MSI GTX770 Gaming minimum/idle fan RPM?

Hi - first post here
I am looking at buying a new GTX770 - haven't decided which brand yet. But I have a question for current owners of the MSI GTX 770 Gaming model.
When idle what RPM does the Twin Frozr fans spin at? And what is the minimum you can set them to?
I ask because it is important to me that my system stay as quiet as possible. I read that some GTX770's bios wont allow lower then 1100-1200 RPM (EVGA in particular). What is this like with MSI?
Thanks in advance

Any1 with this information? Would be much appreciated.

Hi, I have the same issue on R9 270 which of course is a different card. Some other users I can read have that too. I contacted MSI and they replied the following:
"The GPU temp is normal, 78C under full load is similar to what we received under similar test with MSI Kombustor and FurMark, max temp we received was 81C, a bios update will not alleviate this, the chipset naturally runs a bit hotter, If you would like it to run a bit cooler then you may carefully remove the heatsink assembly and add a new layer of quality thermal compound to see if it drops a couple of degrees, nonetheless the temp at 78C is considered normal and within the cards tolerances. If you believe there is an issue with the physical cooling fan then you may send the card in for inspection to your most nearest MSI service center."

  • MSI 970 Gaming Hardware Monitor FAN profile not working in windows

    Hi,
Not sure how this is supposed to work but when I'm in the hardware monitor and I set a min max temp for the fans, it works great in the bios you can see the speed increasing with the temps.
However when I'm in windows the it is stuck at the lowest RPM and speed doesn't increase when the temps raises.
Anyone know the solution to this?
    Windows 8.1 x64 using Aida64 to test.
    Thanks

I'm guessing this isn't my lucky day. I put the BIOS on a mem stick, go in to the BIOS select M-FLASH > Update BIOS > Select the USB stick and BIOS file and BIOS just freezes. I waited for a while because I was afraid it was somehow doing the update and I would interrupt thus breaking the BIOS/Motherboard. Eventually I Hard reset and thank god bios came up again so I tried again, same problem.
I think i'll wait for release notes, it works now and unless there is something worthy in it I'd rather stay away from it. If it ain't broken don't fix it
I admit this thread is puzzling...I have the MSI "970 Gaming" motherboard--and it is so named because it houses the AMD 970a core-logic chipset...It doesn't appear as if the "M.33" bios at the above link is designed for my board--but maybe it is, I can't tell... Current bios is 2.22 (no "M" anywhere)--Just in case we are actually speaking of the same motherboard, I have the same experience with my fan controls in that they seem not to work with the Command Center in the way that you'd think they should work.  Command center is theoretically supposed to run at boot, and any setting you save for system fans 1 & 2 (plus the cpu fan, of course) *should* run when the program runs at boot and you have saved your system fan settings to "smart mode"...  (Says he who is wondering if he's just made a dumb post...) At least, that's what I *think*...Anyway...that apparently does not happen so I pulled Command Center out of my boot-up routine.
You know, if you and I don't have the same motherboard then why do two completely different motherboards bear the same name?  Eh?
Of course, I just may be thoroughly confused about all of this somehow...!

  • MSI 270x Gaming tf - one fan not always start

    Hi,
i bought recently MSI 270x gaming and mine problem was high temperatures. I discovered that one of the fan doesnt work (it look like he had too less voltage to start). I touch him gently and he start work fine for few days (shut down pc for night). Sadly yesterday he wont start again on turn pc (it look like turn power up -> both fans start rotate few times, they stop and next they go on little higher rpm - this is moment when one of fans have troubles).
Fan look really fine, doesnt have any resistance to rotate when you touch him, its look more like problem with control from voltage system.
Its possible to change video card bios in way to give more power to fans on start (i think this will solve problem with not starting fan).
    Here is mine vbios h.ttp://www.filedropper.com/pitcairn

There have been several issues reported about fans on this card model. Seems a batch of this are simply bad. Contact MSI about it or contact reseller for rma. >>How to contact MSI.<<

  • MSI Z97 Gaming 7 PWM Fan setting question

Hello, right now I'm using Z87 motherboard from others vendor (as***k), and now I want to change my motherboard to MSI Z97 Gaming 7. But there's something that I want to ask first. When I'm using still using Z77 motherboard which is MSI Z77A-G45, I can set the PWM fan to change it speed automatically by change the CPU fan to auto in the UEFI. But in the Z87 I currently use I have to customize it in the UEFI, so that my PWM CPU fan change its speed as the CPU temperature changes, it can't be set to auto and I don't like it at all. Now that I want to change my motherboard to MSI Z97 Gaming 7, I'm searching the review first. And I'm seeing that it have similar fan setting with the Z87 motherboard that I currently use
I want to ask, is it possible that I can set the CPU fan setting to auto just like the Z77A-G45 I used to have?

What you are seeing is mulitple breakpoints of temperature, as you do on your AsRock.
I own a Z87GD65, and in mine i only have 1 true breakpoints, which is the temperature in which you want the fans to speed up, according to the temperature of the cpu.  I als did a build for a friend on a Z77GD43 and it was similar just didnt had the graph, as it has on the Z87GD65 nor the new one that you posted on the Z97 Gaming7, but what i see is more customization on the new motherboard, with 4 different breaking points, i see the same restrictions on the PWM %, increments of 12.5% as it is on my GD65, weather its worth it, personally i dont care, one is good enough for me, i usually just spin down my fans to the lowest i can, and set the breakpoints for the temperature i want my fans to spin up, if the temperature is reach they will increase gradually, defined by the max PWM % and max temperature, this two variables (that you can change) will make the graph with more or less inclination.  In the new Z97 Gaming 7, seems the same just multiple breakpoints, meaning you can have different inclinations into how the fans react depending on the temperature, weather its worth it or not.... depends on the level of customization you want to the fan control, personally im fine with a single, but i can see people that could like having depending on their needs, personally what i would have loved though, is to give me 10% increments instead of 12.5%, or 5% would been better, but 12.5% just seems odd number imo.
Remember, MSI only has 2 true PWM fan headers, CPU_FAN1 and CPU_FAN2, even though all are 4pin physically the SYS_FAN are not true pwm fan headers, they are voltage controlled and have much higher restrictions than the real PWM fan headers.  And remember that if you plug 3pin fans on PWM fan headers they will spin at 12V that its the voltage that its handled by PWM fans, so be careful what fan you plug into where to have control on them.
Hmn, so since Z87 MSI use that breakpoint system to control PWM fan, just like my asrock Z87. So there's no auto setting on your Z87GD65?

    GTX770 gaming 2GB
PSU NZXT 650 i just got this one so i think it's not a problem
When i'm gaming usually is Battlefield 4 temp is always 80-84c.
but highest temp show on afterburner is 87c sometimes it's could up to 89c , i cant check it's realtime because rivastatic server do not support battlefield 4 x64.
what wrong with it, it's sound temp too high  i'm not OC and not use gaming app.
I never get crash or poor performance or something else but high temp.
Indeed i wanna try to replace silicone but i can't because they have warrantry void on the screw of the card.

MSI allows to change thermal paste or even change cooler as long as not damaging anything doing so. The sticker is there to warn unexperienced users about possible risk of voiding warranty. So no worries warranty will be fine. If you want to hear from MSI contact the local branch: >>How to contact MSI.<<

  • MSI Z97M Gaming + H105 Pump/Fans

    Hi 1st post.
Just built a new PC with a 4790K cooled by a H105.  Now I have plugged the Pump into CPU_FAN1 and the 2 fans to CPU_FAN2 via a Y-Splitter.
In the MSI BIOS Fan control bit I can't work out which is the pump and which are the fans, also I've been told to run the pump at maximum speed is this correct?
Lastly, I can't understand the fan profile itself, my SP120 fans are rated to max 2500RPM approx but the profile for FAN 1 and 2 list upto 7000RPM?
Sorry, slightly newbie questions but I thank you.
    Ian

3 pin fans/pump under CPUfan headers will always run @100%. Sysfan headers will let you get some control thpugh. But better to leave h105 in cpufan header since pump has to be running full speed all time.

Decompress the provided .rar archive with Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Then flash the included file with Nvflash for dos: http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/nvflash_download.html
To do so rename the included file to .rom and create a dos bootstick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0)
Put nvflash and the vbios file on it and boot from the stick. Then type nvflash -4 -5 -6 gop.rom (if renamed vbios that way) and hit enter. Confirm the questions and let the tool flash

Case Fan: Cooler Master R4-L2R-20AC-GP 69.0 CFM 120mm  Fan
As you can see within my build list am getting Cooler Master R4-L2R-20AC-GP 120mm fans for my case (For short I'll call them R4 fans) and I would like to replace the stock fan from my Hyper T4 with an R4, because they are much quieter than the stock fan and have nearly the same airflow and since I'm getting a side window case it'd be nice to have an LED lit fan in the middle of my case
However the R4's are 3 pin, not 4 pin so they don't have PWM control. Is there a way to set up the H97 PC Mate to control a 3 pin fan in it's 4 pin cpu header?
I talk to MSI over the phone the guy said that it should be able to control the 3 pin fan through the cpu header via controlling the voltage. He said to look it up online to see if I could find how to do it, and to download the user manual and look through it, but I couldn't find anything on how to set up the BIOS to do that.
If I can't I'm not even going to bother to buy a third fan.
    Ty KB_TheDireWolf

    Hi
CPU fan headers are only able to control PWM fans(4 pins). If you lut 3 pin fan into it, it will run 100% possible speed.
SysFan headers can control 3 pinned fans by voltage increase/decrease, between 50-100%. And PWM fans of course too will work.
Maybe a fan splitter, or an actual fan controller would do? I have a controller myself for all 6 fans

    Hi hpipiw
I think the fans are actually fine, its definitely looking like a software issue, I didn't see this problem before installing afterburner, and setting a higher min fan speed seems to have cured the issue for now.
I can imagine that a fan thats seizing up might just stop at lower speeds, but I would think it would struggle to start up when touched.
Keeping an eye on it for now, will of course rma if I notice anything bad happening.
    Cheers for the comment.

  • MSI GTX 970 Gaming - monitoring both fans

Is there a way to monitor the RPM of both fans on then GTX 970 Gaming card.
MSI Afterburner monitors only one fan
... this would also help to determine when the 2nd fan is spinning while the 1st fan
has stopped and Aferburner is reporting 0 RPM.

Neither HWinfo nor Speedfan show GPU fan speed at all ...OpenHardwareMonitor at lease shows the fan speed %
but only for one fan, Afterburner provides both the fan RPM and the % speed, but only for one fan.
Too bad both fans could not be monitored ...would be pretty useful.

What drivers and AB version you have?
The fans are really spinning that fast or this is only wrong read out?
    Thanks for the reply...
Catalyst 13.12 (also tried the ones that came with the card)
Latest MSI AB version from their site...
The fans are running full pelt, trust me it isn't a readout issue in terms of the RPM speed being 3k. Straight from power on they're running at that speed and don't change regardless of  load... Temps are great on another note haha.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks :-)

  • Can I control 3-pin fan with MSI Z97 gaming 5?

Hello, I want to know if I can control 3-pin fan plug into 4-pin header with MSI z97 gaming 5 mobo
    Thanks
    PS: Sorry my poor english

I own an MSI Z87-GD65, im assuming your Z97gaming5 is similar, mine can control 4pin PWM fans on the CPU_FAN1 and CPU_FAN2 headers, and can control 3pin fans on SYS_FAN 1,2,3, all of this on bios fan control (i dont like nor use the Control center).  The limitations of my bios is that on 4pin fans on CPU_FAN1 i can go to 12.5% pwm (as long as the fan can reach this low), while on the 3pin con SYS_FAN i can only drop them down to 50% (thats if you fan can start at that voltage, had one that needed 60%), the fan can be ran at a steady % = rpms or can be dynamically ramp up with the CPU temp, thats also selected on the bios.
Here is a run that i did last weekend on a Silverstone AP182 connected on SYS_FAN3 on pure bios, you can see there the different % and rpms, and in the bottom you can see prime95 run where it did ramp the fans with the cpu temp.
