  • MSI GTX560 Ti Hawk - can a pc case make a difference.

Can a PC case make the components sound worse?
I've got the Antec Def-Con 35 and the entire pc sounds very noisy - i mean i can hear the computer is switched on even from across the hallway.....I've got the MSI GTX560 Ti Hawk and according to many reviewers like http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/4049/msi_geforce_gtx_560_ti_hawk_video_card_review/index17.html
the graphic card is a very quiet card with high performance.
Do you think another case can make a difference? My friends i7 with GTX460 in a NZXT Hades case has a very nice soft whoosh playing BC2 at full graphics while mine is definitely much louder.

I've had a 260 GTX OC Twin Frozr, 465 GTX Twin Frozr ll, 460 Hawk Twin Frozr ll and now a 560 GTX Ti Twin Frozr ll and none of then made much noise till fan speed went over 70-75 % running Furmark on them. In normal daily use the front fan in my case makes more noise than anything else in it. I would bet that all of those case fans you have are probably making too much noise. I have 1 front & 1 rear case fan and they are all that's needed to keep noise down & provide enough airflow for cooling my rig in the Cooler Master Elite 330 case. If your 560 is running to hot and the fans at high speed then remove the HSF on it and replace the TIM on it There seems to have been quite a few MSI cards that needed this done. I guess I was one of the lucky ones that didn't have that problem.
Take a cardboard tube like what paper towels come on and isolate what fans are making the loudest noise.

  • MSI GTX560 Ti Hawk Load Temperatures

I just got my MSI GTX560 Ti Hawk within the last week. It's a nice 37 degrees on idle but runs at 75 degrees on load with fans running at 70-76% taken from GPU-Z. I tried running it with the case open with a large fan blowing into the case but the temperatures only dropped 3-4 degrees to 73-74 degrees. Before getting the Hawk I read reviews that it should run between the low 50s to at most high 60s if the fan speed switch set to "silent". But for mine, the switch is set to "performance" but I couldn't get similar temperatures. Any help for my situation? :/
Oh yeah here are my PC Specs:
    Intel Core i5-2500 @ 3.30GHz
    Biostar TP67B+
MSI GTX 560 Ti HAWK with 270.61 Driver

    FSP Aurum 600w
    Coolermaster CM 690 II Basic
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
The ambient temeperature is around 27 degrees on average at night here where I stay and was 27 degrees when I took the readings.
All hardware is runnign at stock voltages and speeds, no overclocking has be done at all on any component.

  • Z87-G43 can't reboot - how to update BIOS?

Hey all, today I built a new PC with an MSI Z87-G43 mainboard and an i5-4690 CPU.
I have the problem that the PC can't reboot or reset, instead the PC just keeps running and doing nothing whatsoever.
This seems to be a known issue and the solution is to update BIOS + ME firmware.
For an explanation on how to do that everyone keeps linking to this topic. But to be honest, I don't understand what I have to do now :( (Also, I have never done a BIOS update in my life, and I am kinda scared of the warnings that it can brick the system...)
Could someone tell me which files exactly I have to use for this specific mainboard?

Quote from: Chike on 17-May-15, 17:02:57
Check the serial number for manufacturing date, it look like this:
    S/N: xxx-xxxx-xxxxYYMMxxxxxx
    i5-4690 requires BIOS 1.7 dated 2014-02-26 and the i5-4690K BIOS 1.8 dated 2014-05-29
If the board date is later than the required BIOS release it is likely that you have it already.
That part of the serial number is 1402, so slightly too early I guess? In the BIOS setup it says V1.6 as well, screenshot:
    Quote
How exactly, does it keep rebooting or does it just stay on?
It just stays on, I get a black screen and the fans are running. I need to press the power button for a few seconds so it turns off, then I can turn it on again.
This happens whenever the PC should reboot: When I select "reboot" in Windows, it shuts down and then black screen. Whenever I press the reset button, I just get the black screen. Also e.g. after exiting the BIOS. The problem existed already before I installed Windows, so wrong settings there can hardly be the reason.
Everything happens exactly as described in the topic I linked.

  • MSI GTX560 Ti Hawk SLI Temperature too high

    Hi,
Two days ago I bought a second GTX560-Ti hawk (Twin Frozr III) to run in SLi with my other (the exact same card). I noticed that the VRAM temperature of one of the cards (I'm guessing the top one, but I'm not 100% sure) got really high. It got to something like 90 degrees celcius. Core temperature was ok for both cards, a little bit higher than when running a single card but I suppose that is to be expected.
Also when I stopped doing anything when it got to that temperature I noticed that the VRAM temperature wasn't going down very fast.
I've tried both cards separately and didn't observe those temperatures so I'm guessing the cards are ok. It's only in SLi modes that these have issues. I was wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction as to fixing this problem, as right not I cannot play any games because I'm worried that the temperatures will become too high.
    It's worth mentioning I have a MSI P67A-GD55 (B3) motherboard.
Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

Actually I got a new case and put everything in and did as you said (switched the cards) and got no screen at all.
If I switch the cards to the original set up it works like I described before. I'm guessing the second card is faulty and I will RMA it.

  • How to update bios with no floppy

Hey everyone, i just first wanted to thank everyone for helping people like me out , My questions is the title.. how to flash bios without a floppy drive and not using Live Update ( which i heard causes more trouble then help ).  I have Bios 1.5 and would like to move up to bios 1.6 for better overclocking, i am stuck right now @ 240 x 9 = 2160Mhz.  if i move it past 240 even to 241 it wont post at all, but my system is not even being pushed, i lower the mem divdeder to 100 and cpu multi to 7x and nothing.  I heard bios 1.5 is bad with overclocking and 1.6 would help me. Thank you.

i use winflash all the time. and as jaybee said, its pretty safe as long as you turn off everything (except your PC of course )
and if somehow, the BIOS is corrupt, you can just DL a new one, reflash it and still be okay without ever having to reboot.
I beg to differ. When I had flashed my K8N Neo (7030) board to the now recalled 1.8 bios (in DOS), I tried to flash it to 1.9 beta using Winflash, following the instructions here on the forum to the very last point, and for me Winflash did not work. Not only did it fail to flash, it also failed to flash using several different bioses. So even though I was able to reflash without rebooting, it did not help me since no bios file worked.
My bios was corrupt and I had to order a replacement chip.
There is always the possible hardware fault (bad flash chip), but since it flashed successfully in DOS only a few days before, I see no reason to suspect the hardware.
My recommendation is therefore: *always* *always* *ALWAYS* use DOS when flashing.

  • How to update BIOS on Satellite L40-13G

    Hello everybody!!
I want to update my BIOS, but doesn't know how to do it. I looked instruction on a site:
    Option 2: Update with CD-ROM
    1. Extract the zip file containing the BIOS upgrade to a temporary folder.
    2. In the temporary folder three sub folders will be generated. "docs", "Update - 3,5' Disk", "Update - CD-R or CD-RW"
    3. How to make a bootable CD-ROM please read the *.pdf file in the "docs" folder.
    4. Ensure the Notebook is connected to the mains.
    5. Turn the Notebook off.
    6. Place the CD-ROM containing the BIOS upgrade in the optical disk drive.
    7. Turn the Notebook on with the F12 key.
    8. The BIOS boot menu appears. Select CD/DVD or the CD-ROM symbol using the arrow keys. Press "Enter".
    9. The Notebook will boot from the BIOS upgrade CD-ROM.
    10. A boot menu appears. Select the point for update the BIOS by using the arrow keys. Press "Enter".
    11. The BIOS update process starts. Do not switch off the notebook during update.
    12. If the update process is finished follow the instruction on the screen.
Downloaded such update of bios: bios-20070904123621.zip
    Page with update file: http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_bios.jsp
Then I decompressed zip,.. and didn't see three directories, which written about in instruction (from above).
Help please, what I must to do. Or how to update my BIOS?
    Thank you!

    Listen Alexey!!
At this time you can find the BIOS 2.20-WIN for Satellite L40 on the Toshiba European driver page.
This is a *windows-based* version of the BIOS. Its *NOT* traditional BIOS version.
In such case you cannot update the BIOS using a diskette or CD. The BIOS update must be performed while the OS is running!!
However, the BIOS update is tricky and always RISKY!!! If you have no problems with your notebook, dont update anything!!!
The wrong BIOS or wrong BIOS update procedure can damage the board!!!!

  • Re: Portege R500 - How to update BIOS on Windows 7?

    Hello,
I want to update the bios of my Portege R500 to the 1.6 version. It's a windows-update BIOS and when I launch it under Windows 7, I get the message:
[Error] BIOS Update is not supported OS. Unsupported OS or service pack is installed.
I have to reinstall XP in order to update the Bios? File name is P0058v160.exe. Does anyone know if BIOS update works in Virtualisation mode? I would install Sunbox VM, install XP and run the BIOS update. But will it work?
    Does anyone has an idea?
    Regards,
    Roro

    Hi
You cannot format the 32GB SHCI card because the card reader of R500 support only SDHC cards up to 8GB!
So even you will update the BIOS, the 32GB SDHC card will not be recognized
    Back to your BIOS update question;
Since the BIOS is OS independent, the BIOS update should work using Win 7 too.
As far as I know some Toshiba tools are needed in order to start the BIOS update.
Using Win XP you need Common Modules installed.
Using Vista or Win 7 the VAP (value added package) should be installed.

  • Satellite A200-1DN - How to update BIOS for Windows 7

I'm running 32bit Windows 7 on a Satellite A200 1DN. I've been having battery problems (plugged in, not charging) and I understand I need to update my BIOS. However I can't find a BIOS update for Windows 7, only Vista and XP.
Can anyone help? Should I update with the Vista BIOS? Are there any other options for solving this battery problem? I've already tried an ATX reset, and uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ian

Theoretically, you can install Windows Vista to update Bios and return Win 7, then. Before doing, try this:
Unplug the computer from the AC adapter and turn it on. Let the computer run under battery power until the computer turns off
Remove the battery pack. Using a soft cloth, wipe off the battery packs connectors and the AC adapters connectors.
Re-insert the battery pack and plug the computer into the AC adapter
    > I've already tried an ATX reset, and uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery.
by the way, did you have the same issue before installing Win 7?

I have two MSI N580GTX that I "think" I need to update the Bios. For some reason LiveUpdate 5 doesnt do a thing when updating in Windows.
    System Specs:
    W764 Ultimate
    AMD Phenom II X4 970
    MSI NF980-G65 (MS-7612) v1.4
MSI N580GTX (SLI) Bios Version 70.10.17.00.01
What are the steps ? For Video Cards ?

The Cards are N580GTX Twin Frozr II/OC that came with 822 MHz Core

However though it rolled back the clock ? Why was this when out of box it was 822 ?
Because of outdated VBIOS of the card{s}.
800, 4096 are correct one for your cards:

I don't know how to flash my Bios. My version now is 2.70 and the latest is 3.6 or something like this. When I pressed the install sh. button and downloaded the latest version I have to put some Data on a floppy disk to save and flash bios. or if ur board doesn't support live updates, here's another way : -
1)format ur floppy and choose "Create System Boot Disk"
2)copy the extracted .exe files downloaded from MSI BIOS section, which are 1 exe file and 1 bin file
3)Go into bios in BIOS Features, select Floppy as ur Boot-0 or First Boot Device,Save Exit
4)Boot into the floppy and type the awdfl822a.exe or something like that, when prompted, type in the bin file name.
5)Will be asked whether to continue or to backup ur current bios, yes if u want to,then continue.
    6)F1 to restart ur machine,and u're done~

  • Satellite A500 - How to update BIOS?

    Hi,
i've wanted to update my notebook to the new bios version 1.30. i've startet the windows based update. the update failed in the middle(6 pakets or something left) of the installing process and the system was frozen. after i've rebooted, i wanted to start the bios update for a second time, but the installer said, that i have already installed the bios version 1.30.
How can i update my notebook completely, because my fan is still running on a high level.
    best regards

    Hello
You should be happy that your ROM module isnt damaged as yet because this happens normally if the update fails.
Anyway, try to load the default settings in BIOS and try the update again. You must be logged in as administrator and close all running programs (also AntiVirus, firewall, etc.) Dont forget to extract all files from zip archive.
If it doesnt work you should contact an authorized service provider. The technicians should reflash the whole ROM module and then you can have new BIOS version too. Maybe it will done for free due warranty. :)

  • MSI GTX560 Ti Hawk - i like it now....

For the first in 2 weeks after getting the pc i'm liking my system now. Initially i had a noise issue with the MSI GTX 560 Ti Hawk - it was running very noisely - like a vacuum cleaner after 10-15 min of BC2. what is my solution?- I've used Afterburner to undervolt by 100% and also decreased the clock speed to something 700+.... and it's running at approx. 62-63 celcius with just a constant low frequency fan noise. No more higher pitch helicopter taking off sound.....so the secret is undervolting and underclocking the card to get the quietness. Am i missing anything if i do that? How come no none has suggested it before - i've bought TIM (Arctic AS5) but think i'll hold back from using it first since i like what i'm getting now.
I've still got to play a bit more to see if the temp will climb together with the fan noise.......

    Quote from: Newbie121 on 30-October-11, 06:39:48
What did you mean MSI cheated??? Based on the Guru3D reviews the MSI GTX 560 Ti Hawk is the champion - that's why i bought the card in the first place - according to the reviews and numbers/performance the card WAS the best choice......but i'm still reading a lot of users complain about the fan noise & temps. Is this one of the most mis-represented Graphic card or are these normal responses from graphic card users.....do all graphic cards users report/complain about their fan noise/temps.
Nope. My old palit 460 oc was audible under load but its performance was within 5% of reviews.
So I was happy with that.
My card is so far off reviewed specs. I guess i'll RMA on Monday and hope against hope the next card can run at stock speeds at full load at less than 60% fan (that's all I want)

you can try to reseat the VGA heatsink and to reapply the new thermal paste,
