MSI GT780 - Backlit keyboard in most countries not available?

I would like to know why doesn't my country (Portugal), as well as many others, allow or sell any MSi's gaming series laptop WITH the LED back-lit keyboard.
I was a click away of ordering my own MSI GT780DXR-403PT (that's its name, in my country), when I noticed something that said, roughly translated, that the so-called back-lit keyboard wasn't really back-lit. So what I did was I called them (the seller) and asked them why didn't they sell the laptop with a back-lit keyboard.
They replied that MSi didn't ship any laptop with it, and what's even more curious is that, even though there are no LED's, the button to light them on AND the software to change the colors is loaded on the machine.
So, that said, I'd really like to know if and how can I buy a GT780DXR with a BACK-LIT Portuguese keyboard?

Not sure why you're mentioning the UK since I clearly stated I'm from Portugal, but whatever. Also, thanks for the replies, but I'd really like to buy a keyboard with a >>Portuguese<< layout and with the back-lit keys.
This is so unfair, since the laptops are the same price as a back-lit one... MSi should really look into this, I mean, either lower the price since there are no lights, or get the freakin' lights on the machine.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on 25 June 2010. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Most likely, no. Usually a different Electronic Controller is used for the non-backlit and backlit keyboards.

hi i just bought a new msi gt780 i5 version how come there was no software included to alllow me to change the colors of the l.e.d lights and i did not receive the msi afterburner
and is it true the i5 version cant go over 8 gig of ram?

MSI GT780 DXR keyboard problem

hello,
i've got a problem with my keyboard its like i cant press W,E and space in the same time...so genarly in games such as world of warcraft i cant move forward and starf right and jump in the same time...while i can if im starfing left side...no matter what i do i cant press those 3 buttons at the same time in all games...altho when i connect a USB keyboard to the laptop i can do that without any problem...is there an driver update to fix this problem or any way i can get it fix please help me guys and thanks.

Keyboard with large bright characters could be cheap substitute for backlit keyboard

A non-backlit keyboard with large, high-contrast characters could be a cheap substitute for a backlit keyboard. Most Chromebooks have tiny characters with less than maximum contrast. It would cost no more to give them legible keyboards that could be used in poor light. The first image shows a Chromebook keyboard (not an Acer) compared with the same with large-letter stickers applied. After I applied the stickers, I could type 40% faster in good light and twice as fast in poor light. (Note: I have average vision.) Next is the Acer C720 Chromebook keyboard. It has better contrast and slightly larger characters than most of the new inexpensive Chromebooks, but it's still difficult to type on in poor light. A keyboard made with the design below would be clear enough to be used in a dark room by the light from the screen.

That's a REALLY good reason, bigbear. I get it, and thanks for explaining. I certainly was not trying to imply that there is some kind of 'issue' with adding a more visible keyboard. It is certainly NOT a violation of anything to plug in an external keyboard. That is probably the best solution that you have available at this time. But if you are suggesting replacing the internal keyboard on your laptop with a 3rd party keyboard, that could become a problem. First, as you described, it is not a task for the faint of heart. You'd have to find a keyboard that FITS in your laptop, and they are certainly not all the same. And as you also describe, the disassembly and reassembly process for a laptop can be quite complex. If you cause damage in the process, that would NOT be covered by your warranty. We call that 'Customer Induced Damage' and it just isn't covered. It's an 'at your own risk' situation. Adding stickers to the key caps is also not a problem for your warranty, unless of course the attempted removal of the stickers causes you to pop some of the keys off and you can't get them re-attached. That again is considered CID.
Having said all that, as I indicated earlier in this thread, the idea for bigger, better marked key labels has been submitted to our design team for consideration. MY vision certainly isn't perfect either, so I do understand where you are coming from. Thanks for raising the issue again.

Does the HP Pavilion G6-2393nr Laptop system board allow for the extra connection required for a backlit keyboard, and if so, what available backlit keyboard part number would work?

Yoga with Backlit keyboard..........in future?

Hi, I want to know if Lenovo has any plan to bring its Yoga with backlit keyboard in future. If so, then I will purchase Yoga in future.
Even every mobile set has backlit keyboard, then why does not Yoga have backlit keyboard? It's 2012 now......

This generation of Yoga 13 may not implement backlit keyboard since it need hardware and mechanical update, not easy to do so. I think Yoga2 would think about it.

I am proud owner of IBM ThinkPad R51and it's working and in perfect condition.
Now I want a computer with backlit keyboard.
Dell’ are not that reliable and they heat a lot,
HP machines are for teens, movie lovers and chatterboxes.
Apple computers are for soft hands and people who love to show off.
I need a descent thinkpad with backlit with all the goodness of old trusty thinkpad.
Can you suggest me some.

Why are certains applications not available in South African App Store?

Why are certain applications such as Google Earth, Google Mobile App, and most games not available in the South African App Store.
We speak English so localisation should not be a problem.
I'm sure there are no legal reasons why these applications are not available here, as we have desktop equivalents for most of them.

You would have to ask Apple and/or the company that makes the app and/or - most likely - the Government of your country.
I'm sure Apple and the app developer would love to sell more apps.

Backlit keyboard not recognized on PowerBook?

I have a Powerbook G4 15" 1.25ghz. It came with the backlit keyboard. The keyboard backlight hasn't worked for some time. I had just assumed that it was just turned off somehow.
I began to look into it and it seems that my computer no longer thinks it has a backlit keyboard. The buttons (f8 - f10) do not do anything and the options for it are no longer available in the keyboard settings in the control panel.
Anyone have any ideas as to what might have happened here?

THe little board that holds the sensor can come off the main board. I blew one off and there's no mark there was ever one there. That happens when you want to take a screw out to find a lost screw behind the main board, for example.
The problem is that little board is affixed with a little socket which is too tight, and its solder's strength is less than the socket's mount strength, so when you try to un-plug it, you end up blowing the whole socket off.

Backlit Keyboard Not Working Anymore

I own a Toshiba Satellite P50-A-05H with backlit keyboard. It used to work fine but not sure what happened.
Now I'm only able to enable/disable while it's booting up, when I login to my computer and do Fn+Z nothing happens
can anyone help me?

Boot the computer on set up utility play with the keyboard options , you will see the backlit options there
