My Dell monitor is old, and does not have an HDMI port, but I will try a different cable on a different TV.
-I already have the most recent intel graphic controller drivers, this one of the things the MSI tech support guys asked me to do by phone

  • MSI GT70 202US upgraded to win 8.1. Lots of issues

    hi,
i recently upgraded my msi gt70 202us from win 7 to win 8.1 to increase the performance on BF4.
i am facing alot of problems. i just hate this lan card. bigfoot killer networks has the most unreliable hardware and drivers. i cant get the software or the drivers to install. upon trying to install the latest version Bigfoot Networks Killer Network Manager 6.1.0.603 (64Bit) i am getting an error saying
"Your hardware is not supported on this version of windows. The installer cannot continue"
although this version is compatible with win 8.1 as said on the website.
I am trying to just install the drivers and that is not working either.
I tried installing the earlier version, that didnt help either.
and i cannot get the keyboard backlight to work or the eject cd tray option. can someone please help me with this.
and on additional note i would like to update the bios aswell. can someone please help me with that too. I havent updated my bios ever, but i have upgraded from win 7 to 8.1. as i read somewhere upgrading the bios on my model which came with win 7 is not suitable. is there a safe way to update bios.

    Quote from: James D on 24-December-13, 03:10:50
If your laptop came with Windows 7 then you should install Windows 7 BIOS only. However if you want all keys work then install Firmware for Windows 8.
    Again, James, you are wrong.
Re-read your sentence again (if you can understand your own sentences).....
They do NOT need to install the Firmware (or EC firmware) in order for it to work in Windows 8. They need to stay with the Windows 7 EC firmware that originally came installed on their laptop. SCM and everything else work just fine under Windows 8 (and 8.1.....if it works at all) using the EC firmware for Windows 7. How do I know this? I have a Windows 7 based GT70 with everything working fine in Windows 8. Not only this, but it's been said over and over and over. Apparently still hasn't sunk in yet though for some people.
Its ok, these things can get very confusing for some people.

  • MSI GT70 20C WIN 8.1 UPGRADE ISSUES!!!!

Hello everyone  A bit of a quagmire here.  I have a new MSI GT70 20C.  It is an awesome gaming machine to say the least.  I decided to choose the best of two evils and decided to upgrade to WIN 8.1.....
    Here is the issue:
    1:Uninstalled the old Killer E2200 LAN/WLAN/BT 4.0 Drivers.
2:Installed the new Drivers provided by MSI and all work except LAN.
3:Uninstalled everything and tried again but this time noticed that when device manager is open and installing the driver pack, the device manager refreshed about 10 times or so and it is all fine until after the program says to reboot then the LAN is not working again.  I proceeded to uninstall and re-install this time to cancel the install as I realized that there is something in the driver pack that is conflicting with windows during the install process. I restarted the system and now it all works.
This is not just a request for assistance from support but also a really strange assist.  Please respond if anyone encounters the same situation.

I've got the newer/newest gt70 dominator pro, which came with windows 8.1 installed.
So I don't have the same issue as you.
But with killer and drivers for it, ive had nothing but problems.
As of right now, I deleted the killer suite and only have drivers installed. The LAN driver in my device manager shows the yellow exclamation mark, but it works. So that's where I am and that's where im choosing to stay.
I will end up, and soon, getting an intel wireless card, but not sure if you can replace the lan as I think that might be part of the board.
