MSI GTX 660 Black screen on HDMI input

Hi all,
First of all, spec list:
AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE (stock clocks and voltage)
MSI 990FXA-GD80
MSI GTX 660 (stock clocks and voltage)
2x4GB Kingston HyperX Predator DDR3 RAM (stock @ 1333MHz)
Corsair GS600 (49A 1 12V rail)
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
2x Cooler Master Excalibur
LG 50PM670T (50inch plasma 600Hz sub-field)
Right, so here goes, my issue. Ever since setting up this rig, I've noticed that if I connect it to my TV through the HDMI port on the GPU directly to a HDMI port on the TV, it works fine until I reboot. After I reboot, nothing can be displayed and it's only when I use a VGA cable directly to my TV that anything pops up on the screen. I would then have to wait a fair while (up to like an hour) for it to recognise the HDMI input again. As I'd just set this up and hadn't installed any drivers, I put it down to a driver issue.
Now I've installed the Nvidia driver included in the CD, it still does the same thing. Well, sort of. When I boot it up, nothing at all shows up on my TV. Infact, the only thing that shows up is "no signal". However when it loads into windows, if I unplug the HDMI cable and plug it back in again several times I get the noise when you plug a USB device into Windows (duhh-dum) and then it displays correctly. Again though, when using VGA (DVI-> VGA on the graphics card end) it displays fine right from the get-go.
Is there something else I need to do? something in the BIOS? something in the Nvidia Control Panel? I did have the AMD Catalyst software installed as I have an AMD CPU, so I uninstalled that thinking they might be conflicting, but it didn't make a difference. Unfortunately, I don't have a DVI to HDMI adapter so I can't see if it's a display conflict with the TV or the HDMI port on the GPU.
Many thanks to those who take the take to read and respond and again, I haven't modified any settings at all, just kept everything at stock values.

check setting in nvidia control panel,
there is options for multi display,
which to be 1st, how to operate, clone, extend.
try play with them and see how its goes

when i turn on this option i got error message this card doesnt supoport uefi gop and thus cannot turn off csm (i dont have option to turn csm mode off on mb, its pure efi.
Is it problem with board or card? or maybe it can be fixed with some modded rom?
    Really thanks for feedback

just tried, i just got black screen and hangup, had to reset bios and swap graphic cards just to get to bios to turn super boot off.
no more your card dont support, now there is only black screen of death. i even tried to attach it to yamaha 3020 to chech if there is any signal and there was none. Without uefi gop everything works fine.

  • MSI GTX 660 Ti Games and O.S freeze

Hello, just one week ago I finally finish my new PC, here you can find what I have right now
    Intel Core i7 3770 3.40Ghz
    Asus P8Z77-V LE PLUS
    Corsair 2x8Gb DD3
    Nvidia MSI GTX 660 Ti
    Intel SSD 180 gb
    2 Western Digital HD (500gb and 1tb)
    Scythe Chouriki II 750w
Now I started to play just one game, talking about Guild Wars 2.
Really nice improvment from previous pc and it is smooth and fine but I just notice a strange noise coming from the pc when I am playing the game. (notice if during the game i open the map so actually there is no more any kind of graphic the noise goes away)
I tought it was the fan running faster so I did not care a lot but today the game freezed first, and when I restarted it it freezed again but not only the game, the whole pc.
I opened the case and i run game again. That noise is not a fan, it seems to come from the video card itself.
Please notice that I used the video card on my previous PC for a couple of week and I didn t have any kind of problem (power supply was the same)
I am going to try with another game, but do you have any idea what is happening?
I did not have freeze since very long time and now I am a bit dissapointed.
Can it be the powersupply not enough?
I hear the MSI GTX 660 Ti have an issue with over voltage that can cause problems.
    Thank for you kind answers
    Best Regards
    Leo

    Hi, I hope this helps:
I have the exact same problem with my MSI N660Ti PE 2GD5/OC, which I acquired in January 2013. It keeps crashing in high-performance games, and I too thought it was a bad driver. Turns out though, that the voltage spike you see there (mine had it too), is what happens when the GPU tries to speed the fans up automatically to cool the card down. I noticed that whenever my card reached between 60degC and 65degC, the card would crash, as the GPU responded to the heat by trying to speed the fans up. Speeding them up caused a sudden voltage spike, which caused my drivers to crash and, therefore, the game as well. I tried updating my card's BIOS, but apparently nvFlash doesn't work on a 64-bit OS
My Solution: Save a configuration with a predefined fan speed (I made mine 60%), which I activate every time I launch a game. The sound is horrendous, but my games no longer crash as the GPU can't autmatically change the fan speed anymore. I've even tried with 55% and that worked fine. The games in question, that were crashing then no longer crashed after I set the fan speed to manual, were Crysis3 (Ultra Settings), Battlefield3 (Ultra Settings), COD Black Ops 2, and a few others. I had this problem until March2013 when I decided to predefine fan speed settings.
Again, I hope this helps. It's by no means the greatest fix, but it worked for me. I hope it does for you too.

  • BlackScreen and System Reboot with MSI GTX 660 OC TF

Please Svet, or another adm/technnical supporter, I need help!
    I have a MSI GTX 660 2gb/ddr5 TF OC s/n 602-V287-04SB1208202249.
I'm having some issues in some games (like Batman Arkham City, Dead Island, Mirror's Edge, Tomb Raider 2013): A few moments after I start to play I just receive a blackscreen, sound bug (like a CD scratched) and the pc reboots.
I already uninstalled the driver with driver sweeper (not in safe mode), reinstalled, installed a old driver and the issue continues. I updated the bios to the NV287MH211 bios. Not helped. I formatted my system too.
I bought another psu, the problem persists.
    My system is:
    Intel Core i5 3570k 3.4~3.8ghz
    Board Gigavyte GA-Z77X-D3H v1.0 (F16 bios)
    8gb ram ddr3 kingstom 1333mhz
    Psu OCZ ZT550w
    Windows 7 64bit
I have a Zotac GTX 460, I tested him and have no problem with the  games.
I have no idea what to do anymore.
I will attach  a screenshot from bluescreen viewer, the error that appears when I can finish the game without system reboot (ctrl+alt+del) and a log from gpu-z with the moment of the crash.
Thank you for the help, and sorry for my english.
    Blue Screen viewer:
    Batman crash error:
    Gpu-z log:
    http://www.mediafire.com/view/?ywskyvjfwyj3ub3
    Edit:
I tested Borderlands 2 and after few minutes playing the blackscreen happened, then I just hit ctrl+alt+del, the screen goes white and I listen the sound of disconnected hardware. NVidia Kernel mode sttoped work. I also installed NVidia 320.00 beta driver without solution to the problem.
Apparently, this issue only happens when I play some games that need more gpu use. I'm not sure about this.

  • MSi GTX 660 2GD5/OC randomly stops outputting video.

While playing Star Trek Online and Champions Online, this graphics card will randomly stop outputting video with no warning. It has also crashed Windows completely on three of these occasions. The card never recovers and the only way to fix it is a hard reset. This problem has persisted over five different iterations of nVidia's drivers, both beta and WHQL.
I've already sent this card in for service to correct this problem and, upon receiving it from MSi's service center yesterday, encountered the same problem again in both games. Both times I installed it into my P67A-GD65 motherboard, I made sure the video drivers from my previous dedicated GPU and integrated HD 4000 were completely uninstalled via Control Panel and Guru3D's Driver Sweeper program.
Is there anyone here who's had similar experiences and can offer some troubleshooting advice? I've already edited my Windows 7 registry to manually adjust the frame time out and recovery period, to no effect.

List full system specifications, see >>Posting Guide<<
2 cards to crash by the same way, probably is not video card problem but something else in your PC
Power Supply: Kingwin Maximum Power ABD-850MM 850W
    Motherboard: MSi P67A-GD65 LGA1155
    Processor: Intel Core i7-3770K @ 3.5 GHz
    RAM: Corsair 4 GB DDR3 @ 1600 MHz
I highly doubt it was my system, because I had a PowerColor AMD Radeon HD 7850 in the same PCI-e slot that worked flawlessly at maximum clock. The MSi GTX 660 crashed in both PCI-e slots at factory stock speeds.

  • MSI GTX 660 TF 2GD5/OC (SLI) Running at 50% Core clock

    Hello there,
In my home setup, I have two MSI GTX 660 TF 2GD5/OC cards installed in my Mainboard (ASRock 970 Extreme4) in an SLI configuration (together with a bridge, of course). I would say that everything is running fine.
Though, with 3D mark, my core clock seems to be clocking in at 549 Mhz
    http://www.3dmark.com/fs/738108
While in the official specifications, 1098 seems the normal rate (hm, that is exactly 50% slower).
    http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N660-TF-2GD5-OC.html#/?div=Specification
I am using the latest (BETA) Nvidia Driver 326.41 driver.
I have the feeling something is off, and my 3Dmark is actually a lot lower then it should be, since installing the 2nd card, my performance with Rise of the Triad 2013 and Super Street Fighter AE seems to have dropped (I can barely play in 3D anymore, while I had no problem doing so with a single card, and according to the Nvidia site, SSFIVAE supports 3D and SLI).
Can you guys give me some pointers what might be the problem? Thanks in advance!

I recently bought an Asus P8B75-M LE and an MSI GTX 660 Ti OC V1, and i'm experiencing some problems. I get a picture, but i can't get past the bios. It says i need to enable CSM due to "compatibility issues" (or something), but i already did. I have no idea what's going on, and nothing seems to work. Is it the drivers? Or do i need a new mobo? (I think it's an UEFI bios) Do i need to send a GOP / UEFI Vbios request? I should also note that i am very new to these kind of things.
    Specs:
    CPU - Intel i5 3570k (stock fan).
GPU - MSI GTX 660 Ti OC V1.

Clear the CMOS of your board and retry: >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
If no help we can see for a GOP vbios if you follow the guide (>>GOP / UEFI Vbios requests - Read Here First<<)
You should also update your mainboard bios to the latest version as it is dated 2013/03/20
Alright, i'll try that. Thanks.  But how do i send a GOP / UEFI Vbios request if i'm not able to get past the bios?

No, that is not possible. These are totally different cards. They have a different custom design with a cooler totally different and the GAming offering profiles that can't be used with an ordinary N660 TF 2GD5/OC

It should not be write protected but if so disable write protection with the following:
    - Put nvflash and the vbios file on it and boot from the stick.
    - Then type nvflash --protectoff
    - Then type nvflash -4 -5 -6 gop.rom (if renamed vbios that way) and hit enter.
    - Confirm the questions and let the tool flash.
I did that to, and after that I did --protect on, but looks like its corrupt now, this is wat I get.
    also in dos.

  • MSI N750Ti TF 2GD5/OC, random black screen from hdmi output

    Hi,
Bought a MSI N750Ti TF 2GD5/OC and connected it to two monitors. My main monitor is connected to the hdmi port, and the other to the DVI one. I get random black screens on my main monitor. They last about 3-4 seconds, and my secondary screen just runs on happily. Unfortunately the latter screen doesn't support hdmi, otherwise I'd simply switch the outputs to see if it's the monitor or the card. However, I do suspect the card because I can 'break' or trigger the black screen by manipulating the hdmi cable at the card's output.
Anyway, is this a known issue or should I experiment a bit more? If it is know, what's a good solution?
I did update my drivers, btw.
    Cheers!

I've tried booting with only the TV plugged in (no desktop monitor on DVI), that also made no difference (with the HDMI).
