  • MSI twin frozr II freeze and glitch problem.

    Hi everyone,
I have a very annoying problem with my card. Whenever I play BF3 with a total random time I get some green glitches and the display freeze (see the attached screen).
Normally I get right back on windows with this little popup "display driver stopped answer and recovery successful". But now it just freeze and I have to do a hard reboot...
    Here is my config:
    -I7 2600k
    -Asus p8p67 pro rev 3.1
    -2x4Gb Ripjaws X
    -OCZ 850w 80gold+
-MSI twin frozr II GTX 580 with latest drivers
    -Win 7 64b
I've already look around google, I'm not alone but it seems there is no real solution. It's really sad to have this kind of prob with that expensive card... without any solution.
Some help would be very nice.
    Thanks for any help.

    I've never flash my vbios.
But after downloading and trying to flash it with the link you provide nvflash says that my current version is: 70.10.20.00.01 and the one I downloaded is 70.10.17.00.01.
So am I already in the lastest ?
    Thanks
this number is not vBIOS ID, so in all cases it will remain the same.

Do you think it's defective/worth replacing? It's more of an annoyance than anything, and the drive has no other visible issues other than on initialization.
Yes, I do. Healthy drives don't timeout on simple DMA initialization requests.

  • Rescue and Recovery PROBLEMS

Hi guys. After installing rescue and recovery on my laptop am shocked to see that on my primary drive it isnt there. It is very bothering. If my OS dies I need this to work. How do I repair the boot environment on my T500 I have tried bootrec /fixmbr to no avail. It shows press f11 to boot recovery and them when I push it does nothing. Same with the blue thinmkvantage button. I am quote disappointed as this was also happening to my t61

You just need to launch the R&R application itself.
Go to Start --> Programs --> ThinkVantage --> Rescue & Recovery
If it's at least ver 4.x, you'll see a simplified main interface with 1 button to backup and 1 to restore.  There should be a small link on the bottom left to Click on to go to the Advanced menu.
When you go to the R&R advanced view and choose Exclude Files from "Advanced" on the menu bar, it should show bring up a  windows-explorer-like tree structure where you can select (put a check mark) in the boxes next to the folder and/or specific files you want to exclude from the backups.
From the same "Advanced" drop-down menu bar, you can select "Delete Backups" and then you'll see a list of your current backups.  Simply select the ones you want to delete.
The other person who posted a reply said that you can't restore if you've replaced your hard drive.  That's not exactly true.  You can save your backups to external media (CDs/DVDs or USB drive).   After you change out hard drives, you can restore from the saved backups that are on the external media.

  • Restore and Recovery problem-XP reinstall

I have a N100 laptop that I am trying to reinstall XP operating system.  I have the recovery discs. Started the process in the Rescue and Recovery menu. Part way into the process after putting in the first disc the process will go no further.  Just to review how I got thru the menu.  I chose option  Restore my entire hard drive.   then selected backup from CD/DVD.  then I get a message:   to restore from CD/DVD either insert final C disc or insert final discs of recovery discs.  nothing happens when inserting the disc.   also-when I restart the computer it always goes to the Rescue and Recovery menu.  I can't get a normal Windows startup.  Any suggestions of how to get at least to a normal Windows startup and avoid getting to the R and R menu or how to re-format the drive?

    Hi dawcary,
I dug out my old x32 that has the recovery discs.  The version of Recovery is the same as yours.
Booting from the R&R disc it eventually comes to the window with the two options that you describe, plus a third option to restore factory settings.  Choosing to restore to factory settings wipes the drive and installs the predesktop.  If you reboot at that point, it will go into the predesktop and that window will then only show the two choices that you listed above.
I don't know why yours doesn't show that third option.
At this point, it sounds like the predesktop is installed on your hard drive and nothing else.  Rebooting might be bypassing the cd drive and booting into the predesktop.  You probably already did this, but it's the only thing I can think of.  Put your R&R disc in the cd drive and start the machine.  Press F12 at startup and in the list of bootable devices that comes up, choose cd drive.  That "should" give you the third option to restore to factory.

  • Rescue and Recovery Problem

I have several backups to a Samsung 640 GB S2 Portable.

By the way, deleting the newest backup as suggested by GMAC-R60 makes no sense (why would you want to delete your NEWEST backup? That's the one you WILL NEED if something goes wrong as it has the most recent snapshot of your hard drive!)
I would suggest you search this forum for how to delete R&R backups, it may not make sense to you but the only way is to delete newest first or you will not be able to delete them. don't take my word on it run a search in the knowledge base at the top of the page.

You can only delete the most recent.  So, delete the most recent, and after that is done (which may take some time), delete what is then the most recent (but was formerly the next-to-most-recent).
(The backups are incremental, so you can't delete the oldest because it contains the original backup of everything, and then the newer ones only contain the changes since the previous one in the list.)

  • HP Envy SSD and recovery nightmare

    Hello everyone,
I do a lot of higher level IT work at my job so when my brother got the "blue screen of death" on his HP Envy I offered to help, "No problem!"
All my attempts to recovery the operating system failed and after repeated attempts, and the discovery of a bad PC3L Ram card, I decided that his native mechanical HDD would be unreliable in the future.
As much as the HDD technology has improved over the years, I am still hold the belief that laptops used (and moved) daily are susceptible to shock damage. And, for the record, this is the FIRST time in over 20 years that I have seen a ram module fail - the absolute first time. In case  you didnt know the HP Envy in this case requires LOW VOLTAGE ram (the L in PC3L).
Since my brother carries his laptop everywhere I decided to upgrade him to a 500GB Samsung SSD. He purchased his laptop from Best Buy and it did not come with a recovery DVD.  So I decided to install a generic copy of W8 from another PC I had lying around and validate with his license code - nope! If you have an OEM version of W8 on your PC you MUST order the special recovery disks from HP since the Product ID must match the license code. This is a MUST! How do  you do that? Well, the ONLY way that the recovery disks are shown as a purchase option online is if you allow the HP support website to DETECT your HP laptop and the CHECK (using thier software) what updates are needed.  Then, and only then, will the recovery kit appear in the list of purchase options below the PC on their support website.  Entering the model number did not help. And, the ONLY way I was able to allow the HP support site to auto-check his laptop was to install an evalutation version of W8 (unactivated)
You can chat with HP Support and they will send you the kit, but my chat lasted 2 hours with repeated language and cultural misunderstandings. Rashish (name changed to protect the innocent) finally caught on and sent me a recovery kit. In his defense I imagine he had dual screens with 20 chat windows open, but  who knows!?
OK, so then I ordered the recovery "kit" and was on my way - not so fast. It turns out that the recovery disks will not work with an SSD if the SSD size is smaller than the original HDD. That's right - it will NOT work.  HP support's explanation? "It gets confused" OK, well heaven forbid I confuse the poor thing. So my next option was to restore his PC using his old mechanical HDD...
The first attempt failed, like the 3 attempts with the new SSD,  but I did get further than with the SSD. It turns out that the COA is no longer on the bottom of the PC. There is simply a MS sticker and the words, Windows 8!
I used RW Everything to grab his original OEM license code and product ID, but still have had no success. This is unbelievable  - I have NEVER had these issues restoring a PC.
Last resort? Buy a retail W8 license, but that does not seem fair!
    John

My log from the failure! I have searched this P2PP BurnBoot failure also and it is all over the HP forum  - do you think they could give us a heads up about this failure? This is crazy -

  • HP Pavilion dv7-4015ew secondary disc SSD and Recovery Manager

    Dear Friends !
    HP Pavilion dv7-4015ew + AMD 4 egs Phenom II N970 Quad-core 2,2 GHz + 8GB Ram
    I bought:
     - SSD GOODRam C40 128 GB
     - Cable connector: 23,5 cm long (netto - only cable) or 28,5 cm (brutto- all lenght). = Look fine, I can put it
    1. We have to options slot = 1. HDD 2. SDD or 1. SDD 2. HDD - when put all together (1.2 or 2.1) these it not work, comp even start (led is one signal and dead)
Do I have good connetor cable? or what? or mabe I must turn on something?
    2. only 1. SDD
Start Recovery Manager from Pendrive USB and we have 4 options:
2 and 4 = laptop is coppy windows file, rebot, show bios HP, suspend !
I turn off, turn on = and I have Recovery Manager ?!?
I turn off, remove Pendrie USB, turn on = HP say " I dont have disc inside" ?!?
3 (oryginal widows and software and HP software, like brand new)  = HP say:  " uuu... You have to small disc, smaller than oryginal and I cant copy windows file"
P.S. in my oryginal  brand new HP I always do point 3 because is work fine and other points not work ( I dont know why - Hp do somethng wrong)
    What is going on?
What big SSD I must buy to do point 3, 256Gb will be enought?
    Kind regards
    Mariusz

  • HP G61 - 511WM Boot and Recovery problems

I recently tried to reset my graphics drivers, but messed up and it caused me to be unable to run Windows 7 in normal mode, only in safe mode. So I decided to do a system recovery to fix this. I got my files I wished to save off of the laptop in safe mode, then went into the F11 menu and hit system recovery or restore, im unsure what one it is. I started it and realized I had left a file, so I canceled the recovery about a second or two in.I then only got a few options upon start-up. Either press "escape" for the options or wait a second for windows to boot. Only, when it was supposed to boot I only got a black screen with a white underscore flashing in the top left corner. I dont know what to do now, as I can only go into the "escape" menu or get stuck in the black screen (only way out is holding the power button). I have tried going from the escape menu to the F11 "recovery" menu to see if I could restart or continue the recovery/restore. The only options are "System Recovery" and "Run Computer Checkup". When I select "System Recovery" it first tells me to remove all devices, then, after pressing "ok", I am told to insert my charger, which I do. Everything works fine until just before I can start the recovery, i get an error.
The error says "Runtime Error! Program: This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual was. Please contact the application's support team for more information"
I press "ok", the only option, and am forced to turn off the laptop. All solutions to this problem require booting windows and doing things on your account. The issue is that I can't boot windows normally OR in safe mode, so I can't do anything, I can't restore windows to fix the issue because I cant even get into windows.
I have called HP support, but the 100$ waranty to get support isn't an option. Is there anything I can do to either access windows and fix the "runtime" error message, so I can restore the laptop. Or can I restore the laptop any other way, so I can access windows?
    Thanks,

    Hi:
It appears that somehow the recovery manager/partition got corrupted.
You have a couple of choices as I see it...
    1. Order a set of recovery disks which will restore your PC to its out of the box software state.
Click on the link below, and click on the link labeled "order recovery media."
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=4034...
    2. If you can read all 25 characters of the W7 product key on the bottom of your notebook, make your own plain W7 installation media and use that to at least restore the OS...
If you just let windows install on the current C:\ partition (do not delete or format the partition), it will create a windows.old folder and you can get whatever files you missed from the windows.old folder.
Then just delete the windows.old folder using the disk cleanup tool and click on the clean up system files button.
Here is how make your own W7 installation media.
Download the applicable version of W7 that came with your notebook. For example, windows 7 home premium 64 bit.
Use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link  below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://download.cnet.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.html
Use the 25 character W7 Pro product key you have.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

    Hi jianguo,
    I had the same problem.
The problem is the destination folder for you backup.
You need a short name. Try a 3 or 4 letter folder on the root of a drive.
Ex : E:\BOF for backup offline, or E:\BO for backup online.

  • X58 Pro-E - Added memory and having problems.

    Good evening.
    My original setup was:
MSI X58 Pro-E, running V8.14 BIOS (think it's listed as 8.E on MSI site)
    i7 920
    6GB (3x2GB) of A-Data DDR3 1333 (Part number HY63I1B16)
    eVGA GTX  285
    Win 7 64bit Ultimate
I tried to find the exact brand/model of memory to add, but was unable.  I ended up buying this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211451
I installed the memory and BIOS saw it all.  Windows started up fine, reports 12GB, but the 2nd night after installing the memory, I got a bluescreen.  I went ahead and ran memtest86, which reported several errors.
I took quick pic of memtest86 showing several errors here:
Before I RMA the memory, I wanted to make sure it isn't a configuration issue, rather than just bad memory.
Here's a pic of the memory tab from CPU-Z:
SPD tab (slot #1 "old" memory):
SPD tab (slot #2 "new" memory):
And here's a pic from SIW's memory tab:
What do you think?  Bad memory or configuration issue?  Thanks for your time.

The mixed config is not ideal. You may want to try however to set it all manually in the BIOS and see if you are able to get it to work.
    Disable XMP in the BIOS.
Set your mem ratio so that your mem speed is at 1066. Set your timings manually to 9.9.9.25 or 8.8.8.22 and test.
