  • How to format a msi gx660

I have recently bought an msi gx660 but if in the future i will need to format how i can do???I can boot up winows 7 by a pendrive format and install windows 7 or i must use the recovery mode at the boot???

Quote from: Stu on 07-January-11, 02:40:00
You can delete all partitions and use the whole disk if you want, its up to you.
But if you delete partitions you lose whatever data is on them. And if you remove the BIOS_RVY and SYSTEM partitions, then the recovery won't work anymore.
Anyway, if you don't need to reinstall Windows yet, just leave things as they are and don't worry about it.
Ok it's all clear now thx

  • MSI GX660, help for dissassembly

    Hi,
First of all, I'm french, I'll do my best to explain my problem but it's not easy in english.
I have a MSI GX660 (bought it one year ago) and it seems that there is a lot of dust (dont know if it's the good word :o) on the air outlet (?). I saw the dissassembly guide, but I'm REALLY scared to do that.
Could you give me some clues to do it without damaging the PC ?
Is it risky to do that alone ?
Thx a lot, and sorry for my bad english.

Ah sorry, I didn't understood your answer. That was i was thinking about, but i dont want to wait weeks for my computer :/

this is not a problem they will just run at 1066, it makes no sense to buy/fit 1066 when it is the same price as 1333

WEI is pretty useless, the two ratings you refer to are supposed to be seperate.

  • MSI GX660, Power Input Broken, How To Use Warranty? OCC Doesn't Reply

Quoting what I wroteto OCC (Online Customer Service)
    Quote
    Power Input Broken, MSI GX660
Last September I bought an MSI GX660 laptop/notebook. A few weeks ago, I had problems charging it, as I had to adjust the alignment of the cable to get it to charge. The case got worse and worse, until it stopped charging completely last week. I have tried using another MSI charger, and it still does not charge, so I assume that the error is that the input for power has broken. How do I proceed with getting my notebook repaired on warranty?
It's been a week now, and no reply. I'm getting pretty damn mad about having a very good computer which is perfectly functional except for the fact I can't power it. Even more mad am I becoming at the fact that this should very well be included in the warranty, but MSI give very scarce information of how to use this warranty, thus disallowing me from getting my computer repaired. What I've managed to figure out is that I need this to be deemed by an MSI engineer or something as a valid case, and then I get a ticket which I can use when I send my computer to the nearest repair central, but how the hell am I supposed to get this warranty ticket? I thought it was through OCC?
Can anyone please help before I buy a plane ticket and personally shoot the one who arranged customer support in this extraordinarily stupid way? How am I supposed to make use of my warranty, and what have I understood wrong? Thanks on beforehand.
EDIT: Looked through another thread, where I found this link. http://support.msi.eu/en/contact.php
I have never seen that site before, and wonder why it can't be accessed from the main MSI webpage!
Since I live in Sweden, am I support to contact the given company in order to get my warranty, or is there a step inbetween with msi that I have to take?

Excuse the threath, it was supposed to be a joke. I just found the information given on how to handle the situation to be very scarce and insufficient. It made me frustrated, and I joked about how frustrated I was. I will refrain from such actions.
I called the company representing MSI repairs today, and found out that they were in fact the ones to contact, something not made very clear on the MSI website. I sent in a report, they accepted it, and my laptop is on the mail now. So much (unneccessary) waiting could've been skipped with better info.
About the error, I assure you that it is no act of violence that caused it. I only had the charger plugged in while the computer was placed on a table, and always transferred the computer in a belkin laptop backpack, with the charger in a separate storage on the bag. I can't see how any physical trauma/extensive pressure could've occured, especially since the problem kind of sneaked up on me. I have no idea how this issue was caused (production error seems somewhat unlikely, as you mentioned, but could still be a posibility), but it certainly was not because of me. Most apparently the repairing company saw it the same way as me as they accepted my warranty repair request, and that's really all that matter to me right now.
The point of this thread was however help with contacting warranty, support, etc. and I managed to figure that out by myself, even though you didn't really answer to that question. Thanks for your reply and your time, though.

  • Is RAID configuration possible on MSI GX660 266NE gaming laptop

[ ERROR: SPECIFIED ATTACHMENT MISSING ] Hello
I have a GX660 266NE laptop that came installed with a single harddrive. I have now replaced it with 2 Kingston SSDNow 240 GB SSD harddrives. I have also flashed BIOS to the latest on MSI support that includes the option for RAID configuration. In BIOS I have enabled RAID but when I save this BIOS configuration I do not get the option to press ctrl+I to enter Intel Rapid Storage Tech RAID configuration.
Any ideas of what i am missing? or is it simply not possible to make RAID running on this laptop?
Thanks in advance and english it not my native language so excuse me for any misspelling and not correct sentences :-)

  • MSI GX740 BSOD Help.

    Hi,
I recently received my GX740 I7 720M from ncix. The laptop runs good except a rare BSOD that seems to occur during gaming. It's happened once during Starcraft 2, once in World of Warcraft and another time when I was asleep with a movie playing, frequency is about once a day. The only modifications I have made is deleting some bloatware and flashing vbios to lower temperature. Also the crashed happens before and after updating HD5870 drivers to ATI's newest drivers. Here are the whocrashed and window's recovery dump files.

  • To all MSI gx660 and gx640 or gx740 users / starcraft 2 performance

    Hi.
I got my gx660 a month ago, first game i installed was starcraft 2. I was pretty shocked with the performance, the gx660 can't handle the game at all. I'm forced to play on low and the frames drop in 1v1 maxed out army battles below 20. I have no idea if it's just me or if this notebook just can't handle this game.
I'd be thankfull for some feedback from other users and for some ideas how to solve this problem.

I tried reinstalling multiple times, I even formatted and reinstalled windows.
Making a video out of the issue won't really help, I was hoping i could get some feedback from people playing sc2 on gx660, gx640 or gx740.
Maybe, the gx660 i5-480m version is just unable to handle a game such as starcraft 2, which leads me to think that calling it the gaming version isn't the fairest thing to do.
Do you use any AV software?
Have you tried to clear current VGA drivers in "Safe Mode" with >>Driver Sweeper<<
then to install VGA drivers from MSI web for your notebook: http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GX660.html#/?div=Driver&os=All
    and to retest?
Also have you tried it without Turbo? If yes does the issue persist

I didn't asket exactly for 1.0F but in 1st question i told that is my original version.
you should told them which bios version you are looking for,
as stock bios versions varry per models.

So, you reccomend to swap CPU, Ram , Video card with others to try if it could works?
    Yes eventually

Can anyone give me 1.0F Bios for my GX660 and what is hiw auto recovery name so i can try blind flash/recovery ?
    attached it below
but for recovery name is unknown.
    you can try names: AMIBOOT.ROM , E16F1IMS.ROM
placed over FAT/FAT32 USB key, and use this procudure: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=134435.msg1009999#msg1009999
just use your bios file names.
other option is to desoldier to bios chip, then to repprogram it and resoldier back
[assume your NB has no warranty]

  • Msi GX660R BSOD/GSOD

I just recently purchased this computer, everything worked fine until i ran 3d mark vantage on it and it gave me the GSOD apparently common with the radeon hd5xxx series. I read up on some other forums such as the asus forums who are experiencing the same issue as i am, so i know it has nothing to do with the stability of the computer, but directly related to the graphics card. i know that msi has a vbios fix for these cards but its for the gx740 and not for my gx660. i didnt want to try it even though the people on the asus forums flashed their gpu with this msi vbios which fixed the problem for them. I am running the original radeon drivers and catalyst provided for me by msi's driver disk. it is still the latest version on their website offered for my laptop.
i just want to make sure its not a faulty card for which im going to have to send my laptop to msi to get fixed. as this only happens when im using 3d intensive applications as it hangs and i must hard reset the laptop. hopefully a release of new drivers or a vbios update from msi will resolve my issue.

Doubt, as if such issue exist there will be related fix available for it.
Also no other cases are recorded.
So probably its particular issue for your unit only.
