MSI GTX 570 OC - Received some dodgy card with wrong cooler/pcb?

So received my GTX 570 OC today but when i opened the box was suprised to see that box didnt really contain what i ordered for. Very first i thought i just got GTX480 by mistake instead of 570, but then started to look more closely and tthe sticker on the card says 570. Then looked back of the card and cooler fitting looks pretty dodby, empty screw holes + some weird foam part on the back of the pcb. Pcb also seems to be MSI:s own design which is quite big problem for me as planned to build custom watercool loop for summer so when this is non ref desing any of the 570 waterblock most likely wont fit to it :(
This is the card i ordered : http://eu.msi.com/product/vga/N570GTX-M2D12D5-OC.html
And this is what i received :

I did instal the card to comp to see i it even have the right specks and seems so. But the cooler is really quite loud even at idle and at load it sounds like vacuumcleaner while card still running pretty hot.

You did read the following that is under the images correct?
The product picture may differ from the actual product. Only for your reference.
The specifications may differ from areas. Please check with your local dealers.
It seems the heatpipes are a better cooler.  Can you post an image of the front of the card?

nope its not, its far worse. its older nvidia's thermal design used on 480 series..
The newest nvidia's thermal design also include the innovative Vapour Chamber:
[the older nvidia thermal design from prevision generation don't have such]
- Innovative thermal design: Vapour Chamber (Quieter than previous generation)
The newest Nvidia's design is much more effective than the older one

agreed - re the text in blue
but why ?  I thought the GTX480 cooler was less efficient than the new one on the 570/580 ?  noisier and a lot hotter
so why use it on the new 570 ?  to reduce cost ?
still rather annoyed I didn't spot it
unless you buy what you know to be a specialist cooled version, like the Twin-Frozr, Phantom, Twin fan versions etc etc - you'd be pretty right in expecting a stock reference cooler
not a last gen cooler  :(

We don't known, and we can guess only. But i very doubt that's cost related.
There are only very few MSI's units of 570 that are using this older cooler..
99.99% of MSI's 570, [or 580] [which are using Nvidia's coolers] are using the newest Nvidia's thermal design.
Looks like the some of the very 1st revisions of the 570 was shipped with this old cooler.
[Guesses: due an mistake or maybe newest design was N/A yet or was out of stock at this time]

  • MSI GTX 570 TF-2 question

    Hello again
Few days ago I bought an MSI GTX 570 Twin Frozr II card.I bought it because it has exxelent coolers and everything and is great for overclock.
As I am not a pro overclocker and I dont have that much experience in that area I need your help.
I raned 3dMark Vantage with my core beeing set to 930 MHz and my voltage set to 1.1 in MSI afterburner and got some great scores.I would very much like to keep those settings while gaming but I am not sure if that 1.1 core voltage can hurt my card in long period.I also need to mention that I game couple of hours daily and I inteend to keep default settings in afterburner when not.
So my question would be is it safe to keep that core voltage up to 1.1 in afterburner when gaming???
    Thanks

would intentionally provide a tool that would allow you to set dangerously high voltage that could damage it?
The limits of voltage adjustments allowed will be restricted to the upper end of what the GPU was designed for. As long as your temps stay within reasonable limits, I don't believe you have anything to worry about. You may find that your fans will spool up more to keep the temps down. The cards factory clocks are normally a best compromise between voltage, temps and fan speeds (i.e. noise).

  • MSI GTX 570 TF III Power ed o/c Fuzzy Horizontal and vertical lines.

    Hello.
Recently built, tested and stable PC with GPU issue. (System specs in Signature)
I Have installed a MSI GTX 570 Power Edition O/C in my rig.  I have a clean install of Win 7 and carried out a clean install of the latest (non beta) Nvidea drivers DL'd from Nvidea site.
    Here is my problem:
When running graphically demanding software I get fuzzy lines either horizontally or vertically across the screen (but not both at once)
They only appear when GPU is underload.
When running Heaven Benchmark the lines are soft and horizntal consistantly in the middle of the screen.
When running the in the Kombuster Benchmark I get harder lines when the GPU load increases and they are vertical
Interestingly whilst playing BF3 on Ultra no lines are present (but GPU load is not as heavy)
I have not touched after Burner settings.
Here is what I have tried already.
Removed card and clean contacts (card connection to PCI slot)
Cleaned (although brand new) mobo PCI-E slot
Checked it is seated correctly upon reinstall
Cleaned Power connectors and Card power connection
Cleaned PSU modular power connection on PSU
Changed PCI-E power cables connection on PSU (cable management model)
Changed PCI-E power socket on PSU.
I have looked into what Bios I have but have not found any information in regards to any other Bios releases by MSI.
    My GPU BIOS is:70.20.27.00.01
Thanks for reading and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks

    No problems at all.
However when running some games,.and in particular K kombuster default "KMARK" I get those lines.
In Heaven benchmark I h´get them horizontally but only one or 2 in the middle of the screen and very soft.
I am sending the card back.
No Overclock performed by me and no adjustment of any afterburner settings.
It should work out of the box.
Thanks for your help, and I will be sure to report back once my my new card is installed.

  • Msi gtx 570 with gtx 470 pcb/cooler?

Hello everyone, so few days ago I've ordered Msi Gtx 570 from us.NCIX.com which as i thought was fully reference nvidia model with vapor chamber cooler. Today i got the package from them with the card which i didnt open yet cause card's serial number starts with 602-V222. I have found some disturbing reports that V222 means that this card comes with gtx 470 pcb/cooler which means worse/louder cooling. There were also reports of gtx 570's with gtx 480pcb/cooling.
here is the link to what i bought: http://us.ncix.com/products/index.php?usaffiliateid=1000031501&sku=57383&promoid=1339
    My questions are:
Are all V222's come with gtx 470 pcb?
Can i find out which pcb version i got before i open the box?
How am i suppose to know what i am buying if p/n and pictures match nvidia reference model?
at this point i am feeling very frustrated cause if i open the box and the card has gtx 470 pcb, i will have to send it back, pay shipping/restocking and stay without the videocard for over a week again, and if that's the case i dont think i'd buy/recommend anything from MSI ever again.

  • MSI gtx 570 twin frozr III - Dual Screen Windowed mode issues

Ok, so... I was running a solo monitor 1440x900 resolution, i recently purchased a brand new asus 24 inch 1900x1080 monitor. Basically what is happening is when i play WoW or Battlefield 3 in windowed mode on the 1080p monitor the colors are not perfect. When i go full-screen on the new monitor no issues, but that is not what i want to have to live with. When i say the colors are not perfect what i mean is, for example when i look @ the sky instead of being a smooth transition or blend from one shade of the sky to the next it is bars or stripes of each shade as if i am looking at the sky in 8 bit color instead of 32 bit color. Another thing to note is that when i login to windows 7 the blue screen where i input the password has the same effect. The 1440x900 monitor is running everything just fine. the only issue is with the 1080p monitor.
I am using DVI cabling for both, and have swapped them around to see if that was the issue, and sadly it is not. I am running the updated gpu driver, which i uninstalled and re-downloaded and installed again tonight.
When i use the HDMI cable,  that fixes the issue but i need the HDMI for my 42 inch tv.
Also in windows, just to cover my bases with this post, i have the native resolutions properly configured, as well as in the game for the given monitor it is being played on.
Anyone know of a fix for this?
    i7 2600k
    asus PBZ68-v Pro/Gen3
    Msi gtx 570
    Samsung syncmaster 953bw (1440x900)
    Asus VS248 (1900x1080)
I am more than happy to re-explain anything that may not be as descriptive or clear to you just let me know!
    EDIT!
When i run the 24 inch 1080p new monitor as my only monitor on the system, everything runs perfectly...
    Edit #2
Ok so i have pin pointed a possible cause
This msi gtx 570 struggles with operating multiple displays with different resolutions, while dual screening with my 1080p television and the 1080p display, everything runs as expected. Having to also render a 1440x900 display is probably the reason i am having the graphic issues. Is there any type of utility, setting, or other fix to this type issue? also this gpu is certainly less than 2 weeks since i purchased i could get a different card to remedy this... any suggestion? if you suggest a different card can you say so with certainty that it will work properly under the condition in which 2 resolutions will be required?

Ok, the problem is fixed and Svet i skipped a step or two. I installed the new driver with the clean install to save time for an initial attempt. What is interesting is that with the Geforce driver, only one 1920x1080 resolution was available
The msi driver gave me 2 options, 1920x1080 and 1920x1080 (native). The latter resolution fixed the issue for whatever reason.
The solution to this problem is so easy, when i purchased battlefield 3 it prompted me to download the geforce.com driver and i did not think anything of it at the time, lesson learned.

  • MSI GTX 570 power

I'm planning to get an MSI GTX 570. My concern is my PSU: Enermax ELT500AWT (SLI certified but for older graphic cards like 8800GTS and such) and i have it since 2007 ,no problems what so ever.
Here are the specs of the psu:
    System specs:
    I5 2500k stock
    2x4GB Corsair Vengeance LP 1.5v
    MSI P67A GD65
    GTX 260 Core 216
    2xSata HDDs
    1xSSD
    DVD RW
4 x case fans (they actually mater in power consumption)
    Creative X-FI Titanium PCI-e
From what i researched, my current GTX 260 216 OC from BFG ,eats morea amps (40A) than a GTX 570 (35A).
So should i do it? Thanks in advance.

Those ratings are recommendations for the whole system in which the cards are used in.
The MSI N570GTX Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC (V257-014R) for example requires up to 225W (225W/12V=18.75A).
An N260GTX will need 182W tops.
    So, you should be fine.

  • MSI GTX 570 (N570GTX-M2D12D5) - Display driver stopped responding

    Problem:
Upon watching videos and playing games, artifacts begin to show and green blotches sometimes appear.  After a couple seconds the video slows down and crawls to a stop.  After another couple seconds the screen goes blank, then after 2-3 seconds the video comes back and I get a balloon notification, "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"
    Attempted Fixes:
-Updated Gigabyte Motherboard BIOS to the latest revision (F7, need to try F8a beta)
-Updated Video Card BIOS to latest revision (KJ1)
-Installed MSI's latest video card driver (285.62)
-Installed NVIDIA's latest video card driver (285.62 WHQL)
-Installed NVIDIA's latest beta video card driver (295.51 beta)
-Removed all but essential hardware (booted using only CPU/Memory/Mainboard/SSD+HDD/Video Card)
-Tested other graphics cards (9800GX2 worked fine, very similar power requirements as GTX 570)
    -Verified PSU's requirements Seasonic X650 650-Watt PSU (High-efficiency, 54A on +12V)
--Minimum 550W or greater system power supply (with a minimum 12V current rating of 38A)
    -No overclocking
    -Increased northbridge voltage
    -Increased GPU voltage
-RMA'd my first GPU, got my 2nd GPU and it too has the same problem.
-Increased timeout per Microsoft's KB article:

    -Clean install of Windows 7 64-bit SP1
I think it's incompatible with Gigabyte motherboards... I cannot find any other logical connection, even after updating both BIOS (Video & Mainboard)
Should I RMA?  Can MSI refund me?  I'm sick of this problem and I'm not convinced an RMA will fix it.

I located the order using the email address you attached to your forum profile and saw that the order was placed on 6/25.  Unfortunately, this promotion was a Deal of the Day for 6/24, so any orders would need to be placed by midnight CST.  Any orders placed on 6/25 would not qualify for the promotion.

  • Should I get an MSI GTX 560 Ti 448 Twin Frozr III?

I'm thinking of upgrading my graphics card and obviously I'm looking to get one that'll go well together with Premiere (CS 5.5). For now, I've set my sights on the MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti 448 Cores Twin Frozr III 1280 MB. I'm especially attracted to this card, as from my research it should be particularly quiet in desktop use, which is essential to me. Would this be a good choice, or should I be looking at GTX 570 for instance, or a card with more memory?

    Arve,
I appreciate the effective and quiet cooling provided by MSI's non-reference designs. I don't have the exact card you mention, but have a system with a MSI GTX 460 Hawk (twin fans, similar to the Frozr design) and it performs WAY quieter than the GTX 260 reference card I had prior to that. I would not be worried at all regarding noise and cooling with 120mm case fans. When comparing how much air 120mm fans can move to clear video card (and CPU) heat from your case vs. the reference GTX cards pushing air through a VERY tiny space, you can expect quieter and more effective cooling with the Frozer. The only possible caveat that I can think of with the Frozr is that you need at lease 1/2" of space in front of both fans so that air can easily enter the fans. If you have a motherboard / PCIe situation where you need to put a card immediately next to the Frozr, then you should go with a reference design; I suspect that gamers wanting 2, 3, or even 4 video cards running in SLI has a lot to do with why the various "big fan" designs are not more common in the market.
Additional to the cooling subject being discussed so far, there is another Newegg listed GTX 560Ti listed with less cores but 2GB of video RAM. Depending on if you ever edit anything with large frame needs such as large photos in video slide shows or RED 4k, etc., possibly the larger video buffer would be more advantageous to you system than the one you mention above that has a slightly higher core count.

  • MSI GTX 460 1 Gb OC & NiBiTor, fan speed mod

A dew days ago, i purchased an MSI GTX 460 1 GB OC graphics card.
    This one:
    http://hr.msi.com/product/vga/N460GTX-M2D1GD5-OC.html
Problem is, fan is too loud at idle. I've tried using MSI Afterburner but it won't let me
go lower than 40%, which is too much. As Svet is no longer able to mod BIOS (which i perfectly
understand when we look at number of requests he received daily  ) i tried to do it myself.
I saved BIOS with GPU-Z and opened it with NiBiTor. I found an option to change minimum fan speed
from 40 to 30. But, problem is that NiBitoR puts red dot at the "integrity" check, immediately when
I open it. Does this means that NibiTor was unable to properly read BIOS information? Does this mean that I can't safely save a BIOS and will damage my card if I try to flash a card with modded BIOS?
NibiTor is version 6.02. My card is MSI N460GTX M2DIGD5
    S/N 602-V232-150B1101136247

My e-mail?  There is nothing there.
I think that GPU-Z has some problems saving my BIOS. When i use nvflash
saving option (from DOS), Nibitor shines a green dot whan i opened BIOS with it!
I've sent an e-mail with BIOS to Svet, but with the version extracted with GPU-Z. I think
    that BIOS was corrupt...
