MSI GTX660 TI and UEFI

Hello,
I built my computer a couple months ago and installed Windows 7 x64 in Legacy. Everything ran smooth.  Then I ended up getting Windows 8 x64 and installed in Legacy mode and everything was fine.  Now fast forward to today.  I decided to re-install Windows 8 in UEFI to get some fast boot times and running into a problem that seems to be caused by my MSI Video Card.
I think I have the latest firmware for my card and I thought the 660 is supposed to support UEFI, right?  I have the Monitor 1 plugged into 1st DVI of the GTX660.  I have 2nd monitor plugged into 2nd DVI of GTX660.  I then ended up having to plug in 1st monitor also to the HDMI of the MB (IGP) to be able to see loading screen up until i hit the log on screen.  Then i have to switch inputs on my first monitor to DVI to log in and get see windows.
I am also getting a weird error when I start up.  Between the intel logo splash screen and logging in.  The error is: "Video OptionRom Authenticate Failed". Not using secure boot either. It is really really annoying having to switch inputs everytime.  And I'm not even sure once I start installing stuff and running my programs, if its the HD4000 IGP or the GTX660 GPU that will be used. I had to turn my IGP on in bios for my computer to boot up otherwise it wont because the GPU doesnt seem to be recognized off the bat.
Basically just asking if there is a firmware update i need to do to my MSI GTX660 TI card to be able to run UEFI smoothly.  If the error is being caused by the video card and how to fix it if it is.
Thanks in advance!
My computer Configuration
CPU: Intel i7 3770k
MB: DZ77GA-70K (Running latest 0061 Bios)
GPU: MSI GTX660 TI
GPU BIOS Version: 80.04.4B.00.16
S/N for MSI GTX660 TI: 602-V284-09SB1208004565

here it is
You are a God among men Svet, don't let anyone ever tell you differently!
I was able to update the BIOS on my MSI GTX660 TI and computer booted perfectly without that error.  I can now also just use both DVI outputs for both my monitors and see the MB post flash logo thing on my main monitor using DVI.  No more having to use my IGP and HDMI.
Thanks again for your quick and working solution reply!

  • MSI P67A-C45 - C-State, Turbo Boost, RAM and UEFI questions

I received my MSI P67A-C45 B3 a few days ago. After having installed the OS and the rest, I tried to enable C-State (no limit) and surprisingly it works (with the B2 it caused a freeze). After some time I noticed a sort of high pitched noise and I knew it was the C-State because I had read it here. So I just disabled it, later I'll tray to see if the other C-States (C3, C6, etc.) work without any noise. I'll also try different combinations of the phase mode, currently I'm using Intel SVID because it has a slightly lower idle voltage.
    1) First thing, why do I hear a noise only when C-State is enabled? I'm curious.
    2) I've also read that disabling the C-State affects how Turbo Boost works, is it true? If yes, what is the difference? Honestly I don't see any relation, one is a power saving feature and the other gives temporary extra performance when needed.
    3) About the B3, I noticed that my RAM (G.Skill Ripjaws 1333MHz) haven't the correct timings, they are one value higher (more loose, for example 10 instead of 9).
This didn't happen with the B2 and UEFI 1.8, all the timings were exactly those in the JEDEC #4 profile. I see that in version 1.9 and 1.A they've improved memory compatibility, perhaps it's related?
Anyway since it doesn't matter to me I just left them on auto.
    4) I'm not planning to update my UEFI (B3 came with v1.9) for a few months since it works fine (except that small RAM problem) and I don't overclock.
I noticed that the latest version is 1.A, so it's normal to use 1.A after 1.9? I've never seen it before.

This might shed some light on question #1. Reply #17; https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=147219.0
    Thanks!
Does someone know anything about question #2?
    @krkrkr
I'm currently using APS mode with C-State enabled and the noise isn't there. The strange thing is that the Vcore is the same both with C-State enabled or disabled. Anyway I think I'll continue using APS mode with C-State enabled, thanks.
Now I have a problem, I'm trying to update the UEFI but it doesn't work. I downloaded UEFI v1.A for the B3, then I used method I of the MSI HQ Tool but during the UEFI update it blocks at "Preparing to take a new BIOS backup". It just stays like that all the time...
    How can I resolve?
Now I still have v1.9 and if I go in the CPU features I get "Error invalid input method" (or something similar, I can't remember properly). Before trying to update it didn't happen.

I just bought MSI GTX660 twin frozr (S/N 602-v287-04SB1208179614) and my problem started to have random restarts (few times a week) at idle (while browsing or while PC being idle), event log has nothing just kernel power lost :(
Monitors just go off (i have 32inc LCD on HDMI and 22inc on DVI/RGB) PC turn off and restarts... thats all, did not test with just one display????
    I have:
Asus p8p67 B2 rev bios 2303 (3xxx bioses need B3 revision of the chipset)
    8GB of ram
    2500K
    Windows 7 x64
    700w LC hyperion PSU
    latest NV drivers (clean install)
Before i had GTX460 no problems at all
Also under load PC is 100% stable (memtest, prime, 3d mark, cuda memory test ect)
Also GTX660 is new and has the latest bios 80.06.10.00.15

That this psu is sold as a 700w although it is a 600/630w is a quality statement speaking for itself (means bad quality).
Also there are two versions of that psu and none is at 50A on +12V:
LC Power Hyperion LC8700 V2.2 is a split rail with just 18 A each.
    600W (Peak Load: 700W)
    +3.3V: 30A
    +5V: 28
    +12V 1: 18A
    +12V 2: 18A
    +12V 3: 18A
    +12V 4: 18A
    -12V: 0.8A
    LC8700II V2.3 Hyperion is a single rail
    630W (Peak Load: 700W)
    +3,3V   25A
    +5V   25A
    +12V   45A
The LC8700II therefor looks a bit better. Which one do you have?
i have version 1.0 yeah i know they faked inside is CWT 600-650W but still its near ~50A i think real max is 46A and peak 50+... 700w CWT is 56A...
atm i switched other PCI-e power connector will see in future, so far ~20h no restarts
Also so far i faund few forum posts with restarts problems for kepler GPUs, and both ppl have 2 monitor setup as me, one fixed with switching PSU cables

I read this topic and how it was solved:

I wonder if using the "onboard" GPU in the 4770K would be simpler to load Windows 7?  I did a search and didn't find posts relating to this.

The listed cards will work fine. The integrated gpu won't work better or make it easier for Win7. Just don't enable Win8 features in UEFI.

CPU and GPU info on CPU-Z and GPU-Z applications:
    3DMark Fire Strike score: 6441
3DMark Fire Strike Extreme score: 3384
    3DMark Fire Strike Ultra score:1262
The excel performance proof the brand new 960 graphics card comes with good a high Cost/Performance Value.
Now, check out this test benchmark score of the renowned game “The Crew”.
The game presents an ultra-quality display, 60 Frames Per Second (FPS)
    FPS: Average frames is at:
    Frames: 3859 - Time: 76828ms - Avg: 50.229 - Min: 43 - Max: 56
The comments of the game for your reference:
There are many types of missions that can be chosen from the America’s map.
Street racing, high-speed collision, breakaway from police, sky jumps, zigzagging, etc… make the game quite dynamic.
Now, when it comes to multi-player matches, the performance has exceeded expectations. Perhaps, it is the killer Ethernet that’s working the magic. Thus, this game is highly recommended if you have the right rig.
The downside is that the display intricacy is not as refined as GTA V and in addition, the game FPS is limited at 60 FPS. However, the overall gaming flow and performance is better than good.
The user's comment for using MSI Gaming 5 motherboard and 960 graphics card:
(The following commends are translated from user’s article, does not represent the viewpoint of MSI) ^^
Recently, MSI GTX 960 just launched so the initial price tag is still adjustable.
According to the current product line, it seems like this GPU is going to replace 750Ti. So once all the stocks (750Ti) at the store empties, we are most likely to see a price drop on GTX960.
Once the price hits the sweet spot, it’s time to try out GTX960 SLI’s performance.
The CP value on MSI GTX960 and GAMING 5 MB is pretty high. But the XSplit software that comes with the product is a bit annoying since the authentication steps are divided into 2 parts to go through for using it.
    Enough said, anyways, GAME ON!

NVIDIA 960 card  + GAMING 5 motherboard = best bundle for budget gaming!
it would be nice to see more testing of hardware-demanding games!

    Hello, I'm from Greece

    PSU: HEROLCHI 525 Watt
    RAM: OCZ OCZ3SOE10664GK DDR3 4GB (2x2GB)
    VGA: Albatron 8800 GTS
    HDD: WD 300GB SATA
    The problem is:
I bought them yesterday because i want to upgrade my system.
I connect them all properly in my case and after i turn the PC on it freeze in the MSI logo screen and cant even enter BIOS Setup.
The first time i turned the power on a message like: "Your previous overclockinn atempt was not succssefull. Press a button except del to load defaults and continue." i do what it said and freeze after that message.
This just the first time, the other times it just freeze on the logo screen. Some times it beeps one time and reset by his own and sometimes beeps four times and then reset. The most of the times it just freezes in the logo screen.
I took everything off and reinstall them. Nothing Happen.
I tried with one dimm of RAM each time in deferent positions. Nothing Happen.
I did o clear CMOS from the back button. Nothing Happen.
I perform a clear CMOS with the old method (unplug power, remove battery, wait for a couple o minutes). Nothing Happens.
I believe the problem is with the bios version i have and the CPU compatibility. I look at www.msi.com.tw and it said that this board its compatible with the INTEL E8600 but only at the 7.2 version.
How will i update my bios if my computer doesnt even enter bios setup?
Please help me. any suggestion. I'm losing my mind here!
    Thanks you in advance.

Quote from: triangle on 28-August-08, 17:00:43
the only thing i can suggest is to drop in a 7.0 compatible CPU (if you can) and flash the BIOS to 7.2 that way then switch back in your new CPU.  A painful process, I know ...  Alternatively, if your retailer is friendly they might set it up on a test bench for you and flash it.
    Andrew
Like Andrew mentioned, this is the only way out though it is a long painful process.
The other is to get a board that is compatible to the E8600 right out of the box.

    - one module in first (boot) slot
    or
    - they inserted in first and third memory slots
    Any ideas?

It is not motherboard problem, but processor itself - I have AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3,4 Ghz Core Revision C2 and this revision (according to the article: http://www.fcenter.ru/online.shtml?articles/hardware/processors/27650#02) has problems with support memory modules DDR3-1333 Mhz more than 2 modules. Conclusion - either adjust BIOS settings concerning memory timings and memory controller voltage or replace this kind of processor with the same type but with core revision C3

  • MSI gaming app and GTX760

After latest update for my MSI twin frozr gtx760, when i start MSI gaming app and turn gaming mode i get blue screen. I rly don't know what to do. Anyone else got some bad experience with it?

I have the latest version of the Gaming App. I am using the current driver for this card from the MSI download section for this card. So Nvidia prohibited putting more than 3Gb on a 780? That is depressing and frustrating. I got this card because I enjoy PC gaming on big monitors with high resolutions (not 1080P TV's) and I figured the high VRAM would help run games at high settings on the kinds of monitors I prefer. I was gaming on a 30" Samsung monitor @2560x1600 and now I am using a 34" 21:9 LG monitor @3440x1440. I'm starting to get a bit of a feeling like I wasted my money buying this card. I mean Nvidia is going to poopoo all over having extra VRAM on a 780, the MSI Gaming App won't work for an MSI card and even MSI Afterburner won't read the VRAM correctly on this MSI card.
Oh well, it's the card's fault and the card seems to run alright, but it doesn't seem to be running much better than the 3Gb EVGA 780 that the 6Gb card replaced. I am starting to wonder if I am not getting the best performance out of the card that I should.

Picked up a MSI P67a-GD65 to replace my faulty (and by faulty, not SATA port faulty)Gigabyte UD3P.  Anyways.  I had a stable overclock of 4.7ghz on that board so I assumed w/ close voltages Id hit that on this board.  Ive spent the last 2 days trying to get it stable to no avail.  Dropped the speed to 4.5ghz even w/ same voltages and nothing.
Finally I dropped my RAM speed from 1600mhz c8 to 1333 c9.  System is stable at 4.7 no problem now.  The ram has been used for awhile without any issues on 2 other boards (P55a-UD3 and P67a-UD3P) and memtest checks out.  Is there a problem w/ the 1600mhz strap on this board?  Ive read other people have issues with certain RAM speeds as well (although it varys).  Specs below!

  • MSI 915GM4 Motherboard and a P4 s775 2.66/1M/533 Processor - Dont Work

    Hello Everyone,
    I bought an MSI 915GM4 Motherboard and a P4 s775 2.66/1M/533 Processor yesterday and
assembled it by myself. But when I power it on, it won't display anything nor you can any hear beeping sounds.
So I tried to pull it out from the case to test only the Processor, Motherboard, PowerSupply, Memory and Monitor, but still It won't display nor you can hear beeping sounds that would indicate the cause of the problem.
Later then, I contacted a friend of mine who has a Celeron D s775 Processor and tried it on my MSI Motherboard. Its only the processor that was swapped and nothing else. Guess what? It displays and even loads to windows. So I was started thinking that my own processor might be the problem. But I did not conclude right away that the
processor is the problem and so what I did is I borrowed an Asrock Motherboard (s775)
from the same friend. Now, if this will not work then its confirm that my processor
might be the problem. But I was surprised when it work and still boot up to windows.
Confusion wraps my mind, the next time I started thinking about compatibility issues
and so I visited MSI site looking for CPU Support of my Motherboard and found out that
it should support. Well, to try to resolve this issues I tried flashing the bios for
the motherboard of its latest version updates, but sitll no luck..
Hmmmm.... what could be it? Did I miss something?
Well guys if you could help me on this I really appreciate it.. I don't really know now what move to take.
