MSI GX60 1AC THX utilities and cpu upgrade

Hello, I've recently bought clean gx60 without OS. I've made clean install of windows 8 from my dreamspark student account under uefi. I've installed all the drivers from product site. The first problem encounterd was with realtek driver for audio, when i run the setup, it didn't run, then i clicked for troubleshooting, it said program is incompatible. So i installed it, by device manager update driver. Another same problem is with two utilities for THX, they won't run, and windows says they are incompatible. So in this matter any help would be appreciated, becouse i want to benefit from this tools.
Another question is if I can but new amd processor a10-5750m and install it in this laptop eventually, or it can't work.
Cheers

Hello again. So I've managed to find out, that my bios was 105 version for non.win8 systems, so i've updated it to 109 from official site. So now is the question. Does this mean for me, that even so i've installed win8 i lack some of features in for example boot procedure? Should I reinstall the system to windows 7 or reinstall windows 8 under bios not uefi.? Or maybe there is a way to install bios for windows 8 which is uploaded on product site, despite that they're telling that it shouldn't be done?

  • MSI GX60-1AC - Turbo Core @ 3200mhz?

    Hi all,
Running Windows 8.1 with the laptop mentioned in subject line.
It seems I cannot run Battlefield 4 on this laptop even on low settings.  I've gathered it is the CPU (A10-4600M) that is bottlenecking the game, not the GPU.  Especially on 64 player maps.  I just lose FPS and have frequent stuttering.  No matter if I use MANTLE or DIRECTX.
I know how to switch to GAMING profile and ensure the game is set to high performance to utilize the Radeon 7970M and not the APU.  I've had this laptop for a while now and know how to tweak it a bit so I doubt there are any settings wrong.
What I have noticed is that when playing BF4, AMD Overdrive reports my CPU barely runs over 2700Mhz.  If I'm not mistaken this CPU should be able to boost the cores to 3200Mhz when needed and I'm hoping if I can somehow force it to do this while playing BF4 it may run better.  Note this isn't overclocking, I just want to ensure Turbo Core is working during the game.
There is an app called PSCHECK which I believe can force it? but it doesn't seem to run on Windows 8.1.  When I launch PSCHECK it just starts the process but nothing appears on screen.
Can anyone offer any advice and is it possible to get BF4 running smoothly on this laptop?
    Thanks.

    Hello jonn74,
Have you tried updating the BIOS and EC firmware of your laptop?
Since your laptop doesn't support the Windows 8.1, I'm not sure if the problem is in the drivers which you installed from other sources. They may not work properly for OEM laptops so it's better to test it on Windows 8 with original drivers provided by MSI.
I personally borrowed a GX60 1AC with the same 7970M but its CPU is A10-5750M and it can run under medium quality without any low FPS problem. However, the CPU frequency is at 2500MHz only (by CPU-Z).
So based on the result currently I tested, maybe the bottleneck is really on the CPU.
I am not sure if AMD Overdrive can properly overclock the APU because the heat will also increase. If the temperature is too high, that may cause the EC firmware to throttle the power consumption and you won't get too much higher performance. I would rather upgrade the APU.

  • OS X Tiger and CPU Upgrades

I have a 400 MHz G4. I primarily use it for FCP 2 and music but have been having problems seeing my Que Fire firewire cdrw. I have thought about a CPU upgrade and want to add a DVD+-RW to copy projects out to DVD's instead of tapes. With the trouble of having to hack a driver in 9.2 to get a DVD unit to work - would it be easier to upgrade to OS X Tiger to get around the DVD issues and get new features but am I only going to have more issues because of the upgraded CPU. The Apple specs say OS X is not compatible with upgrades but the manufacturers of the cpu upgrades say they are. Several of the new OS X DVD units I've looked at require at least 500MHz. (I posted earlier on the OS 9 forum - my old cdrw works on a new FW equipped laptop with Tiger.) I'm trying to get some more life out of my old G4 because I can't afford to buy a new G5. Any suggestions???? Thanks

You will triple the stated clock speed, but in no way
will the machine run 3 times as fast. You'll be lucky
to notice much change at all.
Yes you're right, in real world terms the machine won't be 3 times as fast, as you're still stuck with the same 100MHz system bus and memory etc, but I think that saying you'll be lucky to notice much change at all is a little unfair.
I recently upgraded the processor in one of my Macs and the difference was very noticeable, from reduced boot/rendering/encoding times to greater all round responsiveness.
If you're moving from OS 9 to OS X and you don't upgrade the processor, I expect OS X will feel pretty sluggish in comparison, although like you say more RAM will help.

  • GX60 1AC BIOS request/help for upgraded CPU

    Hello,
I recently upgraded my GX60 with a 5750m es, running Windows 8.  Would it be smart to upgrade the BIOS to the GX60 Hitman Edition's BIOS version D0L? The Hitman Edition uses the same processor.
If so, could someone help me mod the bios, so I can have a stable system? I would like to unlock it as well. Thanks!

  • X305-Q705 - GPU and CPU upgrades possible?

    Question 1:
I know that on some models have 2 GPUs.
How can I upgrade the 9700M GTS and can I use crossfire or SLI?
    Question 2:
What is the CPU I can buy for my laptop?
    Many thanks,
    Zyon

Raver. What makes you think SLI is restricted to desktops only? There are plenty of notebooks out there with dual GPUs in SLI configuration including higher spec versions of this one. The x305-q706 has dual 9700m GTS's in SLI
This notebook will support most dual and quad Penryn processors upto QX9300. but upgrading will be trouble because the motherboard has to be removed first because there is no easy access to the CPU from underneath the notebook.
But ravers right with not needing to upgrade, It has plenty of power at the moment.

  • Why can't I install MacOSX Lion on a Mac Mini with 10.6.8, 2GB RAM, and CPU upgraded to Core2 Duo?

I have an older Intel Mac Mini running fully updated Snow Leopard with an upgraded CPU (Core2 Duo), RAM (2GB), and hard drive.
Supposedly, this should be compatible with Lion, but the App Store refuses to download it.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

It's not the graphics card it is the fact that it is an "upgraded"
system.  Lion, as with any OSX install, is based on the
original computer ID.  If the ID indicated that it was not
a model that was shipped with a CPU that meets the minimum
    requirements it will not install.
The reason I say it is not the graphics card, is that my
Macbook has that card and Lion installed without issue.  It
was, however, equipped with a Core2Duo processor.

  • L530 BIOS and CPU upgrade problems

I recently upgraded the cpu in my E520 from a 2520M to a 2760QM. Though the cpu was not officially supported, it worked perfectly without so much as a bios update. It even benchmarks above passmark's average.
Smash cut to ebay a couple weeks later where I picked up a L530 and a 3720QM in an attempt to pull the same trick on an Ivy Bridge system. I installed the new cpu and it didn't post. Just some beep errors.
After doing quite a lot of research and buying a spi programmer I have tried the following:
    Updating the BIOS (beep errors)
    Updating the microcodes (beep errors)
Flashing a coreboot rom based on the T530 (would not even power on)
And flashing a rom with all microcode related data replaced with W530 code (still booted old processor, but gave beep errors with the 3720QM)
So this leaves me with a question. What could I be missing? The sockets and chipsets are compatible. It has got to be a BIOS problem. Is there a CPU whitelist I am not aware of?
I have not really been able to find any further information and any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • MSI GX60 1AC VBIOS

    Hello,
There is at official MSI site VBIOS update for GX 3BE and GX Destroyer. As I understand its connected to 8970m and R9.

Hello, i have a HP probook 4710s, and I also make motorbike videos and general videos with a GoPro Hero 3+, and its full HD at 1080p and 60fps. My laptop can't play this. I can watch full HD videos on youtube for example, but when i try to play it on windows media player the video shatters and lags and I simply can't watch it. I found what seems to be a solution, Some people said i have to upgrade the CPU to a dual core 2.0ghz.. The problem is I don't know much about computers, so can you talk with me like a total noob, please? ANd i also need to know where I can buy the CPU and the RAM online!!!

    Hello Blackdavid.
I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure, I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums, since this is a commercial product. You can click here for the link.

  • MSI 990XA-GD55 Low FSB and CPU voltage cap

I just purchased a brand spanking new 8120 and I'm loving it right now. I've been steadily OC'ing it and have gotten it to 4.5 Only with the multiplier. I wanted to do it with my FSB but it will only go up to 225, after that it stops posting. I keep everything close to stock as i pump it up but if i go up to 226 and keep everything low it doesnt post. I thought that was fine and didnt worry about it till i saw people hitting 250+ with their MB. is it my board thats bad or am i doing something. I also cant up my voltage on my cpu past 1.4v which puts me at the 4.5 with a core temp of 50 running prime95.

Do you know you can't just up the Reference clockrate ("FSB") without modifying the HT-Link to not massively overclock the linked components.
Tom's Hardware made a basic How To for K8 which will even for FX still give an idea: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/phenom-overclock-athlon,2161.htm

  • MSI GX60 Destroyer Start up and Sound Issues

Once again I have encountered an error where after receiving a new update for Windows 8.1, I now have the issue where start up programs will no longer start up for over an hour or longer from when the system starts, as well as I can no longer turn on my sound as I constantly receive the error message "The Audio Service is not running" and anything I try will not restart it whatsoever.
I have had this issue before and due to extra issues, I have had to completely send off the system for repairs at the repair center. However, I feel that this is more being caused by the update itself, also seeming as this will be the third time within around 2-3 months I have had to send this system off, if I cannot solve it without sending the system off I will likely be seeking a refund instead due to the negative experience with this system.

Quote from: CloverSquirrel on 18-October-14, 08:40:01
Those links don't help as I already tried some of those solutions, the issue isn't that I have a slight delay, its that the programs don't load for around an hour or more at the moment. Also I still have the audio issue with the system as well and now I recently found I can no longer go into the control panel either.
Then your issue isn't related to the system not working at all. It really sounds to me that you have a virus of some kind. Do you use a virus scanner?
Do you install questionable material? (aka pirated games/software?)
The more and more that you actually go into detail about the 'problems', the more it seems to me that you've got a virus.
Lastly, you really need to do a much better job explaining what the problems are. Giving people trying to help you half the story (oh, yeah, also audio doesn't work and I can't go into control panel....) only leads to us not being able to help you. You might want to look into this to get a better idea of what information will get you a better response much quicker:
