MSI GX630 CPU upgrade help

I recently ordered a Turion ZM-86 CPU to replace my current Athlon X2 QL-62.  I know this is a compatible CPU.
I got the CPU in the mail today and opened my GX630 up and installed the new piece.  The chip fit in perfectly.  I applied some thermal paste to it and put it back together.  After it was all back together, the computer wouldn't boot back up.  The power light wouldn't even go on.  So i stuck my old Athlon back in and now its up and running again.
Why won't it boot with the new CPU in?  The only thing I could come up with by searching is I need to update my BIOS.  Also, when i try to run the live update to search for new BIOS on Internet explorer I get the message "LOnline.exe has stopped working" and my only option is to close the program.  I tried manually finding a BIOs but i'm having trouble with it.
SO, why isn't the new CPU working, and if it is a BIOS issue, please help me find the right version I need.  Maybe its just a faulty CPU?
THANKS A LOT FOR THE HELP!
edit: I ran a program and found out my BIOS version is E1652NMS 1.08  and the date is 2/5/2009... so it's not THAT old.

Okay, I updated my BIOS to the latest version, then tried to use the processor again.. it still didn't turn on although i noticed a very very faint light go on on the power light for an instant then it went out when i hit the power button.
Any other ideas as to why this isn't working before I try to get a replacement CPU from the seller?

  • MSI GX623 CPU upgrade experience anyone?

    Hi, guys!
I have GX623 with Intel P7350 CPU. I'm thinking about CPU upgrade...
Does anyone have tried to upgrade to CPU to T.... series, X..... series or even Q.... ? If yes, how laptop handles temperature? Because of bigger TDP it increases quite a lot? Cooling can handle It when running games and stressing GPU? How about support? Which bios is required? Maybe something else?
And I want to share some experience with you as well, as I'm using this laptop for year or so. I have HD4670m GPU. If your not playing games all the time (And I'm not), try switching to power saving mode for GPU in both plug-ed and unplug-ed scenarios in ATI Catalyst comand center. Since then my laptop, is a lot more quiet and cooler (therefore saving power) when multitasking at home or watching youtube etc... When gaming just push Eco button in gaming mode and - bang full GPU stress in no-time. OK, bit offpic but I was too lazy to create new one.

  • Msi gx700 cpu upgrade

    hi
my notebook is a bit old now GX700 non tribal)
and i would like to upgrade the cpu
current cpu is 2 GHZ core 2 800mhz FSB
can this notebook run cpus with 1066 FSB speed?
i did do a search on this forum there is a similar msg posted but it said something about creating a new thread if i wanted a reply.
1 reply on the old thread said Ask msi for qvl list:
but i cant update details it wont let me and cant use support at all.
    please help.

Upgrading a notebook cpu is a gamble. If it is a newer cpu never originally used in that notebook series chances are close to zero. Notebooks aren't desktop boards made to support various cpus users might put on it. Ask MSI if the desired cpu is supported first before wasting money: >>How to contact MSI.<<

  • MSI GX630 CPU problem

    Hi,
I've the GX630 notebook with CPU AMD X2 Ultra ZM-80. The CPU is changing frequancy {in the range of 500 - 2100Mhz}. This causes problems with games, HD video and the mouse which came with the notebook. When set on hig performance in Vista 64bit or 32bit it changes only between 1000-2100Mhz. I know that AMD's have these abilities, but it should be possible to turn it of. Till now I spent a lot of time and also money to try to solve my problem, of course if it is a problem... I contacted online support - they couldn't help me. Then I send it to the local warranty service in the Czech republic and they couldn't help me either.
Is it then a problem or is the processor up? Has anybody else this problem?
And could I also please get a response from some official MSI technician whos into the subject and tell me if it is ok.
    Thanx.
    P.S.: I use CPU-Z v1.48 (freeware) to chceck the CPU-speed

The thing is, that AMD's PowerNow! actually should work this way (and it is good so, because of temp), but not when set on Max. Performance.
Check latest BIOS (maybe your unit was shipped with very old one), do the EC reset and then try to make your own power management rule with all set on performance.
Also, you can try play with tools like AMD Power Monitor Version 1.2.3, which is able to change power management modes thru right click on tray icon, or AMD OverDrive. Even when GX630's chipset isn't AMD/ATi, the CPU stuff should work in OverDrive, I believe.
But be careful, running on high temperatures for long time could make significant damage your laptop!

  • MSI GX70 to Richland CPU Upgrade

    Hi
My GX70 Notebook is now getting too slow for some of the finest newest Games, for example Dead Rising 3 runs with 9-12 Frames, Assassins Creed Black Flag 12 frames, Need for Speed Rivals 3-10 frames, and Sleeping Dogs is not playable (1-8 frames).
All other games till 2013 are fine, but these brandnew games are just a little bit too hardware hungry. And I guess the new Assassins Creed games which are released this fall, won`t run fine too and will stutter around with 9-13 frames.
This has nothing to do with the graphics settings, because no matter how high or how low I set the graphic options, the framerate does not change (from ultrahigh to low settings maybe +2 frames) so the problem is not a GPU issue.
The slow outdated AMD A10-5750, 4x2,4 GHz CPU completely bottlenecks the very fast and impressive Radeon 8970 graphics chip, and therefore I want a better CPU for up to date gaming performance.
So I`d like to know if it is possible to insert this great CPU into my Notebook, the AMD A10-6800k Richland (AD680KWOHLBOX) for socket FM2 and 100 watts power consumption, and 4x4,1 GHz.
    Impressive, huh? :D
Double the clock - double the fun, this should solve all the lagging problems and will make these extreme slow running games fully playable:
    http://www.heise.de/preisvergleich/amd-a10-6800k-ad680kwohlbox-a950987.html
Can I just buy this CPU and put it into my GX-70 Notebook?
Is the power supply strong enough for 100 watts CPU?
Will the CPU clock really be 4x 4,10 Gigahertz?
Will a BIOS update be necessary after inserting the new CPU? (I am really really afraid of flashing the BIOS, I bricked a Galaxy S3 mobile phone before, I really DON`t want to flash my notebook BIOS!)
I am sorry because of my stupid questions, but I have never before built or modified a notebook, I build tower PCs till 2010 and the GX70 is my second Notebook.
Thanks for your help and answers!
    Kind regards,
    Mystique

well i dont think so most gaming laptops lately have soldered CPU to motherboard which means you cannot change cpu chip :/ but if you could then you would need to find a manual that tells you what type of cpu's are supported but i dont think GX70 has support for cpu upgrade due to it's cpu is soldered to the motherboard.
I can be wrong since i tried to google up GX70 motherboard found diffirent motherboards most of them had nothing todo with a MSI laptop lolz so yeah correct me if i'm wrong.

  • AMD Athlon 64 3800+ cpu upgrade to AMD Athlon 64 X2

    Hello everyone,
First of all, I have been to cpu-upgrade.com and typed in my current (CPU)--> AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.40GHz (motherboard)--> ASUS A8M2N-LA (Naos) GL6.
According to the website, my AM2 Socket (940pin) is capable of upgrading to a Dual Core, Anyone know if that site is accurate or not? Any help would be nice. I need to get away from this single core.
    1) Some CPU models require a BIOS upgrade, which a BIOS upgrade for this board is not available.
    2) A lot of X2 Dual Cores work either using a 4400+, 4600+, and so on....
I do have a 550watt PSU installed, also I am using MSI Nvidia GeForce GT620 PCI-express 16x graphics, not using onboard.
I have read that some BIOS' upgrades terminate the onboard video, is that true? Basically, whatever I already have installed is current and up to date with all video/sound drivers, etc... If anybody very knowledgable knows for sure if an AMD Athlon 64 X2 will work in my system that would be nice. My specs below......
OS: Windows Vista Home Basic (32bit)
    CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.40GHz
    RAM: 2GB (GDDR2)
PSU: 550watt (all 20+4 for main cable to motherboard connected using all 24 pins + 4pin connector for CPU? I believe.
Sound: Realtek HD ALC888 High Definition Audio
Video: MSI Nvidia GeForce GT620 (GDDR3 with 2GB Video Memory).
Only thing I am bottle necking on is the CPU, and I would love to upgrade to Dual Core, once again, thank you for the help.

  • MSI GX630 Small issues

    Hey guys,
So I have a MSI GX630. I love this laptop. Its been amazing to me for the month I have had it. I just have a small question.
My problem is that I am having issues playing league of legends. I don't have problems playing any other games at all! I just started playing Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning and it plays flawlessly!!!! But for some reason League of legends does not like my laptop. I get FPS drops even though the graphics requirements are way low. Even if I drop my settings in game down to low it still happens. I have read that League has issues with AMD processors and there timing issues. I have installed AMD CPU fix that is SUPPOSED to help with the timing issues. But it did not help. I tried setting the affinity of the game to run off of one processor but that did not do it. Does anyone have any ideas what would fix this? I have most recent BIOS and NVIDIA drivers installed. Any ideas? Thanks in advance guys!

...If your 3500 is a 90nm San Diego core, there's really nothing new for you there.
If it's an earlier core, though, you might have difficulty in supporting all four 512mb DIMMs at 200/400MHz.  The San Diego 3700+ core I just bought to replace my 130 nm A64 4000+ has the same 1mb L2 cache as the A4000+ it replaced, but an improved memory controller which will support 4 double-sided 512mb DIMMs in this motherboard at full speed of 400MHz DDR.  The 3700+ is 90nm, and is simply generally a better core in terms of errata, power consumption, and, if you ever feel the need to experiment, overclocking.  I would imagine you should be able to pick one up at < 200 pounds, your cost (my keyboard doesn't have a "pound" key...)
My last post in the thread mentions what bios version you should run with this cpu.
Also, unlike the Newcastle or Winchester A3500+ cores, the A3700+ San Diego 90nm core supports SSE3 intructions.  Here's an article you might care to read describing some differences between the A3500+ Newcastle and Winchester cores:
    http://www.hothardware.com/viewarticle.aspx?articleid=613&cid=1
Here's a current link to the 3700+ cpu for sale:

Many thanks for your reply, much appreciated. However a lot of that has just gone right over my head I'm afraid :(
Do I have to strip the PC to find out which processor I have? The invoice I still have for the PC does not state what type it was. This was not a home built PC and was purchased from an online store in the UK.
I have a list from the MSI site of processors that this MB is supposed to take. Am I right in saying that I could install an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Skt939 2.4Ghz 512KB Processor?
Once again many thanks for your help.
    Gazza.

  • No post after CPU upgrade?

    Hi
I upgraded my processor to a XP1700+ In an Msi K7T266 Pro2 Mb It had the older Athlon 1 Gig CPU. After I installed it all I would get is 3 lights on the D bracket and no monitor or post. I have already updated the BIOS before the CPU upgrade. I have an Antec 430 true power PSU, cleared CMOS, doublechecked Heatsink and all connections still wont post (not even a beep code) Installed old CPU and Viola it booted fine has anybody ran into this? Another post said something about a modification needed on this board to support the newer 0.13 micron CPU,s but the post never reached a conclusion if so is there a way around this?
Thank you in advance for your help.............

    Go bare bones.
    1) Disconnect everything.  IDE cables, FDD cable, take out all PCI cards, only leave videcard  :P .
    2) Clear CMOS (you may have to remove battery or switch PC on/off without plugged in to discharge capacitors).
PC should post now.  If it doesn't post I wonder if CMOS is really cleared.  Assuming CPU XP 1600 is okay (have you checked?) it means that BIOS doesn't recognise CPU.  Did you flash with correct version?

  • CPU upgrade on Satellite L30-101

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite L30-101. I've upgraded the RAM successfully to 2GB (2x 1GB) but I'm finding it incredibly hard to get information on processor replacements.
The laptop has the latest BIOS on it (3.10-WIN - 19/02/08) but when trying to find information regarding whats in it I'm hitting brick walls. Firstly the site > http://www.toshiba-tro.de/biosinfo/ < doesn't have my laptop on it,
    Product Type: Notebook
    Family: Satellite
    Product Series: Satellite L Series
    Model: ? unknown
    Short Model No: ? unknown
I did hope I could stick an Intel Duo in but with the ATI chipset, I'm pretty sure it wont work but again without knowing whats within BIOS, compatible.. I'm lost. The only processor I can find which may work, same package, FSB, socket is an Intel Core Solo Processor T1350 which kicks out 1.86 GHz, not a massive difference and I'm sure it can't be the only replacement option.
Could someone and staff please help me with getting hold of BIOS info and compatible processors for my laptop. The current Intel Celeron M Processor 410 kicking out 1.46 GHz isn't good enough for Vista (cert on laptop) and basic multi tasking. Its lagging way too much even after a good tune up, ram upgrade, HD upgrade to 7200RPM. I'm in need of a processor upgrade but as mention finding it incredibly hard to obtain information of which would be compatible.
    Sincerely,
    Gourcuff

    Hello
In my opinion your attempt to replace CPU is wrong. Why? Satellite L30 is not designed to offer some fabulous performance and it is designed for everyday usage. Best evidence for this was the price. It was not so expensive.
Can you please tell us why do you want to have new CPU? Do you use some special software?
Back to CPU replacement. As you probably know mobile computers have limited upgrade options and it is related to RAM and HDD upgrade. It is definitely unprovided for CPU upgrade and it is not supported. Specific design, especially cooling system is designed for certain CPU.
Due to all this you will not be able to find any relevant info about CPU replacement.
Check please this Toshiba document - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm
