MSI GT780DX Keyboard Phantom

Hi, I recently bought a GT 780 DX laptop, the 18inch version. I am certainly not a comp wizard, but would like to ask why, 1) the laptop crackles in the left hand side, sounds like the keyboard. thought it may just need to settle, but after a few months this continues. 2) I think there may be a few problems with the keyboard. When I switch it on, it does not go directly to the windows start up, but its almost as if a phantom presses buttons on my keyboard, sending it straight to the boot menu, where I then need to click on enter to go to Windows 7 start up. Once in, there is constant flashing of icons on the desk top, as well as the bottom bar, and the small arrow used to expand the hidden icons. Clicking on any particular desktop short cut once, this icon then proceeds to flash. Going to the control panel, I have then noticed that without touching the keyboard, the different selections, get highlighted and move down constantly by themselves before I can click on my choice. Trying to use the internet is impossible, as the top address bar flashes constantly, and thats if I was lucky enough to get something typed in. Is this a keyboard problem? Where can I purchase a replacement keyboard, I live in South Africa?

1, Just as darkhawk said, My GT70 has a WD Black drive in it and it makes a click sometimes, its normal for it to do that.
2, That sounds so much like a Virus/Spyware, I would scan your system first with Microsoft Security Essentials(free) or Malware Bytes(free for personal use, you can pay for it if you wish) or ZoneAlarm(free for the most part). If nothing changes, consider reinstalling Windows, you shouldn't have to put up with any of that.
If all is well after reinstalling Windows then if you need a virus/malware program MSE is fine, its all I use FWIW. (its built in on Windows 8 too)

  • MSI GT780DX Serious keyboard issue - Help Needed

    Hello everyone,
I have an MSI GT780DX and a few months ago it started to fail the x key when I pressed it...
After sometime it started failing the W key...
Then it was the arrow down key...
So I bought another keyboard and I managed to install it in place, the led lights worked just fine but I'm with a terrible issue now.
The keys are all wrong, for example the space bar = backspace when I press it, the a = ; the  j=l and so on... all the keys are mixed up...
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this and how to fix it?
My notebook is the msi gt780dx with Win 7 (its the original Win7 that came with the notebook)... The new keyboard has the same part number but its symbol for the windows key is different (it's the Win 8 logo)
Please any help would be gladly appreciated.
    Best Regards.

Hi I tried resetting the EC and no change...
Then I try installing Win 8  but at the serial number screen the keys are already messed up...
Tried with ubuntu also and the same.
I'm assuming its not an OS related problem...
And yes, warranty was already off when I switched the keyboards.
    Any other ideas?
Does anyone also know where can I find a Win7 keyboard for this notebook?
    I'm running out of options...

  • Nvidia Performance Level 3 - MSI GT780DX

    Hiya all,
I'm running Arch on an MSI GT780DX, with an Nvidia 570M. At the moment I'm running Arch-CK 4.0.5-2-CK (but over the many many many months I've been dealing with this issue I've ran many kernels to no avail - stock kernels from the inception of v4, and all incarnations of liquorix) with the nvidia-ck 352.21-1 drivers.
For the life of me, I can't get this card to clock properly. I've enabled coolbits, added powermizer options in my xorg, all do absolutely nothing. The card stays at performance level two.
This is what my nvidia-settings looks like in the Powermizer tab.
    http://i.imgur.com/QHtgzi3.png
In Windows, MSI provided an overclocking utility which when I hit P1 above my keyboard, performance level 3 would kick in. Linux has no such tool. My guess is that the overclocking utility wrote to registers on the card. If that's the case, how on earth can I do think in Linux?

Is there nobody having the same or at least having a clue how to solve that?
Can I do something or is this just a Nvidia driver bug?

  • MSI GT780DX UK Release

    Hello everyone
I have just read on the Overclockers Web site that the MSi GT780DX is available to pre order in the UK at last.
However, horror struck when I read the UK spec. The Machine has been heavily marketed for its 'Backlit Steel Series Gaming Keyboard' but the UK release won't be backlit
Why ever not MSI ?.....it's a gaming machine so surely a backlit keyboard is a must have. Very disappointing. Now I will have to take another look at Alienware.

I was going to buy from that site as well. At least I know someone else has already bought from there.
What did you do about the plug? and how much did you pay in total? (just so I know if its worth buying from US)
I paid £1300 or thereabouts for the laptop including delivery and then when UPS arrived I paid the custom tax to the courier in cash whom gave me a cash as this is the way UPS do it all in it took 4 days to get to me from the USA
Ref the power cable, I originally purchased a plug adaptor but when it arrived i noted that the connection in the power pack was the same as a normal PC scree / desktop PSU one so I jut plugged that in and all has been good.
Didn't realise the UK one came with a slightly better processor so what's the difference 200mhz?? not sure it will be noticeable really.

  • MSI GT780DX P1 "TURBO MODE" automatically off in few seconds

Hello ! In my MSI GT780DX  (I5, gtx570m  1.5GB, Windows 7 x64 pro, charger ON)  P1 "TURBO MODE" automatically off in few seconds (aimation from s-bar)
Everything work fine, until install the new driver for GPU from nvidia, v320, and give me problem whit P1 mode.
I'm uninstall the driver, and instal old, no fix, I'm uninstall all driver MSI (nvidia overclok tool, s-bar, afterburner, nvidia drivers) ,and install it again, no fix problem, still P1 "TURBO MODE" automatically off in few seconds ;/
    curiosity:
For more GPU clok (700MHZ)and memory (1700), I run "nvidia inspector",only open "show overcloking",and "Driver profile" , nothing change ! Then run afterburner , and set gpu clok to 700Mhz, memory clok 1700, aply, and in game it's run gpu to 700Mhz, no pressing P1 button !!
But I want to press only P1 button for more gpu clok...
    sorry for bad english.

For anyone that needs help setting the overclock tool to run at startup, just set a task to run the tool with admin priveleges at user login with the task scheduler.
Can confirm this works for me, I can now use my turbo button and change brightness without SCM crashing on the latest Nvidia drivers (331.65).

  • Overheating or Memory? MSI GT780DX

    Hello everyone!
    I have MSI GT780DX Laptop (GTX570M 1.5GB, 16gb RAM)
I'm playing Battlefield 3 on lowest settings and I have 80-100 fps and when I'm playing while recording with Fraps on 60 fps everything works perfect for about 30-40 min and than fps falls to 5-10. If I switch off fraps it goes back to 80-100. I've tried to monitor temperature and it doesn't go above 75-80 (which I think is normal?). I've tried ccleaner, disk defragmentation and disk check but still no changes...Is there anything that can be done in this situation? Maybe it's memory problems or smth? I'm really looking forward to your help guys!
    Thank you.

    A few questions...
What resolution are you playing at?
What hard drive are you recording onto?
    What is your memory usage?
Remember, FRAPS needs to record the data somewhere, I'd bet it's recording it to RAM and then storing it on the HDD as fast as it can, but the HDD is slower than your recording. You're probably filling your RAM and after 30 to 40 minutes it's completely full.....That's my guess anyway.

sorry if my english is not good use

The MSI item you bought came as it was sold. If you didn't like the original french keyboard layout and now you have a problem with the seller of an aftermarket keyboard or separately sold replacement part contact that seller or the person who installed it. There is nothing this forum or MSI can do about it. It is no problem with an MSI retail item.
For complaints or warranty claims contact MSI as this is a Users-to-Users Forum: >>How to contact MSI.<<
Still this is no MSI issue so most likely rma would be refused but you'll see about that.

  • Is there any MSI GE70 Keyboard Full Colorful Backlit?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this but I have a regular MSI GE70, 17 in, i7, windows 7, with a NVIDIA Geforce and I was wondering if anyone know if steelseries or MSI is selling any MSI GE70 Keyboard Full Colorful Backlit? Just the keyboard itself, I really want a light up keyboard without buying a new laptop. I want to replace my non-backlit keyboard with a full colorful backlit keyboard.

    Quote from: bob515 on 29-October-14, 09:40:24
I think I have the older version. I'm not sure though, On my laptop, it just says GE70, I believe I got it around sept 2012? I forgot. So there is no possible way that I can install a light up keyboard then? :(. I don't mind if it's single color anymore.
    I will be perfectly honest.
I'm not certain. I cannot remember if the GE70's at that point in time COULD come with a backlit keyboard or not.
I WANT to say that they didn't. But I cannot say that with 100% certainty.
If you look at the barcode on the bottom of your laptop or on the box, it should say something along the lines of GE70 XXX-XXXUS for the model number I believe. If you could list that, it would help narrow it down a little bit.

I also bought 1 from ebay last month and when I put it on my gt60, it instantly booted. No problem during installation. i just removed the gpu bracket at the back and all is well.. The card is a beast and you must tame it's heat though.. anyways I hope you solved your problem too.

  • MSI - GT780DXR - Keyboard

    Hi all,
The UK version of GT780DX(GT780DXR)MSI notebook does not have a backlit keyboard. That is at least what the Overclockers forum says, some stipulate it's because they wanted to rush it into UK before christmas and did not put the lights in, or whatever. OK, OK it's not a great bear necessity and some people think it's a show off thing. I am one who would find it practical since sometimes I may use it in total darkness (not what you think,  gaming of course !).
I excited about buying this notebook  (I heard it is actually just as good as the  mx alienwhore) but one thing that annoys me is that I cannot find any info. on when the backlit keyboard notebook will be available in the UK, and what retailer ?
    Dracu

The lit keyboard is not a show off thing IMHO, I also thought that at first, but now I find it silly that there are laptops which do not have backlit keyboards... Wait for the backlit keyboard if you can, it's totally worth it. Once you go backlit you'll never go back to the unlit ones.

  • [SOLVED] MSI GT70 keyboard buttons not working

Hi! I am a normal user of computers that like games, so I bought this awesome notebook MSI GT70 i7 16gb ram GTX 675MX 128ssd+750hdd, with a keyboard by steelseries.
Everything was ok, using the notebook as came when I bought, with OS windows 8, with no format nor modifications by me, using it since January 2013.
The problem is that about 1 or 2 weeks some shortcuts of keyboard arent working anymore:
    - Wifi button isn't working and isn't becoming orange when pressed, and Fn+F8 isn't working either;
    - Screen shutdown button is becoming orange when pressed but not working;
    - Cd-dvd eject button is becoming orange when pressed but not working;
    - I tried also Fn+F9 and Fn+F12 shortcuts, and I think they arent working either.
At the same time, the Cooler button and the Backlight's Keyboard button are working correctly. Turbo button maybe is working too but I don't know if something become overclock when I activate it.
I would really appreciate some help, since I love my notebook very much, and I hope it's not a hard problem to solve.
    Thanks!

Try resetting EC: >>How to reset the EC (Embedded Controller)<<
If that doesN't help uinstall SCM and after reboot install latest version: http://www.msi.com/service/download/utility-19670.html
Also try updating .Net Framework 4.5: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36377
    Hi,
    I followed your advice:
    1. uninstalled SCM, restarted
    2. installed SCM, restarted
    3. tried to update .net framework, had it already
    4. resat the EC
But unfortunately it did not change my GE60 2OC's behaviour: when i press the back-light button it opens my browser with dragoonarmy/msi.com>/ BUT NO LIGHT.
Do anybody have a suggestion to solve this??
    Thanks Kurt

  • [TV@Master] MSI Radio, keyboard shortcuts

I'm using MSI Radio app and it's ok for me, just one thing I can't find - keyboard shortcuts to change memorized channels. I really need it so if anyone knows... please. Thanks in advance!

I found it! It's [CONTROL]+[ALT]+F and while holding these buttons you have to select which memory number you want with or direction key. Great, while I'm doing all these I still have 6 fingers free to do whatever I want
