MSI GT72 2QE screen and ram

Hello,
I bought a MSI GT72 2QE-476NL. Some sites say its a IPS screen and some say its a TN..
Is there a way to check what screen i have?
Also i want to add a extra 8GB ram, but i cant find what type i have now, the 1 slot that is in use is not visible from the back..

the RAM is DDR3L 1.35v or less
other than that is just DDR3L the L means low voltage
the screens in almost every 17in MSI are TN based you do see some IPS at 15 and smaller
but not as much as other mfgs
i need to know how much ram you have then i can tell you how much you can add
the GT72 2QD base has 4 sodimm DDR3L slots ratted for 1600mhz
the 12GB models have 4GB+8GB in the slots under the keyboard leaving both bottom slots open
the 16GB models have 8GB+8GB under the keyboard still leaving the slots under the keyboard open
the 24GB models have 4GB+8GB under the keyboard and 4GB+8GB in the bottom meaning all slots full
the 32GB models are full 8GB X 4 and this is max ram supported
as far as i know they are all running at 1600mhz effective DDR3 my 12GB model 2QD 406 has 9-9-9-20 timings at 1600mhz 1.35v without your full model number or the first 8 char and number from the Serial number i can't say much more

  • MSI GT72 2QE wins Editor's Choice Award (PC Comparatif, France)

PC Comparatif, a media from France where lies the capital of fashion and lives users who are picky and have high quality standards, after comparing the G751 with MSI GT72, gave MSI GT72 2QE the Editor's Choice with a full score rating.
    Quate in English (translated)
"Throughout the whole reviewing process, we had been asking ourselves whether we could find enough reasons, after our thorough examinations, to give this model a maximum score. The suspense lasted until the very end. We finally confirmed that it was indeed the latest model we had tested recently that had such a privilege to win this compliment. If the G751 makes us exciting (especially its silence and the aggressive price), GT72 possesses all those features and there is no denying that GT72 surpasses the G751, not necessarily in terms of power since both have equal components, but in terms of features/functionalities. MSI did not fail to make this model an ideal alternative for the desktop gaming environment...All those elements have already made GT72 a great choice. But in the end, the decisive variable is the product upgradability: MSI GT72 supports completely change of the GPU, the core component for gaming machine, so that you can keep your configurations the most update ones. Given the investment one has to make in a portable gaming machine, this option shouldn't be just a dream. "

  • MSI GS70 2QE - Screen Askew

    Hi,
I bought an MSI GS70 2QE last week. I've noticed the screen is ever so slightly askew, its minor but its offputtng given the price of the laptop. I'm currently in talks with the place I bought it from who are saying they cant see the issue and have contacted MSI who also dont see the issue.
Can any MSI board members comment on the following images.
You'll notice if you zoom in on the left and right lower hand sides of the screen where it sits neatly next to the laptop body there is more of the black bezel showing on the right hand side.

They are saying not. They are happy to take the laptop back and look at it but if they don't see the issue they will return it to me. I've given them the exact photo. Everyone at work can see it etc, but I'm concerned they will see the issue and consider this within manufacturers tolerances. This will mean the laptop will have done a round trip to their office, been inspected and returned, something I don't fancy on a laptop costing over £1600.
I've asked if they will allow m to pay a restocking fee but they don't seem to want to do this either.
The issue is definitely there but I think its a case of whether I'm being too fussy or not. I don't believe I am.

  • MSI GT683 Black Screen and full fan speed at startup

    Hello!
SO this morning i woke up and was about to start my lovely laptop.
I pressed the on button and the screen remained black and the fan sped up slowly and slowly, after 10 sec it was at full throttle!
Yesterday i got tired and put my laptop to "sleep mode" because I meant to use it later, but I fell asleep can something have happened by that?
I have had this laptop for 3 months, never had a single problem. But now this :(
And a really need my laptop for school now!
When i bought it one 2GB ram module was changed to a 4BG so the total would be 8GB, and a 60GB SSD was installed on the second HDD slot.(Boots on 22 sec )
I have played a few hours of COD MW3 but i have a coolermaster laptop cooling pad with 2 fans, so the laptop did not get so hot when i played.
    So please anyone help?
(I´ve tried booting with only one ram installed and tried my ssd in my other laptop, both are fine.)

I know this is an old topic but I just had the same issue and wanted to post my results in case anyone else was having this issue and stumbles on this thread. I was playing a game on my laptop, temperatures were well within the normal range, and suddenly the computer made a sort of "zap" noise and the screen went black. The computer also fell deathly silent but the power light (the shield) was still on. No indicator lights on the mouse pad and the orange lights around the screen had gone out. I had no choice but to do a hard shutdown. When I turned it back on, the screen remained black, the power light remained lit, but no other lights on the computer. The fan was on ultra speed in a way that I have never heard my fan run. I smelled the exhaust to see if I smelled burning but there wasn't any sign of that. Anyway, I let the computer rest, tried again the next day with the same result. I contacted my warranty company, started a claim, and waited for them to send me the box so I could ship my laptop to them. In the meantime, determined as I am  , I tried the laptop several more times in the next few days just to see if I would have any luck. Sometimes the fan would come on and sometimes the laptop would be ghostly quiet but otherwise everything else was the same. Same blackness, same nothingness. I immediately assumed this was a major malfunction, most likely the motherboard. When the warranty company took the information for the claim, they agreed that it sounded like the motherboard or possibly the hard drive.
Three weeks later, my laptop is on its way back to me. I received word from the warranty company that the issue was the graphics card. This completely blew my mind as I wouldn't expect the graphics card to prevent the indicator lights from flashing, the  soft touch keys at the top of the keyboard, the lights on the sides of the screen, etc. They are the experts however, right? They said the video card malfunctioned. They replaced the video card and now the laptop is in working order. They are sending it back to me now and I should hopefully receive it in the next couple of days.
Sorry for the looooooong response but I wanted to give as much info as possible because I couldn't really find anything when I was searching for this same issue. Hope it helps someone!

    Hi all,
    I am having a problem with my motherboard PM8M3-V and 2 Kingston 400 Mhz(1GB) 2.6v.
When I was using with 1GB memory ( 2x512 Kingston 400 Mhz 2.6v), it was working well. After I have extended to 2 GB(Put 1 more GB), it is restarting automatically (with blue screen) when the computer is a little busy. I have tested with both Windows XP and Windows 7. Both having same problem.
    Please kindly answered me....
Can it be motherboard problem(MSI supports till 2GB) ?
    Thanks

What about the memory voltage option? [2.6/2.65/2.7V?]
But it works fine with memory clock set to 166Mhz

  • MSI KT3 Ultra 6380E and (RAM)

    Will the KT3 Ultra(6380E) support a 512mb DDR RAM at 400mhz?

I`m thinking the MB`s and memory are backwards complient, meaning sure 400MHZ memory will run in there, but the MB will not be able to run it @ 400MHz only 333. Right from MSI product info page.
    Main Memory
        - Supports six memory banks using three 184-pin DDR DIMMs
    - Supports a maximum memory size up to 3GB
    - Supports 2.5V DDR200/266/333 DDR SDRAM DIMM

  • MSI K9A2 Neo-F and RAM Voltages, Timings.

Hi, I recently purchased the K9A2 Neo-F mobo and just yesterday picked up a 2x2GB kit of DDR2 (800) OCZ Platinum memory. The RAM can run at 2.1 V to achieve better timings but I'm not sure if pushing the voltage on the motherboard is possible or safe. In BIOS, all of the DRAM settings are greyed out.
The RAM is currently at 371.5 MHz with a 6-6-6-18 timing. Could be at 400 MHz with 5-4-4-15.
    Any help/advice is appreciated.

1 The processor speed in MHz is pre-set.
2 The bus to the outside must have the same speed in both ends of the line, of course.
3 2600 in this example can't gear down to and use the bus speed 400 with a "decimal" figure. It simply can't!
4 It uses the closest upward figure, to get as close to the speed as possible.
The multiplier isn't exactly involved here in this example, but for the resemblance of the figure 7. It is a bit complicated, but you want a fast processor and cheap memory. At the same time you want the processor to work smoothly with the memory. So they use a clock multiplier to get a fast processor. When it has done it's job, the data sent out uses a speed geared down to a usable speed, which is the maximum speed of the bus.
To complicate things a little more... No, let's stop here.
