MSI GTX 760 HAWK low overclocking/core voltage lock

Hello, I bought the gtx 760 hawk and i tried to overclock it, but it's overclocking potential is very low. Furthermore if I change core voltage +12mV in afterburner nothing changes. Voltage is still stuck at 1.200. There's absolutely no difference. I use ver. 3.0.0 beta 14 of afterburner. Please help.

GTX 760 NVidia specs
Base Clock 980
Boost Clock 1033
MSI N760 Hawk
Base Clock 1111
Boost Clock 1176
That is what the card is guaranteed to prvide you with.
Additionally, MSI provides voltage and clock adjustments to allow users to potentially OC it even more (no guarantee). Each individual sample will yield different results. We have users that had to RMA cards because they were unstable even at the guaranteed OC'ed speeds.

I see in some reviews that they reach the power limit at the level of 185%
Review sites receive cherry picked samples that have been pre-tested and the results are indicative of what the best of the range may do. All the manufacturers try and have their best samples reviewed for obvious reasons.
The MSI Afterburner releases will be updated when Unwinder and the rest of the development team get around to it. Read the dedicated threads in guru3d

Is there a tutorial on how to flash the new BIOS?
Decompress the provided .rar archive with Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Then flash the desired file included with Nvflash for dos: http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/nvflash_download.html
To do so rename the included file to .rom and create a dos bootstick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0)
Put nvflash and the vbios file on it and boot from the stick. Then type nvflash -4 -5 -6 gop.rom (if renamed vbios that way) and hit enter. Confirm the questions and let the tool flash.

Also, what is the difference between normal and ln2, or witch one is safe to use?
normal is the pre-overclocked default vbios. LN2 (which can be chosen via the selector switch on top of your card) is not factory overclocked but allows more extreme manual oc without the limits of normal vbios (more voltage and power draw allowed). This is especially needed for extreme oc like if using Liquid nitrogen (LN2) cooling for oc records.

  • MSI GTX 760 Hawk limit Temp

It seems that I do not have the possibility in the software Afterburner 331.65 of decreasing the temperature limit of the graphic card.
The core Voltage is not accessible and the power limit does not have a button in order to be able to modify the maximum temperature of the graphic card (i think 79°c).
With Far Cry 3 as an Ultra mode the average temperature is of 74°c with a point of 79/80°c.
I am afraid a little of this high value.
You will excuse me for my bad English.
    Yours sincerely

  • MSI GTX 760 HAWK - 6 to 8 pin usage

    Hello,
I have a question, I haven`t found answer in no review of this GPU. GPU needs 2x8pin PSU input, however there are 6 to 8 pin reductions in package. I would like to ask, whether it is safe to use this reduction. I have PSU Enermax NAXN 80+ 500W (Model ENP500AWT) which has 1x6+2pin and 1x6pin connector - so I would use following: 1x8pin(6+2) and 1x6pin(reduced to 8pin).
    Thank you for answer,
    Peter

hi, i have my hawk connected to one 6pin+2pin connector and one 6pin connector with reduction to 8pin. It works perfectly well.
If I may ask you - what PSU are you using? I have only 500W enermax - I think it should be suciffient, bud who knows
I have recived an answer from MSI tech support which confused me a little bit:

problem is, that nVidia gtx7xx-series GPUs are not included in mentioned calculator :-/ and information that N760 HAWK itself needs 400W  sounds for me a little bit overestimated...

  • Msi gtx 760 hawk ?

    hi guys
i v looked in sevral sites and i didn't found it , so when would it be available ??

Ask MSI about product releases: >>How to contact MSI.<<
As it is already listed on Global site it should be out by now but it will most likely take time until it is available (also may depend on the local market).

  • Bios LN2 gtx 760 hawk doesn't run correctly

    Hi everyone,
i am French. I bought a msi gtx 760 hawk in June 2014. The first bios runs correctly with overclocked frequencies. The second bios, named Ln2 bios to manage manual frequencies doesn't runs correctly. In fact, with msi afterburner, the powerlimit is locked to 111% versus 185% for its dedicated bios. It is a fresh install with nvidia drivers up to date. So, coud you help me to reflash the second bios ? I have an another question. When I flash bios, what position do I use ? (normal bios or ln2 bios). Bios are independant ?
    Thanks a lot.
    Have a good day.

Be aware that LN2 vbios is never factory overclocked.
    Try the attached.
Decompress the provided .rar archive with Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
NV300MH.101 is normal vbios and NV300MH.110 is LN2.

  • GTX 760 HAWK high-pitching sound?

    Hello!
I have recently bought a MSI GTX 760 HAWK.
    But there is an issue:
When the GPU is loaded at 0%, it makes a loud high-pitching sound.
When loaded not. I checked it with multiple programs sucbh as MSI Afterburner
Is this normal? I mean my old GPU did that too but then when it's heavily loaded.
The package(of the GPU) reads: "Minimal power supply: 500w(based on Intel i7)".
    I have a 450w supply with an i5 CPU.
I calculated if the GPU is compatiable (without OC) and it is compatiable - just(I think +30-50 watts and it would'nt anymore) - .

I highly suggest replacing this psu as it is insufficient for your setup. A system with a reference design GTX760 already requires 30A on +12v and a 500W PSU minimum. Your split rail 450W psu (http://store.antec.com/Product/power_supply-earthwatts/EA-450-PLATINUM/0-761345-27450-0%20%20.aspx) just barely offers 30A (405W) in total across two +12 rails maximum. Hence even for a reference design GTX760 your psu is on the absolute limit and on the edge of shutdown (or death in longterm use). BUT your GTX760 is not a reference design card, it is a Hawk. Instead of the reference 980MHz Core (Boost Clock:1033MHz) it clocks 1111MHz Core (Boost Clock:1176MHz) or higher and therefor needs up to 4A more on +12v. Consider the sound of your psu as a cry for mercy.

  • No voltage monitoring AB beta 18, GTX 760 Hawk

I noticed something with Afterburner Beta 18, when I use the "extended MSI" setting, I will lose my GPU voltage monitor. I'm using the GTX 760 hawk, what gives? I'm at a loss..

Thanks. My N760 Hawk core is pretty much at the wall with the factory OC. Memory on the other hand can bench up to +550.

  • Control Voltage for Msi GTX 760 Gaming

We can see MSI GTX 760 Gaming has 8 pin + 6 pin conector so good for up to 300W but MSI Afterburner only add 12mV, it's too small with board power and it;s cooler, more voltage can be possible in future

No, nvidia restricts available overvoltage. MSI won't add more overvoltage possibilities.

  • Help with Gtx 760 Hawk

I just purchased a GTX 760 Hawk today. I switched the BIOS to line 2, downloaded the latest Nvidia drivers, and downloaded the latest MSI afterburner beta version. I know that you can set the power limit to 185% but for me, it is stuck on 111%. I tried all of the settings, searched google, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and afterburner. Basically have been trying to figure this out for 4 hours and this is my last resort. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong as to why it won't let me set the power limit to 185%? I set to unlock voltage control and that works fine, but the power limit is stuck on 111%. Thanks in advance!

Yes I tried both line 1 and line 2. It wont let me change the power level. Also when I try to overclock the card past +20 core clock it will crash within about 2 minutes when running furmark or heaven. I tried uninstalling re-installing msi afterburner twice, tried uninstalling and reinstalling with a clean install of the nvidia drivers twice. I switched LN1/LN2 multiple times and restarted each time. I still cannot change the power level, and if I try to overclock it past +20 core clock it will crash. The card runs fine at stock settings and never gets over 50 degrees, I am also using a 750 gold standard PSU so It's not a power or overheating issue. I played a game at stock settings the card ran perfect, but when I try and OC it, even a little, it will crash while playing the same game. I would really like a solution to this to try to get this fixed so I don't have to return it.

  • Msi gtx 560ti hawk running always max clocks

    Hello.
My msi gtx 560ti hawk running always max clocks.
OC core clock up to 1000MHz gives similar results.
OC core clock past 1000MHz will stuck it at 1000MHz. Example i set core clock to 1040MHz and run 3DMark11,but
during the test it never exceeds 1000MHz.
Card is 15 months old and worked normally so far.
    My OC results before was
core clock 1000MHz Core Voltage 1.075V
core clock 1040MHz Core Voltage 1.088V
core clock 1100MHz Core Voltage 1.100V max temps ~78C
I never raised core clock over 1100 and memory clock over 2275.
    Things i'm done so far
    used 310.90 310.70 306.97 306.23 301.42 drivers
    disabled antivirus
mounted card out of the case and switched vbios in silence mode
used Afterburner 2.2.3 Evga Precision X
    reinstalled windows7
    reverted cpu to stock clocks
    Any advice?
    System
    MB: msi z68-gd65 (B3) bios V22.8
    cpu: i5-2500K
    gpu: msi gtx 560ti hawk
    psu: corsair TX750V2 (62 amp 12 rail)
    ram: G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL 2x4g 1600
    os: Windows7 SP1

No! Nvidia controlpanel was set to max perfomans and windows power options to high perfomance.
I changed nvidia to adaptive (windows stayed high perf) and now the clocks to come down again.
    Thanks Svet!
There is still a OC problem when i set core clock over 1000MHz.
I just ran 3dmark11 at following overclock core     1040MHz
                                                                  shader 2080MHz
                                                                  memory 2100
                                                                  core voltage 1.075+0.013
In results window the 3dmark11 says core clock 1040.
Afterburner 2.3.1 monitoring window says max core clock 1000
                                                                              shader 2000
                                                                              memory 2099
Although i´m not seeing shader adjusting bar in 2.3.1, there are  only core clock adjusting bar.
But adjusting a core clock will adjust shader x2. Am i right?

    Hello there.
Recently I bought a MSI GeForce GTX 760 Hawk 2GB GDDR5, but I can't play games like Battlefield 4, Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Assassins Creed 4 Black Flag, etc, with Default Clocks. (games like, DotA 2, Diablo III, Fifa 14, Team Fortress II runs fine)

  • MSI GTX 460 HAWK Talon Attack beeps when is not on load.

    Hello!
Yesterday I bought MSI GTX 460 HAWK Talon Attack together with FSP Group EVEREST 85PLUS 600W PSU.
I put it all in my old PC, powered on, but then after a while (when started to install latest MSI drivers for HAWK) my VGA started beeping periodically. These are short beeps in not fixed time interval.
The most interesting thing is that when I put my card on load, the beeping stops - it beeps only when I am in windows surfing internet etc.
I have searched through forums and didn't find a clear solution to this problem, but most likely it is a PSU issue.
MSI states, that card requires 24A on 12V for whole system (Core i7 ...).
My PSU is capable of the following:
    Output Current:
     30.0A @ +3.3V DC
        30.0A @ +5V DC
        18.0A @ +12V1 DC
        18.0A @ +12V2 DC
        18.0A @ +12V3 DC
        18.0A @ +12V4 DC
        .8A @ -12V DC
        3.0A @ +5Vsb DC Standby
Complete configuration of my system is:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ (Will change soon)
MB: Asus M2N-E (Will change soon)
    RAM: 2 x 2 GB DDR2 800 (Will change soon)
    HDD: 2 SATA drives
    DVD: 1 PATA drive
VGA: MSI GTX 460 HAWK Talon Attack
    PSU: FSP Everest 85PLUS 600
Is there a problem with PSU or something else could be wrong?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi all !
I also have the annoying beep problem.
A couple of weeks ago I purchased a GTX460 Talon Attack and as soon as I entered a game I got beeps coming from the card. Tried a 3DMark and Kombustor, same issue. The PC is build by me, had a JeanTech 700W PSU and a GTX260 which gave me no problems, ever. As soon as I replaced it with the 460, the beeping started.
I returned it to the supplier and i got it back two days ago with the following message:
"Graphics card passes all Tests with no issues, Tests Run: Crysis WarHead, Furmark, 3Dmark Vantage, AVP, Lost Planet 2, Stone Benchmark MSI Kombuster, Resident Evil Benchmark, ATI Mecha, ATI Ladybug, "
(Graphics card passes all Tests with no issues, Tests Run: Crysis WarHead, Furmark, 3Dmark Vantage, AVP, Lost Planet 2, Stone Benchmark MSI Kombuster, Resident Evil Benchmark, ATI Mecha, ATI Ladybug, Streetfighter Benchmark and heaven benchmark tool, these were all tested at 1920 x 1200 resolution running maximum settings, tested on DX9, DX10 and DX11 where applicable, there was no issues apparent. There was no bleeping coming from the card)
    Regards,
    Overclockers UK - Support"
So I bought a brand new Antec TruePower 650W as I thought maybe the PSU does not regulate the voltages properly. No luck, I am still getting beeps but it's very weird. In idle (browsing internet, watching a movie or listening to music) the card is completely silent and sits in 25-29 degrees. As soon as I enter World of Warcraft (for example) and the temperature rises, at 35-36 degrees, I get 4-5 beeps then it stays quiet and I can play normally. (1920x1200 highest settings)
When I get out of the game and the temp drops, again around 36-35 degrees I get 1-2 beeps and then it remains silent again. No artefacts, errors or freezes. (so far)
I have seen the round sticker "Warranty void if removed" on the back of the card but I haven't touched it.
I really don't know what to do with it at this point and it's a very annoying problem, I cannot play anything like this.
I don't want to RMA it again since it already cost me £30 (transport & testing) plus a brand new PSU. And I love the card, the construction, the looks and the fact that it runs so cold. I just want a "fix".
    Any ideas please ?
    My system:

    Zalman CNPS10X-Quiet
    Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Sorry for the wall of text and thanks in advance. I really hope someone has a solution or it's going to be an annoying Christmas. (I'm a technical PC engineer with a fixation for everything to go smooth)
