MSI GX623 black screen, Afterburner and that old story

Hello. So maybe someone will know the cure for my problem. I have an MSI GX623 gaming laptop, i have it for like 3 years, i dont remember. So when i bought it I started playing games with it (because it's a GAMING laptop :D). After some time I've started to have black screen/crash problems. So because I had warranty, I gave the laptop for repairs. As I remember, they've changed GPU and cooling system. I took it back from them, hoped that the problem was in the past, but that same day I played GTA 4 and there it is again. All this was like 2 years ago. Until this day I used MSI afterburner and it helped, but sometimes the problem used to show up again, so I used to leave pc on sleep mode and it helped. Right now, I'm using a cooling pad, the afterburner for some time, like half a year. It was like a month until yesterday it all started again. Everything was fine, i turned my laptop, open LoL to play, started the match and bammm, black screen. I thought, ok, not the first time, lets just restart the laptop, open afterburner and it will be ok. Not so fast, as much as I wanted it to be ok, all day I couldn't play anything, not nba 2k14 not lol (these are the 2 games I played for like half year). Well all day I had to watch Sopranos and Prison break, no lol or nba :/ I left it on sleep mode overnight and today it's good as new, played lol, nba, it's all cool, but after some time ( the laptop wasn't shuted down for no time), a short, like few hour brake  without games, wanted to play lol and there it is again. I don't know what's wrong, the temperatures are fine, more like fine, yesterday i cleaned the inside of the laptop from dust. Everything is perfect, but it's still there. I've updated afterburner, but no help. Maybe there is some new solutions to this problem without afterburner? Thank you BTW, I use windows 7, but these days it's like xp, everyone uses them D: thx for the help )

Could be heat related. Do you know what temperature your CPU and GPU are running?
Just to be sure on the driver front, uninstall your current graphics card drivers, run >>Driver Sweeper<< to clear any driver traces, reboot and then install the ones from the MSI website: http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=nbdriver&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1702

That does not mean it's an automatic "no."

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

Quick update, the duplicate of the comic-con episode downloaded succesfully, and so has the first episode of Supernatural season 8. Blue dots appear to their left in the library.
All the Vampire Diaries episodes (except the bonus comic-con double) have vanished, but I paid for them !
They're not anywhere on my harddrive either.
Which is new by the way, this is a new MacbookPro, literally set it up today.
So it would seem this is a case of purchased and pseudo-downloaded episodes that ended up beinge gobbled up by some iTunes black hole, leaving me with no money, and no episodes.
    Need help, confirmed.

Appreciate your help Ian and others.   I have since uninstalled FCS and reinstalled FCXP only to get the same thing. Loading FCXP stalls at "Looking for Compressor Support".  When I first downloaded FCXP from the App store I didn't notice that FCS was being placed in it's own folder.  It's not something I did manually.  Although moved into it's own folder with FCXP on the same drive.  I was not able to open FCS apps. They would load and then "quit unexpectantly".  They opened just fine before I downloaded FCXP.  Do I need to purchase Compressor so that FCXP recognizes it? It seems this is where it stalls. It doesn't explain however why my computer "FREEZES" while doing this.  I am in the process of re-installing Lion to see if this helps, otherwise I am at a complete loss.

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings

  • MSI CR640 Black Screen of Death in Windows 8.1

I get a black screen after the Windows logo every time I boot up my MSI CR640. Is there a fix for this?

No and never will be as you already read in the other thread about the old issue...
Quote from: flobelix on 30-November-13, 00:54:38
As CR640 is finally considered not being eligible for Windows 8 MSI won't work on a new version to fix that as far as we know.

  • MSI GT683R Black screen, blinking cursor

Hello, I was poking around for a similar topic but couldn't find one, so here I am.
Mine is an MSI GT683 laptop; it’s about four months old and second hand. When I boot it up, I see the MSI screen, and then I see a black screen with a blinking underscore cursor.
I’m pretty sure this is my fault, because when it arrived I decided I wasn’t satisfied with how it was setup (plus it had lots of stuff left over from the previous owner) and I reformatted and reinstalled Windows 7 on it. It booted up great the last time I used it; I installed all the updates, installed all the drivers, restarted it a couple times, and it was working like a charm. I even put a couple games on it. Then I put it into hibernation and left it alone for a day, and now I have the blinking black screen cursor of evil.
This is what I’ve tried so far:
    1) I can’t get into the BIOS. When I restart, it doesn’t say “Press such and such to get into the BIOS!”, and nothing I press works (I thought MSI used Del, but in a fit of maadfobdogbd I also tried lots of other keys.) For that matter, I also can’t get into safe mode.
    2) As far as I know there’s nothing wrong with the keyboard. I can actually adjust screen brightness with it. There’s nothing connected to the computer.
    3) The Windows OS CD doesn’t work. It seems to think about using it, and whirrs around with it for a bit, but I never get anywhere other than black screen, blinking cursor. I’ve tried both Windows 7 and Windows XP, but nope.
    4) I think my Windows 7 version may be x86. However, since it was running smoothly enough, I don't really think it was an issue.
Sorry for the trouble; hope you can help!

Boot disks don't work, either. Actually, this thread here shows my exact problem, and the answer sounds pretty plausible, given how I put the laptop into hibernation. Unfortunately, that guy never got it fixed. :<
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=149961.0
I haven't gone so far as to take it apart yet. (I'm kinda leery of taking laptops apart. The last time I did it, I had to get stuff into this really awkward little space where I had no finger strength, and in the end I had to call a boy to snap the thing in for me. It was embarrassing.) I'm going to try swapping in another hard drive with Windows on it. I'll let you know how it goes.
EDIT: Alright! So it worked! Well, kinda. I got into the BIOS but it looks like my installation might be dead. I don't care a lot about the installation anyway, so while I'm going to try to fix it I may just reinstall everything... again.
I couldn’t get into the BIOS because it was apparently switched off for hibernation. What I did was that I dug up my giant box of computer parts and found an old hard drive that had Windows installed on it. I'm told that I should have swapped hard drives out (and I probably would have eventually), but just using a USB port worked for me. My laptop wouldn’t boot from a USB boot disk or from a CD, but it did find and boot from another hard drive, so I finally managed to shut it down properly.
I’m still getting black screen of blinking cursor evil, but this is progress. Still looking out for help.

  • Black screen gnome and kde, openbox fine

I installed the testing xorg a month or so back and it naturally broke my system (i use ati and fglrx). I downgraded the relevant packages and am no longer using the testing rep, but now gdm comes up fine, but logging into gnome or kde4-mod just gives me a black screen with working mouse. Openbox works fine however, i've been using that but would like to see how kde4 has progressed. Any ideas? Couldn't find anything by searching.

  • Tried to update my iphone5 and it went straight to black screen with and arrow pointing to itunes symbol. I don't have a computer and need to use my phone ASAP.

I tried to update my iPhone 5 and it went straight to. Black screen when a power cord and an arrow pointing to itunes. I googled what to do Nd it says to plug it into itunes on your computer but I no longer own a computer. I HAVE to have my phone for work and am not happy In the least with the help I've revived from Apple. I need help ASAP.

There is nothing that you can do except do what the phone is asking you to do and plug it into a computer to update it with iTunes.
I think Apple would have given you the same response too because there is nothing else that you can do - there is no other way to update the phone except by plugging it into a computer and using iTunes.
There is nothing we can do if you don't like the answers you are getting, but there is nothing else to do and it is hardly Apple's fault if you don't own a computer any longer.  Unfortunely you need a computer for this, so there is really no work aounrd.

  • Black screen iphoto and flash

Please note this question is about "black screen" in both iPhoto AND Flash.  They are linked in that the symptom appears in both - if I notice in iPhoto then I know that flash videos will also not work; and if I solve it then both are resolved simultaneously.
MacBook Pro Mid2012 OS 10.9.3  iPhoto   Firefox 30.0   (same problem in Safari)  Adobe Flash 14.0.0.125   iPhoto 9.5.1  (different specs to my apple ID because this is happening on my daughters mac book pro).  Never had this problem on my older MacBook Pro.
We have had this problems 3 times (once a month) and keep resolving it but I am not sure why or how!
Sympton:  iPhoto - thumbnails show but when clicked to show full screen the screen is black.  If the photo is flagged then the flag can be seen (in the place you would expect the top left corner of the photo to be).
Firefox - flash videos just show a black screen
Safari - flash videos do not play and suggest that flash player needs updating.  On following the link it goes to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and tries to load the page several times before displaying a long error message
    Solution:
The solution is a combination of the following.  Without understanding what the the cause is it is difficult to know which is fixing it:
1     Uninstall Flash with Adobe uninstaller   http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/support/uninstall_flash _player_osx.dmg
2     find a way to download the flash player installer file (can't remember exactly how I did this as this last time I had it in the downloads folder already))
2     Verify and Repair Disk Permissions shows the following
    Repairing permissions for “”Permissions differ on “Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Safari.help/Contents/Resources/inde x.html”; should be lrwxr-xr-x ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .Repaired “Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Safari.help/Contents/Resources/inde x.html”
    Permissions repair complete
    3     Re-install Flash
4     Restart at every available opportunity
I have in the past also repaired the disk and used iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the iPhoto library but these are lengthier and don't seem necessary.
Any ideas on what is causing both flash and iPhoto to fail at the same time so that we can fix the underlying problem very much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Paul

A simpler fix now - but I am still not sure of the cause - might be a faulty hard disk - but this doesn't make sense in that it always seems to be related to Safari - so is there a malfunction with Safari.
This morning - same problem fixed by repairing permissions with the disk utility. then a shutdoen and restart.    Log says:
    Repairing permissions for “”Permissions differ on “Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Safari.help/Contents/Resources/inde x.html”; should be lrwxr-xr-x ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .Repaired “Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Safari.help/Contents/Resources/inde x.html”Group differs on “Library/Printers/InstalledPrinters.plist”; should be 80; group is 0.Permissions differ on “Library/Printers/InstalledPrinters.plist”; should be -rw-rw-rw- ; they are -rw-r--r-- .Repaired “Library/Printers/InstalledPrinters.plist”
    Permissions repair complete
Is this a hard disk malfunction or a safari issue?  All ideas gratefully received.

  • Black Screen with cursor that doesn't move! Help!

Hi, a few months ago my family encountered a problem when we started up our laptop and it prompted us that our laptop failed to start. As usual, I just pressed "Launch Startup Repair". That lead us to a black screen with nothing else but a cursor
    that DOES NOT move.
We put the laptop aside as none of us knew the resolution and somebody we knew might have been able to fix it, but unfortunately to this day he hasn't been over to help us out. Our laptop is still in the same state and we're very eager to get it working
without having to spend lots of money at a computer specialist.
    Our specifications are as following:
     Toshiba Satellite A660
    Intel Core i5 CPU M 450
    2.40GHz
    4096 MB Memory
I am unable to get other specifications such as Video Card and Graphics Drivers as I cannot access the desktop.
Any fixes? We are very desperate to get this computer working.
< Disclaimer > We do have another PC in the household if that is necessary for the fix. Thank you.

    Hello PamelaMay,
    What is your current situation?
Have you tried the solution as MVP Robear Dyer  mentioned?

  • Major Problem With Black Screens, Restarts, and Artifacts.

    1. HP m7790y
    2. Vista 32-bit
    3. No error messages or BSOD.
    4. No changes were recently made.
For about a month now, sometimes my computer will display a bunch of artifacts on the screen and the visuals won't change, but I think my mouse and keyboard still work. I can do CTRL + ALT + DELETE and that screen pops up with no artifacts, but as soon as I get out of it, the artifacts come back and the escape sequence doesn't work again. If I have a video going or music, I can still hear it for a bit, but then it gets screwed up. Then my computer does something that is like shutting off, but it isn't. The GPU's fan stops going, the screen goes black, and only the power light on my pc is on. Most of the time I have to push in the power button, and then turn it back on again. Sometimes it restarts on its own, and displays a screen asking me how I want to start up.
I've used the HP Hardware Diagnostic Tools and tested everything, but there were no errors for anything. I can even play video games for long periods of time just fine (Rome: Total War, The Walking Dead, Mass Effect 3, Company of Heroes). If the problem is going to happen, it happens within the first 5-10 minutes of me having the computer on. I've even used Furmark with stress tests and there are no problems.
    This question was solved.

    Hello mpthemaster,
The issue you are experiencing is related to the video card, but we need to figure out if the problem lies within the hardware or the software.
Software is the easiest to rule out so let's start there. Your video card has drivers installed on the computer we need to uninstall the drivers that are there and reinstall new drivers to see if the issue goes away.
    1. Navigate to the link below and download the drivers for your video card do not install just yet
    http://goo.gl/dBmyj
    2. Click on start and then type "Device Manager" in the start search box (without the quotes)
    3. Open Device Manager and expand the display adapters section
    4. Right click on your video card driver and say uninstall
    5. Press the win key the right arrow twice and the letter R and your computer should reboot
    6. After it reboots Windows will load a generic driver for the video card
This may or may not work. If everything on the computer looks fine (things are not blown up out of proportion and you are able to adjust settings) see if the issue comes back.
If the issue comes back or the generic drivers didn't allow you to use the monitor properly then install the link you downloaded earlier and again test to see if the artifacts come back.
The computer you have comes with a choice in video cards. Which video card do you have installed? Does it sound loud?
While you are at you might as well clean out your computer and make sure it's not dirty or dusty. Check all your fans and ensure each are in working condition and there is adequate air flow for the machine. Especially check the fan on the GPU and make sure it's not dirty or getting clogged.

  • Black screen problem and file size

Like others I have been having trouble with importing from iPhoto to iMovie. At times everything works just fine but on my most recent project I have been having a terrible time with the preview screen being black. I have used this discussion forum to try and resolve the problem. I've tried many of the recommedations but the problem continues.
In one thread it was mentioned that file size might have something to do with the problem. I think there may be something to this. I've noticed that any file that is 1MB or less shows just fine in the preview window. Files between 1-2 MB seem to have an erratic pattern of loading and files above 2 will hardly ever load.
Unfortunately I seem to have a lot of photos in the latter category (taken on a recent trip to New Zealand). I'm hoping someone can give me some hints on how to reduce the size of these files in a "batch" fashion. Perhaps via Photoshop?
Also, has anyone else noticed any connection between file size and the black screen problem.
    Thanks.

    Matti,
Thanks for the reply but that isn't the problem I'm having. I've read plenty about not emptying the trash and have not done that.
The problem I'm having happens before the picture is even put in the timeline. When I click on media, go to iphoto and highlight a picture that I want to place in the timeline I will get a black preview screen with the scrubber arrow running across the bottom. Through a rather tedious process I think I have determined that the problem is related to file size. If the jpeg file is greater than 3MB it will not load. Jpeg files under 1MB load wonderfully. Those between 1-2MB are erratic in whether they load or not.
