MSI GX60 problem sata3 HDD

I have a problem with with the 500 GB hdd Hitachi Travelstar Z7K500 HTS725050A7E630 in one of the slots in the laptop GX60 (slot DVD drive). The Russian Support Center could not help and advised to contact with support center - "for the objective diagnosis of faults." Do you have any information about such kind of problems with Laptop GX60 especially  SATA 3? Or maybe, there is any solution to update the BIOS? This slot at the time of purchase worked WD5000BPVT sata 2.Also that slot been tested with SATA 3 ssd ADATA XPG SX900 128GB. And operates smoothly.
Hitachi 500GB Travelstar Z7K500 HTS725050A7E630 status -OK. And it works in the slot below the touchpad mode sata 3. But it is in that slot is reversed. What is extremely may affect its long performance.
Why in the slot under the DVD drive is a conflict with a 500GB hdd Hitachi Travelstar Z7K500 HTS725050A7E630?

  • Clean Install of Preloaded Windows 8 on HDD to SSD (MSI GX60)

    Good Morning Guys!
This is my first post here so I'll try my best to explain my problem / confusion coherently.
I recently ordered a MSI GX60 off ExcaliberPC. I haven't gotten it yet but my plan is to install a new 2.5" Cosair Force 3 120 GB SSD making it my primary hard drive and transferring the HDD to a secondary bay. I would want to use the same Windows 8 product key that came with the lappy obviously. Reason why I'm not doing a clone is because I heard that there might be some performance issues. Also want to remove all the bloatware and crapware that came with it.
So I have a few questions:
    1) Are the mounting brackets provided by the laptop or do I have to purchase them myself?
    2) I heard that the Windows 8 product key is embedded in the BIOS; which means I just have to do a clean install and it should automatically be activated? Does the same apply to Microsoft Office?
    3) In which order do it? Install SSD into primary bay, relocate HDD to secondary bay then do a clean install on SSD first and clearing out the HDD after? or clear out HDD first then do a clean install after swapping in SSD into primary bay?
    4) If the product key is indeed embedded in the BIOS, would updating the BIOS risk erasing out the key?
    5) If my laptop completely dies, is there any way to retrieve the Windows 8 product key from the BIOS?
Appreciate all the help I could get!!!

I'm trying to do a clean install of windows 8 myself and I too am confused about the license being embedded. How do I get the license for my laptop? I installed Win8 clean and now I can't seem to get it to activate.

  • MSI GX60 3BE and SSD/HDD (RAID0, height 7/9,5 mm)

    Dear Friends
Please answer the following questions, if you don't mind:
    1. Will SSD or HDD with a height of 9.5 mm will fit the MSI GX60 3BE, or only 7 mm?
    2. Is it possible to use RAID 0 with 2xHDD? Are the drivers are included on the DVD, so I can install Windows 7? As far as I know during the installation of Windows 7 you need to specify the path to the drivers for RAID?
Thank you in advance for your replies.
    Best regards.
    Sincerely

    Hi, Thanks for your reply.
But it is in fact a 2.5" SSD (no typo in my first post), but has only 7.5mm height. ((There will also be some 1.8" ssd models available in the future but I ordered the now available 2.5") ). So such an adapter will not help. For this mentioned SSD-bracket, I have to wait for my x200t being shipped (hope its coming soon) but I didn't see anything like that on any ibm/lenovo accessory page.
Edit: Kind of solved itself today when I got the SSD. It's in fact 7.5mm in height but there is a small 2mm frame mounted around it (which one could unscrew, if necessary). So in the end it's a "normal" 2.5" 9.5mm device

  • Msi GX60 (AMD Radeon 7970M Graphics PROBLEM)

Ok so I got this laptop as a gift awhile back. Ever since I have never been able to get the dedicated graphics working. The Radeon HD 7970M. I've tried disabling the integrated and the screen kinda glitches up and freezes so I just turned it off and when it was turning off it decides to configure windows (believe this happens everytime i disable it). When I turn it back on I get this amd driver error called "Graphics" and this is what it says, "No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware." I have tried doing this many many times, uninstalling and reinstalling different drivers for it and it still does not want to work. Whenever I disable the integrated the dedicate also shows this little yellow triangle in device manager. I heard the specs on the msi GX60 are pretty nice and I'd really love to use it's power, i'd very very VERY much appreciate the help! it would mean everything to me.
Oh and one more thing, in device manager when I right click on it and go to properties it says this under "Device status" Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
I'll be on all day checking this thread, I am definitely capable of giving more information if needed! i'll just need some directions

oh and ever since i got the computer brand new, windows update will not work.
    "Downloading updates..."
"Downloading 62 updates (0 KB total, 0% complete)
and it stays like this. yes I have connection to the internet, everything else can connect.
maybe it has something to do with the graphics card problem i'm having?

  • Connectivity problem with MSI GX60

    Good morning, gentlemen,
9 months ago I bought me a Steelseries MSI GX60. Everything was working quite fine, but after four months I started to have complications with my wifi, as it was saying, that I have excellent signal, but I could not load any page. When it happened first, I thought I was not careful enough and caught some sort of virus, so I checked the system with a few programs. For a week let's say everything was fine. Then I had to reinstall the system completely. Today it is the third time that my connection has been slowed or cut off. What to do, I am starting to think it's some hardware complication and not just a virus. Any help? Thank you.

relax. The most common issue that couses writers not be able write at full speed is the DMA setting. Make sure that u have DMA enabled. go to your device manager -->IDE/ATAPI controllers and make sure the IDE channel that your drive is connected is DMA enabled. Also make sure that u have connected your drives as "MASTER" in the IDE bus.
also make sure that the disks u are using are validated for 48x speed. Try using other media brand.

  • [Solved] Network problems with MSI GX60 Destroyer, killer newtork LAN and wireless

Hi, I bought a MSI GX60 Destroyer 2 weeks ago, and I realized that my internet was a little slow, you don't realize in the web but when downloading it doesn't perform how it should, I tested the speed now with wireless and I got 5 mb/s, and I have 20 mb/s in my house (I also tested with cellphones and other pc's), with LAN the speed was normal, so I saw some forums about the Killer network, I tried to change the drivers but nothing, the wireless is limited to 5 mb/s and now my LAN too.... please help, my phone has 4x better internet than my GAMING Laptop.
Also the Atheros drivers are a pain in the ass it's really hard to remove them.
I'm now with the drivers without the Management app.

    Hi Tzin,
Which graphics driver are you using?
The quick stream is installed on the notebook with the generic graphics driver from the AMD website.
If you install the AMD's generic graphics driver, you'll find the quick stream program in your Uninstall programs window.(Control Panel> Uninstall a program)
Hi hch , i only can find the "amd cystal manager " under the unintall a program , so when i click into in then only saw the device but dont see the quick stream .

I'm not extremely familiar with the GX series myself, or any of the AMD based notebooks.
    BUT....90C is rather warm IMHO.
The best I can suggest, is that if you're feeling adventurous, and have the skills, you could use the assembly guide and disassemble the laptop and replace the thermal compound on the CPU and GPU heatsinks. Then check what the temperatures are afterwards. Hopefully they go down.
If you don't feel adept at doing this, the best I can say is to contact MSI for a possible RMA.

I have this problem in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. The driver is the latest version.
3 :  How hard Ssd raid, is how to install Windows? I do whatever I want to install Windows from my driver! Where can I get the drivers?
    Thank you

Ok, I got word back from my MSI rep. Apparently, it's a limitation on the RAM that is used for the video card. Other laptops that use the HD8970M or R9 M290X that are not MSI suffer from this as well. This is an AMD goof-up, not MSI's, so don't get mad at MSI. The rep said that they tried to overclock to 1200MHz, but got BSOD's all the time. The rep assures me that the gaming experience is minimally affected (so nothing you'd notice, like 1-2 FPS difference)

I just recently built a computer.
When I turn the computer on it stops at the MSI Platinum screen.
When I hit the reset button the computer reboots into windows. (Most of the times)
    I am not over clocking.
I have loaded the defaults in the BIOS.
I have flashed the BIOS, updated all motherboard drivers, and video drivers.
I have run memtest 23 passes and no errors.
I have a thermaltake power supply 400 watts.
There are no beeps codes at post. The case didn't come with a speaker.
I have installed windows xp media center twice.
Could this just be an unresolved Bios issue or a bad board?
The computer runs great except for the startup problem.
    Any suggestion would be helpful.

Try stripping down your system to bare minimum. Disconnect all CD drives, Floppy and HDD from your mainboard. Remove all un-needed cards. So you should have only the mainboard, CPU and RAM and a graphics card. Connect PSU to mainboard and power up. Now your PSU should be more than enough to power just that. Does it still lock???
If it does'nt then it something to do with one of the drives or optional cards you are fitting.
If it  does still lock then it something to do with the main components.
I once saw a similar issue to this which maybe unrelated but thats why i asked you to disconnect drives. The issue i saw was down to the HDD not being detected on cold boot. Thus hanging the system, if you left it long enough it carried on and then failed to boot. But press the reset button and it would detect the HDD and load windows, until you switched the PC off again and the cycle would repeat. Now that was fixed by getting a BIOS update. This may not having anything to do with your issue but might be worth a look trying what i said above.

  • MSI GX60 RAID

    Hi guys!
I'm looking to change the storage configuration on my MSI GX60 Destroyer notebook. I have seen in the BIOS that there is an option for RAID instead of AHCI for storage; does anyone have any more information on this? I was thinking of the following combo
SSD 1 and SSD 2 in RAID 0 and the 1TB drive replacing the DVD drive.
Is it possible on this notebook?

RAID drivers is included in intel chipset package it does not come seperated.
To confirm that you can do RAID, then does it have 2x msata slots? if so then RAID will work on GX60 other wise it wont.

Most likely, no. Usually a different Electronic Controller is used for the non-backlit and backlit keyboards.
