MSI GX70 freezes when switching GPU

Hi,
I'm getting more and more freezes on my MSI GX70 lately.
The freezes happen when I switch (alt+tab or Windows button) between Windows and the game World of Warcraft.
The pc is not completely stuck, Skype continues in the background but it doesn't respond to any input on the keyboard or mice. The screen remains black. I think this is related to switching gpu's (small one for Windows and big one for the game)
Is there anyone else with the same problem or feedback on where to start looking?
I'm running Windows 8.1 with all drivers from the MSI website. Bios and firmwares are up-to-date too.
Thank you.
Britt

This has always been an issue with World of Warcraft, even more so with ATI/AMD video cards.
I haven't played since before Cataclysm days, but it wouldn't surprise me if this still existed today. I had many problems back then with my 5870.
Have you tried using the latest video drivers from AMD? I know that they are buggy, but that might be your best bet.
I would also suggest checking AMD's forums to see if other users have the same problem with the mobile graphics that you are using.

  • IPhone 4S Safari freezes when switching tabs

    Hi.
Mobile Safari in my iPhone 4S freezes when switching tabs.  This does not happen every time Safari is running, but it happened one too many already.  Safari freezes even if I only have one tab and wanted to create a new one.  The app would usually freeze while doing the switch, tho it also froze just before the tabs switch.  Has anyone experienced the same?  Please help.  Thank you.

User troubleshooting after a reset is a restore. First from a backup and if that doesn't help, then as a new device. Remember a restore will delete data from the phone. Make sure you have everything backed up and synced to the computer before attempting the restore. If that does not help, make an appointment with the Apple Genius Bar to check for hardware faults.

  • Getting the "beach ball" freezes, when switched to Intel 330 120gb SSD in my blackbook (2006, C2D, 10.6.8)

Getting the "beach ball" freezes, when switched to Intel 330 120gb SSD in my blackbook (2006, C2D, 10.6.8).
But switching to Crucial M4 SSD, everything is just fine & great~
    Any genius, know why?
Do I need to enable TRIM for Intel 330 SSD (Sandforce)?
    THX for help!!
    Info:
    MacBook (Black, 2006, C2D, GMA950, 4gb Ram, OSX 10.6.8)
-Both tried clone OS & clean install OS

I just installed a 120 GB 330-series Intel SSD in my late-2008 aluminum MacBook and I have experienced the beachball problem on a fresh install of Lion and a fresh install of Mountain Lion. I never saw this behavior with my old Western Digital 500 GB HDD. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to avoid the "freezes" associated with the 330-series SSDs?

  • IMovie HD freezes when switching between views.

I am in the process of completing my latest movie in iMovie HD and am having some major issues when I attempt to change views to add audio. The program runs fine when I am in the scene view, but when I click on the "filmstrip" icon at the bottom to view the audio tracks the "rainbow" circle appears and iMovie changes to the wonderful "iMovie is not responding" status.
    Help please!!!

I am using iMovie HD, version 6.0.3, and have the same type of problem except mine freezes when I am in the middle of adding photos to the project. I spent 4 hours on the phone yesterday speaking with various techs with good intentions but no successful resolutions. Some of what we tried...running "utility, repair disc", we then tried deleting the cache files associated with iMovie HD plus a few other items. None of it has solved my problems. According to the last tech I spoke with, the next step may be creating another profile on the computer and try using the program with it. If this solves the problem, then the issue is with conflicts in the "original" profile being used. The only issue with this that seems to be a bit painful is that with the new profile, I won't have access to everything I saved under the old profile. I will have to copy all of the files externally and then import them back into the new profile. I am hoping to find the "real" solution before attmpting this. In the meantime, when I make changes/additions to my iMovie HD projects, I hit save after every change/addition. This makes things easier when I restart the program. Let me know if you have any luck or find a good fix. This one is getting on my nerves. This type of problem is why I dumped my PC for a Mac!! Out of curiosity, how long have you had this problem? Mine started after downloading the "Intel processor" update. Maybe it is just coincidental????

  • Why does my iTunes store keep freezing when switching iTunes stores?

I have an account in both the Canada store and the U.S. store (I buy U.S. iTunes cards for use as some shows do not come to Canada until nearly a year after its U.S. store release). However, and don't ask why I haven't posted about this earlier I noticed for the past month or two when I switch from one to the other, my iTunes freezes completely forcing me to Force Quit it and restart. It will then be in the store I was switching into (from Canada to U.S. or vice versa) but it still had to freeze and be re-opened before I could access it. Is there any reason this might be happening? I feel like it might've happened after the most recent update because it did not used to do this. I have the latest iTunes update 11.1.3 (8).
    Thanks for anyone's help.

  • Video freezes when switching from window mode to full screen mode

I have seen repeatedly that when I play a video (downloaded via iTunesU) and try to switch to the fullscreen view, the video freezes at the frame I hit "fullscreen" on. The audio, and the file, however, continue to play but the video is frozen. To fix this, I have to keep hitting Pause/Play for the video to resume. It also happens when I go back to windowed mode.
    Any solutions?

Same problem, as soon as I 'upgraded' to 9.03.15. At first I thought it was only a problem with older videos, but as I checked out videos, even a recently downloaded TV show exhibits the problem. Some videos, however, work fine? If I play around with a problem video until I get a green screen I can get it to work.

I partial fix this problems remove the driver from pacman and install a downgrade version 285.05 from nv website. http://www.nvidia.es/object/linux-displ … er-es.html
    anyone with same problem?

yes, it's same like me. Only i can work with a 285.05 version from scratch. I have investigated and i think that there is a problem with lastest drivers with Geforce 9xxx series. Also i see other problems, slow scroll on websites navigation and other problems with compiz.

  • PS CC - Cursor freezes when switching apps

When working on large documents, the cursor freezes for 8-10 sec when I switch from PS to another app/finder. It also happens when I switch back to PS. 8-10 sec. of complete freeze out until everything starts working again.
Is there something I can do to solve this annoying problem?
MacBook Pro 15" Retina display / 16 GO RAM (80% allocated) / Primary scratch HD (optical 1.5TB USB), Secondary 80GB SSD disk space
    Thanks!
    Pierre-Étienne

Pierre, I am not a Mac user, and I was absolutely thinking it was insuficient system specs when reading your post, but you should be having no problems with that system.   How many apps do you have open?  I am not entirely sure on what you are saying about your Scratch disk.  Is it on the boot drive or a secondary drive?   80Gb free space is maybe a bit low, and it does sound like you are having to wait while Photoshop is shuffling data.  If it were a desktop system I'd suggest adding drives, but that is not doable if you already have two drives in your Mac Book.
With Windows we can open Task Manager and see what processes are using system resources on a percentage basis, and know where the bottle-neck is.  Do you have a similar feature with Mac?  I would hope a Mac user comes along to help out, so I am at least bumping your thread.

  • Macbook Pro Unibody 2008 freezes when switching video cards

I hava a Macbook Pro unibody late 2008 running Snow Leopard and I have noticed that whenever I switch from one video card to another the system completely freezes after a while. It does not happen while doing something specific or intensive. It seems to be completely random. I have searched in forums and found out that other users are experiencing the same issue but I have found no solution yet. Does anyone know of some way to fix this?

    Try resetting your computer's SMC:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If that doesn't resolve the issue, you may want to download and install AppleJack, a free, open-source utility that runs in Single User Mode and that has sorted out occasional problems with sleep, failure to shut down, etc. on my machines.

  • MBP Late 2009 Freezing when switching from app to app (i.e. Safari to iTunes)

For the first time yesterday, my MBP Late 2009 started giving me the spinning color wheel for about 1-2 minutes when I would switch from application to application (Safari, to iTunes) So I held the power button to shut it down, and when I turned it back on it just stayed at the blue screen.  THen when I finally got it back on, my desktop background was gone and now I can't open my Microsoft Word, it automatically shuts down saying there was an error.  Please, any help would be GREAT!

Tried it, and it wont work. Now my computer won't even shut down....any other solutions?
Have you tried force quitting the Finder?  Doing this will force your computer to restart.  If this works try -
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
If the above does not work and you have Apple Care, call them.  Otherwise, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • ITunes freezing when switching to podcasts

    iTunes 12.0.1.26
    Yosemite 10.10.1
I am running iTunes 12.0.1.26 on my MacBook Air (OS X Yosemite 10.10.1). I can easily switch back and forth between music, movies, TV shows and apps, but whenever I try to go to my podcasts, I get the color wheel of doom and iTunes eventually closes. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, any ideas on resolving the issue?
    Thanks,
    Matt

Same for a friend of mine who's at his wits end. Here's what he writes:
When I connect the iPhone to my USB outlet (I am running Windows XP), Photoshop Downloader launches immediately. After the photos are downloaded, I find that iTunes has completely frozen. It doesn't respond to any mouse clicks and I have to do control-alt-click to close it down. This happens whether iTunes was running before I connected the iPhone or not. I think the problem is the iPhone, since my iPod still syncs normally with iTunes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes. I have turned the computer on and off. I have reset all settings on the iPhone. I have in fact tried every suggestion on the Apple site.

  • Computer freezes when switching to discrete Graphics Card.

Hi! I have a W530 with the K1000M graphics card, along with the Nvidea Optimus program. Whenever I run a program that uses my discrete graphics card, I get the error "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered." I've used my discrete graphics card before with no problems, although my computer has had two major changes since the last time I've used it (see notes below).
Solutions I've tried: Updating with the correct drivers through Windows Update (update failed), updating driver through Lenovo website (broke display), updating drivers through Nvidea website (driver installed, didn't fix problem). Nothing works, and the Lenovo driver basically disabled my display. It took me hours to fix just that-- for some reason, whenever I crash, my computer looks at drive X instead of C. Had to screw around for a while just to let me do a system restore.
I'm rather upset about the whole thing because I really like my laptop. Right now, I've just set Optimus to never use the discrete graphics card...
    Thanks for reading!
*Note 1: I have some aftermarket parts: Crucial RAM and a mSATA SSD. I've had these parts in for over a year with no problems.
*Note 2: The motherboard in my laptop blew a transistor or something a few weeks ago. My university's computer shop replaced it under warranty.
*Note 2.1: I'm not sure if the new motherboard is causing the problems or Windows 8.1, or something else entirely. I haven't used my discrete graphics card since before both the 8.1 update and my motherboard being fixed.

This happened to me whenever I was trying to run 3dsMax Design 2013 in Optimus mode, everytime I attempted to open that program it would simply refuse and say the nvidia driver had just crashed.
It was solved with nvidia 305.93 I think (I currently run 331.82 which is the latest) look for the most up to date driver at the nvidia drivers download page.
That is really an nvidia driver related problem but you should also update your Intel video card driver too as previously suggested. (and if the program that is crashing is an Autodesk product be sure to be up to date too (with all the nuances that it implies), I'm currently running 3dsmax 13 PU6 and it works)
So what you need to do is to uninstall your nvidia driver completely, reboot, install the most up to date from nvidia. reboot, via windows update install the lates Intel video driver (if something appears) (don't install it from the intel web site). In device manager my intel driver appears to be 9.17.10.2843
(Maybe it didn't work the last time for you because maybe you didn't perform a clean installation)

  • IE7 freezes when switching between applications

I have 2 production applications. If I open one of them and subsequently open the other one all is fine... The tab for the original app (at the bottom left of workspace) is replaced by the newly opened app (after the pop-up saying 'loading application' is displayed momentarily), as usual. However, if I then try to open the 1st application again the pop-up saying 'loading application' never goes away. At this time I am unable to select any other option except to close IE7 and re-open.
I would like to know if this is a workspace bug or an IE7 settings issue.

We've had conflicts with IE7, and IT eventually rolled us back to 6 to resolve. Not a formal indictment, but call this one vote for an IE7 issue.
