MSI GTX580 Twin Frozr 2, how to identify it?

Hi,
I need to verify if the graphic card that is in my computer is really MSI GTX580 Twin Frozr 2, and not GTX560 or GTX570 (to check if i wasn't cheated...). I cannot identify it from the others twin frozr 2 cards since it has same cooling system and no distinct markings anywhere on the card, or at least i dont know about them. Computer still isn't functional, but will be later on today. I didnt receive card in package, but already installed in miditower case.
So plz i need fast answer, if there is any visual identification i can do, or software that i can use later today to see what graphic card it is.

tell S/N of your card
or just run VGA software like Afterburber:

  • MSI GTX580 Twin Frozr II too hot?

    Hi
Just purchased an MSI GTX580 Twin Frozr II (800 mhz clock). Noticed the temps seem rather higher than what I expected. With case open, Idle temps are around 42C but running (45C case closed) (ambient temp is about 18-19C) Witcher II the load temps were getting up to 88C (95C with case closed and fans at 85%). This was after about 15mins. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but the load temps with case closed (95C) are getting rather close to the chips max 97C where it starts to down-clock. So, is my Card faulty?
    Steve

    Hi,
Just a quick update. Did some experiments last night. Laid the computer on its side and held a 120mm fan directly over the video card. Idle temps went down to 36C from 42C. I then ran furmark at 1920 by 1200 res extreme burn-in. Temps never got higher than 81C. Do these temps seem normal or are they still higher than what they should be? The heat sink on the video card gets extremely hot to touch at load, so plenty of heat is being transfered. The case, by-the-way, is a Lian-Li V1000 plus which has the motherboard placed in an upside-down config, so that the video card is at the top and processor below. This it got me thinking that air is getting trapped at the top and the venting fan isn't strong enough to pull the hot air out quick enough.

I downloaded the rar that you attached , did what you told me to do ...i run GPU-Z and it shows that the BIOS version is the number 70.10.17.00.01 ,Is this the latest bios or is it the old one.????
This number will remain the same.

  • MSI GTX580 Twin Frozr II OC Edition; Battlefield 3 green squares artifact crash.

    Greetings respected moderators!
I came to your forum because I seek your help. Allow me to explain my problem. Today when I've played Battlefield 3 after a while my game crashed - it froze in place. The screen displayed small green square artifacts all over the screen. I had to force shut down the game with task manager in order to resume using my computer. I've restarted my game and continued playing it until it happened two more times in a short amount of time. Then I've decided to look into it.
This is what my screen looked liked, although this image is not mine. I'm only using it as a reference.
The most interesting thing is that I've only had this happen to me(exactly the same type of crash) once or twice in the past when I still had the old drivers. Back then I was using High video settings in my game. About a week or so ago I formatted my computer and installed the latest NVIDIA drivers - 310.90. This time I was using the lowest video settings in my game. Yet the game crashed more than it did with the higher settings. This puzzles me...
I did some research on the internet and what I've found out is that this type of crash is very commonly associated with GTX 580. Users with the same problems posted on many forums and the replies they got were all sorts of possible reasons why this crash occurs. One of them is being overheating. I've tested that and ran my game the fourth time after my third crash, and the temperatures of the GPU didn't go over 70°C. Then I've also did a stress test with MSI Kombustor and the temperature stayed under 70°C. So I believe I can exclude overheating.
The next very common thing that users wrote was that the GTX 580's core voltage was set too low by factory default, causing this type of crash with DirectX 11 games while playing them. By manually increasing the voltage it seemed that it was the most common fix for the problem. According to MSI Afterburner my core voltage is 1025 and people on the forums suggested raising it to 1100, therefore fixing their crashing.
Third thing that I've read was that this is caused by the latest 310.90 drivers. Some users with the problems reverted to the old drivers and the crashing stopped, while it didn't fix it for others.
Now my questions is: Why did my game start crashing all of a suddenly, in such way on lowest video settings and so frequently, when I could play it for months on end with higher settings without a single crash?
I do not want to overclock my GPU and unfortunately I do not remember which were the NVIDIA drivers I was using before I formatted my computer.
I thank you in advance, wise moderators of this forum and hope that you will be able to help me.
    Have a wonderful day!

    Good day to you Svet!
Like I've wrote before, the only changes I did to my computer were the updates that came with Live Update 5. I only installed driver updates through that. I did it regularly ever since I've got my computer 7 months ago. Back in those 7 months the crash only happened once or twice.
Then a week ago I formatted my computer completely, reinstalled Windows 7 and also applied all of the available updates that came with Live Update 5. I've also downloaded the latest NVIDIA GPU drivers. The game worked flawlessly for the whole week until it started crashing yesterday.
Also I had no idea that the overheating could start at under 70°C, especially because I have two extra fans installed, one in the front and one in the back of my case so that there is regular flow of cold air, which enters in the front and exits at the back.

  • MSI gtx580 twin frozr III PE

     Hi
i play around with AB from time to time.
And nowdays when i use 857core adn 205/2015mem i get wierd stuf on screen during heaven but the temps are as good as they can be i also use like 78-80% fan speed just to make sure the temps don´t go too high and they are almost never above 64C core and 55C mem vrm is like 50C
so if i get artifacts in heaven and the temps are like 48C isn´t that a bit strange?
Voltage is stock i can and will not tamper with that.
same clock in say D3 or 3D mark 11 don´t give those wierd stuff i get in heaven also heaven crashse more and the driver stoopped respoding error is also very common when using oc on core above 840Mhz
so is it really artifacts in heaven or is it due to beta drivers?
like 305.53,304,92 well i also get those wierd color flashes with WHQL drivers.
but not in 3d mark 11 and not ni Diablo 3
well i hope i wrote all this preatt understandable

well i don´t really dare to tamper with voltages, thing is i´m afraid i might up it just a little too much and burn the card.
Even though it is a PE and should be safe to maybe just up a little but still it is no foolproof thing
ok no mem but find a stable core, doers it mean that no"driver stopped reponding" errors?

  • GTX580 Twin Frozr II bsod..

Hey guys. I have recently purchased an MSI GTX580 Twin Frozr II OC edition and I am encountering blue screens of death after playing battlefield and call of duty black ops.. The time period I get those bsod is not specific, in other words I may get one after 10 minutes or after 1 hour. To be honest, that's what worries me the most.
I have updated the vbios to the latest one with 1.025v and 800/1600/2048 Mhz. Furthermore, the blue screens I am getting don't splash and go right away. Actually the bsod stays there untill I reset my pc and they say about newly added hardware and stuff. I uploaded the dump file for you so you can help me.. https://rapidshare.com/files/459837240/043011-7831-01.dmp
I couldn't figure out how to upload the .dmp file to the forum so if there is any problem with the link I provided please tell me.

  • How long is MSI 6950 Twin Frozr II

Anyone know the actual length of MSI 6950 Twin Frozr II card (including the heatsink/cooler)?
    MSI site says 275mm long.
    http://www.msi.com/product/vga/R6950-Twin-Frozr-II.html#/?div=Specification
But the card (without the cooler) is only 241mm. Check this image (source):
    http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j37/clon22/R6950_TF2_2G/R6950_TF2_2G_user.jpg
And from a top view image it doesn't look like the cooler fins go out 34mm (275-241).  Image (source):
    http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/HD_6950_Twin_Frozr_II/images/card2.jpg
EDIT: I'm trying to fit into antec solo case, which only have 270mm of space. Hopefully this can go in without a mod or atleast not a major one like cutting pieces out of hdd cage.

    any luck on fitting it?

Hello. I've got a strange issue with my radeon 6870. Every time i play a game a small white flashes appears in random area of a screen. From 2-4 mm (Crysis, Bulletstorm and Fallout 3) to ~ 1-1,5 cm (Napoleon: Total War).I cant post a screenshot because it happens really fast  (just like someone hiding in a trees with a camera). In Crysis 2 and Bad Company 2  instead a small dots a large transparent nearly visible spots  appears from time to time.

I've tried overclock and downclock my VGA, fresh Windows install, 11.2, 11.3, 11.4 EP with no effect.

  • GTX580 Twin Frozr II OC : Display driver crashing in DX11

I have two GTX 580 Twin Frozr II OC in SLI. nvlddmkm.sys seems to crash and restart after about 10 -15 mins on gameplay on DX11 games (I have seen it happen in F.E.A.R. 3 and Crysis 2 DX11). I have not had any issues with other games (I haven't played any other DX11 games), and surprisingly, it hasn't occured on Heaven benchmark (DX11) either, for some reason.
    Config:
    Core i7 2600K @ 4.5Ghz (Vcore:1.35V | Mult: 45)
    Corsair Dominator GT 8GB @ 1600Mhz, 2 DIMMS (1.6V, 9/9/9/24)
    ASUS P8P67 Deluxe
    Corsair HX 1000W
2 x GTX580 Twin Frozr II OC (not overclocked above the factory overclock)
    300GB Intel 320 SSD
    500GB WD Black Caviar
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    Single Monitor
The BIOS for the cards is up-to-date, so are all drivers.
The voltage for both the cards was 1025mV. I upped the voltage to 1050mV (using Afterburner) and I haven't had any issues since (played Crysis 2 DX11 for a couple of hours). Could that have been the issue? If so, how do I permanently set the voltage to that value? And why am I having to do this in the first place?
    Thanks!

Quote from: TripShock on 16-July-11, 10:30:54
Also, do you know how to flash a new BIOS with different default values? I rather not have to set Afterburner to autostartup...
    - download NiBiTor v6.0 or above
    - save your bios by GPU-Z
    - open saved bios in NiBiTor and go to Tools/Fermi Voltage
    - change voltages Setting 2 and 3:0 from 1,0250 to 1,0500
    - change voltages Setting 2 and 3:1 from 1,0750 to 1,0880
    - klick Apply
    - save bios named gtx580.rom
    - than you must flash this bios on the card, you need bootable usb disk - try GOOGLE
    - if you have bootable usb and have copied right files for nvflash, restart pc, and get to boot from usb
    - in DOS mode write these commands: nvflash --protectoff for unlock security before flashing and the second command is nvflash gtx580.rom (name of saved bios)
    - watch in progress and at the succeed end, restart PC
    - finally in windows, reinstall driver for card
Hope this manual was helpfully for you. Sorry for my english

  • MSI HD7950(twin frozr) 100% fan speed .. anymore solutions

    Hi guys
i purchased a  msi HD7950 twin frozr from ebay however it runs at 100% all of the time and no software can tame it ... ive also followed the guide and removed the faulty D201 diode which also never worked as the card still runs at 100% ( speedfan reports 4000rpm )
so apart from the faulty diode and using software is there anything else i can do ....   ?
i was considering strapping 2 x 120mm fans to the card powered directly from the psu and a 3rd party gpu cooler ( such as the arctic cooling range ) also came to mind allthough these tend to be expensive
i also considered a fan limiter i got with a previous 3rd party gpu cooler .... if i reduced the fan speed power from 12v to 7v would this make any difference ?
                     many thanks

Well at what temp does the gpu/ram/vrms run at? Check with Afterburner: >>How to use MSI Afterburner<<

  • Msi r6870 twin frozr ii (Blue screen to no screen)

Hello everyone, today i installed my msi r6870 twin frozr ii and right when my computer was downloading the driver it crashed to blue screen and now the computer will turn on at high speed but it wont slow down like usual start up and the screen wont show a signal. Anyone have an idea about what this is? Thank you so much for helping!

I cannot believe that re-installing the original / previous Video Card before the new HD6870 that you still get a Blank screen or " No Signal " message.
When you First Power Up the computer Don't you get a Start Up Screen where as you can press F4 or the " Key to get to BIOS " and then Reset things to DEFAULT.
The video card should be Identified as VGA compatible (no AMD Driver required ) by the Operating System itself.
The only other thing I can think of is somewheres a Major File got Corrupted. If you have a RESTORE disc that came with the computer please use it.
If you have an OS (guess you might be using Vista or Windows 7) OEM disc , use the REPAIR feature ... place the OS disc in the optical drive and let it Boot.
Do Not Reformat your Hard Drive as you will lose all your Data, including programs, pictures, etc: Unless you have an Backup or don't care as nothing is relevent/important and can be replaced.

i noticed that the heatsink easily twisted side to side VERY EASILY as i installed my r9650.
that made me wonder what holds it to the board..and if there is anything did it get tightened, and how tight, and what did they put under it.. ??
i use this.. supposed to be 4x better than silver.

fixing it would probably void the warranty but it would at least run..mine freezes up on BC2.  i had a 512Mb nividia 8800 that ran BC2 just fine, the graphics weren't as good but it did run the game very well.
i always end up replacing the thermal paste. i repair computers, first thing i do on platforms is replace the hard plastic chewing gum on the heatsinks, that is often all it takes to get them running again. why would anyone put 2 cent paste on a $300 item.. turning it into a 2 cent item.. ??  ever hear about the weakest link story?

It will be still OC-ed, stock/reference clocks are 772MHz,4008MHz,
while you will have 800MHz, 4096MHz as OC version
